How To Get The Folder Wise Security Info Of All The Users?

Dec 21, 2006

Hi,
The Report Manager portal has many folders. For each folder there are specific users with different roles.
I am trying to figure out the way to extract User, folder wise security data. I want to run a query and retrieve users name, the folders they have access to and the user role corresponding to that folder.

Use ReportServer

SELECT u.UserName, r.RoleName FROM users u, policyuserrole pur, roles r

WHERE pur.UserID=u.UserID AND pur.RoleID=r.RoleID
The above query fetches all the users and their roles.
The folder information corresponds to Path column of Catalog table. Am unable link this table with the above query.
TIA

SQL Security :: Did Not Create Any New Users And There Are No Other Users Listed In Accounts Section

Sep 28, 2015

I am trying to revert back to Windows 7 after upgrading to Windows 10, however it will not let me and the following message occurs: "Remove new accounts. Before you can go back to a previous version of Windows, you'll need to remove any user accounts you added after the most recent upgrade. The accounts need to be completely removed, including their profiles. You created one account (NT SERVICEMSSQLSERVER) Go to Settings> Accounts> Other users to remove these accounts and then try again".However I did not create any new users and there are no other users listed in the Accounts section.

Difference Between Database -- &&> Users And Security --&&> Users

Nov 28, 2006

Hi Team,

In SQL Enterprise Manager, when we expand "Database -->Users", we see the

users there. When we expand "Security --> logins" we see the same users there.

Can you differentiate these two.

Thanks

Connecting Trace Info To Blocked Users?

Sep 22, 2005

In master.dbo.sysprocesses I can filter for blocked users (Blocked >0)and I can create a self join(ON SPID = Blocked) to see what userLoginame is causing the block. In the column [cmd] I can see thecommand that the offending blocker is running to cause the block, butit only says "SELECT" etc. with no details about the stored procedurethat is causing the block. If I am running a Trace, I can see the exact stored proceduresincluding the parameters that every cmd is running. Is there a way to see that same Trace information when looking forblocked users in master.dbo.sysprocesses, or in some other place?Ideally what I want is a list of blocked users, who is causing theblocks and the stored procedure name (or other mischief) causing theblock.Any help is appreciated.lq

Navigation From The Root Folder To Specific Folders For Users

Apr 1, 2008

Hi there, I have the following setup in the report manager:

Root
|_ Sales
|_ Sales Export
|_ Marketing
|_ Production
|_ etc...

Now, I know that I can access each folder (f.e. Sales) by directly putting it into the URL. Is there a possibility to enable every user to the root folder and then denying access on specific folders? F.e.: Our Head of Sales should be able to navigate to the root folder and then dcecide whether he wants to enter the Sales or the Sales Export folder.

Is this possible? I tried a few things, but nothing works.

Thanks in advance!

Folder And Role Security Question

May 21, 2008

On our report server I have several folders. I would like to set up security such that a user doesn't see any folders except the "My Reports" folder (I enabled the My Reports site option) and a few other folders I specify. These are a shared folder and the models folder.

Is there a way to create a system level role that by default can't browse any folders except My Reports and ones I specifically grant? I would also like this person to default to having the item level security role of report builder to create reports off of report models.

The only way I have been able to accomplish this so far was to add the user to the the system users site level role and then go to every undesired folder and delete the item level role assignments for the user. It seems odd for the user to have access to every folder then to remove permissions from each folder. Should I create a role with no tasks and then selectively add in the permissions to the desired folders?

I did try creating a new system level role that only had the Execute Report Definitions task assigned and assigned the user exclusively to this role but they could still see all of the folders and their My Reports folder. When I created a new folder the user had been defaulted to item level roles of Browser and Report Builder. I suspect these defaults are what caused the new folder to be visible as soon as I created the folder.

I searched the forum for my question so hopefully I am not causing a re-answer of this question.

Thanks in advance,
Sean

SQL 2005 Reporting Services Security Info

Mar 29, 2007

We have 2005 Reporting Services fully functional - Dev, QA and prod (farm). I have at least 5 distinct business group trees in my structure, who have inherited or modified security based upon NT Users and AD groups. Now, we want to replace a major group (<domain_name>Domain Users) with a controlled group.

I cannot find anyway to report or map the folders that a specific NT User and AD group has rights. Cannot it be done?

Reporting Services 2005 - Giving Access To All AD-users For A Specific Folder

Jan 21, 2008

I am in a project where we are using a vanillla Reporting Services 2005 with the builtin report portal. No sharepoint integration yet.

We have successful deployments where we limit access to different folders based on AD-accounts and groups. In this particular case I have a folder for which I would like to allow access to all AD-users within the entire company.

So basically I know how to limit access but I don't know how to enable access for everyone. Is there a simple way to do it? I have googled and search mshelp but I couldn't find anything. I will admit to the search being quite quick but as usual time is short.

Checking Level Of Security Given The Folder Structure Being Used

Jan 23, 2008

Hi,

Could someone please advise if the report folder structure I am proposing will be secure enough so unauthorised users can't access the reports?

I have created three folders; Departments (that contains subfolders being one for each department), Sections (that contains subfolders being one for each section), and Open Access. A manager will either see the Department or Section folder and then the relevant subfolder for the area he/she manages.

I have deployed the reports from the Development Studio to the Home page, made them invisible there, but created linked reports that then show in the subfolders. Each subfolder contains a separate linked report and each has parameters set within the Properties tab of SSRS that only enables the manager who will access that subfolder to see the report details specific to their area.

A manager will then be given the browser role for only the subfolder he/she has access to.

I would like to be sure that a manager will not be able to see information in other subfolders. Will my proposed structure be secure enough?

Thanks

Missing Permission To Create Datasource, New Folder, Add Security..etc

Jun 20, 2007

I have windows 2003 reporting services 2005 that has been working fine. Now all of a sudden when I go to http://localhost/reports I am unable to assign security to folders(the link is hidden) the New data source button is hidden, the new folder button is hidden, upload folder and report builder are also hidden. I am logged in as aministrator.

Also when I connect to reporting services through SQL Mgmt Studio I have the same issue, there are no options for permissions only a general option.

I'm sure it's a permissions issue but what do i do to resolve?

Thx

Share A RSS File For Applying AD-USER To Folder SECURITY?

Mar 19, 2008

Has anyone written a RSS file that is used to add new Active Directory User/Group to SSRS, and applying security ROLES such as BROWSER?

I have new IT AD group that I need to apply to ALL folders on my PROD, QA and DEV servers. Way too many folders to do via SSMS or Web interface.

Would you be willing to share the RSS file?

Inheritance Of Security Role In Folder Structure Of Reports

May 16, 2007

Hi,
I have a folder structure of reports like this
Home
|
/
A B

Now, suppose I have created this folder, A first and user, say A_User is given permission to view this folder. I am expecting this user to browse from 'Home' to A folder but as you know to browse folder 'Home' he must also be added to 'Home' folder . So I add him to 'Home' now.

The problem comes when I add new folder B, for user B_User. The moment I add this folder A_User is also added to folder B because of the inheritance of users to child folders.
So user A is able to see both A and B folder....and thats my problem, he is supposed to only A folder and not B

Is there any way to disable this inheritance feature ??
I tried deleting A_User from B with a script using "InheritParentSecurity" method of ReportingService but it says that it can not delete inherited users.

How can I fix the problem ? without need to manually delete users from folders ??/

thanks

prashant

SQL Security :: Adding 3 Users To A Login?

Oct 28, 2015

I have to give three users read access to a database.  My manager told me to map them to a User called "zxDatabase.Read.ug".  I scripted  the User and got this...

CREATE
USER[zxDatabase.Read.ug]
FORLOGIN[zxDatabase.Read.ug]

I don't see a Login at the server level named zxDatabase.Read.ug, so this is confusing.  Where is this login in SSMS?

How do I map my three users to user zxDatabase.Read.ug. Or am I not understanding correctly?  Do I just add there windows login to the database as Users and configure them the same as zxDatabase.Read.ug

ASPNETDB Deploy With Users/Roles Security

Apr 10, 2007

I have developed a site on my local machine utilizing the built-in security/roles provides by ASP.NET 2.0.  I am trying to publish the web application to a production server.  It will publish correctly, however the ASPNETDB is not recognized.  The folder app_data is created with the proper database files.  My question is how do I set this up to use the data I have created in this database?  I've searched on how to accomplish this but haven't found any definitive answers.  I have found ScottGu's blog to be useful, but I was wondering if there is a different way.
1 - Do I push the data to a SQL Server install via SQL scripts?
2 - Can I link to the ASPNETDB that is created locally on my machine?
3 - If I make changes to the application and re-publish, is there a way to keep from overwriting the ASPNETDB on the server?
I am a unsure of how the built-in roles/security works when you are ready to push something to production.  If someone wouldn't mind pointing me in the right direction, it would greatly be appreciated.  Any literature, advice, links, etc.. would be great.

- Thanks
Andrew

Query Users In A Security Group With LDAP

Aug 11, 2004

I have a linked server set up and working correctly. I can create a query to get all the users from active directory with something like this:

SELECT [name], [samaccountname] from OpenQuery( ADSI,
'SELECT name, samaccountname FROM ''LDAP://DC=domain,DC=com'' WHERE objectClass = ''user'' and objectCategory=''Person''')

Now I am trying to select all the users in a specifed security group, but I am not having much luck. What is the best way to get this?

Thanks much.

SQL Security :: How To Organize And Secure Database Users

Apr 21, 2015

Is there any way in which I could distinguish a group of Database users from the other users. Say for e.g. store the Database users hierarchically, etc. Adding a Prefix/Suffix to the user name as a distinguish-er will not work in my case. I want to restrict the deletion of these Database users. Even the login with sysadmin or serveradmin rights should not be able to DROP those Database users.

Problem Getting Some Users To Be Able To Run Reports (probably Security Of Some Sort)

Jan 12, 2007

I am able to deploy and run reports from my screen at work, but some non-developers cannot run them. They can see the reports, but get the following error message when they click on the report:

An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)

Cannot create a connection to data source 'DataSource1'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection)

For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors
--------------------------
-----

- I assume the preceding error has something to do with credentials. I am using Windows security authentication for this. One user has worked through this and is now getting cannot run report query (one of the report queries in the report). Help would be appreciated.
