How To Join Tables From Different Databases In SQL Select Statement?

I have a basic sql statement, where I have a usersID, and I want to joing that usersID to another table in another database to get the users first and last names. How do I join across databases... each with a different connection string?
Here's what I want..
Select usersID from tableA in databaseA, and usersFirstName, usersLastName from table B in database B where the usersID from tableA = the usersID in tableb.

i have one database ASPNETDB.MDF created by default when adding a user to my site, and MyData.mds - my database...i want to join the aspnet_Users table with another table created by me (in myData.mds), how can i do that? is hard if i should re-write all the data from myData into the ASPNETDB,i even writed both connectionStrings in the web.config but still with no succes...

My environment:XP Home, VWD, SQLEXPRESS.A purely local setting, no network, no remote servers.
I try to do a JOIN query between tables in the membership ASPNETDB.mdf and one table in a self created 3L_Daten.mdf.
After dragging the tables into the Query Design window and connecting them VWD creates this query (here I added the control declaration):

THIS WORKS, BUT:
As you can see the database 3L_Daten.mdf is inserted with its full path, which is not feasible for deployment reasons.
My question: How can I address both databases purely by their database names ? Both have been created within VWD and lie under App_Data.
(I tried almost everything, I practiced with the SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Express Edition, I tried linked servers, all without success).

Hi,
I want to get the results of a query between 2 tables that exist in the same server but in 2 different databases. I want this query to be executed in a stored procedure (use the reults in a cursor), or if it's possible to be used in an ado dataset or a simple dataset in Delphi. Can this be done also if the two datases (MSSQL) exist in different servers??
Can anyone show an example of how to accomplish these tasks??

I have a problem in that a database I have created required splitting into three databases. The records were similar but reporting and maintenance differed enough that splitting the data seemed the best option. So now I have three databases that are needing to be updated from one file and I am not sure how to do that. See the illustration below. The Machine table is a one to many to the Job table, the Job table is a one to one with the Run Data.
The first idea was to query the first database if the record was not found go to the next. If no match was found in any table drop it in a reject bucket. Then what about perhaps a lookup table with starting and ending Job ranges. I would query it to find the correct database then do another query to update the record. But then I could have some type of joining table. Not sure how that would look across databases.
The tables I am updating or adding new records to has the same fields, unique key across all the databases. I could make one big table which gets rid of the query to find the correct database to update but I still would have to connect this back to the Job table which brings me back to a join table or index table.

I am currently having this problem with gridview and detailview. When I drag either onto the page and set my select statement to pick from one table and then update that data through the gridview (lets say), the update works perfectly. My problem is that the table I am pulling data from is mainly foreign keys. So in order to hide the number values of the foreign keys, I select the string value columns from the tables that contain the primary keys. I then use INNER JOIN in my SELECT so that I only get the data that pertains to the user I am looking to list and edit. I run the "test query" and everything I need shows up as I want it. I then go back to the gridview and change the fields which are foreign keys to templates. When I edit the templates I bind the field that contains the string value of the given foreign key to the template. This works great, because now the user will see string representation instead of the ID numbers that coinside with the string value. So I run my webpage and everything show up as I want it to, all the data is correct and I get no errors. I then click edit (as I have checked the "enable editing" box) and the gridview changes to edit mode. I make my changes and then select "update." When the page refreshes, and the gridview returns, the data is not updated and the original data is shown. I am sorry for so much typing, but I want to be as clear as possible with what I am doing. The only thing I can see being the issue is that when I setup my SELECT and FROM to contain fields from multiple tables, the UPDATE then does not work. When I remove all of my JOIN's and go back to foreign keys and one table the update works again. If I run the test query for the update while setting up my data source the query will update the record in the database. It is when I try to make the update from the gridview that the data is not changed. If anything is not clear please let me know and I will clarify as much as I can. This is my first project using ASP and working with databases so I am completely learning as I go. I took some database courses in college but I have never interacted with them with a web based front end. Hi all. I'm selecting all customers and trying to count alll the orders where at least one item has the itemstatus of "SHIPPED" on their order. Each customer will have only one order. I'm trying to see if I can do this in one query. Is it possible?? Is it something like below?

In my new job I have to administer an existing SQL-database with approx. 50 tables. In this database are no joins :confused: defined between the tables. We use a Visual Basic 6 application to create a GUI and within this VB6 app. there are several SELECT statements to retrieve the required data. In these SELECT statements are all the INNER and OUTER JOINS between the tables defined.
My question: is this a correct way to work with or is it better to create all the JOINs between the tables on the database itself? Or should I create different views and define the JOINs in there? My main concern is the speed to retrieve data and second the required time to administer this database.

If I try to run the code below, and even one of the values in the INNER
JOIN statements is NULL, the DataReader ends up with zero rows.
What I need is to see the results even if one or more of INNER JOIN
statements has a NULL value. For example, if I want info on
asset# 2104, and there's no value in the DriverID field, I need the

My problem is that each table contains additional values like art_amount, art_turnover etc... whereby the first table contains plan values while the second table contains actual values.
My goal is to get plan as well as the actual values in one row, how is that possible? If I put the values into each of the selects I get two rows, which is not the wished output.
Is it possible to join the tables after the union took place?

I have a stored procedure that I have written that manipulates date fields in order to produce certain reports. I would like to add a column in the dataset that will be a join from another table (the table name is Periods).
The structure of the periods table is as follows:

Let's say I have a SQL server 2005 on Windows 2003 server.
On this SQL server 2000 I have two databases.
Let’s say DB1 and DB2. On db1 I have Tbale1 and on DB2 I have Table2.

How do I Query two tables and minus the result to be displayed in a gridview. I will appreciate all the help that I can get in this regard. Find below my two select statement

I am trying to create a view that encapsulates some specific info from many different tables. I have about 30 tables all with exactly the same field names and field types. I want to take 3 of the fields from every table and put them together into one 'VIEW' so I can run more efficient queries. SQL however, doesn't let you 'combine' 2 columns from different tables into one column in the view. (making sense?)
I tried running a 'UNION' but you are specifically NOT allowed to run a union in a create view statement. Anyone have any ideas?

I have four total tables.Table One (Documents)- List of Documents. Each record has two fieldsrelated to this issue. First field (Document_ID) is the ID of thedocument, second field is the ID of the record (Task_ID) it isassociated to in Table Two.Table Two (Activities)- List of activities. Each record has two fieldsrelated to this issue. Each record has two fieldsthat is related to this issue. The first field (Stage_ID) is the ID ofthe stage of an event, the second record is the ID number associated tothe event. This last ID is a known value.20000024 = the Event IDI'm trying to come up with a list of Documents from the first tablethat is associated to an Event in the Fourth table.Query Analyzer shows no errors within the script. It just doesn'treturn any data. Hello,
I am in the progress of designing a new section of my database and was thinking of creating a hole new database instead of just creating tables inside the database. My question is can you JOIN multiple tables in an SQL Statement from multiple databases. Ie, In the Management program I have a database called 'Convention' and another one called 'Services', inside the two databases there are many tables. Can I link say tblRegister from Convention to tblUser in Services?

Dear Readers,Is it possible, like in Access, to link to tables in other SQL databases that are on the same server? I have a query that I originally had in Access that queered from multiply databases. It did this by having those other tables in the other databases linked to the database that had the query.

I'm having trouble with a multi-table JOIN statement with more than one JOIN statement.
For each order, I need to return the following: CarsID, CarModelName, MakeID, OrderDate, ProductName, Total ordered the Car Category.
The carid (primary key) and carmodelname belong to the Cars table.
The makeid and orderdate belong to the OrderDetails table.
The productname and carcategory belong to the Product table.
The number of rows returned should be the same as the number of rows in OrderDetails.

Hello... im having a problem with my query optimization....
I have a query that looks like this:
SELECT * FROM table1
WHERE location_id IN (SELECT location_id from location_table WHERE account_id = 998)
it produces my desired data but it takes 3 minutes to run the query... is there any way to make this faster?... thank you so much...

Hi guys,
I'll appreciate any help with the following problem:
I need to retrieve data from 3 tables. 2 master tables and 1 transaction table.
1. Master table TBLOC contain 2 records :
rcd 1. S01
rcd 2. S02
2. Master table TBCODE contain 5 records:
rcd 1. C1
rcd 2. C2
rcd 3. C3
rcd 4. C4
rcd 5. C5
3. Transaction table TBITEM contain 4 records which link to 2 master table:
rcd 1. S01, C1, CAR
rcd 2. S01, C4, TOY
rcd 3. S01, C5, KEY
rcd 4. S02, C2, CAR
I use Left Join & Right Join to retrieve result below (using non-ASNI method) but it doesn't work.
Right Join method:
SELECT C.LOC, B.CODE, A.ITEM FROM TBITEM A RIGHT JOIN TBCODE B ON A.CODE = B.CODE
RIGHT JOIN TBLOC C ON A.LOC = C.LOC
GROUP BY C.LOC, B.CODE, A.ITEM ORDER BY C.LOC, B.CODE
When I use Non-ASNI method it work:
SELECT C.LOC, B.CODE, A.ITEM FROM TBITEM A, TBCODE B, TBLOC C
WHERE A.CODE =* B.CODE AND A.LOC =* C.LOC
GROUP BY C.LOC, B.CODE, A.ITEM ORDER BY C.LOC, B.CODE
Result:
LOC CODE ITEM
-----------------------------
S01 C1 NULL
S01 C2 NULL
S01 C3 CAR
S01 C4 TOY
S01 C5 KEY
S02 C1 NULL
S02 C2 CAR
