How To Find Text/data In All Of My Tables?

Hello,
I have a quick question. Can you please tell me how to find/search a string/value in all of my tables in a database.
For example I need to find a value/data "GH45678", where-ever it appears in a database.
I would really appreciate your prompt response. I would also like to thank you very much in advance for your time/help.
Note: I need to find specific data in all of my tables, I am looking for something like text search in my database. I am using SQL Server 6.5. Thanks

I have two tables of book information. One that has descriptions of thebook in it, and the isbn, and the other that has the book title,inventory data, prices, the isbn.Because of some techncal constraints I won't get into now, I can'tcombine them both into one table. No problem. Things are going fine aslong as there is a description in the one table to corrispond to theisbn and other data in the other table.However, about half of the products are not yet entered into thedescrition table. I'd like to run a sql query that pulls up all theisbns that don't exist in the other. In other words, I'd like to get aquery that tells me exactly which isbns do not yet have descrition datain them. I know there is some sql that says to search from one filewhere the number does not exist in the other, but it slips my mind. I'm currently setting up a Tabular Model to do some research between several fact tables. In this example i have two fact tables (table 1 and table 2) which I've created a 1 to 1 relationship on phone number. Typically I create a relationship between these tables to find common data between the two. However, in this case I am trying to figure out the best way to model the data so that I can easily surface data from one table that does not exist in the other. I would liken this to a LEFT JOIN or a WHERE NOT EXISTS in SQL.
Table 1 has all of the data and Table 2 Only has a subset of the data from Table 1. What I'm trying to do here is display what attributes in Table 1 may play a part in records not existing in Table 2. What is the best way to model this?

I have Two Database that exist on Two seperate servers. The two database contain same schema and contains tables and columns of same name. Some tables have slight differences in terms of data types or Data type lenght.
For example if a Table on ServerA has a column named - CustomerSale with Varchar (100, Null) and a table on ServerB has a column named CustomerSale with Varchar (60, Null), how can i find if other columns have similar differences in all tables with the same name and columns in the two servers.
I am using SQL Server 2005. And the Two Servers are Linked Servers

I have a text file which contains the data that has to be inserted into multiple tables.The columnames of table 1 form the H1 follwed by Details D1,D1,D1...
The column names of table two form the H2 followed by details D2,D2,D2 so on and similarly for Table 3.
Am using a link server to the file directory and schema.ini which defines the column names fofr the text file
Is there any way of defining column names for more than one table through the schema.ini? or is there any other way through I can parse the text file contents to multiple tables?
Sample text file:
H1,JobDate,JobNumber,FileName,
D1,13/02/2008,asdf123,text1.txt
D1,13/02/2008,asdf123,text2.txt
D1,13/02/2008,asdf123,text3.txt

I tried all the INFORMATION_SCHEMA on SQL 2000 andI see that the system tables hold pretty much everything I aminterested in: Objects names (columns, functions, stored procedures, ...)stored procedure statements in syscomments table.My questions are:If you script your whole database everything you end up havingin the text sql scripts, are those also located in the system tables?That means i could simply read those system tables to get any informationI would normally look in the sql script files?Can i quickly generate a SQL statement of all the indexes on my database?I read many places that Microsoftsays not to modify anything in those tables and not query them since theirstructure might change in future SQL versions.Is it safe to use and rely the system tables?I basically want to do at least fetching of information i want from thesystem tables rather than the SQL script files.I also want to know if it's pretty safe for me to make changes in thesetables.Can i rename an object name for example an Index name, a Stored Procedurename?Can i add a new column in the syscolumns table for a user table?Thank you

I am trying to take an entire MS SQL database and put it in an sql file. I have succesfully copied the tables into an sql file by highlighting the tables in enterprise manager and choosing 'generate sql script'.
That gives me the structure, but now I would like the data (in insert statements). I have looked in enterprise manager's export wizard and sql analyzer to no avail. There seem to be a lot of options for exporting data except this one! Please point me in the right direction.
At the end of the day, I would like to be able to put everything in a text file. Then, should I have problems, I can just copy my text into query analyzer and have a brand new database.

I need to change my AFTER - Trigger from this (example!):
select * into #ins from inserted
to something like
select *(without Text / nText / image -columns) into #ins from inserted.
So I tried to build a string like this: (using INFORMATIONSCHEMES)
select @sql = 'select a,b,c into #ins from inserted'
exec(@sql)
a,b,c are not of Text, nText or Image datatype.
After executing the trigger, I get an error, that inserted is unknown.
Does anyone know how to solve this ?

I am transferring data from Oracle tables into text files, and facing these errors.
1. I have a varaible working as an expression and my query goes into that variable and onwards that variable is passed to dataflow task, which parse the query. my query is simple saying "Select * from PLS.ABC" where PLS is my schema, but the task generates error "Opening a rowset for "Select * from PLS.ABC" failed. check that the table exists in the database. and surely the table is there.
2. I have a foreach loop that iterates through all the table names and the table names are passed onwards to the varaible query, the dataflow task inside the foreach loop gets the variable query and will generate text files based on tablenames which i have supplied in another variable to the connectionstring property of the flatfile destination. Is it possible or not. all the tables have different columns and i need the output in text files.

Hi, i'm trying to do a full text search on my site to add a weighting score to my results. I have the following database structure:
Documents: - DocumentID (int, PK) - Title (varchar) - Content (text) - CategoryID (int, FK)
Categories: - CategoryID (int, PK) - CategoryName (varchar)
I need to create a full text index which searches the Title, Content and CategoryName fields. I figured since i needed to search the CategoryName field i would create an indexed view. I tried to execute the following query:
CREATE VIEW vw_DocumentsWITH SCHEMABINDING ASSELECT dbo.Documents.DocumentID, dbo.Documents.Title, dbo.Documents.[Content], dbo.Documents.CategoryID, dbo.Categories.CategoryNameFROM dbo.Categories INNER JOIN dbo.Documents ON dbo.Categories.CategoryID = dbo.Documents.CategoryID

But this gave me the error:
Cannot create index on view 'dbname.dbo.vw_Documents'. It contains text, ntext, image or xml columns.
I tried converting the Content to a varchar(max) within my view but it still didn't like.
Appreciate if someone can tell me how this can be done as surely what i'm trying to do is not ground breaking.

I could not figure out the way to implement it although i know full text search is a good choice.I have following table adapterGetProducts(); GetProductsByManufacturerName(); GetProductsByManufacturerID(), and GetProductsByUPCCode();Product table contains UPCCode, Description, Size columnsBut i need to get the product which returns the description containing search query. Thank you for taking the time to read this, I need all the advise and help I can get on this ... so please post anything you think would work ... A little confused I am:
Have a database table called "people" with "person name" and "ID" field. My ASP.NET application mainly stores articles in article table. An article's Article text mentions various people's names in different combinations (e.g. John, Smith, John Smith, Smith John, etc)
Is there any way, I could compare the article text stored in article table with people table and get the people from people table along with their ID's who have been mentioned in that article? ... so in an article "i love john smith ... and i think Mr smith has always been helpful", I get John Smith back...
Not too sure being honest, what is the best way of implementing this, looking for the most efficient way, probably using XML? SQL Query or may be ASP.NET's code behind?

Hi, got a problem and can't figure this one out.
basically i've got a field containing a value '(14)(12)(33)(22)' and i want to compare it to a table containing those values in separate cells...
record 1 : (01)
record 2 : (02)
etc...
and i want to compare this one field to those records to see whether that text string contains anything the table contains.
i've tried ContainsTable & IN but still can't figure this out.
any help greatly appreciated

I have set the Full-Text to all the columns. For searching i wrote the below query
SELECT * FROM <TABLE NAME> WHERE CONTAINS(*,'"SQL Server-Part1"')
My Result expectation is: The First Record should come. But the result of the query bring the two records. It see the "SQL Server" string also. I need to find the exact word. How to do it? Please answer me as soon as possible. Ganesh.

There are plenty of scripts to do this on a per-DB level, but any that will allow me to generate a script for all DB's at once? Mine are split across dozens and it would be much easier to do a loop (using MS_ForeachDB ? )

Here is the error message that I'm getting
Error string: Error opening datafile: The system cannot find the path specified.
The file it's bombing out on is the text file that Im importing into one of my tables through a dts package (which is getting called by the dtsrun statement -- that is giving off this message.) If anyone would know what may be sending this message off to me let me know.

We have a table that is full text enabled and it is working fine, but the full text search doesn't returns any record for the following case
select * from let_catalog_search where contains(search_field,'"Bulk Process 1*"')
even though there exist records that satisfy the condition in the table,
the record that i am talking abt is "bulk process 1 with price bp100-ilt1-00200136 bp100-ilt1"
If I remove the last 1 from the search string i get lot of records, Can anybody help me out.

Hi -
I've never used SQL for anything but simple copies and queries, and now I need to do something that's probably simple, as well, but I don't know how to start. I need to update values in a text field with new values from another table. I can do it individually with an update statement (Set [field1] = 'newvalue' where [field1] = 'oldvalue'). But I have 400 different values and a bunch of different tables that need to be updated, and can't imagine that's the only solution. I can make up a simple table that will have all the old values in one column, and the new values in the next. I need a statement that look at the old value, then fetch the new value from the table I made, and replace the old value with the new.
I've looked at various help files and tried to search for a solution elsewhere, but I'm not coming up with anything. I guess I just don't know where to look. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I am brand new to using SQL. I created a DB with a bunch of tables there. What I would like to do is from my VB.NET application I would like to allow the user to see what tables are available in that DB.
Also I need a way to check if a table exists. I used the following:

I have this 2 tables:

need to find all differences between the 2 Tables.
A mismatch can be:
- Table1.ID exists, Table2.ID does not exist
- Table2.ID exists, Table1.ID does not exist
- Table1.ID = Table2.ID and Table1.Value <> Table2.Value
So I want to be returned:
ID Value ID Value
--------------------
1 2 NULL NULL
4 3 4 4
NULL NULL 3 4
There must be something simpler than the solution I came up with which is:select * from Table1 a full outer join Table2 b on a.Id = b.Id
