How To Get Aggregate Start And End Dates

Oct 8, 2004

Hi, I'm a bit lost on this SPROC, hoping somebody can jumpstart my brain a bit please.

What I have is tbl_Classes, with a row for every class that's been taught at a school. Each class was taught on certain dates, stored in tbl_Class_Dates. tbl_Class_Dates stores EVERY day the class met, not just the start and end dates. However, in this one case, I want to list class history only showing start and end date... something like:

SELECT Class_ID,
MIN(Class_Date) AS 'Start_Date',
MAX(Class_Date) AS 'End_Date'
FROM tbl_Class_Dates
WHERE ...
GROUP BY Class_ID, Class_Date
HAVING Class_Date > @SomeCutoffDate

Problem is, when I run the above format, it still gives me EVERY class row, and the MAX and MIN functions don't seem to work...

I think I'm on the wrong track here. Incidentally, the old PROC is using a CURSOR and looping through, getting the start and end date and storing it all in a temp table. I'm hoping to improve on that efficiency.

Thanks very much for any help, or let me know if I can clarify better. Cheers!

Transact SQL :: Aggregate 2 Dates And Concatenate Into New String

May 21, 2015

Have this table

ACCOU  NAME      NAME TODATE                            ID     EDUCAT    EXPIRYDATE
011647 MILUCON Empl1 1900-01-01 00:00:00.000 9751 VCA-basis 1900-01-01 00:00:00.000
011647 MILUCON Empl1 1900-01-01 00:00:00.000 9751 VCA-basis 2016-06-24 00:00:00.000
011647 MILUCON Empl1 1900-01-01 00:00:00.000 9751 VCA-VOL  2018-02-11 00:00:00.000

Need to get it like

ACCOU  NAME      NAME TODATE                            ID     EDUCAT    EXPIRYDATEstring
011647 MILUCON Empl1 1900-01-01 00:00:00.000 9751 VCA-basis 1900-01-01 00:00:00.000 2016-06-24 00:00:00.000
011647 MILUCON Empl1 1900-01-01 00:00:00.000 9751 VCA-VOL  2018-02-11 00:00:00.000

In other words I need to Aggregate the 2 dates and concatenated into a new string col string so basically a sum with a group by but instead of a sum I need to concatenate the string. I know this should be possible using stuff and for xml path but I can't seem to get my head around it everything I try concatenates all the strings, not just the appropriate ones.

Is There An Easier Way? Two Aggregate Fields From One Based On Dates

Oct 19, 2007

When I was looking at this I knew that I've done this same issue before without using temp tables at all but I need a push to to jar it loose.

I have a table like this:

Balance
Date

1
200
2/14/2000

2
350
2/14/2000

3
32
2/14/2000

2
723
2/14/1998

3
354
2/14/1998

1
321
2/14/2000

2
673
2/14/1998

3
581
2/14/2000

2
574
2/14/1998

3
50
2/14/2000

1
10
2/14/2000

And essentially need this.

Total Balance Before 1/1/2000
Total Balance After 1/1/2000

1
0
531

2
1970
350

3
354
663

Right now I'm splitting it into two temp tables and then joining them together.

Temp Table 1 has the sum of the balance grouped by field1 before 1/1/2000 and Temp table 2 has the after 1/1/2000 criteria.

Table 1 gets updates with field1 values from table 2 that aren't already there. And then the balance field after 1/1/2000 is merged in.

Utimately this will be used in a SPROC for a Multivalued SSRS report.

Defaulting Start And End Dates To The Previous Month.

May 17, 2007

I have two parameters in my report (StartDate and EndDate). I want to default these parameters to the previous month.

For example... If today is 5/17/2007, I want StartDate to be 4/1/2007 and EndDate to be 4/30/2007. If today would be January 30th 2007, I would want StartDate to be 12/1/2006 and EndDate to be 12/31/2006.

How can I do this?

Calculating Length Of Service Categories Based On Start Dates

May 1, 2007

Ok, so I've been struggling with the logic behind this one for a while, so I thought I'd ask you guys for some ideas :)

Basically, I have the following table structure
Employee(employee_number, continuous_start_date, ...)

The problem lies in working out a summary of service categories (0-6months, 7-12months, 13-24, 25+).
I can work out the length of service in months with the following code

SELECT DateDiff(mm, continuous_start_date, GetDate()) AS 'Service in months'
FROM employee

So the first stage is to summarise the length of service into groups as mentioned above.

Then the final stage is working out how many people are in each group!

Hope I have given enough information - and please do not post a full solution - just some hints on how to get the desired result ;)

Thanks later, and in advance :p

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Pass Dates For Previous Months Start And End Date

I've SSRS sales report to which I need to pass the dates for previous month's start date and end date which I am able to pass using below code. However, since the sales report has data from the past year(2014) I need to pass the dates for last year as well. The below code gives StartDate1 as 2015-02-01 and EndDate1 as 2015-02-28. I need to get the dates for past year like 2014-02-01 as StartDate2 and 2014-02-28 as EndDate2

How To Use The Custom Code (getting Start And End Dates Of Every Month In Date Range) In The Report ?

Mar 29, 2007

Hi all,

I am trying to use the custom code in the report but I don't think I am understanding how this is being used.

I have a function to get starting months for a report parameter.
The function is below:-

--------------------------------------------------------------
Shared Function GetStartingMonths() as String
dim strDefault as string
dim CurrentMonth as String
Dim SqlString as String

'strDefault = Month(Now) & "/1/" & Year(Now)
CurrentMonth = "5/1/2002"
Do While CDate(CurrentMonth) <= Now
SqlString = SqlString + "Select " & CurrentMonth & " as value, " & MonthName(Month(CurrentMonth)) & " " & Year(CurrentMonth) & " as MonthYear"
CurrentMonth = dateadd("m",1,CDate(CurrentMonth))

if Cdate(CurrentMonth) = Now then
Exit Do
else
sqlString = SqlString & " Union "
end if

Loop

return SqlString

End Function
---------------------------------------------------------------
what i am trying to do here, and hopefully produce a sql string that would fill my dataset of dates and their representation.

In the dataset, I had put the following expression
=Code.GetStartingMonths()

However, I can't seem to get the parameter to display the dates. shows up as disabled in my report.

Am I doing something wrong here or is there a better way to doing this ?

Additionally, I was wondering whether there is a better SQL code that would achieve the same thing I am doing ?

thanks !

SQL Server 2008 :: Show Single Placement Dates As Start And End Date For Asset

May 24, 2015

I have a table called 'AssetPlacements' that shows the dates when certain objects (AssID) were placed at certain locations (LocID).

ID AssID LocID PlacementDate
1112015-05-01
2122015-05-06
3132015-05-09
4212015-05-03
5222015-05-07
6232015-05-11

I'd like to show the assets with a start date and end date for the placement of the asset.

The start date to be the placement date and the end date to be the next placement date of the asset.

Where there is no next placement date to then show the end date as the current date, so hopefully the table will show as the following.

ID AssID LocID StartDate EndDate
1112015-05-01 2015-05-06
2122015-05-06 2015-05-09
3132015-05-09 [GetDate()]
4212015-05-03 2015-05-07
5222015-05-07 2015-05-11
6232015-05-11 [GetDate()

I'm guessing some sort of recursion is required here to produce this.

Transact SQL :: Find Missing Months In A Table For The Earliest And Latest Start Dates Per ID Number?

Aug 27, 2015

I need to find the missing months in a table for the earliest and latest start dates per ID_No.  As an example:

create table #InputTable (ID_No int ,OccurMonth datetime)
insert into #InputTable (ID_No,OccurMonth)
select 10, '2007-11-01' Union all
select 10, '2007-12-01' Union all
select 10, '2008-01-01' Union all
select 20, '2009-01-01' Union all
select 20, '2009-02-01' Union all
select 20, '2009-04-01' Union all
select 30, '2010-05-01' Union all
select 30, '2010-08-01' Union all
select 30, '2010-09-01' Union all
select 40, '2008-03-01'

For the above table, the answer should be:

ID_No OccurMonth
----- ----------
20 2009-02-01
30 2010-06-01
30 2010-07-01

1) don't include an ID column,

2) don't use the start date/end dates in the data or

3) use cursors, which are forbidden in my environment.

Nothing is normalized – everything is repeated in every record. The fields are:
customerNumberInvoice_numberPO_numberQtyDescriptionLine_numberLine_totalFreightTaxInvoice_date
So an if an order has 10 line items, the header information (invoice number, PO number, ivoice date) are repeated on each of the lines
I am writing a query to show the following
Order number, Invoice total, Date
select invoice_no, sum(line_total + freight + tax) as invoiceTotal, customerNumber, Invoice_date from invoices  group by invoice_no, Invoice, customerNumber
This works great -  for each invoice I get the invoice number, InvoiceTotal, and Date
Then I was asked to add the PO Number – this is where I can’t get it right.
When I added “PO_number to the query, I got two lines for each invoice
select invoice_no, sum(line_total + freight + tax) as invoiceTotal, customerNumber, Invoice, PO_number from invoices  group by invoice_no, Invoice, Sold_To_Cust_No, PO_number
Please help - I need to end up with: invoice_no, invoiceTotal, customerNumber, Invoice_date and PO_number (sequence does not matter)
Thanks

Feb 21, 2008

Does anyone know how to make a query and use an aggregate function?   This is my current code...any help would be great.
"SELECT tblTopic.Topic_ID, tblTopic.Subject, MAX(tblThread.Message_date) AS MessageDate, tblThread.Message FROM (tblThread INNER JOIN tblTopic ON tblThread.Topic_ID = tblTopic.Topic_ID) WHERE (tblThread.Message_Date LIKE '%' + @fldGenus + '%' GROUP BY tblTopic.Topic_ID, tblTopic.Subject, tblThread.Message">
Also, How can i limit the query to only bringing up 5 records?
 I'm trying to get a datagrid to show the 5 most recent forum posts for a particular category.
Thanks.
