So here's what I'm trying to do: I have three columns of data. Sometimes only one of the columns will contain a value while others may contain a null. If two or three contain a value it will be the same. So if I'm building a table in the layout designed and I want the value of the table to be the value stored in these columns. In pseudocode it looks like this:
Switch(column1 and column2 are null, value = column3, if column1 and column3 are null, value = column2, otherwise, value = column1)
Something like that where column1 is the default so if column 1 has a value then set the textbox value to it otherwise find a column that has it. I know that at least one column will definitely have a value. Anyone that can provide guidance on how to execute these I would appreciate it greatly.

We will call that "sp_foldersOfFile". It takes 1 parameter, a fileID (int) value.
The result when I execute this from within Management Studio is a single column of 1 to n rows. I want to use these values in another stored procedure like this:

The Stored Procedure compiles but it does not query the folderpermissions in the selected values from the sp_FoldersOfFile procedure. I'm sure it is a syntax issue.

Aug 9, 2015I have a data model with 7 tables and I'm trying to write a stored procedure for each table that allows four actions. Each stored procedure should have 4 parameters to allow a user to insert, select, update and delete a record from the table.
I want to have a stored procedure that can accept those 4 parameters so I only need to have one stored procedure per table instead of having 28 stored procedures for those 4 actions for 7 tables. I haven't found a good example online yet of conditional logic used in a stored procedure.
Is there a way to add a conditional logic IF statement to a stored procedure so if the parameter was INSERT, go run this statement, if it was UPDATE, go run this statement, etc?
I have attached my data model for reference.

Now planning to switch to Sql server 2005 are there any issues associated with the switch.
I mean front end programming wise asp.net and vb.net front end codes do they work straight away or need to make any changes to all the front end codes, we are using datasets, data readers calling stored procs and also using lot of hash tables and XML object to make bulk loads to sql server via sqlxml3.0 sp3.

Apr 1, 2007Keep in mind this is my first compiled SQL program Stored Procedure(SP), copied from a book by Frasier Visual C++.NET in Visual Studio2005 (Chap12). So far, so theory, except for one bug (feature?)below. At some point I'm sure I'll be able to laugh about this, akinto forgeting a semi-colon in C/C++, but right now it's frustrating(time to sleep on it for a while).Problem--For some reason I get the error when trying to save files where twotables (called Author and Content), linked by a single key, form arelationship.By simple comparison of the source code in the textbook and my program(below) I found the difference: instead of, like in the textbook, theStored Procedure (SP) starting with "CREATE PROCEDURE", it*automatically* is (was somehow) given the name of 'ALTER PROCEDURE'and I cannot change this to "CREATE PROCEDURE" (you get an error in MSVisual Studio 2005 Pro edition of "There is already an object namedXXX in the database", see *|* below). Error #1: Type 'SqlConnection' is not defined (in Form1.vb)
Error #2: Type 'SqlDataAdapter' is not defined (in Form1.vb)

Error #4: 'DataSet' is not a type and cannot be used as an expression (in Form1)

I have the "ssmsExpressDB" database in the Database Expolorer of VB 2005 Express. But I do not know how to get the SqlConnection and the SqlDataAdapter into the Form1. I do not know how to get the Fill Method implemented properly.

There is a trigger that calls a stored procedure that is working properly (i.e. the stored procedure is being executed). After the transaction is completed, I need have the record that was just created also copy to another table. There is a field called flag and the values in this field are either 1 or 2. External Stored Procedure In SQL Server 2005(x64)
Aug 9, 2006I have generated a DLL file in VC++ 2005 by a 'C' file. It works fine when I put in a 32bits machine(32bits Windows Server 2003 + 32 bits SQL Server 2005).
However, when I build it into 64 bits, it doesn't work in a 64 bits machine. I have checked by Dependenct Walker, the DLL generated is linked with KERNEL32.DLL / OPENDS60.DLL / MSVCR80D.DLL, all of these DLL files are on the 64 bits machines and linked correctly.
I used the command
sp_addextendedproc 'abc', 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLBinnabc.dll'
to create a ext. stored procedure. When I run it, the error message shows that
Could not load the DLL C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLBinnabc.dll, or one of the DLLs it references. Reason: 126(error not found).
I would like to ask what is cause of the problem? Do I need to use CLR instead?

RAPI CopyFileToDevice Slow After Switch From Mobile 2005 To Compact 2005
Sep 12, 2007I have a windows forms application that runs on my PC that populates a SQL Server Compact 2005 database and then transfers that .sdf file to my mobile device. The communication between the mobile device and PC is done using the Desktop RAPI class from OpenNetCF (http://www.opennetcf.com/FreeSoftware/DesktopCommunication/tabid/90/Default.aspx)
Anyway, I was previously using SQL Server Mobile 2005 and my populated .sdf was around 1.7 MB and I could transfer it to my mobile device in a minute. Once I switched to SQL Server Compact 2005, the transfer process began taking 3 minutes with a 1.5 MB .sdf file. The SSCE also got bloated more easily so I added in the Compact operation each time after I fully populate the SDF to keep the file size at 1.5 MB, but even then it still takes 3 minutes.
I've done a few tests where I simply switch between the two database versions and that simple switch of the version changes the transfer time. I am dumbfounded trying to figure out what the cause might be. Since it is just a file transfer, why would the version even matter unless somehow SSCE is really not compacting and lying about its actual size.
Has anyone run into anything similar to this or may have any ideas what might be going on?

Mar 4, 2007I have in the past created stored procedures using SQL Server 2000. It was easy to do. Now I am using SQL Server 2005 and the whole process is different and confusing to me. I performed the following steps to create a stored procedure:
1.) In SQL Server management studio, I wen to the folder named "Stored Procedures"2.) I right clicked on this folder and selected "New Stored Procedure..."3.) A generic sql server stored procedure is created for me.4.) I modify the stored procedure and now want to save it?
Now where do I go from here? How should I properly save this new stored procedure and where should I save it?I noticed that a generic name is assigned such as SQLQuery13.sql, but I want to name it something else.
I actually saved the new stored procedure but I can't see it listed under the "Stored Procedures" folder. I even tried doing a refresh.

The request is performing quite well on the SQL Server 2000 but on the SQL Server 2005 it takes much longer. I already installed the SP2 x64, I'm running the SQL Server 2005 on a x64 environment.
As I stated in the comment in the query it takes 90 seconds to finish with the line included, but if I exclude the line it takes 1 second.
I think there must be something wrong with the join's or something else which has maybe changed in SQL Server 2005. All the tables joined have a primary key.
Maybe you folks can spot the error / mistake / wrong type of doing things easily.
I would appreciate any help you can offer me to solve this problem.
On the web I saw that there is a Cumulative Update 4 for the SP2 which fixes the following:

FIX: The query performance is slower when you run the query in SQL Server 2005 than when you run the query in SQL Server 2000
Anyhow I think the problem is something else, I haven't tried out the cumulative update yet, as I think it is something different, more general why this query takes ages to process.

SQL Server 2005 Managment Studio Newbie: Can't See Stored Procedure
Oct 3, 2006I just created a stored procedure in SQL Server 2005 management studio. I went to my db and expanded the programmability folder then right clicked the stored procedures folder and created a stored procedure. I saved the procedure as sp_getDistance in the default folder SQL managment studio picked. Now when I went back to that stored procedure folder I did not see my stored procedure sp_getDistance, all that was there was the system stored procedure folder. Did I save the stored procedure in the wrong place, or what did I do wrong. I can't find the procedure anywhere, its just sitting in my My DocumentsSQL Server Management StudioProjectssp_getDistance.sql folder. Thanks,Kyle Spitzer

if i pass value in "where city in (@Zone)" and @Zone ='CA','AD','MH' then it can not get any result..but if write where city in ('CA','AD','MH') then it give me perfact result..
