Can I Pass A SqlParameterCollection Object Into A SQL Command

Dec 6, 2004

I currently have a connection class that handles all of my database connectivity. What I am trying to do is build a SqlParameterCollection object on one page, then pass that object to my connection class. Is it possible to do this? I am not getting any compilation errors, but I can not get the parameters to be recognized. Here is what I am trying to do:

Page 1:

string sql = null;
conn.strConn = connectionstring;

sql = "sqlstring";

SqlParameterCollection newcollect = null;
newcollect.Add("@Switch",1);

conn.OpenReader(sql, newcollect);
while (conn.DR.Read())
{
read data onto page here...
}
conn.CloseReader();

Page 2 (connection class) :

public void OpenReader(string sql, SqlParameterCollection collect)
{
Conn = new SqlConnection(strConn);
Conn.Open();
Command = new SqlCommand(sql,Conn);

Command.Parameters.Add(collect); <------This is the root of my question
Command.CommandTimeout = 300;
// executes sql and fills data reader with data
DR = Command.ExecuteReader();
}

Can you do this??? And if so, can anyone tell me why the statement will not return any data? The procedure works perfectly, and will work if I use the standard way of passing the parameters to the command statement.

How To Pass The IP Address As A Server Name In Command

Jun 8, 2007

Hi, there,

I am creating a job, which will run a DTS package (SQL 2000), Due to the way it set up, I need to pass the IP address as the server name,

for example, say the IP address is 64.84.50.11

User name is sa

password is webpass

package name is datadump1

I used the command

EXEC master..xp_cmdshell 'dtsrun /S64.84.50.11 /Usa /Pwebpass /Ndatadump1'

when I run it in query analyzer, it returns an error,

Server: Msg 170, Level 15, State 1, Line 1
Line 1: Incorrect syntax near '/'.

Is there anyone know what's wrong with my command?

Thank you very much

Using For Each Loop Container To Pass Parameters To Command Utility

Sep 1, 2006

Hello

I want to use a for each loop container to go through all files listed in a particular folder.
Each of those file names must be passed as a parameter to the relog.exe command utility

example:

Folder C: emp
Files in C: emp: log1.csv, log2.blg, log3.txt

The following lines must be executed:

c:
elog.exe c: emplog1.csv -f SQL -o "SQL:PerfCounters!PerfCounters"
c:
elog.exe c: emplog2.blg -f SQL -o "SQL:PerfCounters!PerfCounters"
c:
elog.exe c: emplog3.txt -f SQL -o "SQL:PerfCounters!PerfCounters"

The relog utility converts the performance counter logs to sql format and pumps it in the database (DSN:PerfCounters)

The idea is that someone drops multiple counter logs in c: emp and you start a SSIS package to pump the data from all the files in the database.

I'm not sure where to start. Do I have to put a Script task inside the For Each loop container en start scripting the commands in Visual Basic.Net or is there a more simpler way to achieve this in SSIS?

Many thanks!

SQLCMD - How Do I Pass Parameter At Dos Command Line To Input File?

Mar 23, 2007

I am not sure if this has been asked before but I couldn't find any thread talking about this.

Let's say we have a parameter in the .sql input file called @Start_Date, how can we pass the value of a particular date, for example, "02-28-2007" to @Start_Date via SQLCMD? is it possible?

I'm trying to skip the need to write a simple windows application...if things can be achieved via dos command line, that will keep everything simple!

thanks! :)

How To Pass Command Line Parms To The Execute Package Task

Oct 2, 2006

I have a ForEachLoop parent pkg that reads thru the file system of dtsx to be executed.

I would like to pass CLI parms to the command itself (dtexec). I'm not looking at passing values to the child pkgs but rather additional command line values such as:

/CONFIGFILE "C:myconfig.dtsConfig.

In my expression builder for the PackageName I added the additional string but during the execution, the reference to my dtsconfig is ignored without any errors and the child pkg runs using the default values provided at design time.

@[User::PackageToRun] + " /CONFIGFILE C:\myconfig.dtsConfig ".

How does one add additional CL values during the runtime for Execute Package Task?

Thanks,

Anatole

Refering To Distinct Values Post(My Other Post)

Oct 22, 2007

---------------------------------------------------------------
My Original Post
I have to query n table(NLRImports) using the Distinct keyword, to retrieve a set of ID numbers. ( "Select DISTINCT id_nbr from NLRImport" ).

Now i want to use those values i retrieved, to process the records in the table(NLRImports) 1 by 1. How do i use those ID no's i retrieved as Variables or parameters for my next query?? If this makes sense?
----------------------------------------------------------------

First, thanks for the response.... now here is what im trying to do.
I created a simple application in delphi to import information to a table in MSSql2005. This is some of the resulting columns...

date | id_nbr | account_nbr | sub_account_nbr | ... etc
-------------------------------------------------------------

Now there will be several entries with the same id no but on different dates, so i take it dates would rather be my pkey.

Then i need to take one person's entries(i work on id_nbr) and go thru all the entries taking the earliest date and comparing all the other entries for that person to the first date and select all the dates more than 19 days after the first date and less than 91 days from first date and place it in a new table.
I used cursor s and while loops to kind of get it going but i know that cursors are not really recommended use but the performance implications dont bother with this particular job.

What other ways should i be using to accomplish this?

thanks, i hope this is clear...

Inconsistand Execution Of SISS Package

Mar 1, 2006

Hi

Can someone please help??

I have a small package that makes an OLDB connection to my local 2005 SQL server then does some processing and places the results in a text file as XML

I have created a stored proc that uses xp_cmdshell to call the package and pass a paramter to it.

It all works fine when I call it from the command line or execute the stored proc from SQL Management Studio or if I call it as part of a SQL Agent job, but when it is called from C# from an ASP page then it fails with a timeout error.

Even stanger is the fact that when there is no data there for it to process it runs OK so I dont think it is permissions but the size of the output file only has to be a couple of k for it to fail from the ASP page.

If we comment out some of the functions in the package then it will execute OK from ASP

Help Whats going on ??

Slower Execution Of SISS Packages

Apr 6, 2006

Hello,

I am experiencing that my SISS packages are executing faster during development from within the Sql Business Intelligence Development Studio environment than when I execute them with dtexecui after I have deployed them as either File System Or Sql Server deployments.

After deployment the packages run about twice a long as they do from within Sql Business Intelligence Development Studio (i.e they reference the same data and are executed on the same machine).

In short the packages import data, during this import stage the data is massaged certain calculations are performed thereon where after this massaged data is used to perform further calculations.

A summary of tools used in SISS are Execute Sql Task, Flat File Source, Oledb Destination, Data Conversion, Aggregate, Conditional Split, Merge, For Each Ado Enumerators, Script Tasks, Derived Columns and Recordset Destinations.

In terms of time from within Sql Business Intelligence Development Studio when the packages are executed for 1 month's data the total combined time is about 10 minutes and when deployed as either File System Or Sql Server deployments they run for about 20 minutes. My problem is when they are executed for a years data instead of running for 120 minutes they run for at least 240 minutes or longer.

Is this normal or am I missing some settings when building the package for deployment?

Luke.

Space Occupied By SISS Raw File Is More

Oct 23, 2007

The system I had developed is having a data flow as following:

Source received as file, .dat file
For better performance I€™m doing little transformation between .dat file to SSIS Raw file then from Raw files doing Type2 and Type3 mappings to adhere the business rules and loading the data to destination tables.

The .dat file I receive (there are many file some where around 25 file) is dumped in a folder as €śsource€? and the Raw file are in other folder as €śSSIS files€?.

My concern is the source folder size is 6GB and the same files converted in SSIS raw files format present in SSIS FILE folder and the size of this folder is 10GB.

Why is that so? Where as there€™s no extra data and the transformations between source and SISS files are like substring for the different date format and data type conversion.

Any ideas, your help in this would be appreciated.

Thank you

Command Text Was Not Set For The Command Object Error

Hi. I am writing a program in C# to migrate data from a Foxpro database to an SQL Server 2005 Express database. The package is being created programmatically. I have a form that someone fills out it has a text box as title, and a drop down box that is a category, and then a text area that is for their explanation.
On the back end I am using a stored procedure called sp_store_bkm. When I execute this it works just fine and puts the data that I put in it into the to table below is the  Stored procedure code:
ALTER PROCEDURE sp_store_bkm @oID nvarchar OUTPUT, @oTitle nvarchar(50),  @oCategory nvarchar(50), @obkmtext nvarchar(MAX)
 AS BEGIN INSERT INTO tbl_bkms(Title, Category, bkmtext) VALUES(@oTitle, @oCategory, @obkmtext)Set @oID=  SCOPE_IDENTITY() END

Now on my front end it comes up with an error in the lower left (erros on page). When I click on the error for details it seems like it is coming fromt he connection string. I cant find anything wrong with the connection string. Below is my code for the aspx page.
<%@ Page Language="VB" MasterPageFile="~/MasterPage.master" Title="Untitled Page" %><asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="ContentPlaceHolder1" Runat="Server">
<script>
function Submit2_onclick() {
Dim Connection As SqlConnection = "server=localhost;Database=BKM.mdf;integrated security=SSPI;"        connection.Open()        Try            Dim command As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand("sp_store_bkm", connection)             command.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure            Dim oID As New SqlParameter("@oID", SqlDbType.Int)            oID.Direction = ParameterDirection.Output             command.Parameters.Add(oID)            command.Parameters.Add("@oTitle", title.text)            command.Parameters.Add("@oCategory", category.text)            command.Parameters.Add("@obkmtext", bkmtext.text)            command.ExecuteNonQuery()             Dim sOrderID As String = oID.Value }</script>
<form method="post">    <table cellpadding="10" style="width: 100%">        <tr>            <td style="width: 100px">                <span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana">                Login ID:                     <br />                </span>                <asp:LoginName ID="LoginName1" runat="server" Font-Names="Verdana" Font-Size="10pt" ForeColor="Red" />                <span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana">                <br />                <br />                Title:<br />                </span>                <input id="title" style="width: 374px" type="text" /><br />                <br />                <span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana">                Category:<br />                </span>                <select id="Category" name="D1" size="1" language="javascript" onclick="return Select1_onclick()">                    <option selected="selected">Office Applications</option>                    <option>VPN</option>                    <option>WLAN</option>                </select>                &nbsp; &nbsp;                &nbsp; &nbsp;<br />                <span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana">                    <br />                Your BKM<br />                </span>                <textarea id="bkmtext" style="width: 378px; height: 196px"></textarea><br />                <br />                &nbsp;<input id="Reset1" type="reset" value="reset" />                &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;<input id="Submit2" type="submit" value="submit" language="javascript" onclick="return Submit2_onclick()" /></td>        </tr>    </table>    </form></asp:Content>

Hello--First Post & Already Need Help!

Nov 7, 2007

Greetings friends:

I am a student at DePaul University in Chicago, IL. We have a big db project tomorrow and I'm proud with the work I've done so far, I've designed my own db and tested it using queries and such. Pretty good for being introduced to SQL just a couple short months ago. Anyway, I've sort of run into a wall here. I need to have an attribute of a table be computed from others.

I'm working with 2005 Server Management Studio and I have found the computed column specification under the column properties tab. I know that I have to enter a formula, but I'm just not sure on what to do. I have a CHG_HOUR attribute in a table called "EXPERTISE" which signifies how much a consultant charges per hour, based on what he exactly does. I also have a JOB_HOURS attribute in a JOB table (that links my CONTRACT table to CONSULTANT). I want to basically give a formula that multiplies the CHG_HOUR from the EXPERTISE table by the JOB_HOURS in the JOB table. Any suggestions on how I might do this?

Thank you in advance for your response, and hopefully with more practice and courses, I can be the one helping people like me on these boards in a few years.
