Dear Techies,I making one stored procedure, which does some operation based on aninterface hash (#) table ---- name #mydata.This stored has two section of code (seperated by parameter value 0and 1)But hash table #mydata (same name) number/name of columns changes asper call 0 or 1.e.g.when call for 0, ----> Pass 2 columns as company_cd and section_cd ininterface hash (#) table ---- name #mydata.when call for 1, ----> Pass 3 columns as Section_cd, line_cd andsubline_cd in interface hash (#) table ---- name #mydata.As a result, none of the case (0 or 1) is running properly, It givesproblem.When I execute procedure for 0 by passing #mydata with two columns---> it gives problem in 1 section codeAnd When I execute procedure for 1 by passing #mydata with threecolumns ---> it gives problem in 0 section codePlease suggest !!! If anybody have faced the same problem or have anyidea about this case.(I think passing hash table with 3 column as col1,col2,col3 can servethe purpose, but this may cause rework in my case, so looking foralternate solution)Thanks in Advance,T.S.Negi

Hello,
I have two controls on a page. One is for cost and other for date.
Both the fields are not mandatory.
User can leave them blank and submit the page.
The problem is when page is submitted values are passed to a stored procedure but if user hasn't entered anything in these fields
then what should i pass to the store procedure.
data type in store procedure are
money for cost and datetime for date

From my one app, a dynamic where clause will generate like below.
//where ordercity='london' and orderby='smith'
//where orderamount > 100 and shipcity='new york'
From server, I created a store procedure as below.
SELECT * FROM [Order] WHERE @whereSql
How to complete the store procedure so that I don't need to pass parameters one by one...

I am working on a report where some customization is need to be delivered.. situation is , i have some parameter in report @USER_ID , @Report_Type where i am proving selection to user to select Report Type (Pending Or Completed) and passing USER_ID auto matically from URL string of user login(C# code).
I have another parameter @USER_IDS which is multiple selection for user and it will be filled with the users which lie under passed @USER_ID means i just need to add dataset with the query to select users from mapper table where reporting_head =@USER_ID, simple, but i have requirement to populate the underlined users with the selection of @USER_ID and @Report_Type and it need some TSQL code to populate so i am using Another store procedure and using same parameter as my main store procedure has .
Now i am using dataset with this store procedure to fill my @USER_IDS parameter
Both parameters value will be passed from main report parameters now , when i am previewing a report i am getting error
and i also tried to write exec statement in dataset query with the main repport paramters but exec is not supported ..

Hi all,Seems like a fundamental question to me but I dont have a definiteanswer for it, Gurus please enlighten me.I have a table 'Table1' whose structure changes dynamically based onsome configuration values from another table. This table is being usedby a program, It was initially used by this program which ran as asingle task (executing at only a specific interval) but now the programhas to be run mutiple times some coinciding with each othe - whichmeant that table structure will change as 2 programs are runningsimultaneously... and therefore I have decided to use seperate tablenames that each has a structure of its now.I use this table name 'Table1' in about 10-15 stored procedures andUDF'sto make the long story short: Since I will not know which table I willbe using in the program I want to pass the table name as an argument tothe SP and UDF's and then access this param in the'select's/updates/inserts' - but this doesn't work unless I use DynamicSQL.Is there any other way of passing table names as parameters and thenusing then in the procs?any ideas will be really helpful.adi

I am using SQL2005 and would like to know if it is possible to pass a table name as an input parameter in a stored procedure?? I am struggling to get it to work.
For example:
CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.StartBlock
@TableName varchar(30),
@minX float OUTPUT,
AS
BEGIN
SET NOCOUNT ON;
SET @minX = (SELECT min(X) as mX
FROM @TableName);
END
GO
The above does not work and give the following error
Must declare the table variable "@TableName"
Thanks

Once I declare the attributes I need to create a Temp table and update the data in it. Creating temp table
Once I have created the Temp table following query I need to run
SELECT date FROM #tempTable
WHERE #temp.date NOT IN (SELECT date FROM mytable WHERE mytable.date IN (list-of-input-attributes) and index = @index)
The above query might return null result or a date .

Hi
I am new to SQL programming. This is what I am trying to do in store procedure.
Alter a table - adding two columns.
Then update those columns
Both the above action in same procedure .
When I execute them - it complains that the columns I am adding in the first part of store procedure , does not exists.
So the SP looks like this
create store procedure <name> as
alter table <name> ADD
column_1 nvarchar (256),
column_2 nvarchar (256);
update table
set
column_1 = <condition>
column_2 = <condition>
The SQL complains -
invalid column name column_1
invalid column name column_2
Can some one help please...

now i want to learn how to make a stored procedure to insert a record to `purchase` table, and many records to `purchase_detail` table with transaction where the some value are passed from vb6 through the parameters. i've made a SP to insert 1 record to `purchase` table n 1 record to `purchase_detail` just for testing, so i set the disc value to 10. it works fine... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CREATE PROCEDURE `usp_save_purchase`(xpurch_id VARCHAR(10), xpurch_date VARCHAR(10), xsupp_id VARCHAR(10), xitem_id VARCHAR(10), xqty TINYINT(3), xprice DOUBLE(15,2)) BEGIN START TRANSACTION; INSERT INTO purchase(purch_id,purch_date,supplier_id) VALUES(xpurch_id, xpurch_date, xsupplier_id); INSERT INTO purchase_detail(purch_id,item_id,qty,price,disc) VALUES(xpurch_id, xitem_id, xqty, xprice, 10); COMMIT; END --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- what i need is something like that but i only pass 3 variables (purch_id, purch_date, and supp_id) to SP, and then the SP will insert 1 record of purchase to `purchase` table, and add the purchase items to `purchase_detail` automatically from `purch_temp` table, and use the disc rate based on `supplier_id` and `item_id` from supplier_disc table, which will be looked something like this: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CREATE PROCEDURE `usp_save_purchase`(xpurch_id VARCHAR(10), xpurch_date VARCHAR(10), xsupp_id VARCHAR(10)) BEGIN START TRANSACTION; INSERT INTO purchase(purch_id,purch_date,supplier_id) VALUES(xpurch_id, xpurch_date, xsupplier_id); /*start looping here get the disc rate for each items where supp_id = xsupplier_id and item_id = the item_id from purch_temp table, and save it in a local variable (let's say local_disc) INSERT INTO purchase_detail(purch_id,item_id,qty,price,disc) VALUES(xpurch_id, xitem_id, xqty, xprice, local_disc); */ COMMIT; END --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- can anyone help me please? thank you in advance...

Hi all,
I've a requirement to store the output of the stored procedure into temp. tables/ table varibles.
I've 4 select statements as my output of the stored procedure. How do I store the results of all the 4 select stmnts into 4 different temp tables.
Simplified SP is as...
Create procedure usp_test
as
begin
select c1,c2 from table1
select c3,4 from table2
select c9,c8 from table3
select c5,c7 from Table4
end
I'm expecting something like this...
declare @table1 table (c1, c2)
insert into @table1
Exec <Sp_Name>
select * from @table1
I know the above stmnt works, if my SP has only 1 select stmnt as output.
Please help me to acheive this for multiple select statements.
Thanks,

QtyProd_Plan_DateC1 P11100C1 P22 50C1 P33 30C2 P11200C2 P42 40C2 P53 10There is a problem when accessing data for usage priority wise.Problem is as follows:We want to plan production date as per group (company) sorted order andpriority wise.==>With less data, it works fine.==>But when there are more records for e.g. 100000 or more , it changesthe logical order of dataSo plan date calculation gets effected.==Although I have solved this problem with putting identity column andchecking in where condition.But, I want to know why this problem is coming.If anybody have come across this similar problem, please let me knowthe reason and your solution.IS IT SQL SERVER PROBLEM?Thanks & Regards,T.S.Negi

How does one pass into a Stored Procedure an array of numbers to be used in an IN clause? If I pass "1,2" in a VARCHAR, the stored procedure sees only the first number (1 in this case).
I'm using VB and ADO.NET, but I don't know how to set up the stored procedure for an array. Is there a parsing function to do this?

I am having one store procedure which use to load data from flat file to staging table dynamically.
Everything is working fine.staging_temp table have single column. All the data stored in that single column. below is the sample row.
AB¯ALBERTA ¯93¯AI
AI¯ALBERTA INDIRECT ¯94¯AI
AL¯ALABAMA ¯30¯
After the staging_temp data gets inserted into main table.my probelm is to handle such a file where number of columns are more than the actual table.
If you see the sample rows there are 4 column separated by "¯".but actual I am having only 3 columns in my main table.so how can I get only first 3 column from the satging_temp table.
Output should be like below.
AB¯ALBERTA ¯93
AI¯ALBERTA INDIRECT ¯94
AL¯ALABAMA ¯30
How to achieve above scenario...

Hello,
i need to create temporary table inside SP.
i having one string variable @strQuery which contain dynamic query inside SP.
i am executing that trhough execute sp_executesql @strQuery once query build.
now instead of select query , i want to creat hash table.
so i wrote :
set @strQuery = "Select * into #tmp_tbl from table_name..."
when i tried to execute it through
execute sp_executesql @strQuery , its giving error 'Invalid object name '#tmp_tbl'
If i removed Hash then it works fine. even for double Hash also its work fine.
but i want hash table only as i want that table local to that user.
Even direct execution of select statement without @strQuery works fine. but i want to execute @strQuery through execute sp_executesql @strQuery only as query is dynamic .
please guide me how to do this?
its very urgent for me.
thanks in advance.

On SQL 2012 (64bit) I have a CLR stored procedure that calls another, T-SQL stored procedure.
The CLR procedure passes a sizeable amount of data via a user defined table type resp.table values parameter. It passes about 12,000 rows with 3 columns each.
For some reason the call of the procedure is verz very slow. I mean just the call, not the procedure.
I changed the procdure to do nothing (return 1 in first line).
So with all parameters set from
command.ExecuteNonQuery()to
create proc usp_Proc1
@myTable myTable read only
begin
return 1
end
it takes 8 seconds.I measured all other steps (creating the data table in CLR, creating the SQL Param, adding it to the command, executing the stored procedure) and all of them work fine and very fast.
When I trace the procedure call in SQL Profiler I get a line like this for each line of the data table (12,000)
SP:StmtCompleted -- Encrypted Text.
As I said, not the procedure or the creation of the data table takes so long, really only the passing of the data table to the procedure.
