I use SQL 7.0 server to build large scaled Web application. I want to know that reasonable number of database in single machine. I know single machine can get a 32,767 database in SQL 7.0. We think database deploying method as following two cases.
Case 1) We will provide multiple web application services and each service will be put into each database. Some table in a database will get about 1,000,000 records. 1,000,000 users will access each database. The number of services will be 100.
Case 2) Or, we group 4~10 services and these group put into one database and another group of services put into another database.
What is the best database deplying method that reliable to performance and maintenance ?
I am new to SQL Server 2005 (but many years in SQL Server and .NET), and I am sort of having everything figured out for my company. However, one thing that still bothering me is that:
In the old Server 2000, you can execute a single step in a DTS package by right click the step and then click execute step.
In the new server 2005, I can only execute the whole package from the Management Tool and Edit the pack from VS 2005. Is there also a way for me to execute a single step in a SSIS package?
1.) I have developed some SSIS packages that are currently out in production. We are on to the next phase of development and enhancments to the packages are being developed as a phase 2 release. I can push these changes to a QA setup for testing. But I also need to do fixes to the existing packages out in production and run them through testing. Unfortunatly I do not have an extra server to have a QA and a QA Current Production setup for seperate testing. So is there any way to run two versions of the same package on one (the same) server? I presently store the packages in the MSDB. Can I have or specify which version of package to run?
2.) Additionally, can you run multiple configurations for a single version of a package but only call one of them? For example can I create two configurations and then specify which one to use when calling the package to run? So that I could have code pass which configuration to load which would change connection strings and such. Any examples would be awesome.
FROM [db_db].[dbo].[TEST] TC join [NEW_DB].[dbo].[Users]users on users.FirstName=TC.Username join [New_DB]..[Method_Master] Mstr on Mstr.Description=TC.Method join [New_DB]..[TestSource] TS on TS.Name = TC.TestName
basically there is a join between three tables to repalce all the varchars to the corresponding ID.
Please guide me in how should I go about in designing my SSIS package to achieve this requirement.
I have created a local user on Report Server Computer and the user has the administrative rights. When i try to connect Report Server (http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/reportserver) with this user's credantials. (ReportServer directory security is set -only- to Basic Authentication. ). I get the following error.
The number of requests for "XXXServerXXXUser" has exceeded the maximum number allowed for a single user. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SQL Server Reporting Services
Then i try to login using a different user with administrative rights on the machine, i can logon successfully. The system is up for a month but this problem occured today?!? What could be the problem?!?
I have a query set that returns values as part of a data set, I need a new one to return values from two queries to a single row.
select '1' as thekey, 'Total Picks' as Tot,sum(prod_qty) as picks from exceed.aseld, exceed.csymh where luis_id in ('I','E') and aseld.whse_id = 1 and ( (aseld.batch_id between goal_beg_batch and goal_end_batch and monitor_group = 'YK')
[code]....
is it possible to get the numbers from keys 1 & 2 on the same row in a new query?
Or if it is easier a query that with give me (completed picks/total picks) = a decimal I can feed to the display as a percentage.
I have a multiple package solution that I've deployed using the manifest file produced with the development environment. If I need to make a change to a single package, how do I then deploy this package? Is it a case of rebuilding the entire solution and re-running the manifest file, or is there a simpler way?
Hey, I've a few jobs which call SSIS packages. If I run the SSIS package, it runs fine but if I try to run the job which calls this package, it fails. Can someone help me troubleshoot this issue? None of my jobs that call an SSIS package work. All of them fail.
I want to create a package that imports data from a Visual Foxpro database to SQL Server 2005 Express database. I used the wizard in BI Development Studio (similar to the DTS in SQL Server 2000) to create a package and noticed that the SQL statements created in the Preparation SQL Task only has code for creating tables. I want to make the package such that it first creates the destination database before creating all the related tables in it! When I tried to edit the SQL code to include DROP DATABASE and/or CREATE DATABASE statements, these were rejected.
Is it possible to do this or do I have to first create the database outside the package and then call the package? I want to make this a seamless process for clients who do not have the know-how of SQL Server database administration.
I'm currently in the middle of building quite a large CMS using ASP.NET and MSSQL2K and have began to question if the amount of queries I am using for one page to be built is too many?
For one page (View Forum) I am getting all of the templates and checking access then pulling a list of threads, getting the first and last posts, then user info for the first and last posts... anyway to view 10 threads on the page the number of queries comes to about 54 and the page takes 0.064 seconds to load.
My question is, Is this to many queries to be running for a single page load? All queries are using Stored Procedures.
I was wondering if anyone can explain the positives and negatives of using a single stored procedure that contains one or more distinct queries. I know there are problems with dynamic SQL but I am not proficient enough to know whether this falls under that umbrella.
For clarification, what I am referring to is this: In a single stored procedure, I have a parameter called Query_ID that is used to identify which query in the sproc that I want to execute. Then from my ASP page, I simply pass the appropriate value for Query_ID. So:
IF @QUERY_ID = 1 BEGIN SELECT [whatever] FROM [tbl1] WHERE [conditions] GROUP BY [something] ORDER BY [somethingelse] END ELSE IF @QUERY_ID = 2 BEGIN SELECT [whatever] FROM [tbl2] WHERE [conditions] GROUP BY [something] ORDER BY [somethingelse] END END
I have a small problem. I've gone through the SSIS wizard and created a dtsx file which imports data from an access file into a SQL Server 2005 database. It has been set to delete existing rows and enable identity insert.
I then edited the .dtsx package in SQL Server Management Studio and added an environment variable configuration to allow me to change the destination database. In the script which runs the dtsx, here is what I have (it's an x64 system, so hi have to use DTExec):
Description: The configuration environment variable was not found. The envir onment variable was: "InitialCatalog". This occurs when a package specifies an e nvironment variable for a configuration setting but it cannot be found. Check th e configurations collection in the package and verify that the specified environ ment variable is available and valid.
I got the package.connections.etc etc path from originally creating the environment variable as an xml config file, then I could open the config file and see what the path was...
When I want to execute my package as a job in a SQL Server 2005, I get this Message:

The package works fine on the developed server but when I try it out on our integration server it won't go through without these errors. The protection level is set on DontSaveSensitiv and allready I had an error less.
I hope someone can help me, because I can't find anything with google. Thanx!
Hi, I have a sendmail task in my ssis package. In the From field, if i hardcode my from and to address as user@company.com it works fine and mail is sent. But i want to read the from and to values from a database table. SO i defined the package level variables and getting the values into the variables. SO at From if i specify the variable name it gives a compiel time error"the address in th from line is mal formed. it is either missing @ character or not valid". how do i specify teh variable for from address? I feel, may be i can use expression, but i don't know how to do that. Can anyone help me with this?
I am trying to dynamically create the connection to a database within an SSIS package.
the requirement is to allow the user to pass through the database as a variable and that variable will dynamically create the connection string in the connection manager.
Academy details tables, Academy Students table, Academy Student Parents table, Academy class Section Table, Academy Staff table.
I have created the tables and data into the database. And Now I need to prepare a Excel sheet to upload data into the these tables. How to prepare the Xlsx sheet and how to upload into database without using SSIS package.
I have installed MS SQL Server 2005 and Service Pack 2 on a new Windows 32-bit environment. I also installed the 32-bit 10g client (the Administrator option). The tnsnames.ora file is configured properly and I can tnsping to the Oracle database without any issues. I have created a package in Visual Studio and it runs successfully when I execute the job manually. I saved the package to the MS SQL Server and when I log into Management Studio to create a job for this package, I receive the following error:

I have created the package and logged into the server with the same ID to set up the job. And I have set the ProtectionLevel property to "Don't Save Sensitive Data" since I know this has been an issue in the past when I tried automating the job. I've four posts regarding this error message on the MSDN forums that aren't helpful at this moment - I'm hoping that someone will have found a solution since those posts. Any suggestions are welcomed.
Hi everyone,Does exist an easy way to count the actually number of queries executed within a page?I've searched here and in google but found anything...Thanks in advance!
Recently I had an application developer approach me and asked if I could provided him with a list of sprocs by returned row count. We had an issue where the application passed in a number of parameters which attempted to return 200k plus rows of data and the application was timing out. He changed the required parameters in the application and a reasonable number of rows were returned as expected. Short term solution to this one problem.
However there are always timeout issues with this particular application and we got to thinking that maybe other sprocs that were called using parameters would also fail at some point in time because too much data was being returned.
I have a requirement to calculate the % change in the number of orders received today with the number of orders that were received 3 days back. All data is in the same table. There is a received date column.
I have two count(*) queries - one for today and one for 3 days back running separately and getting the results. Is it possible I can get the % change in orders received from 3 days back and today in one query. Also if I want to get the number of orders received today between 12:00am today and current time. How would I modify the query.
We are running SQL Server 2005 Ent Edition with SP2 on a Windows 2003 Ent. Server SP2 with Intel E6600 Dual core CPU and 4GB of RAM. We have an C# application which perform a large number of calculation that run in a loop. The application first load transactions that needs to be updated and then goes to each one of the rows, query another table get some values and update the transaction.
I have set a limit of 2GB of RAM for SQL server and when I run the application, it performs 5 records update (the process described above) per second. After roughly 10,000 records, the application slows down to about 1 record per second. I have tried to examine the activity monitor however I can't find anything that might indicate what's causing this.
I have read that there are some known issues with Hyper-Threaded CPUs however since my CPU is Dual-core, I do not know if the issue applies to those CPUs too and I have no one to disable one core in the bios.
The only thing that I have noticed is that if I change the Max Degree of Parallelism when the server slows down (I.e. From 0 to 1 and then back to 0), the server speeds up for another 10,000 records update and then slows down. Does anyone has an idea of what's causing it? What does the property change do that make the server speed up again?
If there is no solution for this problem, does anyone know if there is a stored procedure or anything else than can be used programmatically to speed up the server when it slows down? (This is not the optimal solution however I will use it as a workaround)
Table structure is Column1 - Column2 - column3 - column4. E.g. 0-134-00-99, thus the number is 013400 to 013499. consider the following scenario: 0-1803-0000-9999. User enters a number as 018030015* --> * means any number starting with this and contained in the range. Hence the above range should be returned. i.e. (0-1803-0000-9999). The issue is to do this search, i will have to check all 1000 NUMBERS because using 'LIKE' will only search for all numbers starting with 018030015. (SELECT * FROM table1 WHERE Column1+Column2+Column3 LIKE '018030015%') this query won't return the row 0-1803-0000-9999 If i write a cursor to check for 1000 such numbers, i can get the result, but is there a better solution?
Hi, I have a table in SQL Server 2005 which has [Id] and [Name] as its columns. I also have a Oracle database which has a similar table.
What I want to do is as follows: In a SSIS package, I want to pick up details from SQL Server and update the Oracle table. And then should be done without using a linked server connection.
Can someone guide me as to how I can specify a update statement in the destination dataflow.
I need to convert an access 2000 database to access 2013 and then load the data into a sql server 2012 database. Thus any urls (links) that will show me how to accomplish the following in an SSIS package:
1. Convert an access 2000 database to access 2013 database? 2. Load the converted Access 2013 database into sql server 2012?
And i want to use SSIS package dynamically load data from database into three separate flat file, each table into each file.
I know i got to use for each loop task ADO.Net schema row set enumerator, with OLEDB connection manager, select table name or view name variable from access mode list, but the problem comes, as table name is dynamic then flat file connection is also dynamic, i am using visual studio 2013...
I am trying to copy a database from our company's external SQL Server(production) to our local SQL Server(development). The Copy Database wizard fails on the step "Execute SQL Server Agent Job". Following is the error in the log file.. Please advise
InnerException-->An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. I wrote a Scalar UDF in SQL2005 that returns an integer. I want to be able to display this integer in a ASP.Net 2.0 web page. I typically use a DAL for all data so I added an ObjectDataSource as a Qeury that contains only the UDF. How do I easily display the value in a Label Control or? I have tried to use a Repeater with a label, a Formview with a Label, all to no avail. Any suggestions?
