How To Pass Data To VB Code

Mar 23, 2007

Simple question, I hope. How do I pass a dataset out of Report Designer to custom code when the dataset is not from the table's parent dataset?

In other words, we have a table who's dataset is dataSet1. I want to perform some calcs on dataSet2 which are not doable in the report table cells, so I want to pass it out to a code block. I just can't figure out how to get a whole field out from a secondary dataset.

=Code.MyCode(Fields!name.Value)

works fine to pass something from dataSet1. However,

=Code.MyCode(Fields!name.Value, "dataSet2")

won't work because the scope has to be wrapped in an aggregate. But in an aggregate I won't get the full 'name' dataset, only one value from it. Is there another way to specify the dataset that a field is coming from other than an aggregate scope?

How does one perform this tricky bit of getting the values out to the code?

Thanks for any info.

Pass Data Between Two Data Flow Tasks

Jul 16, 2007

Hi Guys,

I have yet another question. How can i pass data b/w 2 data flow tasks? I'm trying to get some data from one sql server and then I want to pass this whole bunch of data to another data flow task which is going to get some data from second sql server. I would probably combine them using union all and then save that as a transaction in a third sql server?

Information regarding how to pass the data with some detailed discussion would be fine with me.

thanks

How Do I Use Pass Data To/from Stored Procedure

May 2, 2006

Hello,I read an article on how to use Yahoos API to GeoCode addresses. Basedon the article I created a stored procedure that is used as follows:SPGeocode '2121 15st north' ,'arlington' ,'va' ,'warehouse-test'Returns:Latitude Longitude GeoCodedCity GeoCodedState GeoCodedCountryPrecision Warning----------- ---------- ------------- ------------- ------------------------------ --------38.889538 -77.08461 ARLINGTON VA USPrecision Good No ErrorIt returns Latitude and Longitude and other information. Works great. In conjunction with Haversine formula, I can compute the distancebetween two locations if I know the Lat and Long of the two points. This can start to answer questions like "How many students do we havewithin a 10 mile radius of Location X?"(Marketing should go nuts over this :)My question is how can i use my data from a table and pass it to theSPGeocode via a select statement? The table I would use is:CREATE TABLE "dbo"."D_BI_Student"("STUDENT_ADDRESS1" VARCHAR(50) NULL,"STUDENT_ADDRESS2" VARCHAR(50) NULL,"STUDENT_CITY" VARCHAR(50) NULL,"STUDENT_STATE" VARCHAR(10) NULL,"STUDENT_ZIP" VARCHAR(10) NULL);This is so new to me, I am not even sure what to search.TIARob

How To Pass Parameters Into Data Flow Task

Jul 18, 2007

I have a DTS package of SQL server 2000 which has two "Execute SQL Task", which gets maximum ID (call it maxID1) from table1 in mysql and maximum ID (call it maxID2) from table 2 in sql server. Those 2 as global variables passes into a data flow which grabs all data from mysql's table1 with its ID > maxID2 and ID <= maxID1 and insert into SQL server table3. This package is working so far.

My question is how to achieve the same thing in SSIS? I created two "Execute SQL Task", which will get maxID1 and maxID2, and one "Data Flow Task". But how to pass those 2 parameters into that "Data Flow Task" without using "Script Task"?

Anyone could help? Thanks!

Call Package From JAVA And Pass DB Connection Data To It

Nov 28, 2007

Hello everyone,

I have implemented a package, which loads data from a flat file into an OLE DB destination. I have added the properties of the OLE DB Connection Manager to the package configuration (XML file), in order to give me enough flexibility for running the package on different databases.

Now I wanted to integrate my package into the application that would call it and I ran into these problems.

A. Call a package from a JAVA application:
I have a JAVA web application, which should provide the source file and finally trigger the load operation.

A1: How can I execute a package from within a JAVA application?

A2: How can I pass parameters to this package?

B. Parallel Package Execution:
If I was able to trigger the package execution from my application, then I can encounter a situation where the package is triggereed to be executed again with different input data before the first package has finished.

B1: Is it possible (from SSIS point of view) that the same package gets executed parallely with different input?

C. Run the package against several databases:
Assuming that I have 5 databases where I load data using this package.
I have created 5 configuration.xml files with the corresponding DB connection properties.

C1: How can I tell the package which configuration file to read from, in order to load the source data into the correct destination? Is it possible to pass the path of the configuration.xml file when executing a package?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Samar

Cannot Pass Params (data Type System.guid) To Subreport?

Feb 19, 2007

Hello experts,

I am trying to create a report including a subreport in VS.2003 Reporting services. The subreport itself runs properly, if I give it a parameter, but when I try to run the main (parent) report, I get the obvious message Subreport could not be shown.

The output windows returns a message:

The value expression used in textbox €˜AccountID€™ returned a data type that is not valid.

The AccountID field is a system.guid. I tried to "cast" it as a text, but I got another error message that the system.guid cannot be explicitly converted.

Does anyone know how to get around this?

Thank you very much.

Can I Use A SqlDataSource Control Exclusively To Pass Data To A Stored Procedure For Execution (insert/update Only)?

Feb 28, 2008

Hi,
I'm reasonably new to ASP.NET 2.0
I'm in my wizard_FinishButtonClick event, and from here, I want to take data from the form and some session variables and put it into my database via a stored procedure.  I also want the stored procedure to return an output value.  I do not need to perform a select or a delete.
For the life of me, I can't find a single example online or in my reference books that tells me how to accomplish this task using a SqlDataSource control.  I can find lots of examples on sqldatasources that have a select statements (I don't need one) and use insert and update sql statements instead of stored procedures (I use stored procedures).
I desperately need the syntax to:
a) create the SqlDataSource with the appropriate syntax for calling a stored procedure to update and/or insert (again, this design side of VS2005 won't let me configure this datasource without including a select statement...which I don't need).
b) syntax on how to create the parameters that will be sent to the stored procedure for this sqldatasource (including output parameters).
c) syntax on how to set the values for these parameters (again...coming from form controls and session variables)
d) syntax on how to execute, in the code-behind, the stored procedure via the sqldatasource.
If anybody has sample code or a link or two, I would be most appreciative.
Thank you in advance for any help!

I Need To Pass Data Entered /created On The First Page To The Next Page And Populate The Next Page With Some Data From The Fir

Nov 28, 2006

Hello I have a project that uses a large number of MS Data access pages created in Access 2003 and runs on MS SQL2005.

When I am on lets say my client, (first page in a series) data access page and I have completed the fields in the (DAP), I am directing my users to the next step of the registration process by means of a hyperlink to another Data access page in the same web but in a linked or sometimes different table.

I need to pass data entered /created on the first page to the next page and populate the next page with some data from the first page / table. (like staying on the client name and ID when i go to the next page)

I also need the first data access page to open and display a blank or new record. Not an existing record. I will also be looking to creata a drop down box as a record selector.

Any pointers in the right direction would be appreciated.
I am some what new to data access pages so a walk through would be nice but anything you got is welcome. Thanks Peter€¦
