How To Replicate Databases Created By Application

Feb 24, 2008

Scenario:

Application uses historical data for alarms, responses, etc. The application came with a sync agent but the agent only syncronizes at a minimum every 15 minutes (nice HA feature we paid for). 15 Minues is unacceptable in the event it syncronizes then 5 minutes later the database goes down - we lose 10 minutes of data. I have configured a standby server and have configured snapshot replication since the application also uses simple recovery mode, has tables with no PK, etc - so transactional / merge replication are out of the picture.

I have created publisher / subscriber configurations and all is fine....the problem comes into play with historical data. All data is stored in a database say 'History0208' indicating the current month/year. Each month a new database is created (I am assuming at 12:00 am of the first day of each month) but I will need to replicate the new database over to the subcriber. How can I go about automating this? There is a table called 'History Data' which does indicate the datapath 'History0208' for the current month. Could I call this value from the table into a stored procedure? How would i go about doing this....thanks for any help.

Data Added Before Publication Created Does Not Replicate - Why?

Feb 15, 2007

Hello,

I have a small three server development environment where I am getting my feet wet with replication. I have set up peer-to-peer transactional replication and it works fine for data added to the publication's table after the publication was created. However, rows in the table that existed prior to the publication's creation have never replicated. If any of the "old" rows are edited they cause an error on the subscribing servers when the replicator attempts to apply updates to rows that do not exist.

How can I get the old rows that predate the publication to replicate?

Thanks,

BCB

Replication :: Replicate Multiple Databases (publications) To One Central Subscriber?

Sep 2, 2015

We need to replicate multiple databases (publications) to one central subscriber. The schema of those articles are identical in all publications and also the primary keys in publications do not have any overlap.

Is this possible? If yes is there any specific thing that I should consider for it's implementation? Should each publication has it's own dedicated distributor or all of them can share one distributor?

SQL 2012 :: Why Are Databases Showing Up In Newly Created Instance

Sep 18, 2015

Why are the user databases that were created in the MSSQLSERVER default instance showing up in the newly created ALPHAONE instance? I'm successfully logging into the alphaone database as it shows as "DASAlphaOne,1xxxPport) at the top of the treeview in ssms. I'm logging in as sa and can edit anything.

The issue here is that all the user databases are shown and can even be edited. I created this instance in an effort to hide databases from whoever is not supposed to see.I was expecting a clean instance with only the system databases..Is there something that can be set to keep each instance's databases private into itself?

Can Reports Update Application Databases?

Feb 18, 2008

we have a new requirement that calls for also (in addition to RS's automatic directory updates) updating an organizational application database with metatdata about instances of scheduled reports, or alternatively having our app query RS's metadata for such info.

So, let's say we have a report called Sales Detail, and it runs at 8am every day of the week for client A thru the scheduling mechanism that comes with RS. Each time it runs to completion, an entry would have to be made in our organizational database representing a new run (instance) of the report under the client for whom it was run, in this case A.

Forgetting for the moment potential issues with a reporting system interfering with the transactional, or vice versa, can datasets in RS also do updates?...or can the scheduling mechanism in RS be extended to also log info to other places?...or is the metadata kept by RS (about instances of reports) easy to get to and decipher, and possibly be extended to record for which client this particular instance was run?

DB Design :: Moving All SC Databases From Their Respective Application Servers To A Central One?

We are planning to move all of our System Center Databases that reside on front end servers to each system center application to a centrally located SQL 2012 server. We'd like to centralize everything and have our DBA care for the server. here is our setup:

SCOM has 1 monitoring and 1 Data warehouse server. SCCM has 1 server with all roles on it. DPM database is on the same server as Application. Same with SCVMM. I have 2 questions regarding this move:

1. Can I have all these databases running on 1 SQL instance?

2. Is there a best practice document that highlights steps and "gotchyas"

Are The Databases Created Within VWD Express Accessible By Aspnet_regsql.exe Or Management Studio Express?

Nov 13, 2006

Hi,When I attempt to add the membership functionality to a database created within VWD Express, by using the aspnet_regsql.exe application (connecting to ./SQLEXPRESS using Windows authentication), the database I've created within VWD Express doesn't appear within the list of accessible databases. I have the same problem when attempting to access the same database within Management Studio Express.Does this mean that databases created from within VWD Express don't use the same storage mechanism or paradigm as those already available within Management Studio Express? Or perhaps I need to somehow register the database using Management Studio Express? As a side note, I'm not sure if the "File/Open File" menu option within Management Studio Express holds the answer to my problems, but rather bizarrely, it crashes Management Studio Express when I select it.Apologies for the rambling - in essence my question is "How can I make databases created within VWD Express appear within aspnet_regsql.exe and/or Management Studio Express?"Many thanks,Jon

Get New Database Created Then Running Script To Created Tables / Relationships

Jun 29, 2015

trying to get a new database created then running a script to created the tables, relationships, indexes and insert default data. All this I'm making happen during the installation of my Windows application. I'm installing SQL 2012 Express as a prerequisite of my application and then opening a connection to that installed SQL Server using Windows Authentication.

E.g.: Data Source=ComputerNameSQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=master;Integrated Security=SSPI; Then I run a query from my code to create the database eg: "CREATE DATABASE [MyDatabaseName]".

From this point I run a script using a Batch file containing "SQLCMD....... Myscriptname.sql". In my script I have my tables being created using "Use [MyDatabaseName]   Go   CREATE TABLE [dbo].[MyTableName] .....". So question is, should I have [dbo]. as part of my Create Table T-SQL commands? Can I remove "[dbo]."? Who would be the owner of the database? If I can remove the [dbo]., should I also remove dbo. from any query string from within my code?

Can Not Replicate DDL Changes

Jun 6, 2007

Merge replication. We switched a publication over from push to pull and are now initiating everything within an application. We have just encountered a situation where it is now completely impossible to replicate DDL.

When this was a push subscription, we could execute the following and it would fly straight through the engine and hit every subscriber without having to do anything at all:

ALTER TABLE <tablename>

ADD <columnname> <datatype> NULL

Now that it is a pull subscription when I issue an ALTER TABLE and add a nullable column to the end of the table, it does NOT replicate at ALL. We get the following error message:

The schema definition of the destination table 'dbo'.'Player' in the subscription database does not match the schema definition of the source table in the publication database. Reinitialize the subscription without a snapshot after ensuring that the schema definition of the destination table is the same as the source table. (Source: MSSQL_REPL, Error number: MSSQL_REPL-2147199478)
Get help: http://help/MSSQL_REPL-2147199478

The process was successfully stopped. (Source: MSSQL_REPL, Error number: MSSQL_REPL-2147199481)
Get help: http://help/MSSQL_REPL-2147199481

It apears that we are now required to either reinitialize every subscriber every time we add a column or we are required to first distribute the DDL change to each subscriber, make sure they all have it, then add it to the publisher before anyone replicates, and then reinit every single one of them without a snapshot. This makes absolutely no sense at all.

The interesting thing is that we can add articles at will and those get applied with absolutely no problems at all to the subscribers without having to do anything other than add the article and generate a new snapshot.

Rollback Will Drop Created Tables And Drop Created Tables In Transaction..?

Dec 28, 1999

Hi folks.

Here i have small problem in transactions.I don't know how it is happaning.
Up to my knowldge if you start a transaction in side the transaction if you have DML statements
Those statements only will be effected by rollback or commit but in MS SQL SERVER 7.0 and 6.5
It is rolling back all the commands including DDL witch it shouldn't please let me know on that
If any one can help this please tell me ...........Please............
For Example
begin transaction t1
create table t1
drop table t2

then execute bellow statements
select * from t1
this query gives you table with out data

select * from t2
you will recieve an error that there is no object

but if you rollback
T1 willn't be there in the database

droped table t2 will come back please explain how it can happand.....................

What Is The Best Way To Replicate Data?

Oct 18, 2006

Hi everyone, I've recently been thrown into a DBA role (I've never done any DBA work except writing a few SQL queries), so please go easy on me if these are stupid questions. My first task is to find the best way to replicate data between two SQL Server production databases. The data is to come from Production DB #1 to Production DB #2 (for access by a different system). The data has to be super-close -- not necessarily real-time, but within a few minutes. So when data is updated in #1, #2 shouldn't be be lagged by more than 45 minutes (5-10 is ideal). There are hundreds of thousands of records. What would be the best way to do this? Are there options in SQL Server 2005 to do "differential" updates from DB1 to DB2? Or is that how "transactional replication" works?  If we were to implement a "full recovery model", will this impact any sort of replication? Thanks.

Replicate To Laptops??

Mar 30, 2001

WE have a production database that we need to sync with about 100
salesman's laptops. These laptops will not always be online and
would need to sync on the fly.

We are thinking of having a separate distribution database to handle
the load and creating either a pull subscription or even just a DTS
package. We would like to have the salesmen just signon and go to an
ASP page and hit an Icon and either the pull subscription or the dts
package would start the sync..

Anyone tried this before and have any other ideas??

Thanks for any help??

Trans Rep Will Not Replicate

Jun 18, 2001

I have set up a simple trans rep from a server in the office to the web. both servers are NT4sp6aSQL 7.0. Tables only.

The publication and distribution db are on the server at the office, and there is a full time connection through the firewall.

The initialization and first replication works perfectly, but after that, there is a message from the snapshot agent that "no subscriptions needed initialization", the logreader says thare are no replicated transactions and the Distribution agent says there are no replicated transactions. What am I missing?

Thanks in advance

What Is The Best Way To Replicate The Data?

Nov 15, 1999

Hi, there
I have a situation here....
I have Production DB and Development DB in the same SQL7.0 box....
I want to update the data and SP from Pro. to Dev at least once a day...
So this is my plan.

1. Back up(Pro.) and restore(Dev.) so I can have the same DB in the same box.
2. Using a Replication (Pulication and Subscription) ro update the data and SP.
3. Because DTS can not update the SP, I use the replication instead of DTS.
I need to update the SP, too..(Front end is ACCESS and backend is SQL7.0 DB)

Is there any other methods or way to make ti happen... Any suggestion can help...

Thanks in advance

Couldn't Replicate ???

Jan 4, 2006

Hi,

I'm new to replication.
I configured Server named TESTER as publisher & distributer. Create new publication for database named TEST ( type : Transactional ), then Create a new push subcriptions for database TESTREPLICATION ( on the same Server : TESTER). Then I open a table in database TEST to input some data but I couldn't see any tables or data in database TESTREPLICATION ( I chose Continuously, not scheduled).

Yet, after the lunch, I could see the tables, no data. I tried to choose Start Synchronizing but not helped.

Please tell me if I configured incorrectly ?
