Hiya!
I'm developing an app. using SQL Server 7 (as the back end) for a company supporting approx. 200 unrelated clients, all in different locations. There is no LAN or WAN connection between them, so we'd probably need to use TCP/IP. The problem is as follows: We have dynamic reports in our app. which are run based on data in two tables. Whenever we add a new report we'd like to send it to all of our clients i.e. update their tables to reflect the additional rows of new report info. How would this best be handled, by DTS or Replication or BCP? And how could it be done with either?
Hello,This is my first post, and i am looking for help about Databases in remote servers. This is my problem:1) I have a free account in "HostBasket", with 50 mb of space, and 10 mb of SQL Server... with ASP.NET 2 support --> http://www.hostbasket.com/dotnet2.shtml?LinkFrom=100602) They gave me this info for the database:Your SQL Server: sql15.hostbasket.comYour database name: myDatabaseNameYour login for the database: myLoginYour password for the database: myPasswordConnection string for ASP.NET (using ADO.NET with System.Data.SqlClient namespace):Persist Security Info=True;User ID=myLogin;Password=myPassword;Initial Catalog=MyDatabaseName;Data Source=sql15.hostbasket.com 3) Actually, i don't know what to do with that info... I mean, i have read so much info, and all people saying "their way" to do things... oh, I am so confused...4) I read in a website, this: "the database can be uploaded as a FILE saved in the App_Data folder, under the .mdf extension"I read that from : http://dotnetjunkies.com/QuickStartv20/aspnet/doc/data/vwd.aspx5) In the url given above, there is a "step by step" example... i follow it, exactly (i start a asp.net website, i create the database and the table, i show the data with the grids, etc )6) All is OK until here, i mean, when i run the website with VWD, it shows me the info OK.7) But... ¿How can i do this works on the Remote Server i described in 1) and 2) ?I know how to upload my website, in fact i uploaded a very basic one, and all was OK, but when i work with databases starts my problem...So, i am almost sure, that i have an error in the "Conecction String"... connectionString="Data Source=.SQLExpress;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|MiBaseDeDatos.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" ¿How should it be, to work with my free remote server?or,if you have done the "easy way" of uploading the .MDF file in the server (but a server different of mine) please, tell me the "how to..." (and the server you used :p )--------------------Ok guys, i am a Chilean young (i dont speak english very well) and i tried to write my ideas in an easy way, so I REALLY HOPE you can help me.I am a New (very new) on this (vwd , .net , asp.net ) in fact, i am using this just 3 days ago...THANK YOU SO MUCH,Carlos,La Serena, Chile.
I'm currently trying to figure out a good way to keep my Local and Remote Databases in sync. Whenever I make changes to one or the other I spend a lot of time manually adjusting the other to match. I want to be able to set up an update page that accesses my Remote database and Local database and Updates the two accordingly.
I really don't know where to start with this one. I'm not sure at all as to how to simultaneously connect to two different databases, on two different servers, and Udate from one another. Does anyone know any good articles to get me started?
I just got hosted on a site which supports .Net, and my forms seem to be coming up okay. I have a database residing on my computer that accompanies the pages I have written.
I was told that I need to export my database to their site, and I have an ip address to use. Can anyone tell me how I would go about with this export ?
I have SQL Server running on our web server located at a managed hosting site at Rackspace. I've got some developers who are going to be editing various sites and will need access to specific databases. Is there something built in to MSSQL, or a third party app, which will allow for this kind of remote access? They will be doing everything from restructuring these DB's to just inputting data.
Yesterday, at 7 am, I was able to connect to remote databases from Enterprise Manager. Then at 11 am, I started getting "General Network Error" and connections failed. This happened on all my remote databases, so the problem is not the remote server. (I did check.) I have Comcast Broadband cable access to the internet. I can still access the internet, email, and ftp servers, just not the sql port. I rebooted my entire system several times. Today, I took my computer to a friend's house, and was able to successfully connect to the remote databases fom Enterprise Manager, so the problem is not on my computer. (I did check for the sql worm, and downloaded the McAfee Fix program, but it didn't find anything, and confirmed that the Service Pack 3 fixes were in place.) I also tried connecting directly to my cable modem, but that did not work, so it doesn't seem to be my router or firewall. I contacted Comcast and they are not blocking port 1433. I don't know what else to try. I don't think the problem is on my computer or the software.
I need to know which are the best ways to connect to a remote SQL SERVER 2000 from inside a VB6 application. By remote I mean on a dedicated server outside my LAN that I can access by IP address.
We connect to the remote database servers through the network from loca by using Query Analyzer. Previously we were able to execute the xp_cmdshell command from local Query Analyzer to fetch the remote databases data. But now we are unable to execute the xp_cmdshell command on remote databases from local Query Analyzer We do not know what happened but i think due to network updates this command is not able to execute...
For ex: Previously i was able to execute master..xp_cmdshell 'net start' from local Query Analyzer. But now not able to execute
Now my question is, is there any other way(Directly or indirectly) to execute the xp_cmdshell command on remote databases from local?
Note : we are able to execute this command on remote Query Analyzer but not from local QA
I read the Tang and Lennan's book 'SQL Server 2005 Data Mining'. It frequently says about changing the value of the algorithm's parameter. I tried changing values for MINIMUM_PROBABILITY in one occasion. However, the dialog box refuses to change the value; for any of 'Value', 'Default', and 'Range'. Similar thing happens when I tried to change the value.
What I can do is delete the parameter, then add it again. Even so, I can only supply the value, not the default value and range (of values).
What happen? Again, is this because I'm using evaluation copy?
and BSmith's idea (no relation), I came up with this silly stored proc to compare any two tables or views. Supply the table names and the columns you wish to compare and have fun!
The key to the GROUP BY approach is that it handles NULLS quite well which JOINS have trouble with.
-- Table1, Table2 are the tables or views to compare. -- T1ColumnList is the list of columns to compare, from table1. -- Just list them comma-separated, like in a GROUP BY clause. -- If T2ColumnList is not specified, it is assumed to be the same -- as T1ColumnList. Otherwise, list the columns of Table2 in -- the same order as the columns in table1 that you wish to compare. -- -- The result is all records from either table that do NOT match -- the other table, along with which table the record is from.
declare @SQL varchar(8000);
IF @t2ColumnList = '' SET @T2ColumnList = @T1ColumnList
set @SQL = 'SELECT ''' + @table1 + ''' AS TableName, ' + @t1ColumnList + ' FROM ' + @Table1 + ' UNION ALL SELECT ''' + @table2 + ''' As TableName, ' + @t2ColumnList + ' FROM ' + @Table2
set @SQL = 'SELECT Max(TableName) as TableName, ' + @t1ColumnList + ' FROM (' + @SQL + ') A GROUP BY ' + @t1ColumnList + ' HAVING COUNT(*) = 1'
I have this query that I would rather not turn into a stored proc.because the client really has no budget. I was hoping there would be away to add this statement inline to the following sql with some kind ofIF statement without writing it all out. The problem is either totalcost or conversions will have some zeros in the table.SUM([total cost]/[cost per conversion])Any help would be appreciated - Happy New YearSELECT [Search Term], SUM([total cost]/[cost per conversion]) as calcw,SUM([impressions]) AS impress, SUM([Total Cost]) AS totalcost,SUM([Total Clicks]) AS totalclicks, SUM(Conversions) AS totalconv,SUM([Cost Per Conversion]) AS costconv FROM csv where [start date][color=blue]>='01/01/04' and [end date] <='12/31/04' GROUP BY [Search Term] ORDER[/color]BY [Search Term] ASC
i suspect i know the answer to this already, but here goes anyway....i have a table that has field of varchar(2048), which once in a blue moon ineed to edit the data manually (until a bad character parser validates thedata before it's written ;-) )at the moment i'm doing this through enterprise manager (sql server 2000),opening the table then filtering using where clauses etc to see the recordsi'm interested in. i then edit the data direct in the results pane (purelybecause it's quicker than entering the UPDATE transact SQL). this is fineuntil i hit a record that has 1024 or more characters in the field. all ican do is delete all the data. if i try and paste the same data into thefield again, it'll truncate the record to the first 1024 chars (unconfirmed)despite the field being able to take double that.i've googled this and the result basically said "don't be lazy, do itthrough UPDATE transact SQL in the query analyser".anyone know if that's my only option or is there a patch / whatever to allowme to keep using entman as i lazily do at the mo?cheers!
Am I correct in assuming that installing a SQL EE application on to a local runtime desktop would require a lot of experienced user intervention to install the SQL to each local cpu? Can a SQL app be installed automatically w/o a user intervening?
I have located the Server where Reporting Services has been installed and I believe I have found the Report Server Database. Is there any way from the Report Server Tables that I can try and figure out where the Report Manager URL might be?
Hello, I cannot find out to create enum data type in SQL Server 2005 Express. Can I easily create the enum type just like the MySQL does.(please the MySQL example below)
CREATE TABLE myTable ( myid INT UNSIGNED NOT NULL, myclass ENUM('FIRST','SECOND','THIRD') DEFAULT 'FIRST' PRIMARY KEY(myid) );
hi all, i have a local SQL server running with my Products table, now very soon we want to launch a website (asp.net 2.0 with sql 2k5), hosted on a shared environment, which synchronises with our local SQL. Replication is out of the question. i tested already with a webservice on our local server, but i can't find the right way how to periodically update our online Db.since our website has over 200 visits a day, i can't do a check everytime the code is launched. Our local server has a slow upload speed + is not 99.9% garantueed online... the dataset has a 1Mb file size. i do have a boolean which indicates if there are new products or not, in this way i don't have to download the full dataset on my local SQL.(i can provide a list with only the new products and a list of products which have to be deleted, but still, i'm looking for the best way WHEN to do the update) Forcing an update from my local server to the online server seems a problem since i have restricted rights on the online server.
I develop ASP.NET applications and use MS SQL 2000 Enterprise.
Each customer has one database and one custom design application. And, there is a gateway and a central database to get data from all databases.
Supposed there are 10 DBs. I want the data in those 10 databases updating to the central database directly. So, the gateway can gather all data of 10 DBs from a central DB.
Now, my question is how should I do it in MS SQL 2000? Can I do it with a stored procedure (SP)? If so, how does the SP like?
Or, SP can only perform on it's own DB, but not execute across DBs? If so, how can I do that?
Hi Everyone, I develop a asp.net 2.0 site with Sql2005 Database, now i want to publish it on a webhosting service. Once I copy the DB to app_data folder on webhosting, what i can do to update data from my local sql2000 server? I want update data daily, may I use SQL replication? How? I can access my sql2005 DB by FTP? Any ideas? Thanks a lot. Regards, Bordonhos
i have a local SQL Server Express 2005 on my local machine and i want my software to update from the SQL Expres to the SQL Server when the user click the save button to keep an image of the local database on the remote server without having to backup a file and restore it?
I am new to programming in SQL and in VB. I use VWD to create web applications with a Hosted SQL database, locally though the databases are created in SQLExpress through Visual Web Developer. I have used the SQL Publishing Wizard to upload my local data to the web sql server. But, I'd like to have the same local database as is on the web, which is being updated by users, both data and user / membership data but am not sure how to create an easy, or even programmatical way to update both databases periodically. Thank you for your help. Cjsteury
I have 50 MSDE SQL2k servers, each server has around 10 customer databases. There are 5 stored procecures need to update to 50*10 = 500 databases. These 5 stored procedures each has many 'Go' keywords and 4 of 5 with more than 8000 characters. What might be the best way to loop execute them automatically, instead of isql/w to each database connection to run the script?
I had bumpped by 'Go' keywords error and limitation of max varchar of 8000 error. thanks for the help David
I need assigning a group of users read, write, update (not delete) permission on all user databases. is there any way to do so instead of creating role on each database separately.
I have to DBs. One is the original and the other is for testing. They both have similar data structure. Wanted to know if there is a way to update tables contents in one db with data that is in the other one.
Is there a way to compare two databases one being an olddatabase and the second being a new database, I willupdate the old database's objects to match the new database'sobjects? Is there SQL code that could do this easily? How do you do this if you deal with the same scenario?Thank you
we have a new requirement that calls for also (in addition to RS's automatic directory updates) updating an organizational application database with metatdata about instances of scheduled reports, or alternatively having our app query RS's metadata for such info.
So, let's say we have a report called Sales Detail, and it runs at 8am every day of the week for client A thru the scheduling mechanism that comes with RS. Each time it runs to completion, an entry would have to be made in our organizational database representing a new run (instance) of the report under the client for whom it was run, in this case A.
Forgetting for the moment potential issues with a reporting system interfering with the transactional, or vice versa, can datasets in RS also do updates?...or can the scheduling mechanism in RS be extended to also log info to other places?...or is the metadata kept by RS (about instances of reports) easy to get to and decipher, and possibly be extended to record for which client this particular instance was run?
I would like to write a query that will join two tables in separate databases (same server). Then update a field in one table using data and criteria from the other.
Its easy to do this in Microsoft Access by linking the tables using ODBC, but I found its not so simple to do directly in SQL Server
Hi, I'm using "Microsoft SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard" to import and create database on a remote server. Is there a convenient tool to update SQL database on a remote server to match with database that I have on my computer?
I have a database on my web hosting site. It is a sql server 2005 database that was created in sql server management studio express. I can access this database in code using a connection string and do things like show results on my page. However I now want to do things like delete certain records, or update stored procedure criteria, usually I would do this by running sql in management studio but as my database is now online with the hosting company how would I do this?
I have an application that uses a MS SQL 2005 database. When data is changed in certain tables, that data needs to be pushed to a MySQL box. I've added the MySQL server as a linked server in SQL 2k5 and I can delete and insert data with no problem, however when I try to update I get the following error (query included):
Code Snippet
with RemoteTable(r_AccountID, r_Name) as (select AccountID, Name from openquery(RACS_TEST, 'select AccountID, Name from accounts')) update RemoteTable set r_Name = ex_Name from Export_RACS_Accounts join remotetable on r_AccountID = ex_AccountID
OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "RACS_TEST" returned message "Row cannot be located for updating. Some values may have been changed since it was last read.". Msg 7343, Level 16, State 4, Line 33 The OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "RACS_TEST" could not UPDATE table "[MSDASQL]". The rowset was using optimistic concurrency and the value of a column has been changed after the containing row was last fetched or resynchronized.
I want to create an UPDATE statement that updates a value in a table indatabase A based on the results of an inner join between tables eachresiding in deifferent databases. What is the correct syntax for doing this? The following should give you an idea of what I'm trying to do:UPDATE A.dbo.tblCarsSET A.dbo.tblCars.Car = 'Ferrari'FROMA.dbo.tblCars INNER JOIN B.dbo.tblHouses ONA.dbo.tblCars.RecID = B.dbo.tblHouses.RecIDWHERE (B.dbo.tblHouses = 'Mansion')
