How To Manage The Version Of Tables,View, And So On

Jan 12, 2004

Hi.
I am managing the SQL script files for constructing tables, views, and so on with Visual Source Sefe.

But once I run these scripts with a tool like Query Analyzer
for the database in SQL Server,
I do not know How to get the versions of the scripts which were installed now, with using Enterprise Manager or any tool associated with SQL Server2000.

Please tell me How are you managing and
know which version of scripts have been installed on database in SQL Server.

Sorry for my poor English.

Thanks for reading.

How To Manage IDENTITY In Tables With Large Number Of Rows?

May 23, 2002

Table structure: col1 IDENTITY (seed=1 increment=1) + few other columns (col2...col7) + one text column (col 8)
I have around 50,000,000 rows per day inserted in the table T1. At the end of the day 40,000,000 rows are deleted. I have to keep the records for 12 months and then archive it. Database is 24/7 web serving and there is no down time allowed. IDENTITY column will go out of range (overflow) after less than two years, unless the identity seed is reset to the start value (seed=1, increment=1).
At the end of 12th month data is archived in another table and only last month is kept in the table T1. So table T1 enters new year with data from last month of the previous year. There are few other tables that refer to this table by using there own field with values from T1.IDENTITY column (referential integrity is not enforced). Identity column in T1 is needed as a unique id for some search actions. Performance is an issue therefore bigint data type is used for this identity column rather than decimal.

Another problem I have is how to do table update on one column (1 mil rows to be updated out of 2 mil of rows) with the minimum impact on the users who are querying this table heavily. Not need to mention that it is web app 24/7 no down time.

Thank you in advance.

How To Manage Stored Procedure Transaction Involving Update In Several Tables

Jul 22, 2004

I am running a vba procedure ( adp file ) that executes successively 5 stored procedures . however it happens that the execution breaks at the middle of the code thus giving a situation where only 2 tables among 5 are updated.

Is it any solution to rollback transactions update already done before
the code breaks due to error ?

I was thinking about combining all stored proc on a big one and use
Begin transaction - commit transaction and rollback transaction ... however i am not sure wheter updates involving several tables can be handled on one transaction.

Any advise highly appreciated !

SQL Server 2014 :: How To Systematically Manage Big List Of Queries And Tables

Sep 12, 2015

Suppose someone has to work on a lot of different SQL Server Databases which have got a lot of Tables and Queries / Views inside them.

After a period of time, it becomes very difficult to remember exactly what kind of columns are present within a given Table and View.

Any method by which one can keep a systematic list of all the Tables and Views that are present within a SQL Server Database, along with the columns that are present within them.

Are there any Add-on products or services etc. available in making this type of work systematic?

Currently I add comments to each queries inside SQL Server to remind me of what this query is doing, but this method is not great.

Selecting Tables According To Sql Version Fails At Precompile

Oct 6, 2006

I am pulling info out of MSDB to report on job schedules. As we have a mixture of 2005 and 2000 servers, I am varying my select statement according to the result of
[Code]

Set @Version = SubString(Convert(VarChar(10), (Select ServerProperty('ProductVersion'))),1,1)

[/Code]

I have to vary the tables for each condition. Not a problem,
[Code]
if @Version = 9
begin
Select whatever from table1 join table2
end
Else
begin
Select whatever from table1 join table3
end

Problem is that SQL 2005 is trying to verify the existence of the fields in the tables on compile (it knows that the table, for example, sysjobschedules exists in 2005, but the field "Name" doesn't - although it does in 2000) , even after the if statement checking if the version is 8, and SQL 2000 uses 2 tables whilst 2005 needs 3, and the fields I need are on one table in 2000, but in a different table in 2005.
SQL 2000 is fine with it - it just does it.
Syntax checking is fine.
Just to clarify, here is my code:
[Code]

Declare @Version Char(1), @CurrentDate datetime

Set @CurrentDate = GetDate()

Create Table #TempSchedDetails

( Server VarChar(30)

,CurrentDate VarChar(19)

,JobName VarChar(80)

,ScheduleName VarChar(80)

,Freq_Type Char(1)

,Freq_Interval VarChar(2)

,JobEnabled Bit

,Freq_Subday_Type VarChar(25)

,ScheduleEnabled Bit

,StartTime VarChar(25)

,EndTime VarChar(25)

)

Set @Version = SubString(Convert(VarChar(10), (Select ServerProperty('ProductVersion'))),1,1)

If @Version = '9'

Begin

Insert Into #TempSchedDetails

Select left(@@SERVERNAME,30)

,GetDate()--@CurrentDate

,J.Name

,SS.Name

,SS.Freq_Type

,SS.Freq_Interval

,J.Enabled

,SS.Freq_SubDay_Type

,SS.Enabled

,SS.Active_Start_Time

,SS.Active_End_Time

From msdb..SysJobs J

Left Outer Join msdb..SysJobSchedules JS on J.Job_Id = JS.Job_Id

Join msdb.dbo.SysSchedules SS ON JS.schedule_id = SS.Schedule_Id

Order By J.Name, Active_Start_Time

End

Else

Begin

Insert Into #TempSchedDetails

Select left(@@SERVERNAME,30)

,@CurrentDate

,J.Name

,S.Name

,S.Freq_Type

,S.Freq_Interval

,J.Enabled

,S.Freq_SubDay_Type

,S.Enabled

,S.Active_Start_Time

,S.Active_End_Time

From MSDB..SysJobs J

Left Outer Join MSDB..SysJobSchedules S On J.Job_Id = S.Job_Id

Order by J.name, Active_Start_Time

End
[/Code]
Any ideas as to how to turn the precompile checking off in 2005?

Any Help With Returning The Last Instance Of A Multiple Version Record In Joined Tables?

Sep 28, 2007

We have an archive table which keeps each instance of a sales order that was archived under a "Verion No" field. Each time the sales order is archived it is entered into the archive tables (Sales Header Archive, Sales Line Archive). What I am trying to do is write a query to return all sales orders but only the most recent archived version.

For example this table layout is similar to what I am working with. Version No, Order No and Customer No. are the keys between the Header and Line tables, Customer Name column in the output is from only the Sales Header Archive table

SALES LINE ARCHIVE TABLE
Version No - Order No. - Customer No -----> (other columns)
1 s-5 1000

2 s-5 1000
1 s-6 2000

1 s-7 3000
2 s-7 3000
3 s-7 3000
1 s-8 4000
1 s-9 2000
2 s-9 2000

Here is what I need to output to show:

RESULTS OF JOINED TABLES
Version No - Order No - Customer No - Customer Name ---> (other columns)
2 s-5 1000 Something, Inc.
1 s-6 2000 Acme
3 s-7 3000 Company, LLC
1 s-8 4000 Blah & Associates
2 s-9 2000 Acme

It should return the last Version No of each Sales order.

Does that make sense? It is something probably easy... But, I've spent two days using multiples and multiples of different ways, that just aren't working: I'm about to dropkick my server cabinet...

Can't View Tables In EM!

Sep 25, 2002

I have suddenly lost the ability to view the tables for one of my database via Enterprise Manager. It just sits at an hourglass and never returns!
Alos, if I attempt to link to the tables via MSAccess's ODBC interface, I get a timeout.

I am able to view the table list for other user databases, as well as the system databases.

I am able to view other object list (like SPs) for the database in question, via Enterprise Manager.

I am able to perform a select query against the sysobjects table for the database in question.

Any ideas on why Enterprise Manager, and ODBC links, are hanging while trying to access the tables for one particular user database?

Any help is appreciated.

All other functions appear normal. If I can't figure anything out, or no one has any other ideas, I will try rebooting the server after the users are gone for the day.

Identyfying Which Tables Have Gone Into A View

Oct 6, 2005

I am trying to find the list of tables that make up any particular view in SQL server 2000. The information schema - VIEW_TABLE_USAGE would be the best tool, if only the sysdepends table worked! When I use the schema I get some but not all of my views. Has anyone got a solution, prefably one without cursors, that can identitfy the source tables for a view? I have used the following SQL, but unfortunately it gives too many results: SELECT VIEWS.name AS VIEW_NAME, TABLES.name AS TABLE_NAME, VIEW_SQL.text FROM sysobjects VIEWS INNER JOIN syscomments VIEW_SQL ON VIEWS.id = VIEW_SQL.id INNER JOIN sysobjects TABLES ON VIEW_SQL.text LIKE '%.' + TABLES.name + '%' WHERE (VIEWS.xtype = 'V') AND (TABLES.xtype = 'U') ORDER BY VIEWS.name, TABLES.name Justin

View Of Max Values From Many Tables

May 22, 2007

I have about 14 tables that I am trying to tie together in a view tosee a user's status in our company.Joe User:Email - ActiveADP - ActivePortal - Inactiveetc. We need to track application access across the company, so we havetables for each application that contain user info(username, password(encrypted), start date, end date, changed date) so that wecan track who has what, and when they were given access as well aswhen it was taken away.Every application table has a userID attached to it.What I would like to do is to take the userID field and look for theirapplication access across the company. To do this, i'll have to lookfor the max value in each table because someone could be given access, have it taken away, and be given it again. People move all over theplace here, so we have to be able to track who has what, when, and atwhat building.I started out with trying to left outer join the tables together, butit didn't work. I tried doing something along the lines of:selectesarfAppEmail.emailID,esarfAppEmail.esarfUserID,CASE WHEN esarfAppEmail.endDate IS NULL Then 'Active' else 'Inactive'end as EmailStatus--,

View Between Tables In Different Databases

Jun 25, 2007

We have created a view that selects from tables in two databases. it looks like something like this:

CREATE VIEW myview AS

SELECT col FROM db1.mytab

UNION SELECT col FROM db2.mytab;

Both tables have col as primary key.

When we executes SELECT col FROM myview WHERE col='SOMEVALUE' we receives the correct result but SQL server does not use any indexes. It performs a index scan on both tables. Wh and what can we do about it? The tables contains millions of rows so the performance is terrible.

The following works fine:

SELECT col FROM db1.mytab WHERE col ='SOMEVALUE'

UNION SELECT col FROM db2.mytab WHERE col ='SOMEVALUE';

Qe are running SQL Server 2000 and TRANSACT SQL

Hi:

IF I login as sa, but I only want to view the table list one schema at a time? how do I do that?

I tried :

select table_name from INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES
where table_schema='CIT'....

select table_name from INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES
where table_schema='CIT.DBO'.... give 0 result too.

it give me 0 result, but if I login as CIT, then

'select table_name from INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES' will give 14 tables.

Plus, When I log into Query analyzer, all the tables has dbo. prefix. , why is that?

Thanks a lot

The workgroup is limited to 3 GB of RAM while the standard is unlimited, would that really change the performance if my server has 16Gb or RAM?The price difference is pretty substantial so if could only have to buy the workgroup , it would be better. One more question, regarding the type of licence, my server has 2 processors, could I avoid buying 2 licences and get the Server plus CAL instead. I have received the error message "Package migration from version 8 to version 6 failed".I have developed a SSIS package with Visual Studio 2013 which gives me PackageFormatVersion of 8. I then deploy my package to the ssisdb catalog that is running on a SQL Server 2012, this works fine but when I try to execute the package the error arises…due to SQL Server 2012 has a PackageFormatVersion of 6 and it can’t run something that has a greater version.I haven’t seen any good solution for this but one that would work for me would be to upgrade the Integration Services Server from 2012 to 2014, leaving everything else in 2012 (database, ssms, ssas, ssrs).Would this solve the package format problem? Would I then be able to execute my packages in the ssisdb catalog?

WorkPhone: 123-456-7890
CellPhone:
Pager:   123-456-7890
Fax:

Some students will have no phone number, some will have all 5 most will have one or two. If possible I would like to do a setup like this in my database to keep from having to have null fields for 4 phone numbers that the majority of records won’t have.

View All Tables In Msde Database

Apr 29, 2004

Hi,

I have a application that uses a MSDE database to store information. The application seems to hit into a database corruption problem. Now I would like to view all the datas and tables created in the database. How can I do that using OSQL ?? What are the commands to view all the tables in this database ? Or is there any other better applications to do the viewing ??
Please advise. Thanx a lot !!
