Is there a way using MS SQL Server and Enterprise Manager to get a text
document (or perhaps even a Word document) listing all table names,
column names, etc of a database?
Hi All. I'm an Oracle DBA who's currently being asked to look at a SqlServer Database. I need a list of columns per table, but am having trouble. I'll admit I might be being lazy here, but I'm in a hurry and using the valueable resources available to me!! Would really appreciate the sql i need to copy into the query window. Much obliged!! I need........ Table A Column1 Datatype Column2 Datatype Table B Column1 Datatype Column2 Datatype etc.... Many thanks.
The following returns all base tables within the database of type "varchar":
Code: SELECT TABLE_SCHEMA, TABLE_NAME, COLUMN_NAME FROM mydb.information_schema.columns WHERE TABLE_SCHEMA = 'master' AND TABLE_CATALOG = 'mydb' AND DATA_TYPE IN('varchar')" AND TABLE_NAME IN( SELECT TABLE_NAME FROM mydb.information_schema.tables WHERE TABLE_TYPE = 'BASE TABLE' AND TABLE_CATALOG = 'mydb' AND TABLE_SCHEMA = 'master')
What I then want to do is... For each of these results:
Code: select [COLUMN_NAME] from [TABLE_SCHEMA].[TABLE_NAME] WHERE ID = 'test'
Is it possible to do this in one SQL command? Or do I manually have to do it for each in the list from my first query?
Hey guys,Couldn't find this anywhere in google.I want a list of all database column names for a specific table/viewfrom across database.I tried this...-----------------------------------------------------Select *[color=blue]>From Information_Schema.Columns[/color]-----------------------------------------------------I also tried this...-----------------------------------------------------select syscolumns.name, sysobjects.name, * from syscolumns, sysobjectswheresysobjects.id = syscolumns.idand (sysobjects.xtype='U' or sysobjects.xtype='S')-----------------------------------------------------These queries return information about the CURRENT database. But, if I want to do it ACROSS database or across servers.. how can Ido this?I will express my gratitude to everyone who is kind enough to answerthis question. (I've been stuck with this problem for a while now.)Thanks!OhMyGaw!
What SQL statement can i run to return a list of new tables or columns that exist in the Sales Database on Server A, which do not exist in the Sales Database in Server B.
Easy so far. But I what I need is to find out whether the audited table contains text(or nText / image) columns or not. If it contains any text columns the statement should automatically be changed to
select a,b into #inserted from inserted
Remember that the trigger must be usable for any table in the database without manually entering the tables structure or the column names.
Best would be fetching the structure fropm the system views (INFORMATIONSCHEMES)
Hi,I have 2 tables and each has a text column. When i compared the 2columns with the LIKE operator i found something strange.create table test1( var1 text )create table test2( var1 text )insert into test1 values ( '-- [ CustomerType = 1 ]' )insert into test2 values ( '-- [ CustomerType = 1 ]' )select * from test1, test2where test1.var1 like test2.var1The last query surprisingly did not return any results. However when itook of the '[' in the text data and had something like thisinsert into test1 values ( '-- CustomerType = 1 ]' )insert into test2 values ( '-- CustomerType = 1 ]' )the query returned expected results, showing one row.any helpful would be great.Regards,Arun Prakash. Hi, I have tried this code from http://jtkane.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!1pWDBCiDX1uvH5ATJmNCVLPQ!316.entry for full-text search on multiple tables & columns. Here's my code: SELECT * from [tStaffDir] AS e, [tStaffDir_PrevEmp] t,CONTAINSTABLE([tStaffDir], *, @Name) as AwhereA.[KEY] = e.[ID] andt.[ID] = e.[ID] I have FT the both the tables above and I am able to get results from the [tStaffDir] table but not the [tStaffDir_PrevEmp] table. The [tStaffDir_PrevEmp] table does have a column (which is [ID]) that is indexed, unique and non-Nullable.Please advise what I should do and look out for. Many Thanks.
Hi, i'm trying to do a full text search on my site to add a weighting score to my results. I have the following database structure: Documents: - DocumentID (int, PK) - Title (varchar) - Content (text) - CategoryID (int, FK) Categories: - CategoryID (int, PK) - CategoryName (varchar) I need to create a full text index which searches the Title, Content and CategoryName fields. I figured since i needed to search the CategoryName field i would create an indexed view. I tried to execute the following query: CREATE VIEW vw_DocumentsWITH SCHEMABINDING ASSELECT dbo.Documents.DocumentID, dbo.Documents.Title, dbo.Documents.[Content], dbo.Documents.CategoryID, dbo.Categories.CategoryNameFROM dbo.Categories INNER JOIN dbo.Documents ON dbo.Categories.CategoryID = dbo.Documents.CategoryID GOCREATE UNIQUE CLUSTERED INDEX vw_DocumentsIndexON vw_Documents(DocumentID) But this gave me the error: Cannot create index on view 'dbname.dbo.vw_Documents'. It contains text, ntext, image or xml columns. I tried converting the Content to a varchar(max) within my view but it still didn't like. Appreciate if someone can tell me how this can be done as surely what i'm trying to do is not ground breaking.
Can you not add a text column to a full text index?? If I change it to a nvarchar it works fine but if I change it to a text column it wont index. Anyone know how to fix this?
Hi, I know sys.tables and sys.columns gives me a list of tables andcolumns in a SQL 2005 database. How can I list Columns in a specific Table please? Thanks in advance,Ronny
According to BOL, columns in an ORDER BY clause do not have to be in the SELECTcolumn list unless the SELECT includes DISTINCT, or the UNION operator. Is this a SQL Server thing, or SQL standard behavior? That is, if I were to writeabsolutely pure SQL-92, must columns in the ORDER BY clause be present in the SELECTlist?
I would like to get a list of all the unused columns, I have tons of files and fields in the package probably in the hundreds and I need to know which fields I am not using to see which fields are important not to miss out, so is there any way I can get them in a text file or any other format?
I want to set properties such as font family, font size, etc as high as possble in the report.
Is it possible to have textbox fonts inherited from a container like a list, or report?
Currently it seems I need to set fonts on every textbox.
Similarly, when I use report designer to put a textbox on a report, the textbox decides the Font is Normal, Arial, 10pt, Normal. Where is this setting stored?
Supposing there are three Columns: Countries, Provinces and States. Then when the user enters “USA” for country, it will bring up a list of states, if they enter “Canada” for country, it will bring up a list of provinces, if they enter another country, it will not bring up any list?
I am using a script component to transform data. In the script component I created a bunch of fields for the output. Is there any way to loop through that list of columns? Is there code I can use in the script component to access the names, data types, data etc?
I saw a lot of informaiton on the OutputColumnCollection as part of some IDTSOuput90 thing (greek to me). As best I can guess this is for creating your own new columns, but can I see what columns are already defined via the script interface?
Can anybody provide an example of how to specify a column list in a CONTAINS statement? Documentation says it must be comma separated inside parenthesis - I have tried (every combination of) this but always get the error "Incorrect syntax near '('.", for example:
SELECT .... WHERE CONTAINS((Name,Description), '"options"')
This works fine when just querying one column (without the parenthesis).
i want to write a stored procedure where i pass column names a parameters and i want to get result based on that For ex:- if i pass the parameters as col3 and col5 where id =1 then i should the result as
id col3 col4 col5 1 3 4 5
and if i pass input as col2and col6 where id =3, the result should be id col2 col3 col4 col5 col6 3 4 8 2 6 9
I have 3 different companies that share the same ticket_types(CRMS System). I need to display the Ticket Types and the 3 company's Ticket Count:
Ticket Type | Company A Count | Company B Count | Company C Count
I can get the information individually for each company, but if a company doesn't have a ticket in one of the ticket_types, then it isn't displayed in a row. So, I tried to write the following, which isn't pulling back any data.
DECLARE @startdate date = '20150306' DECLARE @enddate date = '20151031' DECLARE @AcctGrp varchar(20) = '111' ;WITH TType AS ( SELECT ctp.description as TicketType
[Code] .....
If I run each SELECT individually from above (excluding the last SELECT), it works and I get the following:
TicketType AR Request Credit Availability/Rush Cancel Order Credit Card Payment Expedite Order Freight Quote
[Code] ...
How to get the query results? Am I even close to getting it right?
I am trying to convert all columns to rows in sql, but giving an error.
SELECT Employee, Orders FROM (SELECT CisId, [Z_Id], [ModuleType] FROM CIS) p UNPIVOT (Orders FOR Employee IN (CisId, [Z_Id], [ModuleType]) )AS unpvt;
Error: The type of column "Z_Id" conflicts with the type of other columns specified in the UNPIVOT list.If I remove "Z_Id" from selection then giving same error for ModuleType also.
Does any one know what command(s) I can use from a SQL prompt to tell me what tables are cruuently residing in a particular database. I'm looking for something along the lines of "select list_of_all_tables from tempdb", which can be applied to any valid db on the system.
