How To Pass Parent Package Parameters To A Package Executed By SQL Server Job Agent
Jan 11, 2007
Hi,
I'd like to know if there's a way to pass parent package parameters to a package executed by SQL Server Job Agent? It appears that sp_start_job doesn't have any variable that could accomodate this.
Hope to hear your ideas.

Hi,
I am calling one SSIS package from another using the Execute Package Task.
I also need to pass a parameter to the called SSIS package.
Can I do this? If yes, how? If no, then what will be the work-around for this?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I created a package which passes some infornmations( through parameters) to its child package.
I need to do some processing in parent package based on execution status of child package.i.e.
if child fails then some operation and if child succeeds then other operation.
To determine the status of execution of child package I am using two differnt constraint ..one constraint is having value "Success" and other having value "Failure".
My problem is that when child packge is executed successfully the constraint with value = "Success" works properly but when child fails the constraint with value "Failure" does not work.

Hi,
I'm having Parent package, which has For each loop which returns Val1 , Val2 , Val3 and Val 4
I want to create child package which accepts one parameter and call this package inside For each loop.
Inside loop i want to call 4 child packages(same pakage) simultaneously.
If i create child package which access parent package variable, i will have to modify modify each child package. I cannot reused child package.
How can i create a generic child package ?
Thanks,
Sandeep.

I have created a SSIS package with a Foreach Loop including a Data Flow Task, which in turn include a Row Count component which pass the row count value to variable with package scope. The variable is used in an Execute SQL Task following the Data Flow Task.
The package executes successfully when executed on its own, but when executed as a child from a parent package (which only include an Execute Package Task) the variable from the Foreach Loop becomes NULL.
There are a lot of other variables in the package receiving values dynamically without any problem, the row count variable however is the only variable in the package that receives a value as part of a Data Flow (and used in following tasks within the Foreach Loop).
Why does the variable become Null? For your information, I am using a variable with package scope and no variables from the parent package are used or passed from the child package to the parent package.
(For your information, we are running the 64 bit version)

Hi,
I have packages stored in SQL store. I was letting users run the packages from a .net app that I made with
Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime
Now I have noticed this causes the packages to run on the client pc cpu, as well as the network traffic is done via the client pc, in my particular case this is slow.
From the doc and in this forum I have found that you can run a package on the Server cpu through sql agent, let packages be run in a sql job. after that you can start a package from an application with the SQL sp_start_job .
But How do you set a user::varibale in a package if you have to start the package from a sql agent job ?

We
have one main package from which 7 other child packages are called. We are using
ParentPackage variables to assign values for variables and database connections.
While the values from ParentPackage variable get assigned to some of the
packages properly, to others it doesn€™t assign the value.
For example:
Except for one of the packages the database connection string gets assigned
properly to all other packages.
Similarly, in another package one of the
variables doesn€™t get assigned. In other packages it is assigned properly.
We
have checked all the other property values and they are exactly the same.
We cannot make any head or tail of this erratic behavior.
Please Help.

hi,
I am interested in Passing value from a child Package variable to the Parent package that calls it in ssis.
I am able to call the Child package using the execute package task and use Configurations to pass values from the parent variable to the child, but I am not able to pass the value from the child to the parent.
I have a variable called datasetId in both the parent and child. it gets computed in the child and needs to be passed to the parent...
Any suggestions?
Thanks for any help in advance..

Hi guys,
Here's the deal. I have a child package, (say, pack01.dtsx), which uses a dtsconfig file for its connection string, which can be called from other packages, but which also can be called by itself.
However I also have another package (say, pack02.dtsx) which uses the same dtsconfig file for its connection string. It calls on pack01.dtsx.
When I use DTEXECUI and run pack01.dtsx, specifying the proper .dtsconfig file, it goes well. But when I try and run pack02.dtsx, an error occurs saying pack01.dtsx connection cannot be established.
How do I pass the connectionstring being used by pack02 to pack01, without having to remove the configuration file setting of pack01? Can a Parent Package configuration and a configuration file try and map to the same property?
Hope someone could help. Thanks.

Hello All,
I have a SSIS Package with a "Execute Package Task" to call a child package. I am trying to have the master/parent package complete its execution regardless the outcome (failure or success) of the child package. The overall structure of the master package is:
1. Perform Pre-load tasks (stored procedure).
2. Execute Package Task (call child package)
3. Perform Post-load Tasks (stored procedure)
I have try everything and cannot get the results that I want... I have tried the combination of "failparentonfailure", "forceexecutionvalue", etc. The master package stops at childs failure. I would like to resume to completion
Any ideas out there?

I have two SSIS packages in a project, one calling the other. The parent package works fine in my local mechine. After they are deployed to the production, I schedeul jobs to run the packages in the SqlServer. The child package works fine if I run it alone, but the parent package could not find its child package if I run the parent package . As I checked, all xml config files and the connection string pointing to the child package were set correctly. It seems the parent package did not use the xml config file. Can someone help me? I have a parent package which calls a number of child packages. Occasionally, I have one child package which starts up and appears to finish but the parent package never gets notification that the child has finished. If I view this in Management Studio's in Integration Services, I can view the packages that are running and only the parent package is running. Because it never gets control back, the next child package will never get started and the parent package will continue to run and never finish.
Any idea what could be happening??

Hello All,
I have a Master Package which calls a group of other packages out on the SSIS Package Store using parent / child and a number of variables. These seem to work when passing various audit information (audit key, record counts, etc) but when I try to pass a variable for the connection string and assign it via an expression to the connection manager, I get the Master Package writing to the correct database and the children package writing to their "default" database which is supplied as the default value in the variables which should be populated by the parent task.
i.e., I end up with my master package audit information in database a and child package audit and transactions in database b, even though the packages associated with these transactions are supposed to be reading the connection string from a parent variable. Any clues or suggestions?
Edit: It is still passing along the correct parent audit information and record counts, it's just not connecting to the correct database by the variables holding the connect string
Thanks for your time.

I run into some issues and really need some expert help here.
Here is the problem. I have two packages (parent.dtsx and child.dtsx). Both package have its own configuration file (parent.dtsConfig and child.dtsConfig). The file Child.dtsConfig contains a variable (i.e. "X") that is to be used by Child.dtsx.
Inside parent.dtsx. there is a package-task that calls into Child.dtsx. It worked perfectly well if I run parent.dtsx using Dtexec or from inside SSIS's IDE.
Now I want to programmably call "parent.dtsx" from my C# code. I loaded package using "app.LoadPackage"... Inside C# code, I want to reconfigure Child-package's variable ("X"). I then loaded in "Child.dtsx". However when I run "parent.dtsx" and child.dtsx still loads the original value for "X". The reconfigured value for "X" is not updated.
Please help on how to get around this issue.
Thanks.

Hi Friends,
I am a newby to SSIS and it has been around 2 weeks since I have started with SSIS in my project.
Now, I have been able to successfully build the SSIS package for my project need which is to export all the data from excel source file to the destination database tables after certain validations and modifications. So, when I run the package from the Visual Studio, it runs fine, but actually we have to call the SSIS package from the Webpage through ASP.NET. I have used following code, for loading and executing the package on the page load event.
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Application app = new Application();
// Load package from file system
Package package = app.LoadPackage("C:\Monitor 3\EEObjectImportSSISPackage\ImportCustomPointObject.dtsx", null);
Variables vars = package.Variables;
vars["selectedArea"].Value = 1050;
DTSExecResult result = package.Execute(null, vars, null, null, null);
}
All the connections and the log details are configured in the package itself. I am not much expert on the how to configure the package properly, as this is my first hands on effort at SSIS.
Unfortunately, I am not able to execute the package from the above piece of code. I have tried referring to various blogs, but none could come to my rescue. On the page load, it generates the log which notes below errors.

Background:
I am executing a package programmatically from ASP.NET using C#. The package is being loaded from SQL Server at runtime and then it is executed from a custom class written in C#.
Problem:
When a task fails, I'd like information on why it failed. I read about implemeting the IDTSEvents interface as a way to have my package call back to code. This works fine (I have code in the OnTaskFailed event handler), but I'm not sure how to find out why a task failed. Since my task is loading a flat file to SQL Server, failure will likely come in one of two flavors: either the file format will be wrong or the data will violate a database constraint. In etiher case, I'd like that feedback. I am looking that the TaskHost object that gets passed to my event handler and I haven't figured out how to access this information. Am I going about this the right way? If yes, how do I access the error information I am looking for?

Dear All,
I'm using SSIS package to extract text file, and load into SQL Server. I test the SSIS package import manually, it works. Then I'm using SQL Server Agent to set up schedule. According to the log, the job agent work at the scheduled time, yet job agent throw out the error message.
Message1:
The job failed. The Job was invoked by User sysAdmin. The last step to run was step 1 (Extract Data).
Message2:
Executed as user: SQLSERVERsysAdmin. The package could not be loaded. The step failed.
Now I only have 1 step and set up "on success action" then "quite the reporting success". Any clue? Thanks

Hi,
I have a SSIS package that I developed using Business Intelligence Development Studio. I imported it into our SQL Server database and it runs fine (when I connect to Integration Services within SQL Server Management Studio, and run the package). But when I created a SQL Server Agent job comprising 1 step, to run this package, it fails. The failing step attempts to read data from a MS Access 2000 DB into SQL Server 2005.
I added logging to the package, and got the following error logged to the Event Viewer:
"The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "CurrentYearPCStats" failed with error code 0xC0202009."
I then created a new Operating System (CmdExec) step, calling DTEXEC with the command line copied from that generated by the SSIS step. The command line is:
"C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90DTSBinnDTEXEC.EXE" /SQL "AFAReductionAFA Reduction Integration" /SERVER <ourservername> /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF
This failed with the same error in the Event Viewer, but for some reason also produced a meaningful error in the SQL Server Agent job's View History:
Description: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft JET Database Engine" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '\<anotherservername>PCStatsliveCurrData.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data."
Please note that the SQL Server Agent runs using user id sqlservice, by default, and I have amended this user's Windows account to make it a Domain Admin.
Please let me know why I might get this error, when the package runs OK on its own.
Many thanks,
Keith.

Hi Everyone:
I would like to find out, if there is something I can implement/or should I need to implement to avoid running two concurrent processes of 1 SSIS Package. I mean by default, I will schedule the SSIS package to run utilizing SQL Server Agent. But How I avoid/prevent it to run concurrently or what do I need to setup where I only allow 1 instance of my package to run. Thanks.

Hi, I have been searching through the posts hoping to find an answer to my problem. Most errors and problems seem to deal with Agent not being able to run packages because of permission issues.
My problem has to do with SQL Server Agent not finding the package to run. I have a proxy with a high enough level of permissions (SqlAgentOperatorRole).
The error message I get is:
Executed as user: ___/____. The package could not be found. The step failed.
The package is in a folder on our network. When I create the step I use the browser to go find and select the package. So why does it not find it at runtime? I can run it manually
My group is using 2005 for the first time. Any help you can provide would be very much appreciated.

Dear All,
My SSIS package is "Extract" data from Oracle and Load into SQL Server.
The SSIS package does not run when I call the SSIS package from a SQL Server Agent job step
I have gone through all the steps in the doc http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918760, but it still doesn't work.
Is it because of connection to "Oracle" database? and SQL Server Agent service could not recognise the Authentication information to Oracle?
Why I am saying this is becuase it works if I change the package to "Extract" data only from SQL Server.
Anyone has experience on this problem?
Many Thanks in Advance

I've been looking everywhere for a hint on how to tackle this, but can't get it to work.
I have an SSIS package that I am trying to run from SQL Server Agent.
I have been able to run it fine from the IDE, and from within the Integration Services system on my database server. However when I try to run the package via SQL Server Agent I get the following error:
"Executed as user: MyDomainSQLServer. The package execution failed. The step failed."
The login name is the SQL Server service account, which is a domain account on our domain. The package is set with EncryptSensitiveWithPassword and the password is supplied on the command line via the /DECRYPT flag.
I am thinking that maybe there is a permissions problem with the service account, but I can't find any detailed information about what actual permissions this account requires. I have tried expanding its permissions, but continue to get this error.
How should the MyDomainSQLServer account be configured?

I have a problem running an SSIS package in a SQL Server job. The package runs fine if I run it from the MSDB location, but if I try to run the job it fails. The job is set to Run as: SQL Agent Service Account. The SQL Service Agent service runs as a domain user SQLExec. I have logged in as this user and run the SSIS package and it runs fine, but if I create a job with only this step it fails. There isn't much information about where there is a problem. Any ideas or ways to troubleshoot this problem would be very much appreciated.

Hello,
I want execute package with SQL Server Agent. I create a job and I try all the solutions : my job doesn't want to work.
I success to launch the package but the execution failed.
I try the same job launching from the server : it doesn't work either.
So, I copy the command line (/FILE, /DTS or /SQL) and with DTEXEC utility it works when this command is executed on the server (on a client computer, the problem "the product level is insufficient" appears).
Why is it working with this utility and not with a job ?
I try to change every secured option (credential --> proxy --> Run as ; change the owner of the job ; etc.)
What options must be checked and modified ?
Thanks for your help !
