there is a column which type is float in a table, i want to set the precision of its value, for example if its value is 10.333888, i want to get its value as 10.33, how to complete it in a select Sql?

Data is being trnasferred from an Oracle view to a SQL Server 2005 table.
Decimals can be previewed in the from the "SQL Command Text Window" but the columns in the target table which are defined as float shows the data being rounded to zero decimal places.
For the Data Source the always use default code page is selected.
Is there a way to retain the decimals?

I´m having some trouble converting values represented as strings to the decimal data type.
I have a flat file source, from where I read some currency rates represented without decimals.
Before sending those values to my SQL Server destination, I want to convert them to represent correct values.
An example to clarify:
If my source contains a column named "curr_rate" with the value 000092500 I want to send it
to my destination as 9,2500.
So I set up a Dervied column component, converting my value like so:
((DT_NUMERIC,9,4)curr_rate)/10000
My problems is that the precision is lost, and all that´s sent to my destination table is 9,0000.
How should I go about to convert my strings without losing precision in the process?

I've a SQL view performing a number of very precise calculations ie.495/(1.112 - (.00043499*((Col1 + Col2 + Col3))) + ( .00000055 * ((Col1+ Col2 + Col3)) * ((Col1 + Col2 + Col3))) - (.00028826 * Col4))) -450)/100Obviously this sometimes causes a precision issues because the floatand real datatypes don't hold precise values... My problem is thatconverting to the numeric or decimal datatype easily produces an errorif the precision is not big enough to hold the resulting output... Well in my asp.net intranet web application i want to enter a number to the database(sql sever 2005) that has a column(schoolkm) whose type is decimal(9, 2). Now if i want to enter the value 1.5 in the text box and enter that value to the database through interface then that value automatically rounds to 2. But when i get into the table and enter that value by hand then that value enters perfectly i.e. without rounding of. I want to know the reason and how can i cure this problem.

Nice easy one (hopefully) from a newbie on SQL 2000.
I have a table HolidayTakenBooked which is populated from a stored procedure via the following statement;
TRUNCATE TABLE HolidayTakenBooked
INSERT INTO HolidayTakenBooked
SELECT * FROM #TMP_HolidayTakenBooked ORDER BY ABR_Clock_No
I am finding that for certain values in the HolidayTakenBooked table decimals are not being transferred correctly. ie. 0.5 in the TMP table appears as 1 in the HolidayTakenBooked table.
I'm pretty sure that this is down to the data definition of the table see sample field below;
[HOL_DaysTaken1] [decimal](18, 0) NULL ,
So the simple question here is how do I define decimal places when I define a new table. When designing a new table in Enterprise Manager I select decimal and the server does not allow me to change the value of 9 it defaults to.
What simple thing I am not doing ?

I have a table with a column named measurement decimal(18,1). If the value is 2.0, I want the stored proc to return 2 but if the value is 2.5 I want the stored proc to return 2.5. So if the value after the decimal point is 0, I only want the stored proc to return the integer portion. Is there a sql function that I can use to determine what the fraction part of the decimal value is? In c#, I can use

I wanted to convert a dataset from vb.net (2.0) to an .XLS file, by MS Jet. My national standard is using decimal commas, not decimal points for numbers signing the beginning of decimal places.
But the MS Jet Engine uses decimal point,in default. Therefore, in the Excel file only string formatted cells can welcome this data, not number formatted.
How can I solve or get around this problem? (with jet if it possible)

I need to store decimal values: decimal(20,15) in my SQL Server 2005 database.
I load data from flat file, convert it using Data Conversion Task to decimal(with scale: 15) and try to save it using OLE DB Destination.
It works fine for 4 digits after the decimal (like 1.1234), but always failes for more than 4 digits (1.12345).
Is the decimal limited to scale 4 ???

I am having a file in which amount fields are given in a Packed Decimal format. Can anyone suggest me how I can read this data element from the file and convert it into SQL decimal datatype.
File is a fixed length. All the amount fields are given in Packed Decimal Format and rest of the fields are given in text format.
How can i identify and convert only those packed decimals using SQL/.Net.

I am sure this is a newbie question as I am new to Microsoft SQL server but any help is greatly appreciated. I am populating a SQL database from an AS400. The decimal numbers from the AS400 are coming accross with extra decimals. (ie. 63.02 is coming accross as 63.0200001)
Is there a way to limit the number of decimals in a float or real field - or a SQL command I can put in a script to truncate each field to 2 decimal places after they are populated.

The question I would like to ask you people has to do with numeric fields. What exactly is precision? Is it the maximum length in digits of a field, or is there more to it? What about a "field's scale", what is it and how does it affect a field's value handling?

I have a table with a 'quantity' column (decimal 9:3) and a 'price' column (9:3). I have a third column 'amount' with a formula of (price * quantity). The formula gives the correct answer, but the precision is automatically set to 5. Is there any way to set the precision of the result to 2?
