I'm having some difficulties getting sql server replication to properly filter joined tables to my subscribers. I would like to examine the contents of the view the system uses to select the data from my subsidary tables. Unfortunately these views are marked as system views, and I cannot view the underlying SQL clause.
I imagine this data is stored somewhere in yet another system table... does anyone know how I can examine the sql statement of a view that is marked as a 'system view'?
I have written a few custom tasks and I've noticed that they don't behave exactly like the built-in MS tasks when in design mode. Specifically, they don't update themselves with the values of expressions that have been assigned to their custom properties.
Here's an example. My task exposes a property called JobNumber. Let's say I make a variable called @[User::JobNumber], give it a value, and assign the variable as an expression to the JobNumber property. When I look at the properties in either the property window or my custom UI editor, the value assigned to the variable never shows up in the property itself. If, on the other hand, I were to assign a variable to the ServerName property of an OLEDB connection manager, the next time that task validates itself I will see the value of my variable in the ServerName property.
Everything works fine at run-time; it's just design-time that the behavior is undesirable.
I'm sure this is because I need to be doing something myself, but the question is what, and when?
Hopefully this is something simple, so I will provide basic information first without going into a ton of detail.
I have inherited a bunch of SQL Views that have recently been moved from 2000 to 2005. The databases were detached and reattached. Everything is running well, except we are having some issues with a bunch of Views.
Here is the general layout of the view, I am not in a position yet to rewrite them (which is what I would like to do) but the ones that are having a problem follow the same general design.
We have a view, that I will call View_A.
Within View_A, we reference View_B and View_C.
So we have one view that takes the results from two other views which are UNION'ed together.
Both View_B and View_C basically contain a select statement that includes around 10 large tables that are UNION'ed together.
I am seeing the following behavior, which is only under 2005.
Scenario #1:
select * from View_A
Result: Returns records in around 5 seconds.
Scenario #2:
select * fomr View_A where curdate = '20080407'
Result: The query hangs forever and I have seen it generate wait_types (sorry, cannot remember them off the top of my head) but other times it did not generate any. And on occasion, the server processors would spike and we would get an error message in the logs like, "Not enough memory to execute query". I searched for these issues and most solutions to similar problems related to having the latest service pack under 2000.
Scenario #3
select * from View_A where curdate like '20080407'
Result: Returns records in about 5 seconds.
I have some understanding regarding how operands push differently into views vs. direct table selects, but this is something that functions correctly under 2000. My guess is that this behavior is in place by default under 2005 to prevent really bad queries from bringing the server down. Perhaps the 2000 server has had some configuration changes to allow this to work, but I am hoping that there is a relatively simple solution.
The 2005 Server is SP2 and a MUCH better server from a hardware standpoint.
Hello i currently have a website that has an SQL server 2005 dbs that stores appointments. I would like to do a select statement in my sqldatasource that selects all the records that have an 'appointmentDate' more than 2 weeks after the current date (ie the system date). I am stuck on the SQL statement i need to produce to achieve this. I was thinking along the lines of SELECT * FROM appointments WHERE appointmentDate > System.Date + 14; However this is clearly not the right SQL statement. Any help would be appreciated. I've the following view in my DB and I need to modify it in such a way that it should be grouped by 'categoryId' and display the count of rows that come under each categoryId. In brief, I need to use 'Group By' clause and 'Count/SUM' aggregate function.

was a result of running DBCC DBREINDEX.I wasn't able to replicate this when I did a trace on my local machine, but SQL Monitor from Red-Gate shows that query happening for at least some of the tables that are being reindexed via a job. Is there anyway to examine the actual code inside DBREINDEX to see exactly what commands it may execute?
I am reading "SQL Server Query Performance Tuning Distilled",on page 104 it talks about one of the index design recommendationswhich is to choose the column that has very high selectivity of valuesinstead of a column that has very few selectivity of values.My question is if I have currently indexes on my tables that have1, 2, 3, 4, ... values only on thousands of rows, are these nonclusteredindexes pretty much useless indexes that I should get rid of?And I know that pretty much the number of selectivity values willalways remain very low.Thank you
I represent a software development house and we have developed a client server system based on SQL Server. Most of our customers have already purchased Enterprise License of SQL Server, therefore they own the SA Login and Password. We are bound to attach our Database with their Server on their machine.
My question is how can we stop a System Administrator of SQL Server to view our Database Structure, Queries, Data installed on their SQL Server on their machine.
Our database structure is a trade secret and we cant reveal the structure to the client.

I have created view by jaoining two table and have order by clause.
The sql generated is as follows

If I run sql the results are displayed in proper order but the view only order by first item in order by clause.
Has somebody experience same thing? How to fix this issue?

I have a quite big SQL query which would be nice to be used using UNION betweern two Select and Where clauses. I noticed that if both Select clauses have Where part between UNION other is ignored. How can I prevent this?

when i go to http://servername/reports , the UIlogon.aspx page loads fine and i enter username and password. but i get logon failed.
when i go to http://servername/reportserver , the logon.aspx does not load and i get the following error message :

Ok guys, I am trying to install Sql server 2005 on Vista but I am still stuck with this warning message in the System Configuration Check during Sql server 2K5 installation :

I have scripts to refresh database as SQL daily jobs. (O.S is Win2K3 and SQL server 2000 and SP4) It was worked and I got the following message this morning from SQL error log.

Hi,I have a few things on my databases which seem to be neither true systemobjects or user objects - notably a table called 'dtproperties' (createdby Enterprise manager as I understand, relating to relationship graphingor something) and some stored procs begining with "dt_" (some kind ofsource control stuff, possible visual studio related). These show up whenI use"exec sp_help 'databaseName'"but not in Ent. Mgr. or in Query Analyzer's object browser, and also notin a third party tool I use called AdeptSQL. I am wondering how thosetools know to differentiate between these types of quasi-system objects,and my real user data. (This is for the purpose of a customized schemagenerator I am writing). I'd prefer to determine this info with systemstored procs (ie sp_help, sp_helptex, sp_...etc) but will dip into thesystem tables if needed.Thanks,Dave

In both cases database collation is SQL_Latin1_General_CP1251_CS_AS
If I check quieries above on database with SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS collation then it works fine again.
