Feb 14, 2008i ve a table named "Employee" in wh i ve fields "Emp_Id","Name" and "Email". i want to select each employee "Emp_Id" one by one from "Employee" table and insert it into another table named "Concerned_Department". like if i ve three rows in "Employee" table with "Emp_Id" 1,2 and 3 respectively,in this case i want to first select "Emp_Id"=1 then "Emp_id"=2 and lastly "Emp_id"=3 and insert them into "Concerned_Department"table.
after that the process starts again like inserting "Emp_Id"=1 in "Concerned_Department" and so on.
plz note that i want to insert "Emp_Id" one by one not all the fields together.
can u plz tell me the query for that wh i ve to write in SQL

i have two different tables , both have a name column, nvarchar datatype.
I would like to select from table B all the rows which contain a name which is not in table A.
Then insert these rows, into table A

Export Data To Csv: Escape New Lines?

I need to convert from mssqlto Postgres and I need to export all MS-SQL table data to a CSV or TXT file (one file per table)
Presumably, all data per row (of a table) must be in one line.
Then when you copy to another database, a new line of data means a new row in the table.
However, MS SQL is exporting a large varchar text field as multiple lines. The data itself is many lines, so exporting it causes the data for one row to fall onto many lines.
My question: How do I escape new lines? When MS SQL exports the data, I want to replace all NEW LINES / carriage returns by /n or by <br> tag (since the data will be for web use).
(pls note I am not actually handling the ms sql database, so any response would be greatly appreciated as I advise the person in charge of the mssql db accordingly).

Let me give u an example,its like:
I have UID,QID,Option1,Option2,Survey Name in one table called Survey Answers and i must select these values and insert them into Surevy Count table which contains some fields as QID,Opt1Cnt,Opt2Cnt,Survey Name. this is an online survey and when ever an user participate in the survey then values will be changed in Survey Answers like:

UID QID Option1 Option2 Survey Name---------These are the fields

I need to add all these Options of particular QID and store them in Survey Count table,like

When ever the user participate in survey then there will be change in Survey answers table i.e the option count will be increased
So this count should be modified in Survey Count Table,like:
If another user participated in survey and if he voted for Option1 of QID1,Option1 of QID2 then the survey count table should be modified as:
QID Opt1Cnt Opt2Cnt Survey Name

Passing Ampersand (&&) As Parameter Value, Fails.

I Have Two Reports ReptA and ReptB,
ReptA Calls ReptB using JumpToUrl (url is formed dynamically).
ReptB has a string parameter paraB1.
When the value to paraB1 contains an ampersand(&) the report fails since the other part of this parameter value after & is taken as a new parameter.
thr URl is autmatically encoded i:e & is converted to %26 so that is not the solution.
Please Suggest.

I have soma ado.net code that inserts 7 parameters in a database ( a date, 6 integers).
I also use a self incrementing ID but the date is set as primary key because for each series of 6 numbers of a certain date there may only be 1 entry. Moreover only 1 entry of 6 integers is possible for 2 days of the week, (tue and fr).
I manage to insert a row of data in the database, where the date is set as smalldatetime and displays as follows: 1/05/2007 0:00:00 in the table.
I want to retrieve the series of numbers for a certain date that has been entered (without taking in account the hours and seconds).
A where clause seems to be needed but I don’t know the syntax or don’t find the right function
I use the following code to insert the row :
command.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@Date", SqlDbType.DateTime, 40, "LDate"));
command.Parameters[6].Value = DateTime.Today.ToString();
command.ExecuteNonQuery();
and the following code to get the row back (to put in arraylist):
“SELECT C1, C2, C3, C4, C5, C6 FROM Series WHERE (LDate = Today())�
WHERE LDate = '" + DateTime.Today.ToString() + "'"
Which is the correct syntax? Is there a better way to insert and select based on the date?
I don’t get any error messages and the code executes fine but I only get an empty datatable in my dataset (the table isn’t looped for rows I noticed while debugging).
Today’s date is in the database but isn’t found by my tsql code I think.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Selecting A Single Data Source From Multiple Data Sources

I am pretty new to SSIS. I am trying to create a package which can accept data in any of several formats. i.e. CSV, Excel, a SQL Server database/table and import the data into my destination database.
So far i've managed to get this working OK. However I am now TOTALLY stuck. I'm currently trying to just concentrate on the data sources being a CSV (using a Flat File Data Source) and/or an Excel Spreadsheet.
I can get the data in and to my destination using a UNION ALL component and mapping the data sources to it so long as both the CSV file and the Excel spreadsheet exist.
My problem is that I need my package to handle the possibility that only the CSV file might exist and there is no Excel spreadsheet. In which case i'd like the package to ignore the Excel datasource completely. Currently either of my data sources do not exist I get errors and the package terminates.
Is there any way in SSIS that I can check all my data sources to see which ones exist (i.e. are valid). If they exist I want to use them. If it doesn't exist i'd like to disgard it (without error - as long as there is a single datasource the package should run)
I've tried using the AcquireConnection method in a script task on each of my connections, hoping that it would error if the file/datasource did not exist. It doesn't though (in the case of an Excel datasource it just creates a empty excel file for me).
The only other option I can come up with are to have seperate packages depending on the type of data we want to import and then run a particular package depending on the format of the source data. This seems a bit long winded. I am pretty sure I must be able to do what I want to achieve but I can't work out how.
I'll be grateful to anyone who can send me any tips/hints/links on how I can achieve this.

Oct 26, 2015I have a scenarios where if I execute select * from tbl it should display the all the records without waiting to release any lock. For example suppose I have one table called tbl and one session is updating one records and not committed yet and in other session if i execute select * from table I can see all the records, for that records it can show me older version. but my select statement should not wait to commit another session and also it should not show the modified data.

Sep 20, 2007I've got a big problem that I'm trying to figure out:
I have an address table out-of-which I am trying to select mailing addresses for companies UNLESS a mailing address doesn't exist; then I want to select the physical addresses for that company. If I get multiple mailing or physical addresses returned I only want the most recently edited out of those.
I don't need this for an individual ID select, I need it applied to every record from the table.
My address table has some columns that look like:
[AddressID] [int]
[LocationID] [int]
[Type] [nvarchar](10)
[Address] [varchar](50)
[City] [varchar](50)
[State] [char](2)
[Zip] [varchar](5)
[AddDate] [datetime]
[EditDate] [datetime]
AddressID is a primary-key non-null column to the address table and the LocationID is a foreign key value from a seperate Companies table.
So there will be multiple addresses to one LocationID, but each address will have it's own AddressID.
How can I do this efficiently with perfomance in mind???

I have to get each post, the name of the poster (which comes from a different table - referenced by userid), as well as some profil information, from a 3rd table (also referenced by the userid).

Way To Escape From CURSOR
May 3, 2002I am probably a bit of dumb programmer but I am trying to get away from using cursors in my SQL stored procedures. I probably have my VB program code set in my mind but what is the alternative of doing something like this in T-SQL:

Can someone give me an example in T-SQl which can achieve the same thing? (Apart from calling SQL stored procedure using ADO within VB?)

I tried searching for "escape character", "quotes", etc, but they didn't work.
I'm having troubling inserting data into my tables, if they have an apostrophe or double quotes. I know that MySQL's escape character is "", but I tried it for MS SQL and it didn't work. HOW DO I INSERT DATA INTO MY DB THAT HAS AN APOSTROPHE OR DOUBLE QUOTE? Thanks.

I have a question with this query -
SELECT * FROM table1 WHERE column1 = 'T_C_%';
This query returns rows where column1 = "T_Care", "T_CRP" etc etc, whereas I was expecting only rows where column1 = "T_C_Tail", "T_C_Head"
However, when I use an escape character(/), the results are more in the lines of the expected results.
Can somebody explain this?

SQL Server 2012 :: Get Empty Data Set For Inserting Data?

one is Race table and 2nd one is Age Range.
I want to write a query where I can see all races and age range as column.

ID, RaceName
TblAgeRange
ID,AgeRange.
There is no connection between this two table. I need to display result like below.

How do i get this kind of empty data set so that I can fill it out in front end or any better solution. The age range will be displayed as many row as they have. It's not static. Above is just an example.

Nov 17, 2007Hi,I have a message system, where people insert their message to the database, and others pick up their messages by selecting messages that have their username as the reciever ID.I have just intoduced bulk message sending - sending to multiple users. This requires many usernames being entered into the recievername column, seperated by a comma.Is there a way to select messages if the column name contains their username, rather than is their username? Because there may be more than one name, I would like everyone that has their name in the column to be able to retrieve the message, even if they arent the only reciever..Please ask if more explanation is needed!Thanks,Jon
