Hey guys, I have a view with dates (TheDate) meant to be arranged in descending order. When I 'Execute SQL' while in the view, the DESC order works just fine and shows up with the latest date first going down. However, once I 'OPEN VIEW' the order keeps defaulting to ASCending order.
How do I keep it in DESC order for viewing? Here's the statement:
SELECT TOP (100) PERCENT TheDate
FROM dbo.MyDates
ORDER BY TheDate DESC
I have been using Access 2003 as a front end to a SQL 2k database. Dates are sorted in a descending fashion. I recently upgraded the sql server database to 2005 and dates can no longer be sorted properly. I have set the database compatibility level to sql2000 within the sql2005 database engine but no luck. Any suggetions on how to fix this?
Here is my sp. I want it to order by descending date, but now it is 1st Feb it is putting this at the bottom, though January is still sorted fine. I need the dates to display in UK format dd/mm/yy

Because the "-" means "continues", it the thing is still activated, so if it makes it easier, i could put the today's year afterwards during the query, if it ends with a - ...
Now, simply doing a SELECT * FROM [table] ORDER BY TIME;
Sorts it "perfectly", apart from the "2002-" is just placed before 2005 and after 2001.
So, of course, it fails on all entries with a leading "-" ...
Right when I clicked "submit", of course, I can simply replace all entries with a time ending with "-", with the todays Year, so at least they will get at the end of the query...
Well, have to do a union, first sorting all without the "-", then sorting all with the "-", and that should be it...
Below SQL gives the results of 2 columns and I need the DepartmentandDate column to be ORDER BY on date desc for that CID. Expected result is in the screenshot(attachment)...

Been having a good root around the forums and the site here and there's some real smart people on here, i'm hoping one or more of them can help me out. I'm expecting this to be a simple question for some of you, however it's way beyond me at this point!
Product price is captured at time of order, so that reports aren't affected by discounts or promotions, and stored with the productid in orderitems.
I want to get a report between a set of dates and with certain flags set (see below example) and then get a list of unique products, quantity sold and sales values for that products. Results table would have 4 columns; ProductCode, ProductTitle, QuantitySold, Sales Value.
So far I have this:

Which gets my summed quantities, and I guess I could use ASP to multiply that by the current price, but that defeats the point of setting the database up properly in the first place! I know how to design data, i just don't know how to get it back out again
I could most likely just do the whole thing in ASP and get it to output the correct answer, so if it's impossible/very difficult to do it in pure SQL then I'll go that route. Ideal situation would be a stored proc or saved query that I can pass a start date, an end date and a siteid to and that will get me the answers I want!

I have a program that calls queries (OLAP system) the system includes a dimension of date: Year, Quater, Month, Week
When the result appears in the table, it is not in order? Only the year is in oredr and after that each heirachy is wrong and not in order....not sure how to do this!!!

I also want to order by date but when I do that it doesn't order correctly because of the conversion to char data type (for example, it puts 6/15/05 before 9/22/04 because it only looks at the first number(s) and not the year). If I try to cast it back to smalldatetime in the order by clause it tells me that ORDER BY items must appear in the select list if the statement contains a UNION operator. I get the same message if I try putting just "r.RRDate" in the ORDER BY clause. It's not that big of a deal - I can lose the formatting on the date if I need to to get it to sort correctly, but this query gets used frequently and I'd like to keep the formatting if possible.

In SQL sERVER 2008, I have two fields - Depatment and Employees. I need to sort the result set by employee number ascending order, with following exception
1)when department number = 50 - the preferred order is Employee # - 573 followed by 551-572 (employee # belong to Dept 50 = 551-573)
2)When Department number = 20 – the preferred sort order is Employee # 213-220, followed by Employee # 201-213 (employee # belong to Dept 20 = 201-220)
I never paid much attention to this before but I noticed this today in a new table I was creating.
For tables defined in the tabular model the table properties have something like SELECT Blah FROM TableName ORDER BY Blah Then in the tabular model the table's data is in the same order it was ordered by in the data source for the table.
I have a date table I setup and I noticed it is NOT respecting the sort order.
I have it sorted by DateID which sorts with the oldest date first and newest date as last row.However, the table that is imported and stored in the data model is not in that order.
I can of course manually sort the rows in BIDS/DataTools, but I find this discrepancy odd.
Would this have negative impacts on the EARLIER function for example if the data rows are not in the order specified?

So I ask for your advice here, is there any settings can tell the db use default sort order when the order by column value are the same? Or is there any other solution to resolve this problem in one shot?

I have created view by jaoining two table and have order by clause.

Now, I would like to order the results of this query... but I don't want to simply order them by ASC or DESC. Instead, I need to order them as follows:
Executive Board Members, Delegates, Grievance Chairs, and Negotiators
My question: Can this be done through MS SQL or do I need to add a field to my [Leadership] table named 'leadershipImportance' or something as an integer to denote the level of importance of the position so that I can order on that value ASC or DESC?
