How To Use SQL Express To Cache The Data.

View 2 RepliesHi,
can I use sql cache dependency with ms sql 2005 express edition?
Im getting this error when trying to set up a cache dependency...are there any special permissions etc?From CS:SqlCacheDependency dep = new SqlCacheDependency("MySite-Cache", "Products");Cache.Insert("Products", de.GetAllProductsList(), dep); From connectionStrings.config:<add name="SiteDB" connectionString="Data Source=localhost,[port]SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=true;User Instance=true; AttachDBFileName=|DataDirectory|ASPNETDB.MDF" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />Also tried this using my machinename<add name="SiteDB" connectionString="Data
Source=<machinename>,[port]SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=true;User
Instance=true; AttachDBFileName=|DataDirectory|ASPNETDB.MDF"
providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> From web.config: <caching> <sqlCacheDependency enabled="true" pollTime="10000"> <databases> <add name="MySite-Cache" connectionStringName="SiteDB" pollTime="2000"/> </databases> </sqlCacheDependency> </caching> EDIT: So making progress I can't seem to get the table registered for cache dependency:The sample i have says"aspnet_regsql.exe -E -S .SqlExpress -d aspnetdb -t Customers -et"and the command line response is "Enabling the table for SQL cache dependency..An error has happened. Details of the exception:The table 'Customers' cannot be found in the database."Where does this "Customers" table come from? There is obviously not an application specific "Customers" table in aspnetdb I'm confused probably more by the example than anything....
Is there a way to drop clean buffers at the database level instead of the server/instance level like the undocumented €śDBCC FLUSHPROCINDB (@dbid)€??
Is there a workaround for €śdbo€? to be able to flush procedure and data cache without being elevated to €śsysadmin€? server role?
PS: I am aware of the sp_recompile option that can be used to invalidate cached execution plans.
Thx.
Hi guys,
I am looking at the plan caches/cached pages from the perspective of
sys.dm_os_memory_cache_counters and sql serverlan Cache - Cache Pages
For the first one I am using
select (sum(single_pages_kb) + sum(multi_pages_kb) )
from sys.dm_os_memory_cache_counters
where type = 'CACHESTORE_SQLCP' or type = 'CACHESTORE_OBJCP'
a slight change from a query in
http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlprogrammability/
For the second just perfmon.
The first one gives me a count of about 670,000 pages only for the object and query cache and the second one gives me a total of about 100,000 pages for five type of caches including object and query.
If I am using the query from http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlprogrammability/ to determin the plan cache size
select (sum(single_pages_kb) + sum(multi_pages_kb) ) * 8 / (1024.0 * 1024.0) as plan_cache_in_GB
from sys.dm_os_memory_cache_counters
where type = 'CACHESTORE_SQLCP' or type = 'CACHESTORE_OBJCP'
it gives me about 5 GB when in fact my SQL Server it can access only max 2GB with Total and Target Server Memory at about 1.5 GB.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on?
I have a server where the cache hit ratio averages 99.5%, however the cache flushes figure is high at 13068 over half a day, the avg free page scan is 122, both above what microsoft reccomend.
The server has 320Mb memory of which 272 is allocated to SQL Server.
Of the 272, 229.9 is allocated to the data cache.
I would be grateful of any suggestions to improve the situtaion
Thanks in advance

Hi,
I created a report model using reporting services, deployed the model locally and then built a report based on that model. The report works fine, but any data updates don't show up, seems like data is cached. I bounced reporting services, cleared cached tables in ReportServerTempDB but of no use. Has anybody faced this problem? How can I get updated data for reports built through a report model. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Sri
I'm currently working with a 10 million plus row database with the dataresiding on a Unix box with Cache 5.0. The problems is that it can take fivedays to pull one table from Cache to SQL 2000 using the ODBC connectionprovided by Cache in a SQL 2000 DTS package. I think the real problem isconverting the data from the post relational format (Cache) to a relationalformat (SQL 2000)???Does anyone have any ideas / suggestions on how to speed this transfer ofdata? I'm very new to Cache and any help would be greatly appreciated.Thanks,-p

View 6 Replies View RelatedDear Friends,
I want your help to know the best way to cache the data of a dropdownbox returned by a SQL Query.(SELECT FIELD FROM DBO.TABLE)
This data returned by database is used in more than one dropdown on multiple pages. I want to cache only the dropdown control, not the entire page. Which is the best way to do it? The data isn't refreshed often, probably once per month.
Could you tell me the best way?
THANKS
After converting from SSIS 2008 to SSIS 2012, I am facing major performance slowdown while loading fact data.When we used 2008 - one file used to take around 2 hours average and now after converting to 2012 - it took 17 hours to load one file. This is the current scenario: We load data into Staging and Select everything from Staging (28 million rows) and use a lookups for each dimension. I believe it is taking very long time due to one Dimension table which has (89 million rows).Â
With the lookup, we currently are using partial cache because full cache caused system out of memory.Lookup Transformation Editor - on this lookup -Â how to increase the size on partial Cache size 64-bit? I am being stuck at 4096 MB and can not increase it. In 2008, I had 200,000 MB partial cache size.
I have built a small application in vs2005 (vb) using system.data.slqserverce building
in the mobile sql engine into my app. I intend to run this on desktop. The app
works fine on my development laptop machine, when i publish it (to a hard disk folder) and run it on another laptop, i get:
'unable to install or run the application. The application requires that assembly system.data.sqlserverce version 9.0.242.0 be installed in the Global Assembly Cache (GAC) first.'
This is my first app in .net so not sure what this means.
I thought all i had to do was reference the file (which i have done in the project) and
VS would take care of stuff like this? Framework 2.0 is installed on the target machine.
Hope im in the right forum for this! if not i apologise
Any help most appreciated.

How do i check the size of the datacache allocated from the buffer pool by sql server?
DMV or anything to show me the pool allocation sizes for the various pools in sql server i think i may be able to work from there.
in microsoft doc there is written on the topic of BP Extensions with SSD's in SQL Server 2014: only clean pages are written to disk... does this mean data pages that have not been modified yet? or also those data pages that have already been modified, and where log has finished writing and the transaction has been marked as commited??
why are there clean data pages being written to L2 cache to make space for other not modified pages? I mean, shoudnt they be modified first, before letting other unmodified data pages into the Cache? I mean they have still to be modified..that makes no sense to me to page them out and page them in again just for other data pages...
On Microsoft performance monitor, what is the difference between SQL Server Cache Manager: Cache Hit Ratio and SQL
Server Buffer Manager: Buffer Cache Hit Ratio? We have a production server where the buffer cache hit ratio is
consistently at 99%, which is normal. However, the cache hit ratio is 73%. What is the difference between the two
hit ratios, and why would we have such a significant difference between the two?
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
I have an Excel add-in that connects to a SQL Server Express 2005database. I've decided to create a configuration piece for this add-inin Visual Studio 2005 Express. I added a data connection using the dataconnection wizard and all appeared to go well. Anyways when I attemptto open SQL Server Express to administer the database, it was corruptedand I had to restore it.I eventually got it to work correctly (I'm pretty sure I followedpretty much the same steps as before), but I was just wondering ifanyone had experienced problems like this? I find it a bit scary thatit may be that easy to corrupt the database by just creating a dataconnection.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop and a desktop that I both installed VWD and SQL Express. from my laptop, i see my laptop's name in the Server Name under data connections, but on the desktop, I only see an older Win2K Server with SQL 2000 in the list. Anyone know why my desktop doesn't show it's NAME?I can create new tables, users and all that stuff from the Management area. Thanks

Hi,
I'm trying to learn some VB programming with the VB 2005 Express Absolute Beginner Series video tutorials (which I think is great) and have come across a problem that I can't solve.
When I follow the instructions in Lesson 9 (Databinding Data to User Interface Controls) my application will display the data from the database correctly and I can edit it (and as long as the debugger is running the data remains changed). However, the changes won't propagate back to the database. I don't get any error messages but after I edit the data, save (with the save button on the BindingNavigator toolbar), and end debugging the data in my database remains unchanged. When I use a MessageBox to show how many rows where edited/updated in the
Me.myTableTableAdapter.Update(Me.myDatabaseDataSet.myTable)
I get the correct number back. I'm sure the problem is not due to coding errors since I've also tried running the accompanying Lesson 9 project file that can be downloaded from MSDN and the problem persists.
I'm using Windows XP SP2, SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and VB 2005 Express Edition. I've tried installing SQL Server 2005 Express with a number of different settings, including default settings, but it doesn't make any difference.
Would greatly appreciate any feedback on this as I'm keen to resolve this problem so I can get on with the next tutorial lesson.
Thanks,
Ieyasu
Hi all,
It looks like these options are only available in the SQL Server Management Studio? I installed SQL Server Management Express Studio and I can't even find the DTSWizard.exe on my machine.
Can you please help how I can import data from excel or where can I download the SQL Server Management Studio?
Your prompt response is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!

This problem only occurs after deployment, not when debugging. In the table I am having a problem with I have an ID field designated as the primary key with the identity increment set to 1 and the identity seed set to 1. There is no data in the table when deployed. I can add records to the datagridview control but when I try updating the dataset I get this error indicating that the ID field already has a value of 1 present. If I close the application and re-start it, the exception no longer occurrs when I update the dataset. I am including the code to update the tables incase something is wrong there. Any suggestions?
Private Sub UpdateMemberTable()
Me.Validate()
Me.TblMembersBindingSource.EndEdit()
Me.TblMembersTableAdapter.Update(Me.ChurchFamilyDataSet.tblMembers)
Me.TblMemberDependentsBindingSource.EndEdit()
Me.TblMemberDependentsTableAdapter.Update(Me.ChurchFamilyDataSet.tblMemberDependents)
Me.TblMemberContributionsBindingSource.EndEdit()
Me.TblMemberContributionsTableAdapter.Update(Me.ChurchFamilyDataSet.tblMemberContributions)
End Sub
String or binary data would be truncated. I get this error when entering data using sql server management studio express.
I am not running a sql to insert or update the table. This is through the EDI.
The data type is varchar(100). I enter one character and it errors on me. So this isn't a string being too long problem.
Any ideas?
After my upgrade from MSDE SP 4 to SQL express (backup and restore) my application will not see the data any more.
If I use my application (VB Dot.NET 1.x ; DB= SQL Express) to add new data (rows) this new rows are visible.
Both old and new datas are seen in SQL management studio express.
If i add rows with the SQL management studio express the appliction will not see this rows.
In both cases I connect with sa - account. (Administrator even doesn't work). I search for any restrictions on row basis but i wonder why the management tool display all rows.
Any ideas!
I read about the SQL 2005 Buffer Cache and the .NET cache.I tried it on about 8000 users query. Both are fast....SQL 2005 being a little faster (probably due to I was sorting the .NET Cache).Any comments?

In Sybase, I can bind a database or table to cache, can I do the same
on SQL 7.0?
Hi..
I don't know this is possible or not.
for example.. I have a blog site..
my entry links are like that
blog.asp?ID=33
blog.asp?ID=36
36 points "select * tbl where id=36"
And approximately BLOG #36 has 400 views everyday..
content is same.It never change..
Everyday my application performs "select * tbl where id=36"
with direct ASP or Stored Procedure..
Do you have any solution about this ?
How to improve performance..
Just imagine, If entry #36 had 2.000 views everyday ?
just example..
Of course the less perform query, the more performance..
Hello!
When I create new job, I get a message "Job cache 97% full"
What should I do? And what IS a job cache?
Thanks!

Hi all,
We have access database with lots of data in it. I want to move all the dat to the new database which has completely differenet database structure (e.g different tables, different rows).
What I was thinking is that there are 2 ways. one is manually, which will take long tome probably, and the other is to rum queries that will move the data from access to the new sql express. The question is how to that. I know that I used onw CSV files exported for ms access, but now the queries will be much more complex and I will use more then one table for te query.
How can I query from 2 different databases, which from one I read data(access), and from the other I write data (express)?
Thanks alot.
Hi all,
I have a question regarding SQL caching.
I want to use SQL caching for my pages.I've gone through http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/e3w8402y(VS.80).aspx article on msdn, where in step by step procedure is explained for this. But I have a slightly different situation. In the article, we need to configure our application from web.config by following...
<!-- caching section group --><caching> <sqlCacheDependency enabled = "true" pollTime = "1000" > <databases> <add name="Northwind" connectionStringName="NorthwindConnectionString1" pollTime = "1000" /> </databases> </sqlCacheDependency></caching>
Where in "NorthwindConnectionString1" is the SQLdatasource connection string. But I'm not using SQLDatasource, and have my own classes to build a connection datasource and get a dataset, and then bind it to my control.So in this case what should I write for the above "connectionstring" attribute. My connection string is in web.config only with a section defined. and in my application i'm reading from web.fing only.The connection section i'm using is as follows...
<ConnSettings>
<add key="ConnString" value="server=serverName;database=dbName;uid=dbuser;Pwd=password"/>
</ConnSettings>
I want to know how to configure my sql cache in this situation.
Thanks,
Mehul Mistry
Hello,
Am wondering if someone can give me a pointer on where to start with a query i have.
What i am trying to do is provide some sort of information to a user that data from a database has been changed. I know that you can cache a page and have output cache directive invalidate it next time it loads if changed but wondering if its poss to be told its changed without reload ( dont see how but never know) - even if not on that page.
What im kinda thinking is something like the popup that outlook has when a new message arrives in in box. Is that just sending a new query? is there a table last modified function in sql? etc.
This is for a web app in c#.
Any help would be appreaciated.
cheers
Hello all.. i'm having a major issue with my Sql Express 2005 database :(
I'm using wicked code sitemap to allows for a sitemap to be stored in a database.. it uses sql cache dependency to invalidated the cache bla bla
Problem:
After i update a record / add new record the database generates a SqlQueryNotificationStoredProcedure
But it never gets executed. I've done tests on the code it's calling everything accordingly so i'm assuming the problem lies in a configuration setting of the database
done alot of searching around the net and i've found this
GRANT SUBSCRIBE QUERY NOTIFICATIONS TO username
i'm using Windows Authentication how do i run this and will this solve the problem
Thank you in advance
Chris
I'm working off of the example shown here:
http://www.c-sharpcorner.com/UploadFile/mosessaur/sqlcachedependency01292006135138PM/sqlcachedependency.aspx?ArticleID=3caa7d32-dce0-44dc-8769-77f8448e76bc
The tutorial shows that an entry must be made in web.config for a sqlCacheDependency node in web.config. When a dependency is added, they set an attributed called "connectionStringName" that references a connectionString established earlier in the web.config. My question is twofold:
1). First, I tried setting up my connection string using the connectionStrings node (my other apps use the AppSettings node), but when I try to extract the value in my code using the following syntax:
connStr = Convert.ToString(System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["devConnStr"].ConnectionString);
I get the following compilation error: "ConfigurationManager does not exist in the class or namespace System.Configuration";
Am I extracting it with the wrong code? Does that setup exists in .NET v 1.4? No, I cannot use .NET v 2.0 for various reasons.
2). If I cannot use ConnectionStrings in that way and must use AppSettings, how do I set up SqlCacheDependency node to recognize that connection string?
I have been seeing this strange statistics in one of our servers. The cache hit ratio has gone beyond 100%, it is currently showing 124%. Has anyone seen this before.
Thanks
