How To Send Email Automatically To Users From Table?
May 2, 2008
Hi,
First of all I want to apologize if I am in the wrong forum. I am new to SQL Server.
I have a table with a field containing email address from user input. Is there a build-in function or script in SQL Server 2005 that I can send a template of a email message to users? If not in what way can I acheive this?
Thanks for all your reply.

When a new record is inserted into the database.
I want this to trigger an email that will be sent to all users who requested one when a new record was added.
I can't figure the best way to set this up.
All help gratefully received.
Thanks

Hi Everybody,
I am trying to setup a stored procedure that runs through a Reminders table and sends an email to users based on DateSent field being smaller than todays date. I have already setup the stored procedure to send the email, just having trouble looping through the recordset.
Code Snippet
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[hrDB_SendEmail]
AS
BEGIN
DECLARE @FirstName nvarchar(256),
@LastName nvarchar(256),
@To nvarchar(256),
@ToMgr nvarchar(256),
@Subject nvarchar(256),
@Msg nvarchar(256),
@DateToSend datetime,
@Sent nvarchar(256),
@ReminderID int,
@RowCount int,
@Today datetime,
@Result nvarchar(256)
-- Get the reminders to send
SELECT
@ReminderID = r.intReminderID,
@DateToSend = r.datDateToSend,
@FirstName = e.txtFirstName,
@LastName = e.txtLastName,
@To = e.txtEmail,
@Subject = t.txtReminderSubject,
@Sent = r.txtSent
FROM
(auto_reminders r INNER JOIN employee e ON r.intEmployeeID = e.intEmployeeID) INNER JOIN ref_reminders t ON r.intReminderType = t.intReminderTempID
WHERE
(((r.datDateToSend)<20/12/09) AND
((r.txtSent)='False'))
-- Send the Emails
WHILE(LEN(@To) > 0)
BEGIN
EXEC @Result = sp_send_cdosysmail @To, @ToMgr, @Subject, @Msg
END
-- Mark the records as sent
IF @Result = 'sp_OAGetErrorInfo'
BEGIN
SELECT @Sent = 'Error'
END
ELSE
BEGIN
SELECT @Sent = 'True'
END
UPDATE auto_reminders
SET
auto_reminders.txtSent = @Sent, auto_reminders.datDateSent = @Today
WHERE
intReminderID = @ReminderID
END
GO
From the code you can probably tell I am new to writing stored procedures, so I apologise for any obvious errors. My major problems are :-
how to loop through each record
how to get todays date
whether the struture of the procedure is correct
Also, if you think there is an easier way or a better method, please suggest it. I am open to any suggestions you may have,
Thanks in advance
Ben

I have a query running and returning 3 columns, user name, e-mail and device name
SELECT DISTINCT v_R_User.Full_User_Name0 AS 'User full Name', v_R_User.Mail0 AS 'E-Mail', _RES_COLL_DEV00144.Name
FROM v_R_System INNER JOIN
v_R_User ON v_R_System.User_Name0 = v_R_User.User_Name0 INNER JOIN
_RES_COLL_DEV00144 ON v_R_User.User_Name0 = _RES_COLL_DEV00144.UserName INNER JOIN
v_GS_COMPUTER_SYSTEM ON v_R_System.ResourceID = v_GS_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.ResourceID
Where v_R_User.Mail0 <> ''
ORDER BY 'User Full Name'
From here I would like to generate an e-mail to each user (like mail merge) to each user in the table an include their machine name. I can do it with PS, but rather have it run directly from SQL. Is it possible?

I am new to reporting services. I want to know how to send email whenever there is an update on TABLE_Customer. I have looked through data-driven subscription, but that is just normal schedulling. When i surf the net, i also found UpdateReportExecutionSnapshot. can i just put UpdateReportExecutionSnapshot inside my application so that when on UPDATE function, i will call UpdateReportExecutionSnapshot to trigger the snapshot to be updated?
Help... Thank you very much

I have some records (approx 100K - 500K) in my table (Name, DOB, Zip, Phone). I want to validate each record and every field as given below.
Name - Should not have numerics
DOB - Should be in yyyy-mm-dd format, should be < 1995
Zip - Should be 5 char zip, allowed 3 or 4 char zip for some States
Phone - Should have 10 numeric digits, should be in xxxx-xxxx-xx format.
After validating these rules, If the record is valid then send email saying valid record, if invalid then send email with validation failure details like which column failed which validation rule suppose DOB might not be in specified format or it might be > 2000 all these details.
How to validate all the records in bulk without any loop or cursor.

I'm very new to SQL but I have figured out how to do my first query. Now I would like to automate it to send the query as an attachment to users automatically (scheduler/cron??). How would you go about this, I need step by step hints. I'm using SQL Query Analyzer ver 8.00.2039 to generate the query from CDR records. Is this even possible?
Thank you for any guidance.

I created an operator(dmalhotr) and given me as the email address.Here is the error what I'm getting when I'm pressing the test buttonto email myself in properties dmalhotr operator (hope that makessense).Error 22022: sqlserveragent error: the sqlserveragent mail session isnot running; check the mail profile and/or the sqlserveragent servicestartup account in the sqlserveragent properties dialog.I cancel out of it. Then I go to support services --> sql mail -->right-click properties (WE HAVE LOTUS NOT EXCHANGE HERE- dont knowwhether that makes a difference).It says profile name Outlook and I click test. It says Successfullystarted (and stopped) a MAPI session with this profile.I go back to the operator and then click test to send email and I getthe same error. I started and stopped sql server agent and still getthe same error.Not sure how this works, please send me an email as to what I'm doingwrongThanks:DHRUV

The text file contains the non matching rows during lookup transform task.

But while doing this, I receive an error during package validation:

I’d like to update rows matching a certain criteria each night automatically and then send an email.
I have a table with a Status column and an Expire Date column. I want to update rows where the Status = Open and the Expire Date < The current Date by changing the Status to Closed then send an HTML email. Do I have to write a program and schedule it to run or is there a way to do this in MS SQL? I looked at using a stored procedure but I don’t see how to schedule one to run (other than at startup) and I’m not sure if the GETDATE function can be called.
Thanks for any help.
