How To Open SDF File Stored On Windows Mobile Device From A Windows Desktop App?

Apr 14, 2008

Long story short -

Have two C# applications - one WinForms desktop app, the other a WinForms smart device app. Both use SQL Server Compact CE 3.5 to store data locally. Both work just fine.

Now the desktop app needs to open and update the .SDF file that is stored on the Windows Mobile device. (Device will be docked via USB.)

What format would the path to the .SDF look like that the WinForms application would need to specify in order to open it?

Thanks for reading.

Merge Replication 32-bit IIS - 64-bit SQL Server 2005 -Windows Mobile 5 Device

Nov 15, 2006

We have setup a 32-bit IIS server on a 32-bit machine. Installed necessary SQL Server components (32-bit replication components). We have installed SQL Server 2005 64-bit SP1 with latest hotfixes on a 64-bit machine.

On the Mobile device we installed SQL Server 2005 Mobile.

When we start mergereplication the problem we have is error 28009 (An instance of the SQL Server Reconciler cannot be created) on the mobile device. I read allot about it, but still have a questetion.

Should this work?

I found the doc: SQL Server 2005 Upgrade Technical Resource Guide:
Note: If your upgrade involves SQL Server CE subscribers, you must perform additional actions on the IIS server. You will need to install SQL Server 2005 client connectivity components along with SQL Server Mobile Edition components on the IIS server. You will also have to replace sqlcesa30.dlll, sqlcerp30.dll, and all the replication components on the IIS server.

From this I conclude it should work or is the doc in error?

If it does not, what can we do?

32-bit SQL Server 2005 on the 64-bit machine should work. (Can a 64-bit SQL Server 2005 run alongside 32-bit SQL Server 2005?).

Hi all,

We have SQL Server 2005 Entp 32-bit on Windows Server 2003 Entp.Edtion 64-bit. ( Total memory = 16 Gb)

1) So, in this case , do i need to enable AWE Configuration from SQL Server Side ( 32-bit).

And what settings( AWE, /PAE) i should enable on OS (i.e.) on Windows Server 2003 (64-bit) in boot.ini file.
Because right now, i dont see any switches in boot.ini file.

2) And with 16 GB of RAM, what should be the ideal setting for memory ( Min & Max).

Please give some ideas on this.

Thanks.

Can I Write A Dll(or Share The Same Code) That Works On Both Mobile Device And Pc?

May 4, 2007

hi,

Can I write a dll(or share the same code) that works on both Mobile device and pc? Since we are using compact edition, we are hoping we can write some common module with the same code that could works on both mobile device and pc platform. I noticed the reference is the same, System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll 3.0.

Another question is, we already have a module for SQLCE2.0, with .net CF1.0. Now, we will start to use compact edition, should we just update on the 1.0 one, or we have to write a different one based on .net CF2.0? Can I use compact edition in CF1.0 dll?

Thanks.

Memory Configurations For SQL Server 2005 EE X64 With SQL Server 2000 EE X32 On Windows Server EE X64 Server

Apr 20, 2007

My server is a dual AMD x64 2.19 GHz with 8 GB RAM running under Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition with service pack 1 installed. We have SQL 2000 32-bit Enterprise installed in the default instance. AWE is enabled using Dynamically configured SQL Server memory with 6215 MB minimum memory and 6656 maximum memory settings.

I have now installed, side-by-side, SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition in a separate named instance. Everything is running fine but I believe SQL Server2005 could run faster and need to ensure I am giving it plenty of resources. I realize AWE is not needed with SQL Server 2005 and I have seen suggestions to grant the SQL Server account the 'lock pages in memory' rights. This box only runs the SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 server databases and I would like to ensure, if possible, that each is splitting the available memory equally, at least until we can retire SQL Server 2000 next year. Any suggestions?

Merge Replication Using SSL On A Windows Mobile 5.0 Device

Feb 5, 2007

Dear ppl,

I have a windows mobile 5.0 application that syncronises with SQL Sever 2005 (Merge Replication). The replication works fine without SSL. But when using SSL it doesn't work .On the device i get an error

28037, A request to send data to the computer running IIS has failed.

I have created a a Wild Card Certificate (*.domain-name.net) using Microsoft Certificate Services (Stand Alone) and setup the replication website with replication virtual directory under it , in IIS, to use this certificate. The host header for the replication site is set to "sql.domain-name.net". I have binded the host headers to the port as well.

I can access the https://sql.domain-name.net/replication/sqlcesa30.dll from remote computer and device and it says Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition Server Agent, that means it is setup correctly.

I have installed the certificate authority and its wild card certificate on the device Root Certificates. Now when I call repl.syncrhonise() from device .. it throws exception with error 28037, A request to send data to the computer running IIS has failed.

which i think means, it can't find the service url.

I am not sure what is the problem..something to do with Trust - SSL certificates... Is there any thing i am missing ?

Awaiting,

And now also a Psion WorkAboutPro with CE 5 that should run SQL Server Compact Edition.

The industrial computer syncs its data with the server, basically saying "this has happened".

Now I want the Psion to sync with the industrial computer, but this sync must two-way.

I have tried to find a guide or something that can tell me "do this to sync" but the information i have found is sketchy at best.

If someone could point me in the right direction of a guide or something else it would be much appreciated.

Error - Attempted To Read Or Write Protected Memory

Aug 22, 2007

Hi,

I am back with one more problem..

I have created few reports using SSRS 2005. I am using Oracle database in Data Source to fetch my data. It is working fine and showing me report correctly. But after running the report 8 to 10 times, it starts giving me Memory error. To get rid of that, I need to recycle (stop-start) ReportingService from IIS.

I am exactly getting following error...

Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.

I am not getting the actual problem, why is it giving memory error only after running few times? Please let me know if anyone facing same problem or knowing the solution for the problem.

Thanks,

Attempted To Read Or Write Protected Memory Error In SSIS

Cannot get supported data types from the database connection

"Provider=Sybase.ASEOLDEDBProvider;Password=;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=sa;Data Source=sybase;Initial Catalog=OurTestDatabase"

Additional information

|_ Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. (System.Data)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The same data source worked with DTS when we thought we'd convert to MS SQL Server 2000. Is this a bug in SSIS? What can be done? Using ".Net Framework Provider for ODBC" is not a good option because this doesn't allow me to choose any tables from the Sybase source.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Windows 2003 Memory Question

Mar 10, 2004

Hi all, new to the forum.

I am in the process of building a 3+1 Win2k3 cluster with SQL 2000. Once I got through all the funky install issues, everything is running great. In fact, working with the new cluster services has been such a breath of fresh air compared even to Win2K. The SAN abilities of W2K3 with on the fly drive additions and such are just awesome.

Anyway, the issue I am seeing has to do with memory. The boxes all have 8gb. First thing I noticed was Win2K3 seems to automatically enable the /PAE option. It's not in the boot.ini but the server "knows" it is using AWE support, which is fine. What confuses me is if I give SQL (awe enabled) a fixed 7.5gb of RAM to play with, it seems to actually use it, without the 3gb option or any regard for the OS. I was able to push it to 7.9gb leaving the OS about 50mb and it allowed it, or at least it looks like it allows it. Target and total memory counters for SQL Memory show it using the full 7.9gb, but taskmgr shows SQL using 80mb. I seem to remember reading that this is normal somewhere; taskmgr can't accurate display memory use. The available physical memory in taskmgr does reflect that all physical ram is in use.

Adding the PAE and 3GB options to the boot.ini appears to have made no impact. Almost like they were already there anyway?

Can anyone explain Win2k3 and SQL 2000 memory stuff to me? I feel dumb right now.

Thanks!

4 GB Memory For SQL 2005 Std + Windows 2003 Std

Jul 31, 2007

We just upgraded the memory of our database server from 2GB to 4GB. And its OS is windows 2003 standard and sql is 2005 standard edition. My question is : Do I need to do anything(such as: adjust the maximum memory in management studio) to let our server be able to consume this extra 2 GB memory?

Does this solution http://support.microsoft.com/kb/274750 apply for SQL server 2005?

Volatile Storage

Feb 16, 2007

I am new to windows mobile development, and I am looking to create an application (C#) which uses the SQL server CE. I am curious what to do about data loss. I have a Windows Mobile 2003 PDA, which means half of my storage is main memory (volatile) and the other is built in storage (no volatile).

I expect I would want to install my application to the main memory, along with the database. I Planned to give the user the abililty to select a subset of properties for running the application and storing them in the DB for running. But if the user's battery runs out I wouldn't want them to loose all of the information in the database (ie configurable property selections chosen by the user).

If the user looses the application, I plan to have them reinstall it (which would recreate the database). But I would like them to be able to load a 'configuration' file from their Built in storage area when the app is reinstalled, so that they don't loose all of their settings.

Expererience with this? or reccomendations on how to go about it?

Minimum Memory Requirments To Run SQL 2005 Workstation On Windows XP

I need a link to backup my argument.

This link wont help

As it doesn't specify workstation requirments to run SQL 2005.

Memory Sizing For A SQL 2000 Cluster - Windows 2003 Enterprise SP1

Oct 4, 2007

I am looking for some recommendations for memory sizing and options for a SQL 2000 Cluster. This is a two node cluster built on Windows 2003 ENT SP1 (x86). Both the nodes have the following hardware:

- 4 x Dual Core AMD Processors
- 16 GB Memory
- EMC Shared Disk

We are running six SQL 2000 instances and don't expect each of these instances to use more than 1.7 GB of memory. All these instances are going to support BizTalk 2004 Databases. I already have /PAE enabled on the nodes. I am looking for the following answers:

- Do I need to enable AWE on all the instances even if the instances ? Currently, we don't have that enabled and we have seen some issues regarding excessive paging even when there is physical memory available. The DBAs think that we don't need to enable AWE. I am bit confused on this one.

- We normally run 3 instances on each node and would like size the cluster in such a way that it can take six instances in case of a node failure

Any input will be highly appreciated.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.
For example:
<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>
When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Expanding Tempdb In A Device Prevents The Device From Being Deleted

Nov 17, 1998

I have a database in development in SQL Server 6.5 that needs to be occasionally deleted and rebuilt from a script when table structures are changed. I found that when very complex queries were performed, the 2 MB default size of tempdb filled up and returned errors, so I went to the Enterprise Manager to expand tempdb, learned that I had to first expand a device to expand tempdb into, and foolishly chose to expand tempdb into the same device space used by my application, instead of into one of the system databases. Now when I try to delete the device in preparation for its rebuild, the Enterprise Manager responds with an error message saying the device can't be deleted because it contains system tables. Is there any way to get the expanded portion of tempdb out of my application device so that the device can be deleted, without reinstalling SQL Server?
