How To Insert All The Values From A Listbox Into The Database?

I want that the user can chose several options from one ‘listbox’, and to do this, I have created two ‘listbox’, in the first one there are the options to select, and the second one is empty. Then, in order to select the options I want the user have select one or more options from the first ‘listbox’ and then click in a link to pass the options selected to the second ‘listbox’. Thus, the valid options selected will be the text and values in the second ‘listbox’. I have seen this system in some websites, and I think it is very clear.
Well, my question is, Is it possible to insert into the database all the values from a ‘listbox’ control? In my case from the second ‘listbox’ with all the values passed from the first one? If yes, in my database table I have to create one column (field) for every possible selected option?

Hi, im a newbie. using VB.net / visual studio 2005 and SQL express
I have pasted my page code below
Basically i have a lisbox which is bound to an sqldatasource. It allows the user to select multiple names. I then have another datasource which when the page is submitted it posts various values from different fields into my db. The insert works fine.My problem is that the multiple selection wont allow me to insert into my db, it just captures the first value.I used this sub below to prove that when i click a button on my page it takes all my selected choices and puts them inside a text box, this works i can see them all. Hi,
I have SQL database 2000 which has one table Sheet1, I retrieved the columns in the ListBox, then chosed some of them and moved it to ListBox2.
The past scenario worked great, and I checked the moved values, it was succesfully moved, but when I tried to copy the values in ArrayList to do a select statement it didn't worked at all.

I have seen some information on this but have not understood fully the answers. I am fairly new to this and have spent the afternoon trying to work on this and although I have leant some really cool things I am no nearer. How do I get selected values from a LIstbox into a SQL statement using the IN command

It is really the first bit of the WHERE clause I am interested in. The sql statement works if I either type in the actual values IN( 100, 101,102) or if I select only one value in the list box. If I select two then the sql statement does not work.

Hi,
I have an ASP.NET form that stores it's data in MSDE but I just added a multi-select ListBox to the form and I'm having a hard time coming up with a way of writing that data to the database. Should I write the values into a column on the same table where I store the rest of the data from the form (values separated by a comma) or shouild I create another table (one to many) and store the data there. I like the second option, but I'm not sure how to loop through each value and write it to the database table.
I grab the values for the selection as follow:

Ok what i am looking to do i cannot figure out.
What i want to do is have a simple script that when a user logs onto the website (via windows auth) to get there username somehow llike with
Request.ServerVariables("LOGON_USER")
that should display there username either "domain/name" or "username"
and then insert that into the UserLogs Table under my database with the date with the GETDATE() command..
But when i do this i cannot get the page to auto submit the values. Actually i cannot get anything to write to the DB unless i am doing it under the query builder.
Here is my Query that i was using.

Hello everyone. I am using C#, and posted this in the C# forum, but was told to try here, as for some reason I just can't get this to work. Everyone was very helpful, but for some reason I keep getting a message that a value is not being given for one or more required parameters. This doesn't make any sense though, as I am specifying a value for all parameters...
Basically, I have a listBox that has several items in it. I want to update the database for each item that appears in the listBox. I can't seem to get this to work though, no matter what I try, and it is driving me nuts... lol

Hello, my problem is that I have 2 textboxes and when the user writes somthing and clicks the submit button I want these values to be stored in a database table. I have a function that updates a table in sql server
If a field is left blank I want the database field set to Null. I use:sqlCmd.Parameter.Add("@somefield, someintvalue) to pass all my values to the database.
if someintvalue is null I want to set @somefield to dbnull
How can I do this? I get errors if I submit a null integer when there is a foreign key constraint. What is the best way to handle this? should I just make all parameters objects? so that I can set them to DBNull.Value?
Also on a side note, when you are populating fields from a datatable, is there a better way to set the values (i.e. of a textbox) than cheking for DBNull before assigning?

I am creating a website.
i have completed the GUI. i have labels on the left side of the form and a text box for each of those labels on the right side of the form. i have the two dropdown boxes that you have helped me create and bind. now im stuck on how to start the code to get this all working. i know what i need it to do (pseudocode) but dont know how to write the code for it. these books and online sources, really dont say where to put things, they just give examples, not stating where to place it.
I am using a SQL database called Manufacturers
i would like to insert or update, but not delete records wtih this tool
pixelsyndicate mentioned using the GUI to do the code for me, would love to know how to do this.
any help would be awesome, or any good beginner resources would help too

Hi, it is few days I posted here my question, but received no answer. Maybe the problem is just my problem, maybe I put my question some strange way. OK, I try to put it again, more simply. I have few textboxes, their values I need to transport to database. I set SqlDataSource, parameters... and used SqlDataSource.Insert() method. I got NULL values in the database's record. So I tried find problem by using Microsoft's sample code from address http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.web.ui.webcontrols.sqldatasource.insert.aspx. After some changes I tried that code and everything went well, data were put into database. Next step was to separate code beside and structure of page to two separate files followed by new test. Good again, data were delivered to database. Next step: to use MasterPage, very simple, just with one ContentPlaceHolder. After this step the program stoped to deliver data to database and delivers only NULLs to new record. It is exactly the same problem which I have found in my application. I compared html code of two generated pages - with maserPage and without. table2 is intially populated (basically this will serve as historical table for view); temptable and table2 will are similar except that table2 has two extra columns which are insertdt and updatedt
process:
1. get data from an existing view and insert in temptable
2. truncate/delete contents of table1
3. insert data in table1 by comparing temptable vs table2 (values that exists in temptable but not in table2 will be inserted)
4. insert data in table2 which are not yet present (comparing ID in t2 and temptable)
5. UPDATE table2 whose field/column VALUE is not equal with temptable. (meaning UNMATCHED VALUE)
* for #5 if a value from table2 (historical table) has changed compared to temptable (new result of view) this must be updated as well as the updateddt field value.

Is there a way to avoid entering column names in the excel template for me to create an excel file froma dynamic excel using openrowset.
I have teh following code but it works fien when column names are given ahead of time.
If I remove the column names from the template and just to Select * from the table and Select * from sheet1 then it tells me that column names donot match.

Hi All,
I receive the input file with some 100 columns and some 20k+ rows and I want to check the incoming input row is existed in the database or not based on 2 key columns. If the row is existed then I need to check all the columns (nearly 100 columns) values in input and the database are equal or not. If both are equal I need to treat them seperately if not there is a seperate logic. How Can I do that check for each row and for each column?
Basically the algorithm is like this, if the input file row is not existed in the database then treat that as new row else if the input row is existed in the database then check all the columns are equal or not. If all the columns are equal then treat that as existing row and do nothing else if some columns are not equal then treat this row seperately.
I found some thing to achieve the above thing.
1. Take the input row and check in the database.
2. If the row is not found in the database then treat it as new row.
3. If row is found in the database then
a) Take the source row and prepare a concatenated string for all the columns
b) Take the database row and prepare a concatenated string for all the columns
c) Find out the hash code for the 2 strings and then compare hash codes for equal.
The disadvantage of this is running a loop 2*m*n times where m is the number of rows and n is the number of columns. It should be done 2 times for input file row and database row.
Can anybody suggest a good method to do this?
What does the function "GetHashCode" for InputBuffer in method "Public Overrides Sub Input0_ProcessInputRow(ByVal Row As Input0Buffer)" will do?
Will it generates hash code based on all the columns values?
Pls clarify.

Hi everyone, having some problems
Basically, using ASP.NET 2.0 and here is my problem,
Get data from table
Put into array
Split where there is a +
remove +'s
assign to listbox to give a list of everything in that table
The + split the courses, so in my Order table I have A + B + C etc and I want all of the different options in a list box (note different records have different entries it isn't always a b c)
I am testing my code, here is what I got
