How To Install A Reporting Services Project At A Customer's Site
Mar 22, 2007
Is there anyway to install a Reporting Services Project that doesn't involve either using the Deploy function from Visual Studio or manually via the upload function in Report Manager?
In other words is it possible to build an msi or a set up file that can be used to install Reporting Service projects?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times and I can't get Reporting Services to create the virtual directories in Default Web Site, instead it creates a new web site called Report Server with the virtual directories under that, this Report Server website points to C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerInetPubwwwroot. Any ideas as to why this happens? My Default Web Site is called Default Website from the initial IIS install , I am on XP Pro SP 2 with IIS 5.1.
This is an issue for me since I don't want to have on another site that doesn't have the aspnet mapings.
I am dumbfounded and can't figure out what to do to make it not do that with the default configuration option checked during install. Should I uninstall and reinstall again and not use the default configuration?
Regards,
Chris

Hello. I have a version of SQL Express with Advanced services. I created a report and all seems well in Report Manager on my computer. Now it's time to deploy my report to some customers.
1. Can I create an application in Visual Studios Express to view my report? I've read things online that seem contradictory to me and I'm hoping you can clarify this.
2. On a customer machine, if they have a .net application that can render my report, will they have to install reporting services on their computer or can the .rdl file run independently of reporting services if plugged into a .net viewer component? If it was called from a .net application, then Report Server and Report Manager aren't really needed are they? I have a situation where we don't want to use IIS on customer computers if we don't need to. Since the reports will not be adhoc, we're hoping to avoid needing to install Reporting Services on customer computers.
Thanks!

I am having the most baffling problem with DTS....
I have a set of ActiveX transforms that execute on my customers flat transaction data files, destination a single database table. Since they switched to a new method of generating the flat file using SAS, the DTS package mysteriously will fail at a couple select records. The error is always the same, and turning on error logging in DTS yielded this:
Step 'DTSStep_DTSDataPumpTask_1' failed
Step Error Source: Microsoft Data Transformation Services Flat File Rowset Provider
Step Error Description:Too many columns found in the current row; non-whitespace characters were found after the last defined column's data.
Step Error code: 80043013
Step Error Help File: DTSFFile.hlp
Step Error Help Context ID:0
Step Execution Started: 11/16/2004 6:37:51 PM
Step Execution Completed: 11/16/2004 6:39:39 PM
Total Step Execution Time: 107.415 seconds
Progress count in Step: 515000
The exact same file parses all the way through on my laptop, with the same DTS package. Tests have revealed no strange characters or whitespaces in the data file, not at that record (running a Test... on any of the active x transforms will fail at row 515186 always, until that row is deleted and it fails on some subsequent row - this iteration went on at the customer site until about 5 rows were deleted this month and it finally worked), not at any other records. My database and the customer database are both using the same, default character set.
The only microsoft KB article referencing anything resembling my problem is
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;292588
but this does not hold because I am not specifying fixed width, but rather comma delimited.
If anyone has any ideas about what other environmental variables are coming into play here, please let me know - I'm at the end of my rope. I believe we are both patched up to SQL 2000 SP3. They have an XP client connecting to a 2003 server; I have an XP client/server. Neither machine has the NLS_LANG environment variable set.

I have installed SSRS 2012 Standard Edition in our DR site. We replicate over the reporting server databases over from our Production server via storage replication. It is on a different server than the reporting service. When I configure the SSRS in DR it is still seeing the SSRS from our Production server and tries to make it a scale out deployment which it is obviously not allowed to be because of the edition. Is there something in the database itself I need to change so it doesn't think the production server is still connecting?

Installed SQL Server 2008 with Reporting Services to a Windows Server 2008 box. Tried to open the Report Manager and had no tabs and no Site Settings link - just a blank home page. I am logged onto the server with local administrator rights, so it shouldn't be a permissions issue.
Thinking the installation was bad (IIS was not installed before installing SSRS), I uninstalled and re-installed SSRS after setting up IIS 7 on the server. Still the same issue - just a blank home page in report manager with no ability to add users or assign roles or see anything except the links for "Home", "My Subscriptions", and "Help".

Hi,
I'm having an issue with reporting services installed on a Win2000 machine.
I was able to install RS successfully on the server. Everything worked fine, but when I try to deploy a project, SS BIDS keeps asking for a valid password, no matter if I enter any valid password or not. After that if I try to access reporting service, the web interface says:
€œThe report server has encountered a configuration error. See the report server log files for more information. (rsServerConfigurationError) Get Online Help €?
In order to get it back working I have to go to Reporting Services Configuration Manager and mark €œApply default settings€? in Report Server Virtual Directory and Report Manager Virtual Directory.
It is worth to say that no matter what project I try to deploy, it is always the same behavior, and that no error log is generated either in event viewer or in the reporting services log directory.
Any idea what is happening?
Regards,
Germán.

Can someone assist? I'm using the applciation Project Portfolio Server 2006. Have reporting services setup and when I try to create a custom report this is the error I receive:
The report server cannot process the report. The data source connection information has been deleted. How can I install SQL2005 Reporting Services to a local pc? I have a WindowsXP workstation and want to be able to report from SQL databases, and am having a very hard time understanding what is necessary to get to the Reporting Services. I loaded the SQL2005 cd, but when it got to the Components to Install screen, Reporting Services was grayed out and not able to be selected. The SQL databases are maintained on a separate server apart from my workstation.
MS Access 2000 is loaded on the computer and I know I can make pass-through queries for reporting, but I really would like to move to SQL2005. I just do not know where to go next.
Thanks for any help.

Hi All,
We are having a bit of a disagreement of where to install reporting services within work, and i would like some input.
Basically there are two views.
1. We leave reporting Services running on one of our current servers, and reference it through the report viewer, using http. I think the firewall is setup to do this internally. The websites will then use the control to access the reports.
2. We have reporting services on our external DMZ where all our websites reside.
I have argued for number 1, becuase mainly of memory usage and problems it can cause to servers performance wise.
Anyone else got any ideas?
Cheers, Nick

I am using IIS6 and installed Reporting Services on http://myWebsite in IIS.
This works fine and I can access http://myWebsite/ReportServer and http://myWebsite/Reports
My problem is that I also need Reporting Services on another website in IIS6.
I have a website http://www.myothersite.com which I also need Reporting Services on. I created two virtual directories (Reports,ReportServer) that point to the same directories as which the original Reporting Services site does, but it doesn't work. I get "You are not authorized to view this page message in IE." when I view http://www.myothersite.com/ReportViewer in my browser
Any suggestions?

Hi All,
I am a newbie to SQL 2000 Reporting Services. I have been given a task on installing SQL 2000 Reporting services on our servers. We have one database server (SQL 2000) with SP3a. We have one web server with IIS 5.1 and ASP.NET 1.1 installed.
I plan to install the Report Server database on the SQL 2K DB server; but I want to install the Report Server on the web server with IIS. Is that possible ? If yes can you please describe in detail how can I do it ?
The other question I am having is from where can I download SQL 2000 Reporting Services (DEV edition or ENT edition). Is this something available online ?
Please help, as this is very important for the project given to me.
Thank you all in advance

When I try to install Reporting Services on my Vista x64 machine, the following happens:
In the System Configuration Check, there is a "ASP.Net Version Registration Requirement" warning.
On the following section, Reporting Services is greyed out so cannot be installed.I have found many posts on this matter and all of them suggest going into "Turn Windows Features on / off" and enabling various IIS7 features. However, even though I have ticked every possible IIS7 feature the problem remained.
I have also installed SP2, but again this didn't help when I returned to the original installation.
Can anybody please help?

Help!!
I've installed Sql server 2005 enterprise edition in full onto windows server 2003 as investigating the BI option. All fine except reporting services just fails to connect to the reports server. Im connecting using management studio on the same machine ie local.
charecteristics:
- Currently using the same Domain administrator username and password everywhere as in testing as dont want to be sidetracked by connection issues- has total access across the network.
- http:\servername
eports works fine but httpervername
eportserver does not work
- Reporting services configuration is showing all green ok symbols and that connects fine
- all other components are fine.
- Changed to TCP & named pipes for database in Surface config but no luck (in the features section of this tool clicking in windows integrated security brings up same error
Getting a long piece of HTML code message which can't copy, but the 2 key parts of the error message below seem to be:
1) "Client found response content type of 'text/html; charset=utf-8', but expected 'text/xml'." which is at the top
2) "The file you are attempting to save or retrieve has been blocked from this Web site by the server administrators." in the body
Any ideas as need to fix asap

Hi all,
I have an SBS server that I tried to installed SQL Server 2005 Express edition for some testing/dev work (non-production server here) and although SQL installed, the reporting services component failed with the following.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Machine : RAND
Product : Reporting Services
Error : The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Setting reporting service and share point exclusion path. The error is: Fatal error during installation.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Machine : RAND
Product : Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services
Product Version : 9.1.2047.00
Install : Failed
Log File : C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Setup BootstrapLOGFilesSQLSetup0001_RAND_RS.log
Last Action : InstallFinalize
Error String : The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Setting reporting service and share point exclusion path. The error is: Fatal error during installation.
Error Number : 29528
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Could use some help figuring that out...heh. I am able to shoot the entire log (the SQLSetup0001.RAND.RS.log) but it's like 10MB, and I didn't see a file upload option here. Any help is much appreciated though!

My site crashed, so I had to rebuild the Project Site.
I used the SharePoint products and technologies configuration wizard to disconnect from the server farm (only actually running on the single server).
I then reran SharePoint products and technologies configuration wizard to setup the site.
Configured the Project Service and attached to the existing dB's.
Previously, I used the url http://servername.domain.forest/PWA/default.aspx .
Now when I attempt the use the same URL, I get the following error:
"An unexpected error has occurred"
I have tested this one 3 servers now and I receive the exact same result. Is there a path I should apply to the servers in order to allow fully qualified server names after a reinstall of the system?

I've got an SSIS solution file with project deployment model in VS 2013 and would like to deploy that to SSISDB on different environments. All these days I followed the regular way to create a project in SSISDB and deploy it to that. Now want to find out if i can automate this process and so got some questionsÂ
1. Can we automate the process of creating a project on SSISDB based on our SSIS project name? This will be like when we do a deployment it should check if the project exists or not on SSISDB based on our SSIS project name, if the project exists we just deploy the packages in the project and if the project does not exists in SSISDB it will create that project and deploy the packages.
2. Can we also automate the process of creating environments? In traditional way we manually create the environment variables under environment tab of SSISDB, but can we make that also as part of deployment? Like when we are releasing to Dev server we look if that particular Dev variable exists on that server, if it exists we just update the existing stuff and if it does not exists we just create it.

Hi Guys,
I was struggling with installing reporting services from Sql 2005 dev edition on windows vista. I somehow managed to install the SQLExpress edition for Reporting Services, but now i want to unistall it and install Sql Reporting Services from Sql 2005 Dev edition CD.
When I try to unistall the SQlExpress Reporting Servie instance, the screen which says unistalling components disappears in a couple of secs and when i refresh the list of programs installed under Programs and features, i can still see SQLExpress Reporting Servies, i do not understand why this is happening and probably this is the reason behind not able to see the Reproting Services check box ungreyed when installing SQL 2005 dev edition.
CAN SOMEONE HELP ME ON THIS PLEASE?

Hi All,
Probably a dumb question but our network guy has installed 64 bit Win2003 on one of the servers onto which I'm tasked with running our 32bit SQL Server 2005 server.
The installation goes through without a hitch and I'm able to get the SP2 installed over the top with no problem. I am, however, having trouble when trying to browse into the Reporting Services pages. I simply get a std "Page Not Found" web page. I've gone through the Report Server Configuration to see if I can get things to come up properly and everything appears to be initializing properly but still "no go"...
Can one of you MVP's give me a direction? I know it's relatively few details to get started but I'll provide whatever's necessary to get me pointed in the right direction.
Thanks
