How To Use OLE DB Command To Update A Derived Column

In my SSIS package,
1. I read from a source namely SOURCE. SOURCE is defined like
CREATE TABLE SOURCE
( f1 int, f2 int, f3 int, id int)
, where f1 is unique and id is always null after reading.
2. pass it to a Slow Change Dimension control to separate the new records and changed records
Then for new records,
3. link to a Derived Column control to add in some new columns
4. link to a OLE DB Command control to update field id before write to destination
In Step 4, I use the command :
INSERT INTO global_id_pool
SELECT MAX(id) + 1
FROM global_id_pool
UPDATE SOURCE
SET id =
(SELECT MAX(id) FROM global_id_pool)
WHERE f1 = ?
Using the command, the parameter can't be recognised with an error reported in BIDS. So eventually I had to change the query to the following to make it work
UPDATE SOURCE
SET id =
(SELECT MAX(id) + 1 FROM global_id_pool)
INSERT INTO global_id_pool
SELECT MAX(id) + 1
FROM global_id_pool
I don't mind the parameter can't be added. But after running, I found id field in the table after the OLE DB Command control is still NULL while the field in the SOURCE table in database is updated. So it seems the OLE DB Command worked on database but the data in memory cache wasn't affected.
So I just wonder if there is way to UPDATE the cache in OLE DB Command control. Many thanks for any help.

Cast/Convert Mmddyy In String To New DB_DATETIMESTAMP Column In Derived Column Transformation

I have dates in "mmddyy" format coming from the sources and they are older dates of mid 80s like 082580 for instance.
When I cast it this way (DT_DBTIMESTAMP) Source_Date , It says ok but throws a runtime error.
When I hardcode a date in same format, (DT_DBTIMESTAMP) "082580" , It becomes red (an indication of syntax error) . Please note that we use double quotes in expressions in Derived Column Transformation; So an anticipation that using double quotes over single ones would be the syntax problem would be wrong.
Any help in this will sincerely be appreciated.

Hey all - got a problem that seems like it would be simple (and probably is : )
I'm importing a csv file into a SQL 2005 table and would like to add 2 columns that exist in the table but not in the csv file. I need these 2 columns to contain the current month and year (columns are named CM and CY respectively). How do I go about adding this data to each row during the transformation? A derived column task? Script task? None of these seem to be able to do this for me.
Here's a portion of the transformation script I was using to accomplish this when we were using SQL 2000 DTS jobs:

Hopefully this question isnt answered somewhere else, but I did a quick search and came up with nothing. I've actually tried to utilize the script component and the "Row" object, but the only properties I'm given with that are the ones from the source data.

I am trying to figure out if there is a way to remove duplicate rows from this table without first writing it to a temp sql table and then parsing through it to remove them.
each row has a like key in a column - I would like to remove like rows keeping specific columns in the resulting row based on the data in this key field.
Ideas?

I'm having a problem and I don't know if it can be solved with a derived column expression. This is the problem:
We are looking data in a a sql database.
We are writting the SQL result in a flat file.
We need to transform data in one of the columns.
For example: we can have 3 digits as value in a column but that column must be 10 digit length. So we have to complete all the missing digits with a zero. So, that column will have the original 3 digits and 7 zeros. How we can do that tranformation? We must do it from de the flat file or it can be a previous step?

UPDATE TABLE_A
SET TABLE_A.COLA=TABLE_B.COLB+'10'
FROM TABLE_A
INNER JOIN TABLE_B
ON TABLE_A.COLA=TABLE_B.COLA
WHERE TABLE_A.COLA=TABLE_B.COLA
The above statement works except the concatenated string has space between TABLE_B.COLB text and '10'. How to remove the space (4 characters) so that the string shows as one word 'TABLE_B.COLB10'?

I have a db with a column classifications, and in that column are 'Accountants - (1234)' 'Book-keepers - (18) etc etc. Now what I want to do is remove the - (xxxx) section and obviously the white space, so I am just left with 'Accountants' 'Book-keepers' etc.
1. Is there an easy way to do this?
Ok so my thoughts were create a another table and put the ammended classifications in that to update the first table. Your probably asking why not just do it on the first table...Answer. There are over 150,000 records to change.
So I now have my first table with column classification and my second table with the correct classification ammendments.
I can sit down and manually type
UPDATE table1
SET classifications = 'Accountants'
Where classifications = 'Accounts - (xxxx)'
until i have completed the entire list in table 2 but I was hoping you good people would know a way to work through the list so it would automatically update each classification correctly.
The problem I have here is I dont know how to work through table 2 and match it to something in table 1 and update it.
Any help is greatfully appreciated

So simply I have in my SQL Server database 2 tables :
First table "SER" fields
SER_ID
SER_IS_CHANGE_RELATED
where I have only the field SER_ID filled like
SER_ID SER_IS_CHANGE_RELATED
1234 NULL
1235 NULL
1236 NULL
Second table "SRE" fields
SRE_ID
SRE_SER_ID
SRE_CHA_ID
and the content would be for example
SRE_ID SRE_SER_ID SRE_CHA_ID
1 1234 2345
2 1234 2346
3 1236 2347
The 2 tables are related by the fields : SER_ID = SRE_SER_ID
So I would like to have the following result in my table "SER":
SER_ID SER_IS_CHANGE_RELATED
1234 True
1235 NULL
1236 True
"True" because one or more entry is present in table "SRE" for each SER_ID (= SRE_SER_ID)

May 6, 2008Hi, wondering if anyone can help me. I currently have a field that has a date and time in it in the format dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm:ss. Ideally I would like to get rid of the time part of it altogether but for it to still be recognised as a date as opposed to a string. However, I've been told that this is not possible in 2005, is this true? If this is the case, what would be the best way to set the time to 00:00:00 after the date for all records on that field?

Dec 3, 2007I am trying to transfer data from SQL Server 2005 table to another SQL Table. In the source table there is a field called Region [nvarchar(max)]. The values for these fields will be like APAC-China, NA-Racine, etc., i.e Region followed by the country name seperated by - symbol. I want the destination tablre with 2 fields Region[nvarchar(max)] and Country [nvarchar(max)]. I am using a Derived Column task to achieve the same.
Can anyone please help me out in doing this data conversion?

I am doing a task which will get all data based on several base and crosswork tables. I used stored procedure to get the data, but the next step will be using derived column to massaging data, and to load to the destination database. Is there a way to do that since I must generate data on the fly?

I am trying to create a derived column from two separate fields. One is a date field in format of 2008-03-01 and one is a time field. In DTS I use to have something like this:
DTSDestination("TransactionDate") = cdate(DTSSource("DSRHDATI")) & " " & timevalue(DTSSource("DSRHTIME"))
I am trying to figure out how to do this in SSIS. I know I have to use a dervived column but can't seem to come up with the correct syntax. Any help would be apprecaited. thanks.
