How To Render Reports To Word Format?

Nov 21, 2006

We are using SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services and looking to render our reports to Microsoft Word format. We€™ve searched around and haven€™t really found any useful information on how to do this.

Is Microsoft planning on releasing a Word rendering extension? If so, when?

Has anyone written a custom rendering extension for Word? Or, does anyone know how to write a custom rendering extension for Word?

We need either a Microsoft solution that€™s already built-in to Reporting Services or a solid, free solution. We are not in the market of buying a third-party product like OfficeWriter.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Render Html In .RDLC Reports

Jun 8, 2007

Hi all,

I am using the asp.net web application and microsoft visual studio reportviewer control and rdlc for creating a report ( not using sql server reporting). I used the Product table to view the result. It has five fields and I display all the itemsin the report. One field is Description and it store the html code as the value(eg:<div><ul><li>a</li><li>b</li></ul><b>aaaa</b></div>). I want to disply the output of this html code in my report's description field. But in my report, it shows the html value that I stored in my table (:<div><ul><li>a</li><li>b</li></ul><b>aaaa</b></div>). How can I render the html in my report. Please give me a solution.

How To Render Multiple Reports Into One Output File?

Nov 21, 2006

We are using SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services and looking to render multiple reports into one output file. So, for example, say we have four reports and when the user asks for the reports to be generated, we would like to have all four reports come out in one PDF (or Excel or HTML) file instead of four separate files. I hope this makes sense.

Is there any way to render multiple reports to one output file?

Thanks!

What Is The Best Format To Render A Report Into To Then Edit

Mar 5, 2007

Hi,

I am trying to export a report into a format whiich I will then allow the user to make some final editions to prior to printing. Apparently LocalReport>Render does not support word format, however is supports others, what is the best format for me to export a report out into in order to then allow the user to edit it prior to printing, Ideally I would have just liked to lauch ms word and allow the user to edit the report if disired prior ro printing, but if I first export to .mhtml it seems to mess the column widths of the report up when opened in word..

Sql 2000 Reporting Services - Reports Will Not Render Online

Jul 5, 2007

Hi all,

i got through the installation of the Sql Server 2000 Reporting services evaluation and managed to deploy a couple reports and a shared data source to my reporting server on my DEV box.

Now im trying to view the reports i made online and they never render, all i get is the animated gif that always says "Report is being generated". This goes on and on with apparently no end in sight.

I CAN preview the reports in VS 2003 and they render almost instantly. there are no differences that may affect the connection to the database between my development computer (with VS 2003) and the server that the reporting server is on.

Anyone have any ideas as to why this may be happening ?

thanks,

mcm

How To Keep The Toggle Columns Function When I Render A Tabular Report To An Excel Format?

Apr 15, 2008

Hi all,

Currently, I am using the SSRS 2005 and try to toggle the report columns similar to Excel's column grouping function. Users can expand "+" / collapse "-" the columns in the render excel report. It works fine when I excute the tabular report in the web yet the toggle function is missing when I render the report to an Excel report. I am not sure the toggle function will only work for the row items or both as the excel report can keep the toggle function for the row items. Please help.

Reports With The Word Attachments In The Name

Nov 7, 2007

I thought I'd share this with you a) because I'm amazed, and b) to hopefully save anybody wasting the amount of time I did.

I created a report called 'Attachments by Account', and deployed it to reporting server. Then when testing it, I'd always get a File Download prompt for an html file, rather than the rendered content. After an enormous amount of messing with the report content, stripping out actions and hyperlinks and script etc., I uploaded a copy called 'aa' out of laziness, and it worked fine. Then I renamed it back to 'Attachments by Account', and I'd get the File Download prompt again. Remove the word 'Attachments' from the name and it works.

How on earth does something like that happen ?

p.s. This is SQL 2000 RS, sp 2. I've not got round to testing SQL 2005

SQL Report Server Subscription E-mail Format As MS Word

Jan 22, 2007

I am wanting to set-up a subscription to e-mail my reports in MS Word format (either .doc or .rtf) and I do not have the option on my company's report server version.

I have read that it is possible, though I don't have the option. Is this a change to report server, or maybe is our version not updated?

I can e-mail the report out in the following formats:

XML File with report data

CSV (comma delimited)

TIFF File

Acrobat (PDF) file

Web Archive (default)

Excel

Let me know if I am just expecting too much, or if there is something that needs to be updated on our report server.

Thank you,

Reports Cannot Be Exported To Csv Format

Feb 9, 2007

Hi,

We have developed few reports through SQL Server Reporting Service 2005.
All those reports are columnar graphs (BAR charts).
One of the requirement of the project is to have the ability to export the report in different formats.
Since our reports are columnar graphs we are unable to export it to CSV or MHTML format.
Is there are setting in the report, which allows me to display the values, when exported to csv format?
also is there any setting for MHTML format. Some machine open the report in MHTML format and some machine does not.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Print Format Of Linked Reports

Aug 20, 2007

Having just discovered that linked reports do not retain any print formating applied to the original report I thought I'd check out the forum and see if it was just me having a senile moment or if Microsoft had in fact dropped a clanger of massive proportion.

After reading one or two questions from other RS users it does seem as if Microsoft have stuck again and completely diminished a useful feature by stripping it of anything, well....... useful. Well done MS, you once again have my applause for mind-boggling ineptitude of what should be impossible magnitude. Ah, you've got to laugh.

Maybe this and other bugs with RS2005 will be ironed out in Microsoft Reporting Services 2008 - The Search for More Money.

Printing SQL 2005 Reports In A4 Size Format

Feb 13, 2008

I had developed my reports using SQL 2005 reporting service. While crerating the report i set the page size to 8.27in Width x 11.69in Height.
I am calling this report in my aspx pages using report viewer.

But the problem is I can't able to set the size of the page to A4 size. When i set the size of the page to A4 while printing the page is divided into two pages.

Is there any way to override the print option in reportviewer where we can set the page size to A4 ?

Convert Microsoft Word XML To PDF Without Using Microsoft Word

Jan 19, 2007

Hi all,

I work for a financial company where we send out lots of correspondence to clients on a daily and monthly basis. This would typically be something like a financial report, account statements, etc. We've decided to use PDF as the format which these documents must be in when our clients receive them.

Our marketing and sales departments designs the templates of these documents using Microsoft Word. They can save these MS Word documents in the Word XML format (either 2003 or 2007). We want it in XML format, because it is text based, and we can therefore string replace the content to update the template with a client€™s information. In the same token RTF would also do, but the file size when converted to RTF is a problem.

What I am looking for is a way to convert this XML into PDF using something like XSL-FO - i.e. we do not want to use the Word Interopt on our Production Server, firstly it is a little slow and secondly the production server is unmanned and we cannot allow a WinWord.EXE process to not close successfully for some or other reason.

I've tried a number of companies' evaluation software to try and achieve this (converting the WordML to PDF via XSL-FO), but so far no luck.

Does anybody know of a stylesheet out there with which I will be able to achieve this? Or an alternative method of converting MS Word files into PDF without using Word to do it?

Thank you in advance.
