iam having vs2005 installed on my machine and i also installed sqlserver2005 dev edition on my machine...Now iam devloping a Window Appplication in which I need to populate a grid from Sqlserver2000 (dev edition) which installed on remote (i.e another network)....when i try to run my application it gives me a error tht "Unable to connect to sqlserver2005".actaully i specified in my connection string to connect to Sqlserver2000 on the remote machine.
I feel to know how to enable remote connection on Sqlserver 2000.So tht i can access this sqlserver2000 from another machine

Dec 29, 2006This may be simple, I just want to tranfer about 15 columns of data into another table on the same database. The receiving database is empty, but has different column names. I'm guess I have to make sure the data type can hold the information being transfered. I'm using SQl Server 2005. Please help.

Unable To Tranfer Jobs From Sql2000 To Sql2005

Im in the process of upgrading my sqlserver 2000 to 2005.I want to migrate all the jobs from sql2000 to 2005.
I scripted the job (right click job--->all tasks--->generate sqlscript).
I ran the same script on sql2005,i was getting an error like this
"Msg 515, Level 16, State 2, Procedure sp_add_job, Line 137
Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'owner_sid', table 'msdb.dbo.sysjobs'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails.
The statement has been terminated."
What does the error mean? cant i run the same script generated in sql2000 on sql2005.
Wht is the approach to transfer the jobs from sql2000 to sql2005 ?
I know ther is one more way i can transfer.It is through sqlserver business intelligence development studio and using transfer job task.But i dont want to use that.I want to script the job and execute it on sql2005.

Using A Excel Source To Get The Data From An Excel File Gets Null Values For A Couple Columns
Nov 19, 2007 I am using a Excel Source to get the data from an excel file to sql server 2005 table. A couple columns are coming in a double precision float, but some values have characters in them, but those values are coming out as null, even though I changed the datatype from float to unicode string. Any inputs on resolving this will be much appreciated.

l've some excel files controlled by Vendor which changing frequently. The only thing does not change is the header name of each column.
So my question is, is there any way to create a new table based on the excel file selected including the column name in SSIS? So that l can use the data reader as source to select those columns l am interested on and start the integration.

Hello,
I have a problem with retreving a excel data through excel source component.
I have source component as Excel Source which will connect to my .xls sheet.
To retrieve the values from the sheet i am using a query as,
"SELECT F14,F3 FROM [Charac Defn & Assgnment$]"
The column F14 is not formatted so that the format of the cell is "General" I have a different type of values in the F14 column such as "PE","PES",15,20,20.00,8888.9999 etc..
While i click on preview button of Excel source it shows only the text values and not the int or decimal values, its returning NULL for those cells. I tried to use convert function, its throwing an error as

The import wizard defaults everything to varchar 255. I understand there is an XML file I can manipulate to change this and they are located

Jun 23, 2006I turned the Audit ALL option on SQLServer instance "security" tab and restarted the SQLServer but do not see any information logged in SQLServer Logs though I tried to access databases and logged in a couple of times through Query Analyzer. Why is that no logging happened and how can I get this fixed?

my problem is failure in the connection to SQLserver2000 remotly( to city a) by enterprise manager or query analyzer via windows authentication ( this error appears "login failed for (domain/user)" ),while no problems happened in the connection when i would to connect to other servers at other locations(to cities b,c) via windows authentication.
note that i can access to (city a)server via sql server authentication , but i want to access to this server(city a) via windows authenication as the other locations because this authentication mode is policy of our system, and note also that persons in city b can access to all servers (city a,c) via windows authenication .

I created a database maintenance plan with backup + transsactionlog backup+optimizations. The first two jobs work fine but the Optimizations job is failing with error:
sqlmaint.exe failed. SQLSTATE 42000, Error: 22029. The step failed.
User is admin on local box and "sysadmin" in db server role. Any suggestions to resolve this?

I understand I can use Index tuning Wizard to index a DB. I understand as well I have to feed it with a workload file, which is a collection of queries. I do have a limited number of stored procedure (150-200 in total) being constanlty executed against this DB (around 700MB).
Can I generate a workload file with these storedprocedures optimizing so the DB for their execution?
If yes, how? can someone point out some good tutorial about this?
