Hi, I am trying to link my ASP project with my SQL server but ASp 2005 is pretty different from the earlier version. I don't even see any Data Adapter. I set all my rights for my SQL server so I believe that all I have left to do now is to link them together. I hope someone can help me.
I am trying to use SQL 2005 express as a datasource for a mailmerge with Word 2000.
I have created a ODBC link successfully. I have enabled all the protocols. When I open the ODBC link, all I see is a ODBC drop down. I cant see or select any database tables?
When I open the dsn I get a dialog caled Header Record Delimiters. I accept the defaults and then I get another Dialog called Mail Merge Recipients with a whole lot of connection info, but no sign of any database tables.
I have just downloaded and installed the SQL Server 2005 Express version, enabled TCIP and Named pipes but when I try to link to the tables with Access 2003 or try to create a database connection I get an error 17 "connection failed - SQL Server does not exist or access is denied".
I am able to open Management Studio Express and see all of the databases, including another SQL Server 2005 server that I have. I am able to Link to my other server but I can't get see my local install.
How can make link to a table stored in an sql express 2005 database in access 2003 ? the classic method doesen't work. i tried to use odbc databases as file type to link, then build a data source using SQL native clint driver, but in the combo for default database i don't have the database created before, only master, msdb, model, tempdb. If i try to use the attach database filename text box i receive an error "the datadase entered is not valid". Any suggestions ?
however I keep getting a page displaying a "Content Not Found" message. Would anyone be able to tell me is this the correct page or should I be downloading this from someplace esle?
Also does the Express edition contain a copy of Enterprise Manager?
i'm trying to set a data source in Access 2000 to link to SQL Server express..I have mixed mode set..what user/password do I put in? I tried sa, but get error server does not exist, or access denied.. thanks!
I have created a linked server on which following query works fine.
EXECUTE ('SELECT TOP 10 * FROM dummyOBJECTS') AT [REMOTE]
but the same statement executed with openquery
select * from openquery([remote],'select top 10 * from dummyObjects') returns following error.
Msg 7356, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 The OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "remote" supplied inconsistent metadata for a column. The column "dummyObjectID" (compile-time ordinal 1) of object "select top 10 * from dummyobjects" was reported to have a "Incomplete schema-error logic." of 0 at compile time and 0 at run time.
I have installed the The Microsoft Report Viewer 2008 Redistributable Package and I add the report viewer component to my toolbox list.
while viewing the report viewer in my solution ...i was getting the error as given below..
Note: InnerException = {"The report definition is not valid. Details: The report definition has an invalid target namespace 'http://schemas.microsoft.com /sqlserver/reporting/2007/01/reportdefinition' which cannot be upgraded."}
I have created an Access2003 project (existing data) that links to external data. First I connected to a SQL Server 2000 database. Success. Then I tried to set up a Transact SQL data connection to a legacy MDW-secured Access97 database. (A third-party VB6 application goes against it, and we don't have the source code, so we cannot upgrade it.)
The Transact SQL link tests OK but I cannot select any of the tables or queries from the list presented. However, with the same credentials, I can use these same objects in Excel 2003.
When setting up the link in Access2003, I specify JET 4.0 OLE DB Provider, I enter the MDW file on the All tab, a username and a password on the Connection tab where I browse to the MDB file, and specify Shared Deny None on the Advanced tab. When I test the connection, it tests OK ("Test connection succeeded"). Yet on the "Select the Database and Table/Cube which contains the data you want" dialog, "(Default)" appears in the grayed-out dropdown. Then, beneath that dropdown, there is a grid with Name and Description columns. The grid contains query names but the grid is not enabled. The list of queries is this table is grayed out. Neither of the scrollbars works.
BUT... if I use the SAME username and password in Excel2003, and specify the same MDW, there is no problem working with these same database objects in the legacy Access97 database. WHAT IS DIFFERENT ABOUT THE WIZARD IN EXCEL THAT ALLOWS IT TO SUCCEED AND THE WIZARD IN ACCESS THAT CAUSES IT TO FAIL HERE? In Excel, the list of available providers says Microsoft Access Driver, not JET 4.0 OLE DB Provider.
When trying to link to an SQL table in Access 2003, the software appears to be malfunctioning.
The sequence of events is File - Get External Data - Link Tables - Files of Type: ODBC Databases().
The Problem: On two of my computers, the select data source window does not pop up, preventing me from linking to any ODBC data source.
Observations: This function has worked normally in the recent past and works on other computers running Access 2003. One difference between the computers working and non-working computers is Norton Antivirus 2006 (recent upgrade).
Has anyone experienced anything like this? What's going on?
Hi, I have two database one on local system and another on web both are in MS SQL 2005 Now I want to link both of them by using Link server but the System procedure ask of oledb I am not understanding what to do. I searched the web but ..... So plz tell me some link or code ........
Hi, I have two database.and i want to transfer datafrom one to another so for that I need Link server. both the database are in SQL 2005 i have altered the store procedure and login but it give connection time out error. will u give me some link to understand and implement the same in my app.
I'm trying to learn some VB programming with the VB 2005 Express Absolute Beginner Series video tutorials (which I think is great) and have come across a problem that I can't solve.
When I follow the instructions in Lesson 9 (Databinding Data to User Interface Controls) my application will display the data from the database correctly and I can edit it (and as long as the debugger is running the data remains changed). However, the changes won't propagate back to the database. I don't get any error messages but after I edit the data, save (with the save button on the BindingNavigator toolbar), and end debugging the data in my database remains unchanged. When I use a MessageBox to show how many rows where edited/updated in the
I get the correct number back. I'm sure the problem is not due to coding errors since I've also tried running the accompanying Lesson 9 project file that can be downloaded from MSDN and the problem persists.
I'm using Windows XP SP2, SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and VB 2005 Express Edition. I've tried installing SQL Server 2005 Express with a number of different settings, including default settings, but it doesn't make any difference.
Would greatly appreciate any feedback on this as I'm keen to resolve this problem so I can get on with the next tutorial lesson.
Hi guys, Please can anyone show me how to connect SQL Server 2005 to ODBC Driver(Novell). The import/export wizard data source has no ODBC option.
My final goal is to extract data from an eDirectory into SQL table. I used Novell Client to create a link to eDirectory; with the ODBC driver as the data Source for the SQL Server to extract data from. Every help will be rewarded with appreciation. Thanks
In SSRS 2005, Is it possible to have a link in one report (i.e. report A) to be directed to report B. Can you show me guidance on where to start please?
HiIm trying to connect Visual Basic Express 2005 to a remote SQL Server Express 2005. I cant find how i can do that in VB.net Express. In Web developer there are no problem to connect to a remote SQL server but i cant find it in VB.net Express. The XP with the SQL server that i want to connect to is on the local network. Greatful for help!
This problem only occurs after deployment, not when debugging. In the table I am having a problem with I have an ID field designated as the primary key with the identity increment set to 1 and the identity seed set to 1. There is no data in the table when deployed. I can add records to the datagridview control but when I try updating the dataset I get this error indicating that the ID field already has a value of 1 present. If I close the application and re-start it, the exception no longer occurrs when I update the dataset. I am including the code to update the tables incase something is wrong there. Any suggestions?
Hi Guys, I created a Product database table using Visual Basic 2005 Express and SQL Server 2005 Express. I have just added a new column [Picture] to the database table, which of course, should store an image or picture of a product. I am writing to kindly ask you guys for help .
i) How do I include image files into this column [Picture]? ii) How do I get this image to display on Visual Basic 2005 Express form, so that when a product is selected the product image is displayed accordingly?
When I installed VS 2005, it installed the default version of SQL Server 2005 Express that ships with Visual Studio 2005 installer media.
How can apply SQL Server 2005 Express SP1 to update this existing instance?
Currently, if I run this query:
SELECT @@version
I get the following:
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.1399.06 (Intel X86) Oct 14 2005 00:33:37 Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Express Edition on Windows NT 5.1 (Build 2600: Service Pack 2)
After applying SP1, I should get 9.00.2047.00.
Should I just go to this link and download & install the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP1:
The first public beta of SQL Server 2005 is available for download. Try the link below and happy coding.http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=DC02CBB3-D688-4663-9103-37C83E044D59&displaylang=en

Hi I'm a newbie at SQL 2005 and I'm trying to create linked tables to our ERP system through ODBC. I can do this in MS Access or vb.net by using the ERP system's ODBC driver, but I am lost when it comes to SQL Server 2005. Thanks for any help
If I define a table-valued function in a SQL Server 2005 database, can I link to it from Access 2003 using ODBC?
I've defined the function successfully, and I can link from Access to tables in the database (so my ODBC link is basically functioning), but I can't see the table-valued function in the Linked Table Manager in Access.
I can define a pass-through query to grab the table, but with a pass-through query I have to provide the ODBC password every time.
I have a sql server 2005 database with Delphi 2006 in the front end and for querrying and reporting we use MS Access 2003 by connecting to this database via ODBC connection. I recently found out that the SQL Server 2005 data connected thus can be edited (updated) from MS Access. I do not want end users to modify/update the SQL Server 2005 data from MS Access while I also want them to have the ability to insert/update/delete rights using the appropriate application interface. For now, I am handling this by creating a user id that is not permitted to update, insert and delete and using the same account in the ODBC. Is there a way in SQL Server 2005 you can control insert/update/delete rights for all users that will be applicable only in the ODBC mode?
I initially created an Access application within Access 2003 which I subsequently migrated to SQLExpress 2005 (Tables only) using Microsoft SQL Migration Assistance for Access 2003 (SSMAA) and continue to use Access 2003 as a front end, this really was easy and worked perfect. Now I added a new table to my SQLExpress DB and need to link to it from my Access application but can not find a way to do so in the same way that the SSMAA does. I need to run the Access 2003 application in share mode from multiple PC in the LAN. If I try linking to the table using an ODBC connection I can only access from the PC where the link was done! Any ideas? THanks in advance.
Hi, I just developed a ASP.NET website with SQL Server 2005 as database. I am having connection crash problem when multiple user click on same link to fetch data from the database. If users click on different links or there is few seconds of time gap between the data access, then it works fine. But the connections crash problem only occurs when 2 or more users click same link at same time. I am using the following kind of Datalayers to access the data from database: public static ContentInformation GetContentForUpdate(int ContentId) { ContentInformation result = new ContentInformation(); ; SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand(); command.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; command.Connection = Connection; command.CommandText = "Content_GetContentForUpdate1"; SqlParameter parameter = new SqlParameter("@ContentId", SqlDbType.Int); parameter.Direction = ParameterDirection.Input; parameter.Value = ContentId; command.Parameters.Add(parameter); try { command.Connection.Open(); SqlDataReader reader = command.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior.SingleRow);
if (reader.Read()) { // read the data } reader.Close(); } catch (SqlException ex) { Trace.TraceError(ex.Message); throw ex; } finally { command.Connection.Close(); } return result; } I would be really grateful if someone can help me out with this problem. Waiting for the soonest reply. Thanks.
