How To Script An Excel Datasource In Sql Job? (SSIS)The Command Line Parameters Are Invalid.
Dec 4, 2005
I have a Sql agent job which will exeute a SSIS package. While, one of my data sources is an excel file. I scriptted the sql agent job and recreate on a test server, it fails with The command line parameters are invalid.. The command line has the following for the excel data source, and that is the place fails the job. /CONNECTION UserDataExcel;"Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=\myserverUserDataUserData.xls;Extended Properties=""EXCEL 8.0;HDR=YES"";" I guess it has something to do with the double-quote inside, Please advise.
I created a SSIS package that has a flat file manager whose connection string is a package variable, the reason is that there is a foreachfile container loop to loop thru CSV format files in a directory and load them to a sql table.
The package execution is working in the designer studio as well as in the management studio-- a copy was saved to a sql 2005 server where a sql job is deployed to run the package. However when I ran the job, it claims successful but doesn€™t do anything in reality. If I checked the box failing the package upon validation warming, the job will fail with the error: the command line parameters are invalid. The command line looks like below:
One thing that I think maybe wrong is on the data source tab of the job step GUI, the flat file manager€™s connection string is blank, compared to other connection managers having related values.
I have a package that let me to import data from a excel book to a Sql server data base. When I try to run this package like a step into a SQL server Job it show me the next error.
"The command line parameters are invalid. The step failed."
the "command line" looks like this
/FILE "C:ProjectPackage.dtsx" /CONNECTION ConexionExcel;"Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Da ta Source=;Extended Properties=""EXCEL 8.0;HDR=YES"";" /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING EWCDI and in my excel conexion is:
Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=;Extended Properties="EXCEL 8.0;HDR=YES"; When i run the "Command Line" in the "Command window" the error is more expecific
"EXCEL 8.0;HDR=YES;" is not valid So I chanded the "Command Line" in order to run it in de command window(look the double quote in the excel properties)
/FILE "C:ProjectPackage.dtsx" /CONNECTION ConexionExcel;"Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Da ta Source=;Extended Properties="EXCEL 8.0;HDR=YES";" /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING EWCDI then the package RUN, but when i tried to do the same thing in the sql wizzard, it just dont work and it lost the threat from de package and the errors says this time:
Couldn't find the package
Some one who knows the answer or has any idea to helpme please?
Microsoft confirmed that the error message "The command line parameters are invalid" issue mentioned above is a bug and has been resolved in the next "drop" of SQL Server 2005.
has this error been fixed by microsoft. Cos i still get this error!!!!!!!!!
I am also trying to run the package from command line and when i click on execute the package it runs half way and hangs. What could be the problem????.
But when i run it from my Studio and stored package it works fine!!!
I created a SSIS package to import an excel spreadsheet into my data warehouse. When I run the package it runs fine. When I created a SQL Job to run the package I get the following error:
Option "Source=D:HelpDeskImportBook2.xls;Extended" is not valid. The command line parameters are invalid.
Now if I look at my source connection string in the job it looks like the following:
I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 Standard and upgrade from Express edition. The Edition Change check tells me I must run the setup from the command prompt "and include the SKUUPGRADE=1 parameter", but I don't know how to enter this from the command line.
I've tried "D:setup SKUUPGRADE=1" and "D:setup -SKUUPGRADE=1", as well as "D:setup.exe /SKUUPGRADE=1" without success.
Can anyone give me a clue as to where I'm going wrong?

i have installed a new sql server 2005 instance. as usual the data and log devices went to standard location. as per my company policy i have to put data and log in different drives..
for eg. k:data j:log
i have move master and other db's device files to new location and i can modify it using configuration manager
but i ahve to do it on many servers so thought if i can do it from command line could save me lot of time ( i can eventually automae whole procedure)
what commands are available to change such paramter.. i need to change startup parameters options -d -l -e
What is the correct command line parameters to SQLEXPR32.exe that will default the Log On As: properties for the instance to use the Built-in account of Local System & Local Service?
I need it to be set to Local System immediately on install without having to go into the configuration manager. When I run the SQLEXPR32.exe right now I get the Network Service defaulted.

I'm trying to run have SQL Server Agent excute an SSIS package from the command line and I keep recieving an error message. I will assume that I have miss typed something. Can someone validate that the execute line looks workable?
I am logging all the tasks in my SSIS package to SQL Server. For each task I am logging atleast the Pre-Execute, PostExecute, OnError events. For Script tasks, I have custom logging and I am logging the ScriptTaskLogEntry event too.
When I run the package manually from BIDS, the logging works great ! But when I try to run the package from a job or from the command line, the number of events that is logged greatly reduces. For eg. when manually run, I get 104 records in the log table but when run from the command line I get 23 records only. Most of the custom logging messages from the Script Task do appear. Its the pre and post-execute events that are skipped. Any idea why ?
Here is command line from the job. I also use the same command line with "dtexec" from the command prompt.
In one of my SSIS package (which connect to DB2) i save the DB2 username and password in SSIS packge itself by using option "EncryptAllWithPassword". When I try to run the packge using dtexecui.exe it works perfectly fine. It prompts me for package password and then run fine.
Now I am trying to run it using command line dtxece.exe and i get fooolwoing error. Please suggest and help!!! DTExec.exe /FILE C:pkgDB2Load.dtsx /CONFIGFILE C:ConfigpkgConfigMaster.dtsConfig /Decrypt mypassword /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING EWCDI

Can someone tell me why the syntax checker is choking on the following code? It doesn't like the SQLDataSource1 reference. Protected Sub cmdSubmit_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdSubmit.Click SqlDataSource1.SelectCommand = "SELECT * FROM users WHERE username='" + Trim(txtUsername.Text) + "' AND password='" + Trim(txtPassword.Text) + "'" End Sub
I have set up a report to access a web service and consume one of its methods - a method that returns a datatable set up with a table adapter. Query code example below:
<ElementPath IgnoreNamespaces="true"> GetAllEnquiriesResponse{}/ GetAllEnquiriesResult/diffgram{}/ DocumentElement{}/Enquiry </ElementPath> </Query> This works fine and returns expected results.
However, when I try and return a set of results from a web service that has a parameter specified I get nothing returned. I have tried various different methods including adding the parameter in the dataset dialogue and specifying the parameter and specifying the parameters as in the code example below but still with no joy. Here is the code example with parameters:
<ElementPath IgnoreNamespaces="true"> GetEnquiryResponse{}/ GetEnquiryResult/diffgram{}/ DocumentElement{}/Enquiry </ElementPath> </Query> When I remove the ElementPath declaration I get back the schema of the table so I believe that is proof that the web method is being contacted but whatever I seem to try I cannot return any results (or the 1 result that the web service should return).
I would be grateful to know if anyone has any ideas or suggestions about this problem.
Using Query Analyzer, I can right click on an object and select "scriptobject to new window as create" and I get the text of the object'sdefinition (schema). Can I get same result from command line, i.e., fromosql, I can get text output for the definition of the object (something likedefncopy under Sybase)? If so, what is the command or store procedure name? Thanks in advance.
I'm trying to create report with datasource as a cube. I'm able to connect to datasource to pull data with a single parameter. But, I'm unable to succeed in creating a cascading parameter. The following scenario: I have a dimension "Period" as Paremeter. The Period dimension is cascaded to year- quarter- month. So, I would like to create a cascading parameter for period as year - quarter - month.
hi I would appreciate if someone demonstrate how to automate ftp in a command line from within a batch file. I do want to move certain files from one server to another via ftp command line in an automatic fashion via running the batch periodically.
I use a similar command below to insert into a temp table the result of a large command line call to an exectable with many parameters passed in the command of which the result passed back contains many items. I then parse the response string to get my results...
set @command = 'dir' insert into tsverisign(response) exec master..xp_cmdshell @command
My question is our can I insert two values at the same time to this same table one of which is my "exec master..xp_cmdshell @command"
similar to insert into tables (field_a, feild_b) values ('1','2')
Something like (and I know this does not work):
insert into tsverisign(response,trans_id) values (exec master..xp_cmdshell @command, '123')
Any help would be greatly appreciated .... PS I'm new to MS SQL 2000 and proper syntax etc. etc. so I need full example so I can try.
I was given a task of coming up with the script to recreate an existing database using a command line. I would use this script in case when the server is down and I can't get to Query Analyzer or EM to recreate it. I am not sure where to start. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
