How To Install SQL Server Developer From VS.Net Enterprise Architect 2002
Jul 4, 2004
How can I install SQL Server 2000 Developer edition from the CD's of Visual Studio.Net 2000 Enterprise Architect ?
When I install VS.Net Enterprise Architect I do not see any install option for SQL Server 2000 Developer, though the MSDE option does appear during the installation. However, I was not interested in MSDE.

I am having some problems in the process of moving an Access back-endto an SQL Server back-end. Everything works but there are severeproblems of response times when the number of users builds up.At present we are using the Developer version before committing to theEnterprise version. BOL (quoted below) seems to suggest that, apartfrom licensing, they are the same.Can anyone please confirm that this is so. If not, what is thedifference?I may explain in another topic the problems I am facing but I firstwish to be clear on this particular question.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Quote from BOLMicrosoft® SQL Server™ 2000 is available in these editions:SQL Server 2000 Enterprise EditionUsed as a production database server. Supports all features availablein SQL Server 2000, and scales to the performance levels required tosupport the largest Web sites and enterprise online transactionprocessing (OLTP) and data warehousing systems.SQL Server 2000 Developer EditionUsed by programmers developing applications that use SQL Server 2000 astheir data store. Although the Developer Edition supports all thefeatures of the Enterprise Edition that allow developers to write andtest applications that can use the features, the Developer Edition islicensed for use only as a development and test system, not aproduction server.

I am currently using SQL Server Enterprise Evaluation which runs out after 6months. When this happens or even sooner I plan to install SQL Server Developer.
My questions is can I copy all the things I develop (databases, cubes, reports,) from enterprise evaluation & import/load them into SQL Developer with no problems? Will everything integrate? Is there any implications?

I successfully installed .NET framework v 3.5 and VWD 2008 on a new Vista laptop. When I want to add a Sql Server database to a website, errors tell me to install SS 2005 Express. MSDN SS 2005 Express download tells me I MUST first install .NET framework v 2.0 before SS 2005. When I try to install framework v 2.0, I'm sent to v. 3.5 and no way to download SS 2005.
How does one install a express sql server to run with Visual Web Developer 2008?

I'm trying to install SQL Server 2005 (Developer edition) on my Vista Ultimate machine.
I've got the IIS 7 features turned on; I've got the SP2 patch CD; and I've run every install as administrator. I've run the SQL Server setup before and after the SP2 patch
I'm doing a named instance using the built-in system account with windows authentication mode.
Is there any COMPLETE guide as to how to work through all these installation problems?
I've gotten same results after about six attempts.
These always install:
SQL Setup Support Files
SQL Native Client
SQL VSS Writer
SQL Server Backward Compatibility Files
SQLXML4
SQL Server Books Online
These always fail:
OCW11
SQL Server Database Services
Analysis Services
Reporting Services
Notification Services
Integration Services
Workstation Components; Books Online

I'm at a complete loss, but I am sure the error is something about the configuration with this computer. I have fond a couple of posts on other web sites where people have similar errors, but no feedback on the error or even ideas on what to look at.
ANY recommendations would be helpful!!
Thank you,

I am working on a automated install (simulated with a batch file first) and I am having issues when I trying to install SQL2005dev, then SP1 and then the hotfixes. The main issue is SP1 returns to the batch file while it is still running.
Does anyone know how to silently run SP1 and make it wait until after it is installed to continue (on to the hotfixes)?
Example batch file:

P.S. Those aren't really smileys, they're actually semicolon Ds but I can't seem to get rid of the cartoon translation, even after checking the "This post contains a code sample" checkbox.

I have tried several times to install
SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition (most recently from MSDN Disk
3097.1) I have tried to complete an uninstall before each
attempt.
I do get the warning about Minimum Hardware Requirement, but can find
nothing in the detail requirements to exclude my PCs configuration.
I have installed: IIS and .NET Framework 2.0
I have also used ..aspnet_regiis -r to register ASP.NET
I am, successfully, running Visual Studio 2005.
Why does the installation process stop there and what can I do next?

I have installed Visual Studio 2005 Prof Edition on a Vista machine and SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on a Windows 2000 server. They will be used as a development environment for us. As we need to management the SQL Server 2005, we would like to install the 2005 Developer SSMS on the Vista machine such that we can manage the SQL Server 2005 developer instance installed on that Win2k machine. However, the system does not allow us to do it. We have the express edition autoamtically installed while we installed the Vistual Studio. Is there any workaround that i can still install the 2005 developer SSMS without uninstall the sql server 2005 Xpress version? Or, I have to uninstall the Xpress version before i can install the 2005 developer's SSMS? Please help!

I have function that returns a table of information about properties. Thedata comes from three different tables -- addresses (called PropertyID),property characteristics, and events concerning those properties (sales,appraisals, etc.), plus a table that maps one representation of propertytypes into another. The records are selected on the basis of location(longitude & latitude), property type, event type, and a range ofevent dates (upper and lower date specified). There are tens of millionsof records of all types, and almost any location, property type, event typeand date range will yield records.The heart of it is a cursor that selects records from joins on this basis:SELECT <a bunch of fields>FROM Property dJOIN PropTypeMap ptm ON ptm.PropertyTypeID = d.PropertyTypeIDJOIN PropertyID a ON a.PropID = d.PropIDJOIN Event e1 ON e1.PropID = d.PropIDLEFT OUTER JOIN Event e2 ON e2.PropID = d.PropIDWHEREd.LastSaleDate >= @LoDateAND a.GeoLongitude BETWEEN @LowerLon AND @UpperLonAND a.GeoLatitude BETWEEN @LowerLat AND @UpperLatAND ptm.PropCategory = @PropTypeAND a.GeoMatch <= @MinGeoQualityAND e1.EventTypeID = @SaleEventTypeAND e1.TransactionType = 'R'AND e1.EventDt BETWEEN @LoDate AND @HiDateAND e1.EventAmt > 0AND e2.EventTypeID = @AssessmentEventTypeAND e2.EventDt <= @HiDateAND e2.EventAmt > 0Each property has one PropertyID record, one Property record, and N Eventrecords (average perhaps five).What is the mystery? If @HiDate, which is the upper end of the time window,is 2002-11-08 or earlier, nothing is returned. If it's 2002-11-09 or later,oodles of records are found. I get the same query plan for either one, andbased on the content of the data, they should return almost exactly the sameset of records -- exactly the same set in almost all cases, in fact.Is 2002-11-08/09 some sort of magic dividing point? I have replicated thison the large database and on a smaller test version on another SQL Server.(SQL Server 2000) I dropped the indexes and tried it, andthe same thing happened. This is driving me crazy!

I am trying to install the SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, but on the components selection page, the only options I can check are Sample Book/Docs and Tools(Business Intelligence Studio, SQL Management Studio).
Even on the advanced page, those are the only options. Everything runs with no problem, except the SQL server instance.
I checked on the SQL Server Configuration Manager, and it does not show any SQL instances installed.
I tried adding a new instance using the add/remove>change for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 by selecting the setup.exe file in the Enterprise CD, but the it has the same options. If I select the setup.exe file from my Workgroup Edition CD, the option for adding new instances works.
What should I Do?
Cant I add SQL server instances using the Enterprise Edition? I was unable to install even the first instance.
The computer I am using meets all requirements and no SQL versions have been installed yet.
Thanks for the help.

I have Vista Enterprise 64-bit. I have followed the 3 links in this Answered Link.
http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?siteid=1&PostID=2756202
I can turn on the IIS bits under
Web Management Tools and
Windows Authentication
But when I try to turn on the World Wide Web Services stuff I get
"An error has occurred. Not all of the features were successfully changed"
and when I click OK it has not turned on any of the fetures under World Wide Web Services.
Any clues?

I am wondering if it is possible to change from SQL Server Enterprise Evaluation Version to Developer Version. The reason is because the Enterprise Evaluation version expires after 180 days. So if I create reports and cubes in Enterprise Evaluation I can import them into Developer Edition right? Should I remove the Enterprise Evaluation version after 180 days or leave it then install Developer Edition?

We have an existing installation of SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition (64bit) that we are ready to go live with and would like to change the edition to Enterprise Edition (64bit). We have purchased all the appropriate licenses. We would like to avoid UN-installing the Developer Edition and RE-installing the Enterprise Edition. There must be some way to change a registry key, provide your serial number via a command line utility or re-run the setup with the license key provided and direct it to just change the edition from Developer to Enterprise and not change any of the other settings like service account, sa account, collation, etc. Any help is most appreciated.
Thank you,
Matt

Failed to install SQL Server 2005 Enterprise (x86) on one server
I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 Enterprise on one of my test server. I am sure I entered the correct domain user name and password and the account is admin. I€™ve tried several times but I got this error instantly:
The SQL Server service failed to start. For more information, see the SQL Server Books Online topics, "How to: View SQL Server 2005 Setup Log Files" and "Starting SQL Server Manually."
Some of the other component could be installed properly. The system was just rebuilt with only VSTS 2005 installed.
Here is the part of the log

Hi,
We have 2005 Standard Edition in our production environment and 2005 Developer Edition in dev. Recently we started using a feature in dev only to realize it was an Enterprise specific feature when we wanted to move it to prod. Is there any way to turn off the enterprise features in developer edition so it behaves just like standard edition?
Thanks
Charlie

I just installed SQl 2005 Developer Edition, and don't see an Enterprise Manager icon. Only Configuration Tool icons were installed.
Is this all SQL 2005 Developer is, or shoudl I be seeing an Enterprise Manager?
Thanks for your response,

We are in the initial stages of preparing for bringing in a DW Architect. What struck me odd was no one asked the DBAs about what we should be looking for in an architect. Should the DBAs be involved in the hiring process e.g. interviewing? I think so. Comments welcome

If I run the same FOR XML query in a Development edition enviornment and a Enterprise Edition environment, the results are different. The query is exactly the same.
Here is the query:
DECLARE @MessageBody XML
DECLARE @AuditTable SYSNAME
DECLARE @SendTrans BIT
DECLARE @SendAudit BIT
DECLARE @RecordCount INT
DECLARE @OperationType CHAR(1)
SET @RecordCount = @@ROWCOUNT
SET @OperationType = 'U'
SET @SendTrans = 1
SET @SendAudit = 1
SET @AuditTable = 'States'
SELECT @MessageBody = (
SELECT * FROM
(
SELECT TOP 10
'INSERTED' AS ActionType, @SendTrans AS SendTrans, @SendAudit AS SendAudit,
COLUMNS_UPDATED() AS ColumnsUpdated, GETDATE() AS AuditDate,
@AuditTable AS AuditTable, 'test' AS UserName, @RecordCount AS RecordCount, *
FROM l_states
)AuditRecord
FOR XML AUTO, ROOT('AuditTable'), BINARY BASE64)
SELECT @MessageBody
In my DEV env (Developer Edition), this result is produced:
<AuditTable>
<AuditRecord ActionType="INSERTED" SendTrans="1" SendAudit="1" AuditDate="2007-06-22T15:43:12.497" AuditTable="States" UserName="test" RecordCount="1" StateAbbreviation="AK" State="Alaska" />
<AuditRecord ActionType="INSERTED" SendTrans="1" SendAudit="1" AuditDate="2007-06-22T15:43:12.497" AuditTable="States" UserName="test" RecordCount="1" StateAbbreviation="AL" State="Alabama" />
</AuditTable>
In my Enterprise Edition evn, this is the result:
<AuditTable>
<AuditRecord ActionType="INSERTED" SendTrans="1" SendAudit="1" AuditDate="2007-06-22T15:44:48.230" AuditTable="States" UserName="test" RecordCount="1">
<l_states StateAbbreviation="AK" State="Alaska" />
<l_states StateAbbreviation="AL" State="Alabama" />
</AuditRecord>
</AuditTable>
Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Is there any one knows how to fix this, please help! This is urgent.
In the configuration checking, there was only one warning message about operation system (this warning should be ignored according to some advice). When coming to the Component checkboxes, there is only one checkboxe checkable at the last item.

Hi all,
I have downloaded Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Evaluation Edition ISO from the following site and burned it onto a DVD.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=6931FA7F-C094-49A2-A050-2D07993566EC&displaylang=en
Prior to this I have installed Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edtion. During setup I have selected all the native client components i.e. Management Studio, Business Intelligense Studio. But after the install I am not able to see them under All Programs-> Microsoft SQL Server 2005. On further searching I have come across this link
http://channel9.msdn.com/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=142941
First of all, there is no sqlrun_tools.msi under setup folder of the dvd. And also when I tried to change component from Add/Remove programs and following the instructions as specified on clicking Change Installed components all that I see are: Connectivity Components and Software Development kit.
Could someone tell me how can I install Management Studio/ Business Intelligence Studio seperately? I don't want to go through the process of re-installation.
