How To Exclude Zero Values When Sorting?
Feb 9, 2005I have a datagrid with a “sort� field I want to use to sort the rows in ascending order. However, I want values with a 0 or NULL value to be displayed last. I can’t figure out how to do a sort (preferably in the SQL) that returns the empty values last. Is this possible?

I got a query like

The problem is that I can only perform a query like

There are many objects which do have a homedirectory, though, and therefore should be fetched.
Any comments or hints on where my error hides?
I know I could go on fetching all objects and exclude the unwanted ones later on but I'd simply run into the limitation of data records LDAP would provide me with.

Feb 4, 2014 I wrote a select statement, I only want to see orders with max lastUpdatedOn date of 14 days and older. Now my results show dates with all orders of 14 days and older (which is OK), but all others are displayed in the "Uitgifte" column as "NULL". But those orders should not be displayed at all.

Whether To Use Local System Account Or Domain Account For Service Account
Jan 5, 2006During install of SQL Server 2005, we can of course use a domain account or the built-in system account for running the services. I lean toward domain for obvious reaons but would like to know a +/- to each option and why I'd choose one over the other and what consequences or limitations one may encounter if I choose one over the other.

Dec 10, 2012I am trying to write a report that includes different lab values for an account number depending on the test. What I mean is if patient xyz had lab work and procedure number 1012 was ordered I need to include one line for the highest result value and one for the lowest result value. If I have procedure number 1032 I only need a line for the lowest value. I have a list of about 40 lab procedures that some require both highest and lowest, some just the lowest and some the highest. I have played around with CASE, but that hasn't worked for me.

SA Account (DBA System Account) Granting Priveleges But SQL Server 2000 Not Applying Them
Dec 4, 2006I have been running a script in SQL Server 2000 as sa also as a Active Directory user who has administrator rights (I tested both approaches SQL Server then Windows Authentication) in Query Analyser which grants execute rights to the stored procedures within the database instance and Query Analyser does not give any errors when I run the script. I have made sure that each transaction has a go after it. I then return to Enterprise Manager, check the rights (I apply them to roles so that when we create another SQL Server user we just grant him/her rights to the role) and discover that the role has not been granted the rights. I seems to be occurring only with 2 of the procedures. Is there a known bug that might be causing this?

DTS Fails As A Job With Service Startup Account As "System Account"
May 9, 2002I have several DTS jobs that runs well as a job with my nt login account for the SQL agent service startup account, but if I use the System account
they fail with this error.
" Error opening datafile: Access is denied. Error source: Microsoft Data Transformation Services Flat File Rowset Provider"
The data has change access to the System account under the NT security.

Xp_cmdshell Does Not Execute For Non-sysadmin Account Even With Proxy Account
Mar 2, 2004Hi all, i hope you can help me.
Basically a dts package has been setup that pulls in data from another companies server, this data requires to be on-demand i.e individual users can pull in updates of the data when they require it.
I am using xp_cmdshell and dtsrun to pull in the data. This obviouly works fine for me as i am a member of sysadmin.
Books online quotes " SQL Server Agent proxy accounts allow SQL Server users who do not belong to the sysadmin fixed server role to execute xp_cmdshell"
So i went to the SQL Server Agent Properties 'Job System' tab and unchecked 'Non-sysadmin job step proxy account' and entered a proxy account.
The proxy account has been setup as a Windows user with local administrator privilages and even a member of the sysadmin server role - just in case.
Now when i log onto the db with my test account - a non-sysadmin - and attempt to run the stored proc to import the data i recieved the message 'EXECUTE permission denied on object 'xp_cmdshell', database 'master', owner 'dbo' '
hmm... so basically i have either misunderstood BoL or there is something not quite right in my setup.
I have search the net for a few days now and yet i can find no solution.
Can anyone help?
Domain Account Vs Local Account For SQLServerAgent

This makes sense; however, I waswondering if there were any repercussions to using duplicate localaccounts to establish replication where a domain was not available.Anotherwords, create a local windows account "johndoe" on both machines(with the same password), grant that account access to SQL Server onboth machines, and then have SQL Server Agent run as "johndoe" on bothmachines. I do not feel this is an ideal solution but I havecircumstances under which I may not have a domain available; mypreliminary tests seem to work.Also, are there any similar considerations regarding the MSSQLSERVERservice, or can I always leave that as local system?Dave

Apr 25, 2007I have a situation that I have discovered in our QA database that I need to resolve. When I looked at the Activity Monitor for our server, I discovered that a process is running under a domain user account for one of our .Net applications. The problem is that that domain user account has not been created as a SQL login account on the server. I am trying to figure out how someone can log in to the database server with a domain user account that has not been added to SQL Server as a login account.
Does anyone have any insight on this? I don't like the idea of someone being able to create domain account that can access the database without me granting them specific access.

(one to many relation). i want a query which returns all the records
from "Person" where "Year" is 2005 but exclude if there is any "Year"

But in these regions some countries are excluded and treated seperate.
Like Asia does not include India and Japan.

Jan 27, 2012I am running a query that works just fine however, I would like it to exclude value that are equal to zero.
Basically my query looks at the commission that clients pay over a number of periods.
So it goes like this

It works perfectly fine however, we dont transact with our clients everyday so therefore this list will return all of our clients in the database and many will have generate zero commission. I want to keep the query along those lines I just need to insert something that says "ONLY SHOW WHEN Commission is not ZERO.

Exclude Row If Calculated Column Is Zero?
Oct 3, 2013I am attempting to create an SQL statement that will query a file and give me amount totals by company number/customer number. The totals have to be combined into 4 groups (1/2/3/4) for each amount total in company number/customer number combination. In effect it will look something like this:

I HAVE THIS PART WORKING ALREADY. The problem is that I am trying to exclude the rows that have 0 (zero) in the amount column from showing up in the output. The amount is a calculated field of all the invoice for that company number/customer number combination for that sort (eg: Company 00001/Customer 11111/Sort 1 has $55 associated to it). I cannot use the calculated field in my where clause.
I will include a simplified version of my select statement so you can see how I got as far as I have and where to go so I pretty much say "WHERE SUM(SubTBL.Amount) <> 0".

Exclude Duplicates From Result Set
Apr 2, 2008This should be trivial but I'm ignorant so I'm hoping someone can assist. I can find lots of code snippets for removing duplicates, but I can't find a variation that works for my case.
Overview: I'm doing a name look-up, combining first & last names and if it matches against an employee table, getting the employeeID for that person. I need to only return the unique matches, and exclude any names that happen more than once in the employee table.
I have 3 possible results from my select (snippet below):
1) Single match
2) No match
3) Multiple matches (2 or more people, same first and last name)
My simple code below does exactly what I need for case 1 & 2. If there is a single match on the name, it's returns the res_ID and emp_ID as expected, if no match, no record and that works for me.
The problem I can't solve is if there are two John Smith employees, both records are returned, which is what my query requests, but not what I need. I want ONLY return data which has ONE exclusive match, and exclude all others.
Code for case 1 & 2, doesn't handle 3rd case:
Select distinct ot.res_ID, e.emp_ID
From employee e, @OutputTable ot
Where (e.fName + ' ' + e.lName) = ot.empFullNameText
Employee table has first & list names, plus emp_ID
@OutputTable is a table variable from my proc which has "John Smith" type text names as one string.
This has to be simple, but I'm over my head on this one. All ideas, reference links or other assistance appreciated.

How Do You Exclude Data That Doesn't Exist?
Apr 1, 2005I have a cube that is showing measures that don't exist. Let me give an example. This example will include 3 dimensions, product, location, and time. The fact table measure will be sales.
Here are the distinct values if you were to write a sql query against the dimensionl model that feeds the cube.
Product Location Time Sales
A X 1/04 200
B Y 1/04 100
A X 2/04 300
In the cube, if you were to look at product by location for just 2/04, you would see:
Product Location Sales
All Loc 300
A X 300
Y
All Loc
B X
Y
How do you get rid of the zero's or combinations that don't exist?
