SQL server 6.5 stopped responding. The last error messages in the SQL Server Error Log / NT Event log suggested that I increase the Open Objects / Open Databases values. I rebooted the server, increase the configuration values, and rebooted the server again for the new configuration to take affect. I suspect that the front-end application does not release the objects properly when it should; therefore increasing Open Objects / Databases configuration values will only be a temporary fix until they reach the new maximum in some time. However to prove that I need to be able to determine how many open objects / databases are on the server at a point of time. Is there a procedure or a method to determine how many open objects / dtabases are on server?
Any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Sometimes, when a try to list tables or view (or access Management, etc) Enterprise Manager hungs up. Using SELECT * FROM SYSOBECTS also freezes the process. But the SQLServer is operational for data updates and retrieves.
Hello everybody. When I start to test SQL 2008 Febuary CTP I detect that sume of new options work incorrectly. This is description of this bug from Microsoft Connect:"I don`t know, may be somebody detect this issue too. Sorry If I create duplicate. I start SQL Server Managment Studio & click new query. After that I try to create simple query like this Uses Master Select "column name" from "table". I was surprised because when start write column name I saw the pop-up objects list. But this was very strange list, because I didn`t find necessary columns. This list show only "common" objects(such as database nemes, functions & ect). I think that such list(after first select) should show only children objects(columns, keys, triggers, indexes & ect.), after that is you write "from" such list should show only parents objects (Such as table name, database name & ect). PS. Sorry for my english." After that(today) I get the answer from MS SQL Team "Hi,
Your observation is correct. Selection list (column names) can suggests correct candidates once user specifies FROM clause.
Regrads, Eric Kang SQL Server Program Manager" & bug was closed as "By Design". Then I reopen this bug with such comments "
But It`s lokks very strange. If I want to select column name from the list I should: 1. write SELECT 2. Press Space 2. Write FROM "Table name" 3. Returt to free space after SELECT 4. Start Write "Column name". 5. Choose the necessary Column name from the list. There are too much for such simple operation. Posted by stanisluv on 3/19/2008 at 11:45 AM
Too much steps." Sorry I make a typo. I mean: "looks". If anybody else argee with me please validate & vote the feedback. This is the link for it: https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=333047
Currently I must manually complete the following commands to set a new valuefor the "open objects" and "open indexes". I need a way script this processin a batch file.COMMANDS RAN: This is nothing to script, these commands obtain the currentvalues for open objects and open indexes.isql -Usa -Pmanager -SCOP1_DSexecute sp_countmetadata "open objects"execute sp_countmetadata "open indexes"goRESULTS: below are the results, there are 5124 user objects and 2122 userindexes. I need a way to be able to multiple these numbers by a set valueand then use the new value and reset the user objects and user indexes. Thequestion is how do I isolate the results for each result so I can run thecalculations below. Here is the calculation I need:current user objects * 1.05 = new valuecurrent user indexes * 1.1 = new valueThere are 5124 user objects in all database(s), requiring 6985 Kbytes ofmemory.The 'open objects' configuration parameter is currently set to 500.(return status = 0)There are 2122 user indexes in all database(s), requiring 5902 Kbytes ofmemory.The 'open indexes' configuration parameter is currently set to 5000.(return status = 0)SETTING THE NEW VALUES: Once I have the new values, I can set the ojects andindexes as seen below.1> execute sp_configure "open objects", 53802> execute sp_configure "open indexes", 23343> go
I have a sql server project where I have added 1 stored procedure (named StoredProcedure1) and 1 class (named MyClass). MyClass has two functions Func1() and Func2(). The stored procedure simply instantiates MyClass and calls Func1().
Func1() creates a SqlConnection object using "context connection=true" - opens the connection and then calls Func2(). Func2() also creates a SqlConnection object using "context connection=true" - and attempts to open the connection. However when attempting to the Open() call inside Func2(), the code just exits. What gives? The code is pasted below, thanks!
*******THE STORED PROCEDURE************** using System; using System.Data; using System.Data.SqlClient; using System.Data.SqlTypes; using Microsoft.SqlServer.Server; using SqlServerProject1;
public partial class StoredProcedures { [Microsoft.SqlServer.Server.SqlProcedure] public static void StoredProcedure1() { // Put your code here MyClass obj = new MyClass(); obj.Func1(); obj = null; } };
*******THE CLASS "MYCLASS"************** using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Text; using System.Data; using System.Data.SqlClient; using System.Data.SqlTypes; using Microsoft.SqlServer.Server;
public class MyClass { public MyClass() {
}
public void Func1() { using ( SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection("context connection=true") ) { conn.Open();
Func2(); conn.Close(); } }
public void Func2() { using ( SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection("context connection=true") ) { if ( conn.State != ConnectionState.Open ) conn.Open();
if ( conn.State == ConnectionState.Open ) conn.Close(); } } }
Being new to ASP.NET, I may be asking something that is dead simple, but please bear with me!
How would I go about listing all the tables, stored procedures and views from a SQL database within an aspx page? I understand how to connect and return a dataset etc, but that's about as far as I can get. I want to be able to list all of these objects from a given db - any ideas?
Additionally (this may not be possible) - is there a way I can list all of the objects within a visual studio.net solution, again within an aspx page?
Is there anyway, that I can generate a list of all the objects that a given user has access to (including type of access whether select or update etc), by running a SQL command? One of our databases has nearly 40,000 tables (no kidding!) I can always find this out by manually looking into the roles etc on the enterprise manager, but I need a way to find out using a T-SQL query..Thanks for any help!
I was wondering if it is possible to use a generic list object to use as the datasource/data for a report? Right now we use these business objects to display information on our website and would be great it we could re-use those objects and create reports based on them. We are doing some calculations etc in the business layer to build these objects, so if we could re-use, that would be best. Thanks!
passing serialised objects to a stored procedure for the purpose of data inserts. I see this as being a way to handle multiple row inserts efficiently.
However, in my limited use of XML data I am not so sure how to link the data when I have a dependency on another "object" within the serialised XML.
Below is a code snippet showing what I have so far.
The first insert statement works fine - but how to retrieve the identifier created by the DB - I want to use an SQL statement that finds the record in the table based on the XML representation (of the PluginInfo), allowing me to insert the ConfigurationInfo with the correct reference to the PluginInfo
DECLARE @Config NVARCHAR(MAX) DECLARE @Handle AS INT DECLARE @TransactionCount AS INT SELECT @Config = ' <ConfigurationDirectory > <ConfigurationInfo groupKey="Notifications" sectionKey="App.Customization.PluginInfo"
please help newbieI need to create a lot of objects the same type (let's say: schemas)I wish to use paramerized block in loop to do so.- how to put names of my objects to such control-flow?belss you for help
I get the below error only when my IDE open. It connects well when it is found closed. [SqlException (0x80131904): Cannot open user default database. Login failed.Login failed for user 'JPASPNET'.] I could solve this by giving the logged in windows user to impersonate under IIS window > WEBSITE > ASP.NET tab > EDIT CONFIG > APPLICATION tab But I wish someone could give me the proper solution. I almost tried all from giving ASPNET user as a administrator to configuring the same in Express management tool. Environment: XP pro, VWD and SQL Express
I got an approach like that: 1) Read something from DB - check the value, if true stop if false go on2) Read the second Value (another SQL Statement) - check the value etc. Now I could open the connection at 1) and if I have to go to 2) I leave the connection open and use the same connection at 2). Is it ok to do that? The other scenario would be opening a connection at 1), immediately close it after I read the value and open a new connection at 2). Thanks for the input!
Post installation of SQL Server 2014 Express edition, I am able to connect to the Database Instance.
But while opening a new query window in SSMS or opening a table getting the error:
Package 'RadLangSvc.Package, RadLangSvc, Version 12.0.0.0, Culture=Neutral, Public Token=89845dcd8080cc91' failed to load
Object reference not set to an instance of an object. (mscorlib)..Have already tried installing the componentsDACProjectSystemSetup_enu.msi, TSql LanguageService_enu.msi, DACFramework_enu.msi from path VS 2010 WCU DAC.
We are trying to create some alerts in our SQL Server 2014 BI edition.Issue is that, after I chose "Type" as "SQL Server performance condition alert" nothing is listed in the "Object" list box.SQL Server event alerts are working. Issue is only with "SQL Server performance condition alert".
Hi, I am a Database called "Cache" user and in it and when creating a new table I can create a column of type Object. So basically, I can create an object eg. Address that have the following items StreetNo, StreetName, PCode somewhere in my database; then create a table called eg. Employees that have a column called EmployeeAddress of type Address (as my Address Object). Can this be done in SQL Server!?
Can anyone refer me to good 'recipes' or sources of information on thistopic??I have Visual Studio Tools for Office, which installs SS 2005 Expresslocally to my XP box, and I want to develop in SS 2005, then copy thetables or queries or reports etc. to a SS 2005 Standard server.Thank you, Tom
I was trying to transfer a SQL Server 2000 database to SQL Server 2005 using SQL Server Objects Task. However, The following error message was encountered: "[Transfer SQL Server Objects Task] Error: Execution failed with the following error: "Cannot apply value null to property Login: Value cannot be null..".€œ
I need a script to export all the objects from my DB, I can't use DTS because this server is on another private LAN , so the only thing that i can do is drop a *.sql file on a common sharing server and my other server will execute it from that location.
What do you recommend? I know i can do it from My Enterprise Manager but i need to run it on a schedule time .....
I’m trying to create a DTS Package to copy my sql Server objects to a test Server. The server I’m copying from is UMTS1 and the server I’m copying to is UMTSDEV. The database name is ProgramSpecs and exists on bother servers. My login is assigned to all server roles on both servers. I have created databases on both servers manually so I’m pretty sure I have all the necessary permissions. I’m using the DTS task ‘Copy Sql Server Objects’ to copy sql server objects and have selected “Drop Destination objects first”.
When I try to execute the package I get the following error: Error source: MS SQL DMO Error Description: Invalid OLEVERB Structure [SQL DMO] create file error or UMTS1.ProgramSpecs.LOG
I want to copy a database from one server to another. I'm happy abouthow to do this but also want to copy a number of DTS packages, jobs andalerts that relate to this database. Is there any way that I can copythem or will I need to create them again on the new server.Many ThanksLaurence Breeze
We have just installed SQL and C# Express. We have lots of experience with SQL, but none with C#. With both the SQL and C# apps running; if we create a new table, view etc, we cannot see that new object from C# only the objects that existed when we opened the apps for the first time (each time).
If we close everything and re-open everything from scratch, the new objects show..!?!?
Thank you for any information on this difficult problem.
Is there a way to set up the "Transfer SQL Server objects" task and have it dynamically copy of certain tables/data? I see the TablesList values in the "Objects to copy" section and I'm seeing it can be an expression (which I can assign a variable too), but what value is that string if you have multiple tables?
Our company intends to write fully-managed .net code to replace all objects in SQL Server.
The development environment for SQL Server has only tables, each with an associated Primary Key. No other objects exist *whatsoever* in the database: Stored Procedures, Foreign Keys, Triggers, Functions, Views, Indexes.
Many of our main data tables are 1,000,000+ rows.
All functionality exists in .net.
Has anyone else taken this 100% .net approach? Are there any issues to achieving success? Are there any known pitfalls due to practical issues?
Thanks for any comments, in terms of viability and your own personal experience, you might be able to offer.
We have an instance of sql running on one box. We're going to be making a copy of a database on another server. I've been working on a local copy of the db and I've had to add a few new stored procedures and tables along with some fts catalogs. When we set up the copy on the production server, I figured I'd set up the new version that I've been working on so it has the latest structures in place. However, we then have to pull all the data over from the existing database to the new one. Obviously the new tables won't get any data input from the pull, but aside from creating a dtsx project to pull it all over, is there any other way to do it a little easier and faster? Thanks.
Hi All,I am looking to store a DataSet into a Table in SQL Server 2005, or any object for that matter. I cannot find any code to perform. Can anyone help?Many Thanks,Peppa.
