Hi, I have a SQL Server machine, which has SQL Server 2005 installed in it. I'm able to connect to this server remotely (Remote Desktop Connection)
But when I'm trying to connect this SQL Server using SSMS. I'm getting the following error.

Apologies if this is the wrong place to be posting this but I have posted on a few forums and have not had any usable answers to this question, so I am hoping you guys will be able to help me.
I have 2 servers that are on the same domain. My ASP.NET application is running off the first which has .NET 2.0 installed, and I have an SQL Server 2000 db on the other. Whenever I try to connect I get the following error:An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
The connection works when I run the project in VS Development Server on my work computer, but as soon as I upload to the server I get this error.
I have scoured Google but all of the sites I come across are for SQL Server 2005 and are just not suitable for solving the issue on 2000.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I cannot continue my current project until this issue is resolved.

I am setting up a new server with Windows Server 2003 x64 bits and SQL Server 2005 x64 bits. Under 32 bits of Windows we normally use /3GB and enable AWE under SQL Server (both SQL 2000 and SQL 2005) and allocate 6 GB of fixed memory to SQL Server.
Does any one know whether I should do the same thing under the x64 bits platform. I read some articles on the web that it is no longer required to use AWE under SQL 2005 x64 bits??

I have created and deployed a data source (which uses "Credentials supplied by the user running the report") and a model which uses this data source.
Also I have built a report using Report Builder and all works well.
Now I wish to use Visual Studio to build a report, so I'm trying to create a data source from my computer which the report should use and I want it to use the model on the remote server. In the Report Wizard I am using "Report Server Model" and the following connection string:
Server="http://<remoteserver>/reportserver";datasource="/Models/MyModel"
IHowever I can't make the credentials to work. I've tried them all with no luck. What username/password must I use? Because so far nothing of what I have tried works.
Any help is highly appretiated.

I would like to ONLY allow using SQL Server authentication and restrict Windows Authentication. At the moment, i set the security to "SQL server and windows authentication". Now, even though i set the password for "sa", i can ignore the SQL Server authentication and just use Windows authentication to manipulate database objects???
can anybody give some suggestions to restrict windows authentication and allow sql server authentication?.

iam having vs2005 installed on my machine and i also installed sqlserver2005 dev edition on my machine...Now iam devloping a Window Appplication in which I need to populate a grid from Sqlserver2000 (dev edition) which installed on remote (i.e another network)....when i try to run my application it gives me a error tht "Unable to connect to sqlserver2005".actaully i specified in my connection string to connect to Sqlserver2000 on the remote machine.
I feel to know how to enable remote connection on Sqlserver 2000.So tht i can access this sqlserver2000 from another machine

I have three servers, assume ServerA,ServerB, and ServerC. ServerA is where the database(datasource) is located. ServerB is used as a report server and Server C is my local machine where I design reports. So obviously I deployed the reports from my local machine(server C) to the remote report server(server B). Deployement was successful but I got the following error when I run the report from the report server. You might think that the report is not pointing to the right data source, I checked that several times and it is pointing to the right data source.

However, I also observed that when I deployed the same reports on the local machine report server(server C), it run with out any problem. So it seems that the problem is related with the remote server(server B) not the data source.
Does anybody has a solution for this.

i'v installed a pogram that uses SQLEXpress and reporting sevices on a clients computer. I can acces the reports wih http://localhost/reports$SQLEXpress from that computer, but i can't reach them from other computers in the netwok by typing http://servername/reports$SQLEXpress
i am asked to imput a pasword for user "servername/guest" (which i do not know and dont think there is one) and then get the following:

I have a couple of Power View reports that I cannot enable the data refresh schedule for. I cannot pinpoint what caused the schedule to stop working but the scheduled data refresh for these reports used to work and now they don't. Every time I try to enable a schedule the page submits and it seems like everything worked (no errors). However, when I go back to the schedule page for the report the Enable checkbox is unchecked. There are other Power View reports that are scheduled and running just fine. The only error I can track down in the SharePoint logs is this:

I've tried making a copy of the file and re-uploading with a different name but nothing changes. The user would really rather not recreate the report from scratch.
Is there a way to make the View Report disabled or enabled if certain condition exists?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm setting up a simple SSRS implementation for a non-profit organization, using two servers hosted at a data center. The first server has SQL Server Standard Edition and Reporting Services installed. I've designed and deployed a number of useful reports on this server.
I was hoping to isolate this first server by installing IIS and SSRS on the second server, have users browse from the Internet to that second server (over SSL, of course), and have all reports served up from databases (and, presumably, the report server database) on the first server.
During the installation of SSRS on the second server, however, I'm being prompted to specify the service account. According to the help text:
"Reporting Services. Service accounts are used to configure a report server database connection. Choose a domain user account if you want to connect to a report server database on a remote SQL Server instance. If you are using a local report server database, you can use a domain user account or Local System to run the service."
I believe I want to configure SSRS to connect to a report server database on a remote SQL Server instance; therefore, it appears that I need to enter a domain user account. The only problem is, neither server belongs to a domain; they are members of a simple two-server workgroup.
Does SSRS, configured to connect to a report server database on a remote SQL Server instance, require a domain? Does what I'm hoping to accomplish require a domain? Creating a two-server domain seems like overkill for this implementation, doesn't it?

I tried to do "Enabling CLR Integration" in my SQL Server Express: (1) If I clicked on "Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections", I got an error "An exception occurred in SMO while trying to manage a service, (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo) Additional information: Failed to retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoEnum) The operation could not be completed. (WinMgmt). (2) If I clicked on "Surface Area Configuration for Features, I got a different error "Computer localhost does not exist on the network, or the computer cannot be configured remotely. Verify that the remote computer has the required computer has the required Windows Management Instrumentation components and then try again. (SQLSAC) Additional Information: An exception occurred in SMO while trying to manage a service. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo). Failed to retrieve data for this request. I've been through a number of tutorials on how to enable row-level security based on a userID, but my problem is more complicated and I do not have sufficient understanding of report models to guess.
My security information is defined in a table within my database. It contains a username and an account mask. An account mask maps to 1 or more account codes contained in the other data tables in my report model. A user may have more than one account mask defined for his account.
I understand the concept of directly mapping the logged-in user to a field containing a matching username. Is it possible to do a two-step mapping, so that based on the user ID I can get the account mask(s) and then evaluate which account codes match the mask(s)?
Or is there a different/better way to set this up? Defining SQL roles/groups is not an option, because of some compatibility issues with external systems.
So far, because my security table has no defined relationship with the data tables, I have not even been able to get it into my report model (Would love any suggestions on that one, too.)
I'd appreciate any ideas or suggestions - even if only something to investigate.

I have a Report Server setup on my laptop (XP Pro SP2). I have developed a report which I would like to view from a Windows Forms Application (VB.NET) using a ReportViewer. When I try it from the local machine it works correctly, but if I try to connect and preview the same report from my other PC (Vista Home Premium) I am getting the "Unable to connect to the remote server. A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because the connected host failed to respond." error.
I have setup the Processing mode to Remote and correctly setup the ReportPath and ReportServerUrl using:

Our weekly DBCC picked up a consistency error on a table (see end of post). After the dbcc's, all the indexes were rebuilt and this seems to of cured the problem. I`m however concerned that its occured and want to understand the problem better and am looking for any general advice.
The last time i had this type of error it use to occur every few weeks and turned out to related to KB834628.
I`m running SQL 2000 SP3, build 911 on Windows 2003 RTM active active cluster. 7gb ram dual proc with PAE in boot.ini and AWE enabled for SQL.
ALso i've now set dbcc's to run daily. All help appreciated! Ta

Please let me know the followings, as I never found issues with MSDB database before... I read that this database only keep track of your SQL Server agent jobs so at wrost I will end up loosing all my Maitenance plans? or will I loose something else
1. Should I restore MSDB backup up takes 3 days ago?
2. Or should I repair it with data loss? will it effect any Database entries?

I have an instance of SQL Server Express 2005 running on another box and I have Remote Connections enabled over both TCP/IP and Named Pipes, but on my other box I keep getting the error that the server does not accept Remote Connections.
Any ideas why this might be happening? Is there some other configuration?
SQL was installed w/o reporting previously by the other admin. How do i enable the reporting now?

It appears to work fine on my end however on my clients end, whenever they try to print a report that displays perfectly within the report viewer to their printer by selecting the printer button in the report it never ends up printing.., however if they go into printer setup and change the page range to print from all pages to just maybe one page and then select the print button it seems to print fine..
The printer seems to receive the information as the light flashes but no page kick out when all pages is selected to print..
Any help would be greatly appreciated..
