How To Set The Path To The Reports Snapshots Folder?

Mar 15, 2007

We have a statutory requirement to keep 5 years of history, so I've checked the option in the Site Settings page in the Report Manager to "Keep an unlimited number of snapshots in report history". The drives are partitioned as follows:

C: -- OS; 20GB

D: -- Apps; 20GB

E: --Data: 160GB

I want to force the report history snapshots onto the data (E:) drive, but I can't figure out what setting will force them there. Can anyone tell me how to set the path to the reports snapshots folder?

Copy Reports From Other Users My Reports Folder

Aug 7, 2007

Is there a way to copy reports from other users "My reports" folder? I am logging onto the management studio reporting services using an administrative account and I am able to view the reports from all users' "My Reports" folder. But I am not able to export them as an rdl file. I am able to export reports from other common folders, but not from the "My Reports" folder.

The reason I need to do this is some of the users have created some reports in one environment and the reports are available in their respective "My Reports" folder. I need to move these reports to their corresponding "My Reports" folder in another environment.

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks for your help.

config.dtxconfig contains path as config value for source c:folderfilesourc.txt.and for destination c:folderfiledest.txt

Usual way to check if file exists

DECLARE @File_Exists INT
EXEC Master.dbo.xp_fileexist 'serverBSQL_Backupfile.bak', @File_Exists OUT

And if check folder, can use "nul", but it doesn't work for UNC path

If use xp_subdirs like:

If the folder doesn't exists,

Msg 22006, Level 16, State 1, Line 3

SQL Server 2008 :: Unable To Create Folder If Present Already In A Share Path

Jun 1, 2015

I'm, using my script to many location to create folder to save output files and if the folder is removed/not present it can create it without any noise. But the problem is, while I use the same sort of script to check if a folder is present in the sharedpath it will not create it to copy all bkp files from local to remote path works good, but if you delete the folder or rename the exisitng folder and if the below script tries to create the folder it created as "fILE", very interesting. Per IT team they have given SQL Server account the full rights to create/delete/alter folder/files.

Do I need to use seperate script or way to create / alter folders in the sharepath?

declare @rc int, @dir nvarchar(4000)

Reporting Services :: RDLs Present In SSRS Folder Path But Not Visible In Report Viewer URL?

I have an issue as to where only some reports are visible within Report Viewer url. But if I navigate to the path of the rdl's there are many more present that should be visible through Report Viewer. The client was recently upgraded, and I seem to have all out of box roles and permission levels yet can only see some of those reports, as if some were manually copied to this folder location at a later point and perhaps some user job needs to be run to reflect import those additional rdl's?

Not All The Reports Are Delivered To The Shared Folder

Nov 5, 2007

Hi All,

I'm delivering some reports through data driven to a shared folder in another computer in my network. In report manager, under status, it shows the following message.

Processing: 10 processed of 12 total; 0 errors.

When I chek in the folder, I can see sometimes only 6 reports. I rescheduled and run it again. Then I could see only 10 out of 12 reports.

I opened the Management Studio and tried to refreshed the report subscription under subscription. Then I got the following error message.

How To Use Relative Path For Links In Reports While Using URL Access?

Apr 23, 2007

Dear Sirs,

We use NLB + ISA , Win2003/SP1 + Reporting Services 2005

We use host name URL to access Reporting Serives reports, like http://www.hostname.com/Reportserver?rc%3aParameters=false&%2MyReports%2f....

When reports have grouping , the drill down images(+/-) and links failed to be displayed. We checked the HTML source code and found, instead of the reative path, the image/link URLs are using FULL path and using IP address, like http://10.102.40.55/Reportserver/.....

Because the company policy do not allow use IP to access reports , those drill down images and links failed to be displayed.

How can I configure Reporting Service to use host name or relative path for the drill down images and links.

PS:

We have changed the <UrlRoot> in rsreportserver.config and <ReportServerUrl> in rsWebApplication.config to use host name, but no worked.

Best regards,

Roger (roger_lo@gss.com.tw)

Inheritance Of Security Role In Folder Structure Of Reports

May 16, 2007

Hi,
I have a folder structure of reports like this
Home
|
/
A B

Now, suppose I have created this folder, A first and user, say A_User is given permission to view this folder. I am expecting this user to browse from 'Home' to A folder but as you know to browse folder 'Home' he must also be added to 'Home' folder . So I add him to 'Home' now.

The problem comes when I add new folder B, for user B_User. The moment I add this folder A_User is also added to folder B because of the inheritance of users to child folders.
So user A is able to see both A and B folder....and thats my problem, he is supposed to only A folder and not B

Is there any way to disable this inheritance feature ??
I tried deleting A_User from B with a script using "InheritParentSecurity" method of ReportingService but it says that it can not delete inherited users.

How can I fix the problem ? without need to manually delete users from folders ??/

thanks

prashant

during period of troubles connecting to Local Servers and Sites location i.e., to [URL], the place where all Reports are saved by default, I have continued to work on some Reports that have been saved to file system of my localhost/developing machine. But, upon recovery of http location, I can not see/open those files?

how to approach those files in order to open them in Report Builder 3.0 and thus, to "save as" them to the http location? Seems that Report Builder has chosen that location, by default, somehow.....

Unable To Copy App_data Folder Databases On Production Server To A Different Folder Or Location

Sep 19, 2007

I dont alot about sql server 2005(Express edition). For debugging purposes i want to copy the whole app_data folder(.mdf & .log files) on the production server to another folder on the same machine(or sometimes to a network folder). So when i copy and try to paste this App_data folder to a new location, i get this error message
"cannot copy ASPNETDB: it is being used by another person or program. close any programs that might be using the file and try again."
After reading the above message, i close visual web developer, stop the website in IIS and stop the SQLExpress service on the server and try again but still get the same message.
So how can i make sure that all the programs accessing these database files are closed such that i'm able able to copy them to a different location.

Integration Services :: SSIS WMI Event Watcher Check For New Folder In Existing Folder

Jul 2, 2015

I know a WMI event watcher can be used to watch for a new file being added to a folder. However, I need to check for new folders being added to an existing folder. I haven't been able to find a post on doing this. Is there a way in WQL to check for a new folder being added instead of a new file? I've used SQL for years, but am new to SSIS.

SSIS Or SQl Agent Job Moving From A Network Folder To A Sharepoint Folder - Errors...

Oct 31, 2007

Ok,

I have a network folder called A

I have a SharePoint (2007) Document Library site called B. Web Client is enabled on the server and B is mapped as a Drive (let's call it Y for this discussion)

I want to move documents in A to B. Easy enough, right? Not so....

I first started by creating a batch file that issues a COPY \A \Y /Y at the command prompt. Viola! Worked Great!

I then moved that command to a SQL Agent job as a CMDExec statement (exact same statement) and attempted to run it.....CRASH! It found the files in A but then said "The system cannot find the path specified"

Ok, so I tried it in SSIS. CRASH! Checked the error log. Same thing...

So I then checked the account under which the SQl Agent was running (special domain account for all our SQL Servers). Thinking it might mater I changed it to run under my name (I'm in Domain admin). I also ensured I had permissions to the SPS 2007 library as well. (I did).

Ran again! CRASH! Same error....

So, I created a batch file , placed thec ommand in the batch file and ran that from the command prompt! Viola! Worked Great.

So, I was thinking of how ingenious I was as I pasted my C:RootCopy.bat into my SQL Agent job. With a big grin on my face I right clicked and picked "Start Job at step".......CRASH! Same error.

Does anyone have any ideas on this ???????????????

Thanks,
Stephen

Subject: BCM Install Error - Logfile && SQL Path Path && MSSQL.1?

Apr 16, 2008

When trying to install Business Contact Manager (BCM) for Outlook 2007, the setup failed and I was refered to a log file in my Local Settings/Temp folder. The log actually says that Business Contact Manager was installed sucessfully! BCM is supposed to install SQL Express 2005 as an instance or as instance if SQL Express is already installed. There is an MSSMLBIZ instance in Services..

Who can I send the Log File to for analysis and the fix feedback?

When I first went into Computer Management and clicked on Services and Applications in the left panel, the error message appeared "Snap-in failed to intialize. Name: SQL Server Configuration Manager CLSID:{CA9F8727-31DF-41D2-975C-887D84903967} This message diappeared when I clicked on Services and Applications again. Under Services, there are 3 SQL services - one is an application that was uninstalled 3-4 weeks ago and I disabled this service. The other 2 are: SQL Server (MSSMLBIZ) and the other one is SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) When I tried to start either of the last 2, the message appeared: Services "Could not start the SQL Server (MSSMLBIZ) service on Local Computer. Error 3: The system cannot find the path specified. Under Program Files/Microsoft SQL Server/MSSGL.1 folder is mostly empty. So, it seems like the Path in the Registry is not valid and that nothing is being installed in the MSSQL.1 folder. If so, how do I fix this?

How do I get the BCM SQL instance to install and run properly? what do the messages in Services mean and how do I resolve these.

Thank you!

Gary

Can I Use The Foreach Loop To Obtain The Sub Folder Names Within A Folder?

Sep 4, 2006

I have a set of folders with the following structure:

MainFolder

1999

SpreadsheetA.xls

SpreadsheetB.xls

SpreadsheetC.xls

2000

SpreadsheetA.xls

SpreadsheetB.xls

SpreadsheetC.xls

etc.

Is there a way that I can use the foreach loop container to loop the sub folders? My plan was to get the folder name and path into a variable, use this to build the connection string for each file in this folder, carry out the upload for that folder, then move onto the next folder and do the same thing, but I cannot see a way to do this.

Thanks,

Sam

Moving Csv File From One Folder To Another Folder

Mar 28, 2008

I am having problem with moving a file from one folder to another folder. Here is the detailed scenario:

I want to move a input.csv file from shared input folder to shared archive folder. i am using the below code to do this.
declare @inpath varchar(100)
SET @inpath = 'move "\abcdefINPUTinput*.csv" "\abcdefARCHIVEarchive.csv"'
EXEC @filestatus = master..xp_cmdshell @inpath
but the problem was it was cutting the input.csv file from INPUT folder but not pasting it in the ARCHIVE folder.
I really appreciate if anyone can help me to solve this or anyone can tell some workarounds.

Thanks,

Using SAN Snapshots For Backups

Jul 13, 2005

We will soon be going to a new ERP system using MS SQL 2000. I'm looking into possible backup strategies. The database size will be about 50 Gigs.

We have a SAN, which the new ERP system will be backed up on. I know a little about a SAN, but I need to make decisions about the types of backups to make. We can have 10 active snapshots, so I could use snapshots during the day as a point in time backup. I could also use the SAN snapshot instead of using a full backup. Would it be safe to use the SAN snapshots instead of the normal SQL Server backups? I’m not sure how long it will take to do a full SQL Server backup because the server is still in testing mode. I’m not getting the big picture about when to use snapshots and when to use regular SQL Server backups.

Is it possible in Windows 2000 Server to stop the transactions and flush the buffers for a few seconds to do a snapshot? From what I understand, the database could be left in a suspect state if you use snapshots to restore a database.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Mirroring & Snapshots?

May 16, 2008

I think I've read some conflicting advice in BOL. Maybe someone can clarify it for me.

Under "Database Mirroring and Database Snapshots" it says:
"You can take advantage of a mirror database that you are maintaining for availability purposes to offload reporting. To use a mirror database for reporting, you can create a database snapshots on the mirror database and direct client connection requests to the most recent snapshot"

To my mind, to enjoy a noteworthy performance gain, that mirror database would need to be on another server.

But then you read under "Database Snapshots":
"Multiple snapshots can exist on a source database and always reside on the same server instance as the database."

So how do you get the snapshot to the mirror?

Snapshots And Reverts

Nov 9, 2007

HiWhat would be the quickest way to create a backup and revert programon an sql (2000) database?- Can you create a transaction on a database, regardless of theconnections and thenrollback it all via an external program- Could you monitor the changes with profiler and then reverse those?- If desperate, could you backup the db from a tool and then restoreit? (too slow to be practical?)Not sure how to do this so any offers would be appreciatedta
