I have designed a Contacts application, where I store all the Contacts in a SQL Database.
Now, I am deploying this application using Visual Studio 2005 Setup and Deployment project.
I might need the update the database with additional Columns etc at a later stage.
How, can I update the SQL Database after it has been deployed on a client computer?

I added a configuration file to my pakage for changing the connections strin, but whe I execute the deployed package and in the Execute pakage utility I add the .dtsconfig file and then execute it it never takes the connection string stored in the configuration file. Mi configuration file is:

Hi all
For selecting different load targets we use package configurations to override the connection parameters in the connection manager.
To organize the different tasks we splittetd our load processes into multiple package files (dtsx) which are then put together into a workflow using "Execute Package Task" component.
With the option /CONFIGFILE its possible to override the configuration file for the package that is called with DTExec. Unfortuanetly it does not override the configuration of subpackages calles by the "Execute Package Task".
Are there some ways to configure subpackages on the command line?

I'm trying to capture the file name and insert to the Database with Loop Container and Execute Sql task...However when I run, I get error with the input parameter.
In my Sql Task, the parameter mapping:
Variable name: user::variable,
direction: input,
Data Type: Varchar,
parameter name: @xVariable,
parameter size: -1
connectiontype: OleDB
sourcetype: direct input
statement : insert into xtable(xcolumn) values(@xVariable)
Anyone have any other suggestion how to capture the filename and input in the database?

while i am trying to unzip files using execute process task ,getting below error

I've been struggling with this issue,
1) Test--FolderName (This Test folder name should use as a database name for below sub folders)
a)Create--Sub Foldername
i)create.sql
b)Alter---Sub FolderName
i)Alter.sql
c)Insert---Sub FolderName
i)Insert.sql

The scripts need to be run in order. So script one needs to run first folder in that sub folders after that next second folders etc..
Is there a way to create a bat file that automatically runs all these scripts, in order against, the databases they need to?
The databases that they need to run against have the name of the database at the beginning of the name of the folder.

I had got the below error when I execute a DELETE SQL query in SSIS Execute SQL Task :
Error: 0xC002F210 at DelAFKO, Execute SQL Task: Executing the query "DELETE FROM [CQMS_SAP].[dbo].[AFKO]" failed with the following error: "The transaction log for database 'CQMS_SAP' is full. To find out why space in the log cannot be reused, see the log_reuse_wait_desc column in sys.databases". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
But my disk has large as more than 6 GB space, and I query the log_reuse_wait_desc column in sys.databases which return value as "NOTHING".
So this confused me, any one has any experience on this?

I'm looking for a way to refer to a package variable within any
Transact-SQL code included in either an Execute SQL or Execute T-SQL
task. If this can be done, I need to know the technique to use -
whether it's something similar to a parameter placeholder question
mark or something else.
FYI - I've been able to successfully execute Transact-SQL statements
within the Execute SQL task, so I don't think the Execute T-SQL task
is even necessary for this purpose.

I have a master package, which executes child packages that are located on a SQL Server. The Child packages execute other child packages which are also located on the SQL server.
Everything works fine when I execute in process. But when I set the parameter in the mater package ExecutePackageTask to ExecuteOutOfProcess = True, I get the following error

I have a SSIS package contains an "Execute SQL Task". The SQL will raise error or succeed. However, it sounds the package won't pick up the raised error?
Or is it possible to conditional run other control flow items according the the status of SQL task execution?
I proposed on a new server that we separate Data Files, Log Files, tempDB, Backups, etc. onto separate LUNS on a SAN with High Speed Solid State Drives.I was told that with the new technology with solid state SAN's that it would decrease performance and that it did not work the same way as it did when you had RAID 5's etc.I thought that if things were cared out correctly by a SAN Administrator they would know how to configure for optimal performance.

In the first step of my SSIS package I need to get files from FTP and dump it/them in a local directory, but it's more than that, the logic is like this:
1. If no file(s) found, stop executing and send email saying no file(s) found;
2. If file(s) found, then compare it/them with existing files in our archive folder; if file(s) already exist in archive folder, stop executing and send email saying file(s) already existed, if file(s) not in archive folder yet, then transfer it/them to the local directory for processing.
I know i have to use a script task to do this and i did some research and found examples for each of the above 2 steps and not both combined, so that's why I need some help here to get the logic incorporated right.

I have the need to delete old backup files via TSQL job. Found this solution online:

In reading through the Online Book Documentation, I realize that I have forgotten to move the Transaction Log Files to a different drive. Now that the server is in production, I wanted to get some input about the best way of making this change.
Can I just change the directory the log files are being written to in the DB properties without having any adverse problems occurring?

I'm using replication with two database on SQL 2000,when begin, the log files size is 50mb and the data files size is 150mb. But now the log files size is 2Gb and the data files size is 4Gb. I would like to decrease the log files and the data files ??? How do i do this???

Both of these files are stored on the server (as many experts in this forum adviced) and their locations are in the SQL server database. I have a problem with bcp and format files.We changed our databases from varchar to nvarchar to support unicode. Noproblems so fare with that. It is working fine.But now I need a format file for the customer table and and it is notworking. It is working fine with the old DB with varchar, but withnvarchar I'm not able to copy the data. I've created a linked server (and set up the corresponding schema.ini file) in order to perform bulk-inserts from some CSV text files into SQL tables (from my standpoint the text files are just for reading purposes). The linked server works fine (I can select the data in the files without a problem).
Now the question: is possible to automatically detect when one or more of those files change in order to start the import process automatically? Something like having a trigger created on the CSV files Or there's no easy way to do that so I have, to say something, to create a Job that periodically checks if the files have changed programatically (say, recording each file's timestamp everytime is imported and comparing the recorded value with the current one, or whatever)?

I might have a rather strange question but I was wondering if there is a way/tool that can be used to convert/import Word documents (.doc) into Reporting Services report files (.rdl). The problem is that I have lots of Word documents containing e.g. survey question. The reports are very extensive with many pages and many "graphical" objects e.g. rectangles etc.. Now I want to have all these reports imported into Reporting Services, i.e. I want the .doc-files to be converted to .rdl-files. I do not want to use e.g. OfficeWriter but I want the .doc-files to be migrated to the rdl-format. Is that possible, is there a tool for this? Both file formats are Microsoft formats, so there should be a conversation tool right?

I have trigger, but not execute somedata because insert few row in every second. I use java to insert data to SQL server 2005. Data inserted to a table but not executing trigger for some data.
For example 100 data every second inserted to a table.
If insert data one by one to a table trigger fires success.
Please Help me.

I am trying to return a recordset to an ASP page from a stored procedure.
The stored procedure creates a temporary table and then builds an SQL statement into a string declared with the SP. The string contains an INSERT INTO statement to insert into the temporary table and followed by a select of the rows I wish to insert into the table.
I then use the EXECUTE method to execute the SQL string. After this I have a SELECT which should select from the temporary table and return the rows i am interested in from the stored procedure.
For some reason this does not seem to work. If I execute the SP from query analyzer I get the resultset returned. However when I try to call the stored procedure from my ASP no recordset is returned. I have done this type of thing before and it has worked perfectly. Does anyone have any ideas why this may not be working? Many Thanks.
Newbie Question: I'm in EM and I want to execute a simple SQL statement (e.g. exec a sproc). How do I do it? Do I have to fire up QA? or is there a simpler way?
