Information About Objects Using A Procedure

Oct 15, 2007

Is there any way to know the list of objects using one of my procedure? I could get the list of objects that my procedure uses via EM. Actually the documentation and design is pretty poor here, and I am fairly new working with SQL Server.

The version I am working on is Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.2187 (Intel X86) Standard Edition on Windows NT 5.0 (Build 2195: Service Pack 4)

Drop All Objects

Jul 18, 2007

HI,

Been poking around in sysobjects and information_schema.routines trying to work out how to best write scripts that will drop all specific objects from a database.

That is, scripts to drop all tables, views, stored procs, functions ( FN, IF, TF ) but can't seem to figure out appropriate way to do it.

A pointer on how to drop all of any one of the above object types would be greatly appreciated and I should be able to work out the others.

Further, when executing multiple scripts I am writing scripts like this...

ddl_batch.sql

Code Snippet

:R table1.sql

:R table2.sql

:R ufn_func1.sql

:R ufn_func2.sql

:R view_table1

:R view_table2

:R usp_proc1.sql

:R usp_proc2.sql

And executing via:

sqlcmd -S serverinstance -i ddl_batch.sql

This is to maintain individual object type scripts, and then to execute them together in dependency order, rather than executing one monolithic batch script. Is this a reasonable way to go about it or is there a better way?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Drop All Objects In Database?

Feb 14, 2006

I'd like to write a stored procedure to drop all objects in a SQL Server 2000 database owned by a particular uid. Originally I'd hoped to use these two stored proc built-ins for the task: sp_MScheck_uid_owns_anything (to get a list of all objects owned by a uid) and sp_MSdrop_object (to drop the objects). I've run into a few problems along the way:

1. If I run this command

EXEC sp_MScheck_uid_owns_anything 5

I get this weird error message:

"The user owns objects in the database and cannot be dropped."

Not sure why that is since I'm just trying to list the objects, not drop them.

2. I tried running a simple query to get the objects from the system table instead:

SELECT * from [dbo].[sysobjects] where uid = 5

This returns a resultSet as you'd expect. When I wrote a stored procedure to loop through these and use sp_MSdrop_object it seemed to fail whenever it encountered a foreign key object. Here is the error message:

The request for procedure 'name of foreign key' failed because 'name of foreign key' is a unknown type object.

Can anyone give advice as to the best way to go about doing this? I'd really prefer not to have to drop the entire database and recreate it. Thanks!

How To Retrieve All Information Abt All Constraints Inorder To Drop And Recreate Them

May 25, 2004

Hello,
I need to retrieve all the information about all the foreign key constraints, inorder to store them temporarily (to be deleted later)and then recreated after making the necessary modifications to the concerned tables.
The stored proc sp_helpconstraint shows all the constraint types, their user-defined or system-supplied name, the columns on which they have been defined, and the expression that defines them. But I don't know whether it can be manipulated to get what I want.I need to get it done programmatically..so that I can integrate it in my program which I'm building up progressively.
Any help or scripts would be appreciated!

ALTER TABLE DROP COLUMN LastUpdated Failed Because One Or More Objects Access This Column.

Mar 7, 2008

Hi I’m trying to alter a table and delete a column I get the following error. The object 'DF__Morningst__LastU__19EB91BA' is dependent on column 'LastUpdated'.
ALTER TABLE DROP COLUMN LastUpdated failed because one or more objects access this column. I tried deleting the concerned constraint. But the next time I get the same error with a different constraint name. I want to find out if I can dynamically check the constraint name and delete it and then drop the column. Can anyone help.IF EXISTS(SELECT 1FROM sysobjects, syscolumnsWHERE sysobjects.id = syscolumns.idAND sysobjects.name = TablenameAND syscolumns.name = column name)BEGIN EXECUTE ('ALTER TABLE tablename DROP CONSTRAINT DF__SecurityM__DsegL__08C105B8')EXECUTE ('ALTER TABLE tablenameDrop column columnname)ENDGO

Not Able To Create DB Objects From Vb Script

Oct 4, 2007

Hi All,
I have a SQL script which has creation of some table variables. When I run this query in Query Analyzer, I get proper results. But, when I use the same script to execute from VB Script, it is not running at all. I tried a simple select statement which works fine; but with the one I want to run, it fails to run. I am trying to print the SQL script from VB script, and it appears to be fine. I think the creation of DB objects is where it is getting stuck. Any help here please??

Below is the SQL Script.

Code Block
DECLARE @COMPSINGRP TABLE (NAME VARCHAR(100))
INSERT INTO @COMPSINGRP SELECT NAME FROM COMPUTER WHERE IDCOMPUTER IN (SELECT INSTANCEID FROM [FN_COMPUTERSINGROUPLIKENAME] ('UBS: APPLICATIONS - DEALAXIS') )

AND
CC.Name = C.Name
AND

FROM Computer C
INNER JOIN [fn_ComputersInGroupLikeName] ('UBS: Applications - DealAxis') CG ON C.idComputer = CG.InstanceID
INNER JOIN Alert A ON CG.InstanceID = A.idComputer
WHERE (CONVERT (NVARCHAR(12),A.TimeOfLastEvent,111) = CONVERT(NVARCHAR(12),GETDATE(),111) )
--ORDER BY C.NAME
) AS RESTARTS
DECLARE @NOCLUE TABLE (NAME VARCHAR(100))
SELECT 'The Server '+ NAME+' did not have any restart information. Please Check.' FROM @COMPSINGRP WHERE NAME NOT IN (SELECT NAME FROM @COMPRESTARTS)

Any help or suggestion would help me out. Thanks a lot.

Drop-create Table

Mar 17, 2000

Hi,

I had a question and did not obtain an answer. So I am trying to rephrase and ask again, in case I was not clear the first time.

When we drop and recreate a table, do we always have to recompile the stored procedures that reference the table? Or is only under certain scenarios that we need to do so- like if an index on the table is changed
Please let me know
Thanks in advance

Drop/create Index

Feb 16, 2007

Hi, all,
I want to re-create an index on a production table.
I got an error 644 "could not find index entry...".
The DBCC CHECKDB and CHECKTABLE gave me this:

Server: Msg 8928, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Object ID 37575172, index ID 6: Page (1:939782) could not be processed. See other errors for details.
Server: Msg 8939, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Table error: Object ID 37575172, index ID 6, page (1:939782). Test (*(((int*) &m_reservedB) + i) == 0) failed. Values are 7 and 36.
DBCC results for 'Mfg_DFSFNSF'.
There are 1142314 rows in 326143 pages for object 'Mfg_DFSFNSF'.
CHECKTABLE found 0 allocation errors and 2 consistency errors in table 'Mfg_DFSFNSF' (object ID 37575172).

The table script for the index is like this:

CREATE UNIQUE INDEX [Mfg_ITMDH_MbrIdx] ON [dbo].[Mfg_DFSFNSF]([_ITMDH_OwnRow], [_ITMDH_MbrKey], [RECTYPE]) WITH FILLFACTOR = 70 ON [PRIMARY]

My question is that can I drop it and run above create it to fix the problem in live mode?

I know the other option will be:
DBCC CHECKTABLE (FSDBMR.dbo.Mfg_DFSFNSF, repair_allow_data_loss)
But that has to put the db under single user mode.

Thanks!

Can't Create Or Edit Existing Objects From SQL SRV 7.0

May 4, 1999

Hello,

I just upgraded our existing 6.5 installation with the new SQL server 7.0. I can't get any of the existing stored procedures which I imported from 6.5 into 7.0 to allow me to edit them. I do all of my design from Visual InterDev and the SQL Server 6.5 version would allow me to create and edit stored procedures. It would also allow me to create/design new tables.

With SQL Server 7.0 I do not have an option to edit or create any of these items. I have created a new login, assigned it a password, given it admin rights/roles and I am still unable to remotely create these items. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any assistance

Create Or Drop Dimension Members

Mar 19, 2008

Hi All,

I am Srinivas working on SSAS 2005. I am not able to create or drop dimension members. I need to drop and create all members in one dimension before cube processing, as the columns are coming dynamically.

E.g. ALTER CUBE [Reporting] DROP DIMENSION MEMBER [Tbl Analysis Test].[Name]
Here cube is [Reporting] , dimension is [Tbl Analysis Test] and member is [Name].

Its giving the following error " Parsing the query ... Query (1, 46) The member '[Name]' was not found in the cube when the string, [Tbl Analysis Test].[Name], was parsed. Parsing complete"

Please look into this issue, advice me what do I do ASAP.

Thoughts On ALTER Vs. DROP & CREATE.

Nov 8, 2006

Thought I should post in the newbie forum for a while, instead. :-)

I have a couple of scripts that I've generated that drop a couple of system stored procedures and recreate them. I'm not sure why I did it in the first place, but I think it was that it wouldn't let me run an ALTER statement on them. Specifically, I'm now looking at sp_add_operator. I changed it to a 500 character email field instead of whatever it was (100, I think.)

/* Explanation: Why did I do that? SQL Mail is prohibited here, so I'm using CDO_Sysmail to email myself and the developers if a job fails. The list of people to email is determined by the owner of the database, who is also an operator in SQL. I get the list of emails from the email field of the operator properties. Hence, I need a bigger email field. Yes, I now know it would most likely be better to create an ADMIN database on each server for this kind of stuff. (Thanks to Tara for that blogged suggestion.) */

While I will probably go back to the default stored procedure, this got me to thinking: when would it be better to use an ALTER statement on a SProc rather than to do a DROP and CREATE?

Your thoughts, oh SQL gurus?
