All my users login to my project which is asp.net 1.1(vs2003) based project, now from inside the project, if they try to access any report from (which is on framework 2.0), they have to go through a autentication screen which is related to sql server reporting services.
can you please help, how to override this login screen.
Currently we have a report manager up and running (SQL Standard 2000), and every one can access to this report, since this report has been abused by some users. So I need to restrict only manager(s) user can have access to it and it should prompt a login screen for username and password as it happens only when I try to open http:\server eports locally then I got a login screen for username and password, however when I try to open the report on different workstation remotely I don't have login screen and I am able to connect/ open the report.
Well im trying to install some software on someone's cpu. I dont know his password, and he has forgotten. How do I get pass the login screen? and assign a new name and password.
I recently installed SQL 2005 SP2 on my Vista x64 system. However, when I launch the SQL Server Management Studio, I don't see any server names available, even though I have one called SQL2005 listed as running in the Configuration Manager.
Any idea what I did wrong?
When I type in the correct SQL Server name "SQL2005" and click connect I get this error:
TITLE: Connect to Server ------------------------------
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 53)
Just reporting a quirky thing here... not sure if it is a config issue for our site, or a bug or what. Just want to put it on the radar screen.
We're running AD here. Have Report Services up and have been running about 6 months now.
People on the domain log into the report site just fine.
Recently I rec'd what I thought would be a security problem, but now I'm not so sure. Our COO tried to export an inventory turns report to excel. About half way through the process after he selects 'Open' a login pops.
The problem is that even if the user puts in valid login credentials, the login just pops again, as if there is something incorrect in the values being typed in.
I was able to replicate this on my machine, even logging in as Administrator.
But, I was also, as a regular user on the domain, able to export several other reports. Only the Inventory turns report pops the login on export.
Then it dawned on me, the inventory report uses a group by table that is expandable by product line. The reality that is shielded from us when all the groups are collapsed is that as of this morning, the total rows in the table exceed 183,000 lines, way more than what one worksheet can hold.
I'm assuming this has something to do with it, but why I wouldn't just see the standard excel error about this and get a login pop instead perplexes me.
Can anyone confirm that this is indeed what happens if you try to export to excel more rows than a worksheet can hold?
I'm trying to figure out if we have a problem or if it is a 'bug' type of thing.
I have developed a custom report item that works fine in design and preview mode while in Visual Studio. I cannot get it to show up on my deployed reports. Here's what I have done so far:
1. Deployed the report using Visual Studio
2. updated the rsreportserver.config file with the following entry:
I've also tried using the StrongNameMembershipCondition with no better results.
4. The dll and its dependencies are copied to the bin directory of the report server.
5. When I load a report with this custom report item on it, the report loads fine with no errors or warnings in the log file (even with verbose tracing). The area where the custom item should be is just white. It's almost like Reporting Services isn't registering the item correctly.
This is particularly frustrating because the report works fine in Visual Studio - apparently I configured that correctly. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm stumped.

The "View Report" button is relatively positioned so when the report content is wider than the screen size, it pushes it to the right such that the users have to scrool right to click on it again. Is there a way of setting the "View Report" button to a fixed position to eliminate this?
I am trying to use the report wizard and I get to the last screen where it asks for a name for the report file. The 'Next' button is not unprotected although the 'Finish' button is.
As far as I can tell I have setup the Matrix style report up correctly. If I use the 'Finish' button, Visual Studio just crashes.
The help does not give any clue and I have not found any answers in the forum.
I use SQL Server 2005 Reporting Service to develop all my Reports. i design the report and deploy to the report server. i have created a Web application where i use the above report to be shown inside a ReportViewer page.
when any user view's the report i also want to give them the subscription screen inside the report viewer. BIG QUESTION is how do i call the subscription screen of a specific report inside the report viewer?
Hi AllI am getting an access denied message when I launch the Virtual Serveradministration screen, however I can connect through the Virtual Machineremote connectivity without any problems. Please help, I upgraded my memoryand need to change setting though Virtual Server Adminitration screen. Is there a way around this issue!Thank you in advance,James--Message posted via http://www.sqlmonster.com
When I try to print a report ( report viewer control from ASP.NET application). The print dialog box opens, once I select the printer and click ok. It show €œprinting 1 page€? for 3-4 seconds and the System(computer)crashes and displays a blue screen error. This is happening for only two of my reports. And currently we have disabled the print button for these.
I've seen some similar posts to this one, however none with an answer and I'm wondering if anyone has actually figured out what causes this issue. I'm running SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services.
I'm attempting to implement a folder structure for the report server, therefore am creating individual solutions in Visual Studio for each folder. At the top level i.e http://servername/reportserver/ I am able to deploy reports no problem.
However creating a folder at the next level in the tree and then deploying to that level such as http://servername/reportserver/ManagementReports causes a Reporting Services Login prompt to appear. No matter what user credentials I enter they are not accepted. I have full administrator rights the server, the site and the folders in question.
Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have any suggestions?
Is there any way to get more information for when IAuthorizationExtension::CheckAccess fails to grant access to a report item for the current user? Specifically, it would be useful to know:
1. URL of attempted report 2. IP address of user agent 3. Identity of current user 4. Date/Time of the failed attempt
I need to prevent domain and local administrators from having full control over our report manager. (I want them to be assigned permissions just like everyone else, some reports they can see other reports they can not.)
How can I accomplish this? I tried going into Report Manager -> Site Settings -> Configure Site Wide Security and re-assigning BUILTINAdministrators to the System User role instead of the System Administrator role. (A different set of report manager admins was given the system administrator role).
However, it appears that members of the BUILTINAdministrators group still have full control in Report Manager.
Hello, I'm using Reporting Services to render a text (stored in sql as varchar(max)). The text is all plain text, with some lines having trailing spaces.
Source text file i've imported to SQL via SSIS: CLIENT: 10055 STATEMENT 2007 DATE:1002993 THIS IS THE OTHER STATEMENT COLUMN1 COLUMN2 COLUMN 3 TRY THIS
*Note the trailing spaces on the line before 'STATEMENT 2007'.
I've designed a report using the Report Project in VS2005 to retrieve this text via a stored procedure. When I test the report using the 'Preview' tab in the IDE, it looks good CLIENT: 10055 STATEMENT 2007 DATE:1002993 THIS IS THE OTHER STATEMENT COLUMN1 COLUMN2 COLUMN 3 TRY THIS
But when I deploy the report and run it using URL Access:
CLIENT: 10055 STATEMENT 2007 DATE:1002993
THIS IS THE OTHER STATEMENT
COLUMN1 COLUMN2 COLUMN 3 TRY THIS
On all lines with trailing spaces, they (the trailing spaces) have been removed. This is affecting my formatting of some reports and statements. We really want to use the report viewer as it has built in paging, print and export capabilities.
Why does it look okay in VS2005 but different in Report Viewer via URL Access and Report Manager?
Note: When I export as PDF, it looks okay.
The stored procedure I use to return the data is a CLR Hosted assembly as below:
Code Snippet Partial Public Class StoredProcedures <Microsoft.SqlServer.Server.SqlProcedure()> _
Public Shared Sub GetPagedDocument(ByVal inText As SqlString) Dim dr As SqlDataReader Dim row As New SqlDataRecord(New SqlMetaData("RowText", SqlDbType.Text)) Dim cmd As New SqlCommand("select cast(doc as varchar(max)) as 'DOCTEXT' from testdoc WHERE id='" + inText + "'") Dim cn As New SqlConnection("context connection=true") cn.Open() cmd.Connection = cn SqlContext.Pipe.SendResultsStart(row) 'initialise the resultset to be returned dr = cmd.ExecuteReader 'If no records in result set, return. If Not dr.HasRows Then
row.SetString(0, "There is no document to display or you do not have permission to view the document.") SqlContext.Pipe.SendResultsRow(row) SqlContext.Pipe.SendResultsEnd() ' SqlContext.Pipe.Send("There is no document to display.") Return End If 'Read rows in the result set dr.Read()
'Get the entire text Dim docText As String = dr.Item("DOCTEXT") 'debug row.SetString(0, docText) SqlContext.Pipe.SendResultsRow(row) SqlContext.Pipe.SendResultsEnd() Return 'end debug
I am setting up the SQL2005 reporting service to let users build their own reports on the web. I'll provide them with pre-built report models. We have concern with SQL database performance by allowing users to execute huge reports. The problem that I have is: If I give the users permissions to build report they'll have access to the report's Properties | Execution page, which allows them to disable the report execution timeout. Is there a way for me to allow them build reports while restrict them to access the report execution timeout settings?
I have search all around the net, trying to get a solution for my application under MS Access 2003, I developed a database that generates a report, this report will need to be accessed trough the internal network, perhaps we don't want any user to have direct access to the database itself, and also we don't want to have to manually posted the report in the shared folder, we want to set up this to be done automatically and the end user won't need to have MS access in their pc, perhaps exporting the report as an spreadsheet instead. I try by using Macros within Access but this will only work manually from the .mdb file. I also check what options do I have if I use Javascript but I don't think it will work either, since I'm not using Crystal Reports. Can you please provide me with some guidance, if this is actually possible from a database/report under MS Access 2003.
I'm using SQL Express with Advance Services & I get this error when I try to deploy my reports. Why do I get this error
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)

The feature: "Remote access to report data sources and/or the report server database" is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services. (rsOperationNotSupported)
In SQL2005, is it possible to restrict incoming sql or windows authentication logins by source hostname or IP address? Perhaps using endpoints?
We are currently using hosts file on the db server as a temporary solution, but the SA will not allow us to use this as a permanent solution.
The app team I support is asking me to build an "idiot proof" database so that an Dev or Test app server they may configure, doesn't unintentionally connect to the Production database and damage/alter data.
Don't worry, I've already asked if they can't follow some kind of M&P's to prevent this kind of silly behavior, but they insist on DBA team creating a bullet-proof database that can outsmart app developers who try to attempt something dumb like this.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I found this on the SQL Help page on the Data Link Connection Properties Tab (created by opening a 'test.udl' file on the workstation):
"The SQL Server system administrator must have associated your Microsoft Windows network ID with a SQL Server login ID."
While I can log into the SQL Server from a different workstation NOT using Novell, and using my Windows Authenticated UserID and PW, trying the same from a Novell networked workstation using the UserID and Password which is good ONLY at that one workstation, I cannot access the same SQL Server.
How does one "associate a Microsoft Windows network ID" when Novell is being used to access the Windows network?
The IT department says Novell should have not effect a Windows login, but it apparently is.
Hi there...I use SQL server integrated security so when a user opens a database inaccess it prompts the username & password in a small popup box onconnection, but I'd like to use my own customised form for theauthentication process, is this possible? I do know that this login popboxis displayed before any forms are loaded, can it be said that on databaseconenct that the form is opened? How will I transfer the values entered intothe login form to the sql server for authentication? Thanks alot in advanceRudi Groenewald
I'm very new to this so excuse my naiveity...I have connected my desktop and laptop computer at home, on my desktop I have a series of db's under my default named instance <computername>/sqlexpress and I have created access logins using windows auth. When I connect to the desktop from the laptop using tcp:<computername>sqlexpressuserid I can only see the systemdb's...I am trying to view adventure works, just to see how this remote connection stuff works...any ideas?

Hi, all:I have been tasked with determining how many licenses of a certain SQLServer 2000-based application are actually in use: in other words, record or log connections made to the database by clients.Client connections will be made with a generic SQL Server ID which hasbeen granted access to the DB; security is maintained inside theapplication, and a user only logs in with their personal ID in theapplication itself.I know I can go in at any time into the management/CurrentActivity/Process info and see current sessions against the target db,grab the host name from that view, and do an "nbtstat -a" to glean thelogin ID of the connected user.If there were a way to record connections made to a DB in the eventviewer or SQL log, I could hopefully get the information I need. But I see no way to have the SQL Server log connection information likethis.Does anyone know how I might collect this info? Thanks!Cheers,BD
I wrote the below script to add a SQL server login account that is the db_datareader, db_datawriter, and granted permission on all stored procs, functions, and views on all databases within a server.
