I have a VERY Legitmate use to install sql 4 workgroups on a pc without licensing it. I am making a disk image for MANY pcs to be imaged and load licensing after the imaging is completed.
I have been able to do this with Windows XP Professional, MS Office 2003 and a couple non-Ms programs. The information for MS software even came from their KB, so I know what I am doing is legit. I just can't find any information on doing this for my sql app.
Any suggestions??

Ok, here goes....
What exactly does a standard SQL 2005 license cover? I want to have 3 client stations entering data, one IIS serving up data to an unknown number of persons via a web page. Under the 1 server 5 CAL package would this setup be covered? or will I have to go the processor route? I might add that the user accessing via the web service would be on an intranet behind a firewall.
Thanks in advance!

Hi
I would like to setup about 20 websites (each with database search engines) and would like to use SQL Server 2005. This setup will be run by myself (i.e. single user)
I'm a little confused about which license I need. Do I go for the $23k full version or free license (Express) or something in between??
Could someone please advise. Would be happy to submit further details if required
Many thanks

Hi,
I need to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition 64-bit running on Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition 64-bit. Instead of installing it on every single machine I thought of installing it on one of them, updating it with all the necessary updates, creating a ghost image of the updated system and database and copying the image on all the other machines.
After doing it I however need to update both the system and SQL Server license keys. And there comes my question whether one can change the SQL Server license key after the installation??
Thanks in advance

Currently, i am planning to develop a small system for my client by using SQL database. However, i am not sure is it legal to use SQL Express 2005 in this project? I mean setup the SQL Express 2005 in their server then my application will access this database. Is it legal? or Do i need to purchase any license in order to do that? or I need to purchase a SQL Server 2005 Standard or Enterprise version?

Hi,
I have a customer, Customer who has purchased SQL Server Standard Edition 2005 via Open License Agreement. The product key is not available with the media.
I checked with eOpen team and confirmed that SQL 2005 does not require product key or Volume License Key for installation.
however, according to the VKB article 331355 titled "eOpen License Web Site" under "Exceptions" it is mentioned as:
SQL Server: The product key is distributed with the media. If the customer did not get a product key with the media, refer them to their reseller. The product key is hidden between two shrink-wrapped CDs.
Need your clarification on this,
How should we provide the key to the customer.
Thanks,
Jagdeep

I have finally gotten a setup to work, but I suspect there are improvements I should make to the permissions. Here's the setup:
I am accessing two databases, (aspnetdb and my own database called custom) on a local SQL 2005 server.
In SQL Server Management Studio (SMS) I created logins at the level of the SQL instance for two users ( "NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE" and "viewer"). Then I select each user, and set the properties to access the Server Roles section. There I found each was given the public server role. Now here's where I set the permission to sysadmin. This setting allows my application to work, but I'm sure there are less permissive approaches I should take. However, I just can't seem to find a simple and direct explanation of the procedure to set more appropriate permissions. The "NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE" accesses aspnetdb in order to create users and membership settings. The "viewer" login accesses the database called custom, and it reads and alters this database. The application (which is name viewer) performs these operations using a connection string like this:
Data Source=STORE;Initial Catalog=custom;Persist Security Info=True; User ID=viewer; password=xxxxx;
What is the recommended way to set the minimal permissions for these logins on these databases?

I have an existing VB6 application which uses an Access 2003 backend datafile, however, I would now like to modify this to use an SQL 2005 datafile, but I don't know how to go about this or the implications when the application is installed on another machine.
The code I use for accessing the Access 2003 file is below, I want to convert this code to access an SQL 2005 datafile instead, can anyone give me some pointers on the best way to go about this, or code sample.
Dim rst As ADODB.Recordset
Dim dbs As ADODB.Connection
Set rst = New ADODB.Recordset
Set dbs = New ADODB.Connection
dbs.Open "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=" & _
strNetworkLocation & "MyDB.mdb; JET OLEDBatabase Password=MyPassword"
With rst
.Open "SELECT TOP 1 * FROM tblProject WHERE pjProject = '" & _
lstProject.Text & "'", dbs, adOpenKeyset, adLockOptimistic
strDrawingRef = !pjStartupDrawing
strProject = lstProject.Text
frmMain.OpenFile
.Close
End With
Thank-you in advance for any help you may provide.

I am tearing my hair out with this!!
I have created a DB and up until yesterday I have been using SQL commands to add/remove tables, columns, constraints etc. However today when I attempt to modify the datatype of a column using
alter table Person modify Gender nchar(2)
I get this error
Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 1
Incorrect syntax near 'modify'.
I can still add colums but get the same error if I try to drop them and I can amend the tables in any way via the Design view so I don't think it's permission related.
Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Hi,We currently have a fairly old product, which was originally onlycompatible with SQL 2000.When we upgraded our server to SQL 2005, the client product gave us a"This product is not compatible with this version of SQL server"error.We put the server into SQL 2000 compatability mode, and things worked.Then I tested a Windows Vista workstation client. The error returned.I realise that if we are simply dealing with a client incompatabilitywith Vista, then I'm in the wrong forum, but what I'm hoping is thatsomeone knows anything server side, perhaps where SQL 2000compatability mode becomes ignored for some reason, when the client isrunning Vista.The vendor pretty much no longer exists, and nothing I've been able todo with Vista's compatability modes has been helpful so far.
