Hello All,
I do have one large table, say "emp" having 80 columns. now as the requirement changes, i have to partition the "emp" table to 8 tables.
I want all of my existing data ["emp" table data] to be there in my new tables . i don't want to delete the existing data from "emp" table.
Cal any one please help me out to resolve this issue.

I have a Master and the schema is as follows

I'm trying to find a way to insert data from a TableA on ServerA into TableB on ServerB using SSIS in Visual Studio.
The specification I was given is basically
Insert INTO TableB AS (Select * from TableA WHERE NOT EXISTS on TableB).
I can't use a linked server unfortunately.
I wonder if it possible to move data from tables on a linked server to a "normal database"? What am I doing wrong?
I am trying to move data from 8 different tables that are dependent on each other through foreign key relationship.
Basically they have millions of rows in each table and they have data for the past 5 years. I want to move data for the past 120 days and move it to 8 new tables in the same database. So I created the new tables along with their relationships. Now I need to move in the order (parent table first).
The child table has 50million rows data to move
The intermediate tables have 10 mil 10mil 10mil and 40 mil 50mil and 20 mil rows to move
The parent table has 10 mil rows to move
if I choose to move this data through an SSIS package what is the best way? Or is there a better way to move this data faster?
I will be doing this move only once. After that I have maintenance purge jobs that will cleanup data on a daily basis.

I have an excel file that has multiple sheets and I need to import data from each separate sheet to a separate table using SSIS.
E.g. Sheet A data should go to Table A and Sheet B data should go to Table B and so on. Is it possible to do this with out using script task.
I have just taken over the job of sorting out a rather poorly designed database. It looks like it was 'upsized' from an access database to the SQL server. The SQL server is the 2000 version.
Now I am trying to generate a report of what the students in the database are owing by referencing the Receipt table and then all the available payment methods and allocations. I was wondering if there was anyway to work out data being displayed twice (Let me demonstrate)
Note1: All the tables are linked by a key of ReceiptNo. From what I can see there is a table for every payment type and allocation but no link between the two other then the receipt number.

This is fine but when I do analysis on this it appears as though the student has paid two deposit payments. I was wondering with out querying each table independently from an application if there was a criteria to specify that I only get one deposit result.
So as such say, give me all the payments but I only want one result from the other tables. I though about discrete but that wouldn't work here.

I have 7 source databases and one target database, all using the same structure. The structure is made of 10 tables, with foreign key constraints.
I need to merge the source databases into the target (which won't have any data before that process, but will already have the correct schema), and to keep the relationships between the records.
I know how to iterate over the source databases (with SMO foreach), but I'd like to know if someone can advise the best copy method for that context in SSIS ? (I don't want to keep the primary keys, but I need to keep the relationships...)
Any pointer most welcome!

Okay, after I got everything imported, I found that a few thousand columns had "Shifted" on me. So now I am trying to "Shift them over" to where they need to be.
I did this:
INSERT INTO dbo.TABLENAME (COLUMN_NAME_TO_BE POPULATED)
SELECT COLUM_NAME_OF_INFO_TO_BE_MOVED
FROM dbo.TABLENAME
WHERE MFG = 'MANUFACTURER_NAME' AND PN LIKE '8888888888'
GO
I populated the PN column with 8888888888 to use as a reference point, and the MFG column already was populated with the correct name, so I was using those as my unique reference points.
Other columns that have the same MFG name are correct, so I have to use two unique identifiers to specify the actual data that needs to be moved.
It inserted 'NULL' in the whole table after I ran it in the Query Analyzer. It appeared to disregard the WHERE statement all together
Any ideas on what I am doing wrong here?
Is there a way to move the data from one column to the next one over by specifying other WHERE criterias?

I have a production application that I am building some upgrades usinga second (empty) copy the database. A few of the upgrades includedchanging the datatypes of a few fields from varchar to int(all thevalues in this column are already numbers)I am not trying to move the data from the production database into theblank database using DTS and the fields that had their datatypeschanged are getting dropped by dts.Is there anyway to move this data easily through dts or through anothermethod and not have the fields with the datatype changes get dropped?I have about 60 tables so it is not as simple as just copying andpasting the data..

Another varbinary question.
I am trying to move an image stored in a table varbinary(max) directly from one table to another programmatically.
The rest of the data is just nvarchar(50) so I just use a T-SQL select statement in the code behind and feed all of the date into an SqlDataReader, I do this becuse there is some user interaction when the data is moved, so there may be some new values updated when transfering from one table to another, so once the old and possibly new data is stored in seperate variables then I use a T-SQL insert statement to move all of the data into the other table.
Problem is I am not really sure how to handle the image data(varbinary(max)) to just do a straight up transfer from the one table to another. I get conversion errors when trying to handle the data as a string which makes sense.
Not sure what to put for code examples since I really am stumped with this, but here is what is not working.

I have two tables. They both have an identity field to join them together. One of the tables has a column of data that I want to put in the other table. I need to make sure the data is brought over using the join so it updates that column for the right record.
I am struggling with this. Should I use a update or an insert? I'm leaning toward update but I can't figure out how with the join.

I am able to read the data immediately in the WB partition through a Fact partition query. This is working at this point as desired.
Eventually I want to move the data from the WB partition into Fact Partition. How can I do this, manually and through automation.

I have a report where in I have a combination of matrix ,table data regions.
The problem what I am facing is that the data tables don't remain fixed in their position and they tend to move down.
E.g. table 1 and table 2 are on the same page in design time side by side (right and left)however during the runtime the table1 is pushed down and table2 is at its position .
Now how can I keep them all fixed in their same position. Most of the tables have fixed size rows and some who have high size of rows have been put at the end . What settings we can set?

I am developing a Content management system of sorts and I want it
to be pretty flexible. I have noticed that with web content (News,
Articles, Events, FAQs) that there is a lot of similarity between these
items. They all have the same basic fields:
TitleSynopsisBodyStartDateEndDate
(for News, Articles, FAQs start and end date can be used for content
expiration. For events, they are used for the actual event dates.)
But for some types of content, I will need fields specific to that
type. For instance, I want to have a few custom settings for a "Photo
Gallery" type, like, how many rows/columns of thumbnails to display per
page.

I need to load a database with new data, from an existing parallelsystem, but the database schema has changed and I did not make a script to do the changes. Sure wish I had. So, now I would like to copy the data from the existing parallel system into the new SQL database that has the correct schema. I have built the new database from the existing changed database. Now I would like to know if there is an easy way to clear the data out of all the tables, then copy all the data from the old schema into the new schema's tables.Thanks!Vic

This gave me the desired results for 1 table. I have 4 tables of these lights_2, Lights_3, lights_4 and i would like to display them together and hence match up the reading time so each day has the energy requirements for all for tables with the total. When i try and join tables i get a lot of errors!
Hi there!!! Trying to figure something out, I have searched this forum but no answer to my dilemma.
I have three tables on a database that I have to insert new data and update the old one. The structure of the tables is like this:
Table1
custid int primary key,identity
fname varchar(30)
lname varchar(30)
Table2
fileid int primary key, identity
ssn varchar(11)
custid int foreign key
Table3
statusid int primary key,identity
title varchar(18)
fileid int foreign key
This is very general but that's the idea. Now I receive a text file with the necessary info, I've already parse and break down the file into the correct fields.
Now for my question, how I insert the relevant data onto the tables from this one parsed file? and also how I go about inserting the primary keys from the different tables onto the foreign keys of each tables?
I tried relationships and key indexes, but it just spew a bunch of errors, that I'm investigating.
Any ideas, pointers, tuts, something I'm missing?
BTW I'm using sql 2005 express and VB.net
