How To Forcing The Mirror Communication To A Private Network?

SQL 2005 Standard x64 Service Pack 2
Windows 2003 R2 X64 service pack 2
The principle, partner and witnesss have two NICs each (NIC1 and NIC2). I want them to communicate in NIC2 for sending logs and establishing quorum. This will happen in their own private network (say 192.168.1.0/24). The NIC1 in each server will be available for client communication. The domain and clients are in the network (say 10.1.1.0/24).
I am using the same domain account as SQL server service account in all three servers.
How can I do this?

Problem: We have intermittent failures of SQL Server jobs with the following error -
TCP Provider: The specified network name is no longer available. [SQLSTATE 08S01]
Communication link failure [SQLSTATE 08S01]
Types of job steps failing: DBCC Checkdb, LiteSpeed backups, re-indexing sql in stored procs, home-grown database update stored procs. These types of job steps are failing on 3 different servers in a 4-way active cluster although all 4 servers have the same type of job steps. No steps involved attempt cross-server processes, job only uses its own server and SAN.
Environment: 4-way active IA64bit cluster Windows 2003 datacenter running SQL2005 RTM. All 4 nodes attached to EMC Clarion SAN.
What we have already looked at: No additonal messages in event viewers. SQL Agent additional logging shows same error. Network services has monitored and sees nothing. Network services is current on firmware upgrades (just applied last batch 2 weeks ago) and still got 2 more errors after the upgrades. I've seen other postings (with no solutions) where people have same error with SQL2000 through SQL2005 SP2, so i don't believe SP2 will help this.

I'm green on this networking stuff so any help is greatly appreciated.
I have setup my home computer as a server and assigned a static IP to it. I installed SQL Server 2005 Developer and allowed remote connections to it through the Surface Area Config tool, added port 1433 TCP and 1434 UDP to firewall's exception list, and started the SQL Server Browser service.
Now I can't seem to remote connect to this SQL Server from my office network. Is there something I'm doing wrong here?

Hi Folks,
This is regarding the intermittent failure of communication between the application server and database server in one of our customer environment. Application error as well as SQL error log shows "General Network Error","Communication Link Failure". Please find below the server configuration
Application Server OS: Win 2003 server + Service Pack1, Standard Edition
Database Server OS: Win 2003 server + Service Pack1, MS SQL Server 2000 + SP4
We have checked the Client/Server Network utility associated with SQL Server and found TCP/IP protocol is used in communication neither than Named Pipes. DSN is used. We have also followed and implemented as per one KB article which mentioned Win 2003 server's feature of preventing Denial of Service attacks (Chance may be there to prevent the valid login packets).We made the registry changes and disabled this feature. A scheduled job which updates the database happens every morning. Also backup was done using a backup utility which needs the exclusive access to DB. So we have asked the customer to use enterprise manager for back up the DB instead of using the other utility to backup. If any one have experienced the same issue, please let me know.

We've had two instances now where when there is a network connection timeout to the mirror from the primary, the primary db server goes to 100% utilization and refuses all connections.
The first time we had to reboot the primary, the 2nd time mirroring picked up again 10 minutes later.
There are two dbs being mirrored, one is 15gig, the other 4gig. Both boxes are running SQL2005 64 bit and Win 2003 64bit.
This happened at 6am and typically there shouldn't be a lot of traffic at that time but here are the error messages in the SQL log below.
We are going to try and move db communications to a separate network and network card - but this looks like either a bug in mirroring or a configuration problem on our end - though it works just fine other times.
Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

After adding the Witness Server to the Mirror session, the Witness Connection state between the Mirror and Witness Connection is Disconnected and the state between Principal and Witness Connection is Connected.
The procedures defined in Books Online was used to setup Database Mirroring...when the Witness server was added to the Mirror session, only the alter database T-SQL statement was executed on the Principal server.
ALTER DATABASE <db_name> SET WITNESS = 'TCP://<servername>:<port>'
After executing the above statement, a few seconds later the state between Principal and Witness Connection changed to Connected and the state between Mirror and Witness Connection remains Disconnected.
The Mirror session is not using Certificates, every server is on the same domain, using the same domain login account, and all servers have SP2 installed running Enterprise Edition.
Any idea's why the state between Mirror and Witness Connection remains Disconnected?

I am trying to setup service broker by following the article on http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/915852
The script ran without error, but when I try to send a message, I get the following in the trace Audit Broker Conversation and the message is not delivered.
The certificate's private key cannot be found
This message could not be delivered because the security context could not be retrieved.
Does anyone know what I did wrong, is it the Certficate in the Master Database or the Target Database

i'm trying to make private messages like the one in this site, i didnt start programming yet, the problem is in the DB schema, i have 3 tables (Users, Messages, MessageDetails) i think the problem that the UserID is related to the other two Tables, so to know the sender and reciever, when i try to view all messages for specific user and show all users who sent it, it give nothing back, so any help in the DB, thanx 4 help.

Any ideas or tips on solving this issue? We've noticed it is due to larger queries as smaller ones do work with no problems.
The servers are behind a BSD box running iptables, has 1433,1434 along with standard web ports wide open. Anything outbound is allowed.
Some further testing via ODBC on the IIS server improved things. No more connection pooling for the SQL Server driver allows for 1/3 of the query to run. Still 2/3s of it doesn't show up, and that general network error message appears.
Should have 330 rows if it works right.

Does somebody knows why?
I am running the DTS from a computer (not the server where the DTS is stored) and it is connected without any problem when this happens.

Hi Experts,
In our production system, there are high number activities involving very huge tables ( around 250 million records ).
For performance benefits , we are using dynamic queries in the stored procedures. We are also using WITH clause to FORCE appropriate indexes.
Will forcing the indexes have any negative effects ? or Forcing the index would REALLY improve the performance.
Any inputs would be highly appreciated.

I have an Itanium 64bit server to run SSIS packages on. I have one package with three parralell streams. When I run the package in 64 bit mode using dtexec, it runs through validation and exits with no reported errors, when I run it from a job, the job fails and says to see job log, which has no errors.
When I run it in 32 bit mode using the GUI, it runs all the way through.
Does anyone know how to launch SSIS in 32 bit mode from a job on an Itanium?

One of our clients controls data for about 150 companies. Each company has the same schema and is running SQL Server 7. The maintenence task is horrible. He would like to put all the data in one large database, but needs to control the access, so a user at one company selecting data in a table cannot have access to another company's data in the same table. I thought about using views for each company but that is 150 companies times 100 tables. With Oracle8i you can make virtual private databases. Can this be done in SQL Server 7? Thanks in advance

I set up Service broker (2008R2 -> 2012) across different servers and domains using certificates.I set up 2 queues (one for sending, one for receiving).I set up 6 services (3 for send, 3 for receive), all 3 sharing the same queue type. (srv_send_1, srv_send_2, srv_send_3), (srv_receive_1, srv_receive_2, srv_receive_3).I set up a route for each receiving service on the source, and for each sending service on the target.I set up a SB binding to the remote for each sender service type.I granted send rights to the sending services on the source server.
I then tested my first service, and it worked perfectly (still works).My second service however is failing with the error "The certificate's private key cannot be found".I am stumped, as all the setup code was a lot of copy/paste which I have checked, rechecked and even re-coded.Basically, here is what Im doing:

I have a couple of questions on the nature of shared and private deployment of SQL Server CE 2005 on mobile devices:
1. I've read that with a shared install, SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition files are automatically updated and serviced by Microsoft Update. I take it that this only applies to installations on desktop computers -- if you're installing on mobile devices, there IS no automatic update. Right?
2. I've also read that in order to do a shared install of SQL Server 2005 CE, the user must have administrative rights. How does this apply to installs on a mobile device? There is no such thing as an administrative user on a mobile device. However, mobile devices CAN require different levels of privilege to install certain programs -- do you need something like an application signed for privileged execution (via a M2M certificate) in order to do a shared install of SQL Server 2005 CE on a mobile device?
Or is the shared versus private deployment only an issue when deploying to a desktop?

MSDN has examples of deploying SQLCE privately for C# and VB.NET, but that doesn't seem to translate to C++. A .NET application just loads the assembly it needs from the local directory, but from what I can tell I need to use the OLE DB driver to use SQL CE in C++. The problem is that the OLE DB driver is a COM object that (presumably) needs to be registered.
Has anyone successfully used SQLCE from C++ without registering any COM objects? I'm thinking the only way to do that would be to call DllGetObject() on the DLL and get the object manually, but I've never done this so I'd hate to waste the time if there's an easier way, or if this won't work.

We are looking to put column level encryption on a table. Great! Wonderful! Look in books online and see that you must give "control" perm to the Certificate for any user that needs to use the symmetric key.
Now my question. I have backed up the Certificate to file. What I have found playing around with the commands is it is possible to run the following command:
Alter Certificate MyCert
Remove private key
BOL says their is no "Restore Certificate" command and to just use "Create Certificate". I have tried this and I keep getting an error saying the certificate already exist in the database.
What have I missed? How can I restore this certificate without restoring the ENTIRE database? Is there a permission set that can be applied to the Certificate to stop thsi kind of command from being run while still having the symmetric key usable? Any help would be of great use!

I use sqlclient to connect directly from my mobile 5 pocketpc to a sql server 2005 database on my desktop.
I use a sqldatareader to traverse the results of a query that delivers 2 fields: (1) the filespec, and (2) the image field.
I use a filestream with a binary writer to write the contents of the image data to the pocketpc's storage card.
I have a test table with 10 images, not one more than 4 MB. I cannot complete a test run prior to receiving the general network error.
The pocketPC is connected via activesync to the desktop, and I connect to the database with:
Integrated Security=false;
user id=sa
password=admin.
Any help with this strange error would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all,
As our DB has no primary keys or indexes ive taken a copy of all populated tables and tried to force primary keys within a new DB.
the problem is all off the tables have multiple datasets within them, a dataset for each year. This causes all instances of ID numbers to not be unique as they are replicated for every year they are active.
Its a school database so a student who has been here for 3 years will have 3 instances of his ID number, one for each years' data set.
So how do i force primary keys if there is no unique identifier? ive been highlighting both data set and ID columns and setting that combination as the primary key.
Essentially i need to analyse the relationships between the tabls in a diagram and also run some speed tests to see how fast the db works when it has indexes and primary keys.
the reason im writing is that ive done this on ten tables and with another 160 to do im just checking im doing the right thing?

The purpose is to take a row and set it to the hour of the day that it occurred in. This works fine, however I would like to force it to display every hour 0-23 regardless of whether or not it has a corresponding row.
So, if no row exists for 0, display 0 with null values for the rest of the columns.

Is there any harm in defining a SqlConnection as a private class variable for a web page?Private SqlConnection cn = new SqlConnectection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["MyString"].ConectionString);The connection is only opened in certain event handlers, and is closed right after use. It was always my understanding that creating the connection is not a big deal but opening the connection is. Is that correct?
