I'm a newbie to Reporting Services so please forgive my ignorance...
I've recently installed SQL Server Express 2005 with Reporting Services on my Vista Business Notebook (with no network connections) and have installed VS C# Express as well as the Business Intelligence Studio to create reports.
My C# application can connect to SQL Server fine, however, the reports I created with Business Studio refuses to deploy to the server due to the following reason:
"The permissions granted to user 'localhostJenny' are insufficient for
performing this operation".
I find this odd as I've been able to deploy reports on my other Windows XP machine (with SQL Server Express) no probs at all. Additionally, I cannot see the 'Site settings' link within Report Manager (Web) that I'd normally get with an admin account (i.e. on my Win. XP machine). Various sources indicate that my account has insufficient access rights to view this.
Having browsed through seemingly endless blogs and forums, I suspect that my local account has not been configured to access the Report Manager web client to publish, manage and administer the site.
I have tried the surface area tool for SQL Server, but I suspect that this is relevant only to SQL Server DB access and management. Adding an administrator here does nothing.
The question is, how can I grant access to myself (local account) to allow me to publish reports via business studio, and at the same time - administer Report Manager Site Settings - on my vista notebook??
I would be extremely grateful for any help on this matter - I've tried ceaseless reinstallations, but to no avail!

The DBA at our location is demanding local admin (windows) right's to the box so he can function. Right now when he logs in i have given him right's to the inetpub directory, sql directory, i have set him as a sysadmin on sql2005 and gone into the http:\localhost
eports and set him up as a system manager and under site priveledges set him as a sys admin. When he tries to login and configure the report server he gets the following error:
Title-Reporting services configuration manager
Error-There was an error refreshing the UI. bla bla bla
A WMI error has occurred and no additional error information is availiable

then when he's in sql server 2005 surface area configuation

Is there any documentation or anythign anyone can tell me that i can do to give this DBA full access to configure and admin the SQL portion of his system without giving him admin rights to the OS???

Has anyone tried Open File Manager to backup SQL 7? I'm in the middle of an evaluation (and all is going well), so I wanted to get other's opinions before I purchase.
I tried their 5.x product a year ago, and it didn't work. But V6 has been just what they toted (it worked, no questions asked).

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am using SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition and have created several reports, deployed them to SQL Server and tested them.
Everything works correctly, but when I open the Report Manager using localhost/Reports, the page takes several minutes to connect and open. I am doing this on a new laptop I use for development and testing, so I can see where it would be a little slow, but a few minutes seems extreme. I don't have any problem with SQL Server itself, nor with VS 2005.
Are there any tips or setup issues which might affect the startup speed?

After having installed my software at customer's I found out that it's impossible to open tables from Enteprise Manager (Query Designer error). I'm not sure it's because of my soft, but my clients are quite annoyed.
I have had this situation on my own server , and the only thing I could do was to reinstall the server.
Any other ideas? And what is the origin for this error?

When do right click on the table in SQL EM and select Open Table | Return all rows, get Error:
An unexpected error happened during this operation. [Query]- Query Designer encountered a query error: unspecified error.
It's happening on all tables, all databases, all protocols, all servers, on 2(!) of 3 installations of SQL EM. I can successfully run Select in Query Analyser against the same servers/dababases.
Today is the first day it started. I cannot recall anything particular I've done on Friday that can cause this.

I recently installed SQL 2000, runing on a Win2000 Server. If I try to use Enterprise Manager to open a table using the return rows command, I get the following error
"An unpected error happened during this operation"
Reinstalling the client Tools has not helped.
Any help would be appreciated.
After I installed MSDE, I cannot open QA from Enterprise Manager - error message says: the specified file was not found. Any ideas anybody?

Hello, when I log onto Report Manager web server using Windows Authentication, I need this user to be directed to a default sub folder.
For example: if I have folder A and sub folder 1 and 2. I need to be able to log in and be directed to sub folder 1. I was able to set up view role and access folder A. But then I need to click on folder 1 to view / create my reports.
I was using Windows 7 and had SSRS 2014 installed.Having set up the inbound rule on Windows Firewall (port 80), to allow SSRS through, I was able to browse to the Report Manager URL, by opening up Internet Explorer as 'Administrator'..
However, now that I have upgraded to Windows 10, I am unable to open the URL.In fact there is now way for me to open Edge as administrator and open my Report Manager URL.

I've a slight problem with configuring my Report Server. I have set up everything apart from the initialisation and and the Windows Service Identity, however when I select the panel for the latter I am presented with a message box displaying the following:

I have tried re-installing the entire SQL server setup and this made no difference, I followed this by removing then reinstalling just the Report Service. Still nothing.

I am running Windows XP Pro SP2. I have installed the SQL Native Client for
XP. However, when I try to add a new data source through ODBC Connection
Manager, SQL Native Client is not listed as an option. I have followed this procedure on three other systems with no problems. What would be causing the

I could solve this by giving the logged in windows user to impersonate under IIS window > WEBSITE > ASP.NET tab > EDIT CONFIG > APPLICATION tab

I got an approach like that:
1) Read something from DB - check the value, if true stop if false go on2) Read the second Value (another SQL Statement) - check the value etc.
Now I could open the connection at 1) and if I have to go to 2) I leave the connection open and use the same connection at 2). Is it ok to do that?
The other scenario would be opening a connection at 1), immediately close it after I read the value and open a new connection at 2).

Post installation of SQL Server 2014 Express edition, I am able to connect to the Database Instance.
But while opening a new query window in SSMS or opening a table getting the error:

A user was created with a limited privilege under the USERS group. Once this user loged in the Report Manager he is acting like an Admin and Content Manager, though he is not given even a browser role.
What do u think that this guy is acting like a Super User evenif he is restricted to a browser role on the Report Manager ????????????

The part that I'm stuck on is how to login within the proc so that the user(not sa) can exec the sp_password as sa without having to give the user sa rights. I don't mind hard coding the sa password with the proc but I can not give sa password to the users. Do I need to somehow alter sp_password for this to work?

Need to give a user permission to add logins and users to a database. Have tries to alias the user to DBO but it doesnt work. Is there a way to do it other than reassigning DBO permissions to the user.

Is there a way in SQL server to grant "SA" rights to non-SA users for certain commands.
I know there's a way to do this in Sybase by creating a password protected role and then activating it within a stored procedure.
Thus, the specific right is only active for the brief duration of the stored procedure - which runs the particular command to be granted. The role is de-activated at the end of the stored procedure.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Now I go and add/install theServer component and then Service Pack 3a.It seems that Service Manager won't start up (I get an hourglass cursor)and now I find that Enterprise Manager won't run as well. Ok, look. I could sit here and ask about 1,000 different queries that I would like to have. I'd much rather prefer to find it on my own however. Could someone please recommend a book that will tell me all I need to know about performing different kinds of queries? I have limited Mysql, JavaDB experience. A beginner compared to most of you.
