Reporting Services :: Parsing SSRS Config File And Dynamically Changing File Path Of Config File In Code
Sep 2, 2015Currently have a single hard coded file path to the SSRS config file which parses the file and provides the reporting services web service url. My question is how would i run this same query against 100s of servers that may or may not share the same file path as the one hard coded ?
Is there a way to query the registry to find the location of the config file of any server ? which could be on D, E, F, H, etc.
I know I can string together the address followed by "reports" and named instance if needed, but some instances may not have used the default virtual directory name (Reports).
Am I going about this the hard way ? Is there a location where the web service url exists in a table ? I could not locate anything in the Reporting service database. Basically need to inventory all of my reporting services url's.
Error With Execute DTS 2000 Package Task On 64-bit With 32-bit Exec

I am running a package on a 64-bit server using the 32-bit dtexec. It contains an embedded Execute DTS 2000 package. I deployed the package to the server using the sa account. I set up a SQL Agent job that runs under an account that should have complete admin privileges. The network guys tell me that Legacy components have been installed (although I believe that shouldn't be necessary because SSIS is installed). This is SQL Server 2005, SP2.
When I execute this job, I receive this error message:

Import Package W/Config File?
Oct 8, 2007I have manually imported my packages into SSIS (via StoredPackages/FileSystem/Import Package command). How can I utilize a ConfigFile with this package? I see that the ConfigFile can be selected when it is run (in dtexecUI ), but it doesn't "stick", and is only used for that particular run.
How can I point this manually imported package to the ConfigFile so everybody who runs it doesn't have to browse for the ConfigFile every time they run it?
EXEC SQL TASK To FLAT FILE - Questions

I have a FOREACHLOOP container that contains an EXECUTE SQL TASK. The EXECUTE SQL TASK is executing a list of stored procedures from a table. This part is working.
However, I now need to send the output of each stored stored procedure to a flat file.
I dropped a DATA FLOW task inside the FOREACHLOOP container, and then created an OLEDB source and FLAT FILE destination on the Data Flow tab.
However, I'm not sure how this is going to work. When I click on the OLEDB source, Connection Manager, I thought I should select the Data Access Mode as SQL Command from variable. Then select the variable name.
But I get this error when I try to save:
Error at Data Flow Task [OLE DB Source [42]]:SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E0C
An OLE DB Recored is available. Source: blah
"Command text was not set for the command object"
What to do??

Package Not Picking Up Latest Config File Changes

I've created a solution with 5 packages in. I've scripted a config file for each package where I would be able to change the source file connection and the database servers (source and destination). On the first package, I am able to change the config attributes and the affects are picked up, but the rest of the packages do no pick up the changes.
For example, if the source file is "C:Filessource.txt" and this is changed to "C:Filessource123.txt" (Just to make sure it fails) it wont pick up the new changes and still uses "C:Filessource.txt".
Also, I tried changing the name of config file itself and the package still ran as if nothing had changed. It's as if it's not recognising the config file.
Any ideas ?

How To Specify Config File For Package Within A Package
Jan 17, 2007I have a situation where I have Package A, which is called from Package B. Both packages have been designed to use config files for their connections, etc.
The issues arises when executing Package B. I can specify a config for Package B to use, but how do I tell the embedded package to use its correct config file?
By default, Package A has its config file pointed to development, but I would rather not have to save a special version of Package A that points to production.
I dont see any option within the execute package task.
Any ideas???

I am working on a project currently where we have many SSIS packages and we want to minimize the number of config files to be used. What I was thinking was using one master config file which will have Server/Database info which will be used by all the packages. Now the thing is there are multiple packages which are being executed from within a master package and I was wondering if this will be an issue. Is there anything else that I will have to keep in mind? Any help is appreciated.

Difficulty In Referencing DLLs From Script Task/component When The DLL Relies On A Config File

Hello,
Kind of a .Net question, although specifically related to VSA.
We have a script task that references an external DLL. That DLL is a proxy for a web service and it takes its configuration info (e.g. location of the web service) from a configuration file.
We have created a quick-and dirty test harness exe to consume data using the proxy and it works fine. All you need to do is dump the proxy, the config file and the test harness exe into a folder.
This doesn't work so well when you substitute SSIS for the test harness. We are trying to use a script task which references the proxy DLL to get a response from the web service but when we execute we get:
"Cannot find default endpoint element that references contract 'blah blah blah' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application..."

This makes sense of course, right? The DLL needs the config file. However, where do you put the config file so that the DLL (which, remember, is running inside SSIS) can find it? We've tried putting it in the same folder as the .dtsx file, in the same folder as dtexec.exe...nothing works.
To try and debug we put the following code into the script task:

Config File Already Exists Error While Building SSIS Package

While trying to build SSIS Package Project, the following error is thrown. I have added configuration file recently to fetch the dynamic values such as connection string, output path etc.
I tried manually cleaned up the debug folder and tried build but still the error occurs.
Can any one help in suppressing this error?

Exec SSIS Package Based On A File Existence
May 13, 2008I am not sure if we can execute SSIS package using t-sql, but I want to do the following:
Step1. Execute SSIS package1
Step2. Check for the file1.txt in c drive using the below code:

Execute SSIS package2

I supplied sa credentials to connection manager, and it shows the list of Packages on SQL Server but when running the task it says
Error 0xC0202009 while preparing to load the package. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x%1!8.8X!.

What's The Best Practice...1 Package Many Config Or Many Package W/1 Config

I'd like to know what's considered a best practice in the following scenario...
We're in the process of converting DTS to SSIS, our current SQL2K setup has one DTS package per database, each database and package are mirror images of each other, with the exception of connection properties and the files path's they pull from. (Occasionally there may be a one off Execute SQL Task that differs from package to package...but this will be handled in a different manner outside of the package from this point on)
From a administration perspective this has been somewhat cumbersome, as every time there is a schema change we need to update the transformations in each individual package...after updating 120 packages my index finger has a bad case of carpel tunnel!
My thought with SSIS is that I can create one package, with many configuration files (one for each database).
Now my question is, 1) is this a good idea? 2) Anytime we create a new database (New Customer = New Database) and need to create a new xml config file, do I have to create the config in BIS/SSIS package then redeploy the package?...or Can I simply add a new config file to the appropriate directory and reference this config in the scheduled job?
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Dec 14, 2006This problem is a bit weird but I'm just wondering if anybody else experienced this.
I have a package that has file system tasks (copying dtsx files actually). Basically the package copies other packages to a pre-defined destination. Thing is, it only works if one of the packages it is configured to copy has some sort of sensitive data (e.g., a connectionstring with a password), otherwise it reports a success message on execution but doesn't actually do anything. I've checked the forcedexecutionresult and it is set to None for that matter.
Just wondering if anybody else experienced this problem and of course if there's a way to solve it.

EXEC SQL Task
Nov 9, 2007Hello, I am very, very new to the world of SSIS and from a totally different platform (iSeries), learning, digging and finding golden nuggets as I go.
Two questions please.
Question One:
I am presently encountering the following exception.
SSIS package "DW.CUST_CNCL_ORD.dtsx" starting.
Error: 0xC00291E2 at BP Parter Exec SQL, Execute SQL Task: There is an invalid number of result bindings returned for the ResultSetType: "ResultSetType_Rowset".
Task failed: BP Parter Exec SQL
Warning: 0x80019002 at DW CUST_CNCL_ORD: The Execution method succeeded, but the number of errors raised (1) reached the maximum allowed (1); resulting in failure. This occurs when the number of errors reaches the number specified in MaximumErrorCount. Change the MaximumErrorCount or fix the errors.
SSIS package "DW.CUST_CNCL_ORD.dtsx" finished: Failure.
Try as I do to find information regarding this exception, I am not able to. Can anyone share their wisdom on this topic?
Question two:
Is there a book that you may recommend that will contribute to my learning this new platform and evironment? I presently have the SQL Server 2005 integration services book.

Config File Path Not Being Updated In The Dtsx File While Deployment

I experienced a weird error while deploying my SSIS package. After running the manifest file, i noticed that one of the configuration file's path was not updated in the dtsx file. My solution has 8 packages and almost every package has 2 configuration files. Except 1 file every other config file's path is being updated. Has anybody experieced such a problem?

Problem Exec SP With Parameters In SQL Task

I am trying to use an Execute SQL Task to execute a stored procedure with parameters in SSIS but it keeps giving me errors, for example I type in 'exec someproc ?, ?, ?' in SQL Task it wouldnt parse correctly and when I set the bypassPrepare to 'true' the package runs but gives me error at the destination saying couldnt find stored procedure 'someProc'.
Does anybody know how I can solve this problem?
Also how do I pass the results of the queries in the Execute SQL Task into the Data Flow Task? The proc is supposed to retrieve data and transform them into XML format to be placed at a XML file. I am not sure if I should used an OLEDB source or an XML source since the data has been transformed into XML. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Wierd XML Results From 'Exec SQL Task

We are trying to extract data from a SQL database in XML format to a variable (string) using an 'Execute SQL Task'
In the task we are using an ADO.NET connection to the database which is fine and via direct input we are using this query.

I setup the query as a stored procedure and changed the SSIS accordingly. Running the sp from within SSMS was fine but the task still returned the wierd results.
This is completely unexpected and giving us headaches. It doesn't even look like well-formed XML to my eyes and won't display in IE without showing problems! Where are the eroneous /'s and ROOT nodes coming from?
I can't imagine we are the only people to have run into this and I'm sure we aren't doing something quite right - just stuck as to what we're doing wrong.

On my Execute Process task I have User::gvAppServer as my StandardInputVariable but when I execute the task I get

Exec SQL Task (stored Procedures)

Can anyone tell me how to pass parameters from one exec sql task to other ?... (I used stored proc in 1st exec sql task) and passed input parameter (default value set using a variable A) and stored the output parameter value in another variable B.
In the 2nd exec sql task , I passed the output param ( value of B) and doing insert into table xyz...
I get errors (in passing int and string values) . I tried using ole-db as well as ado.net.
Kindly give sample example.

Hi all,
Here's is the situation :
I have a script component that uses the aspnet membership provider to create users from a csv file in an aspnetdb database. In my Business Intelligence Developpement Studio (BIDS) everything works well. I added the aspnet membership provider in DtsDebugHost.exe.config and when I run the package from the BIDS it does what it have to do.
The problems begin when I deploy the package in file system as well as in sql server. When I run it doesn't use the DTExec.exe.config to find where are added the membership provider.

When I run the package from SQL Server it should use the DTExec.exe.config as an app.config for my script component. But it doesn't use it at all and stop with an error that have nothing to do with that. I'm sure that it doesn't use because even when I have a wrong DTExec.exe.config it shows the same error.
If some one knows something about that it will be really great. I need to force my package when it's in stored packages to use one of the *.config as an app.config file.

I have built an SSIS package by using the BI Dev Studio and enabled its configuration xml file.
The package have a variable called TranDate and I want to put it dynamically from a Calendar on my website (just like assigning a variable).
I have successfully change the value of that variable in the configuration files (affected to the xml file).
Then I loaded the package and executed it (through my web). It's still get the old value (which I have assigned while creating the package).
I didn't understand that where else can the package get the value of that variable so it still get the old value (that value have never appeared in the xml configuration file anymore when I changed it).

Sep 19, 2007I have a package that executes 3 other packages in it. From the command line I pass in which config file to use (just contains db/seerver) does this setting get carried over into the child packages as well?

Mar 10, 2003I built a new server from our production server. I had to modify several DTS Packages that were pointing to the old server. I successfully tested them in Enterprise Manager. When the jobs that executed these packages ran, they failed. I realized that the job was still executing the wrong version of the package.
The jobs were executing what appears to be a GUID. Once I changed the GUID value, the jobs run fine.
My question is, how can I run the steps for the DTS packages using a named reference? Is there a different/better way to run them?

Exec Proc From DTS Package

I'm trying to execute a Proc from DTS Package and it is rasing an error 'Invalid Pointer'.
This Proc is used to get a result set and I want to transfer this result set into a Excel File and that Excel File is to be sent to my client by Email.
Every thing was fine....but can some one suggest why I'am getting this error 'Invalid Pointer'.
