How To Specify Failover Using Enterprise Library Data Access Block

We are expanding an application's database hardware to have a mirrored failover server. Normally in this case we just have the application add "Failover Partner=MirredServerName" in the connection string.
However, this application is using the Enterprise Library Data Access Block and we can't find any documentation describing how to setup the Failover Partner using this library. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm trying to use the Data Access Application block, and am having some issues with configuration. I am using it in a class library, and it seems that with v 3 you need to configure the DAAB first, making changes to the configuration file. However, in a class library, I do not seem to have the web.config or app.config file to change. So where do I need to store the configuration settings?

I am trying to find a solution to my woes creating CLR activation stored procedure that references Enterprise library data access dlls. Does anyone know best practices to deploy .NET 2.0 assemblies as SQLCLR. I am using VS2005 SqlClrProject to deploy my .NET 2.0 assemblies to Sql Server and it fails with error such as "Assembly was not found in the sql catalog". If I manually try to load a referenced assembly within SqlServer by browsing to the target location, like for example, System.Management.dll it fails with similar error, trying to resolve its dependencies. Even if I manage to walk through the dependency tree and resolve it to the final dependent dll, I am only able to load it in "UNSAFE" mode. Any recommendations, suggestions and feedback are welcome.

I know that the Moblie Client Softvare Factory was included a DAAB, but it is outdated in some respect.

Using Ent. Library Jan. 2006 release and .Net Framework 2.0, I'm connecting to SQL Server 2000 using Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Data.Sql.
I have a windows service that processes jobs asynchronously and from time to time, I'm getting the following error --
"A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (TCP Provider error: 0 - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. "
What's surprising is the error message saying SQL Server 2005. Has anyone encountered and resolved this?

I download the DAAB CF version. However, most of them use SQLCEClient to connect to the database. Is there any DAAB that use SQLClient?
One workaround that I made is I replaced all SQLCEClient objects with the SQLClient objects. I only test one method "ExecuteDataset" and it works so far. However, my question is "does my workaround a good solution?"

I am trying to execute oracle procedure (anonymous block) with input and output parameters from ms sql code and return 2 values back:a number and a string.I am using **EXEC() AT** to execute oracle code and return a string back to ms sql. It works fine when returning numbers, but if I add a string output parameter, I am receiving an error:Msg 0, Level 11, State 0, Line 0...A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.
The server log has the following entry in exception.txt:
Exception 0xc0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 00000005031C07E0 at 0x0000000070F9C183
There is also a SQLDump file generated:

It looks like the problem is in passing varchar2 from oracle into ms sql. I had logging code in oracle block, and it works fine. I have found a few examples of using **exec() at** but there is always only integer output passed back.

I'm trying to use SQL Server Everywhere with the Enterprise Library data access block. If I manually create a GenericDatabase using the SSev database provider it works fine, but I want to be able to use the DatabaseFactory.CreateDatabase method so it's all handled by the configuration in app.config.
When I do I get an exception. "Failed to find or load the registered .Net Framework Data Provider." within the ObjectBuilder code.
Does anyone have this combination working?

I have downloaded Microsoft Enterprise Library 2005 from microsoft.com. I am trying implement Data Access Layer with visual studio 2003. I am able to access some functions of the DAL but I am not able to establish connection with SQL Server 2000.

I need to run a script in production that adds primary key to a table. Because table is large, I can't run it in one shot, the log file is not so large to accommodate it. Instead, I created a new table with same structure plus new surrogate primary key, and I populate it in a cursor loop.
I already ran it many times in test server, and no problems with that. But the problem will be in production when applications will be accessing this table and try to insert/update it while I am running my loop.
So I am looking for a solution how to block users to access this table, it's OK if they receive an error. Setting database to single user mode will not work because I don't want to block them from all the rest tables in this database.

I have the following stored procedure to test scope of variables

In the above script @i is declare in the if block only when the @pcntr value is 1. Assume the above stored procedure is called 5 times from this script

As i said earlier `@i` variable exists only when `@pcntr` is `1`. Therefore when i call the stored procedure for the second time and so forth the control cannot enter the if block therefore @i variable wouldn't even exist. But the script prints the value in `@i` in each iteration, How comes this is possible should it throw an error saying `@i` variable does not exist when `@pcntr` values is greater than `1`?

Hello everybody,
I'am currently testing a MSSQL 2005 mirroring implementation with automatically failover.
1 principal server ====> Server A
1 mirror server ====> Server B
1 witness server ====> Server C
When server A fails Server B becomes Principal. ( which is the general idea ) This is working perfectly.
The problem is when i try to connect to the mirror Server B ( actually the new principal )
I use the .NET connection string with the failover parameter ( even without the parameter ) the connection fails.
( the general error : unable to connect, or connection property has not been initialized )
Data Source=ServerA; Failover Partner=ServerB;Initial Catalog=DBMTest;uid=dbuser;pwd=dbpassword;
This connection property works fine when server A (original principal) is online.
When i run the SQL profiler with the mirror db as profile, i dont see the traffic.
So you think the mirror server has a network problem or was not connfigured for remote access.
i thought that also, but when i create a 'stand alone - non mirrored' database the same application with the same connetion string ( well.....different db) works fine.
The problem must be in the whole mirroring implementation....... ( my idea )
Does anyone had the same problem, or better, doed anyone know how to solve it?

We have set up Mirroring with a witness server and everything works fine when we failover from the SQL Management console.
However, if we failover when our Maccola client is connected, the client blows up - clearly because it can no longer connect to the database.
The ODBC DSN used by the Maccola client shows a checkbox for the 'select a failover server' but the checkbox is grayed out.
Also the summary of settings for the DSN at the end of the wizard reveals that the failover to server (y/N) option is set to N.
The default setting for this DSN is 'populate the remaining values by querying the server' but it doesn't appear to be getting the settings for failover from the server or any other interactive DSN settings either. The server is clearly set for mirroring.
Another suspicious item is that the DSN cannot connect to the server with SA permissions, even though the server is set to mixed security and we use the correct authentication.
Is it possible that the client MACHINE is not authenticating with the domain or sql server properly. We are logged into the client with the domain account that is the SQL admin account on the sql server box.
We should be able to interact with the sql server settings through the ODBC DSN on the client shoulnd't we?
Are we missing a service pack on the client?

I have a SSRS report that uses a custom library. The custom library returns a string values, and I have tested this with a windows application.In the SSRS report. I have set the expression value for a text box as =CodeReportingLibrary.CodeReportingFunctions.GetImage(1232)
However, when i preview the report the text box value shows as #ERROR. I checked the error list and I get a warning message : Warning 1 [rsRuntime ErrorIn Expression] The Value expression for the textrun ‘Textbox5.Paragraphs[0].TextRuns[0]’ contains an error: Attempt by security transparent method 'CodeReportingLibrary.CodeReportingFunctions.GetReferenceImage(Int32)' to access security critical method 'Microsoft. TeamFoundation. Client. TfsTeamProjectCollection..ctor(System.Uri)' failed. Assembly 'CodeReportingLibrary, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' is partially trusted, which causes the CLR to make it entirely security transparent regardless of any transparency annotations in the assembly itself. In order to access security critical code, this assembly must be fully trusted.
I have updated the rssrvpolicy.config in ReportServer folder, to include my custom dll.

I was working for 2 days on integrating reporting services with MOSS 2007.
The problem i faces was to create a data source for the
uploaded report (Not created using a wizard ) that will connect

As i clicked on the arrow near the uploaded report to manage the data source, i found no
data source for this item.

In SQL Server 2014, how big for the block size is better for performance? 64 KB? 4 KB?
For normal database files, best practise is 64 KB disk block size. Not sure if it is same for memory-optimized filegroup.

in order for them to develop code for the user.
Is the above a good reason to give out to the user the Enterprise Manager
tools?

I'm not a developer and would like your input to compare against what a sales rep is telling me.
I'm managing a small web project that will have a database with a max of 20,000 records with less than 50 field each. It will be hit by anything from 200 to 500 people in a day (max) via Internet connection from all over with all sorts of speed.
The users will select less than 50 filters to obtain the results of the info they are looking for among the 20000 records. Most users will only choose less than 10 filters per search.
That's all that the database will do...seems to me enterprise is way too much, but since I'm not expert, need one of you to help with your input.

Hi guys,
I want to give someone read only permission to our SQL server so they can log in and look at the database structure and query a few tables. I've set up the user but the problem is that when I connect in SQL server remotley, it shows all the other DB's on the server even though it is restricting access to them. Can these other DB's be hidden so that only the DB the user has access to shows up?

I've searched around google & here and can't find a solution.
I can connect to my database via a connection string on the web server
but cannot connect via Enterprise Manager or just by ODBC connection on
my local machine.
I can ping the server fine and switched off my XP firewall & my router firewall, port 1433 is also open.
Someone has tested this from another machine and it works fine (cheers).
What else can I try, this is driving me insane!

I have a user who has created several SQL7 databases and uses a VB app which schedules jobs (under the sa account) on the SQL server. How can I allow this user to view scheduled jobs on the server ? I don't want to give him too many priviledges.
