I am applying hourly differential backup to the backup server from production with the following command. This command makes the database on standby server into read only mode.

'd:ardataarsystem.mdf' ,

Now I want to run a command which will put the database in write mode. I have created a job which would make the datbase Write mode. This job runs successfully sometimes and fails sometimes. I need to ensure that the job always succeeds. When it fails, how do I troubleshoot and what is the possible fix?

This code was originally programmed in the SQL Server ActiveX Task type in a DTS package designed to take an open-ended number of SQL statements generated by another task as input, then execute each SQL statement sequentially. Upon this code's success, move on to the next step. (Of course, there was no additional documentation with this code. :-)
Based on other postings, I attempted to push this code into a Visual Studio BI 2005 Script Task with the following change:

I get the following error when I attempt to compile this:
Error 30209: Option Strict On requires all variable declarations to have an 'As' clause.
I am new to Visual Basic, so I'm on a learning curve here. From what I know of this script:
- The variables here violate the new Option Strict On requirement in VS 2005 to declare what type of object your variable is supposed to use.
- I need to explicitly declare each object, unless I turn off the Option Strict On (which didn't seem recommended, based on what I read).

I tried to backup the master key by the following syntax :
OPEN MASTER KEY DECRYPTION BY PASSWORD = 'mypassword'
BACKUP MASTER KEY TO FILE = 'c: empmaster' ENCRYPTION BY PASSWORD = 'mypassword'
but it failed and i got the following message:
Cannot write into file 'c: empmaster'. Verify that you have write permissions, that the file path is valid, and that the file does not already exist.
NB: I am using the "sa" user to execute this command.
I know that we have a security permission issue , but where and how ?

Can Windows 2003 Server Backup Utility Be Used To Backup A SQL 2000 Dbase
Dec 28, 2007Windows 2003 backup utility uses the shadow copy option that allows it to copy open files.
Therefore, can I use this utility to backup the .mdf and .ldf files for my SQL 2000 database?
I can then attach the .mdf files if I need to restore the database to another server.
Can anyone tell me if this is safe? I've tried it and it worked but I'm worried there maybe some lurking danger in using this approach.

Since we are using compact edition, we are hoping we can write some common module with the same code that could works on both mobile device and pc platform. I noticed the reference is the same, System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll 3.0.
Another question is, we already have a module for SQLCE2.0, with .net CF1.0. Now, we will start to use compact edition, should we just update on the 1.0 one, or we have to write a different one based on .net CF2.0? Can I use compact edition in CF1.0 dll?

I use System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection and System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand to make the connections to the database and do selects and updates. Is it correct to continue to use these against SQL Server 2005? I ask because I made a connection string (outside of .Net) for SqlServer 2005 using the SQL native provider and it had the following - Provider=SQLNCLI.1 and any connection strings I had made (also outside of ASP.NET) fro SQL Server all used Provider=SQLOLEDB.1. This is why I wondered if there is a different SqlClient in .Net 2.0 for SQL Server 2005?

SQL Server Express Code On MSDE/SQL Server 2000
Jun 21, 2005hi - I am developing locally using .Net 2.0/Access but just recently started trying out SQL Server Express. I have deployed my application to a host who provides 2.0 but as would be expected only MSDE/SQL server 2000. Now if I'd switch completely to SSE, would my SQL queries (which are pretty simple) work on MSDE or SQL server 2000? The only thing I see as more sophisticated sql queries would be the built-in 2.0 Roles/Membership functions... Do you think they would run smoothly on MSDE/SQL 2000?Finally... since the database is already done locally, is there any way (a stored procedure for example) to copy it's scheme if I'd create a new DB on my host's SQL server?

Jun 27, 2005My DB recently goes weird after the Hard Disk failed and replaced last week.
The SQL have 3 database running on my computer, DB1, DB2 and DB3.
my computer has Disk C and Disk D, they both work fine that i can save and delete on them both.
But now, the database backup of DB1 fails everytime, first i thoguth it's the Hard DIsk's problem, but after i tried to backup the other DB (DB2 and DB3) on Disk D, it works fine....therefore...i am here...without any idea.
What even weird is, I can backup my DB1 on Disk C without any problem, but just can't do it on Disk C.
Can anyone help ~ thank you

that says, that sp_vupgrade_replication culd't run successfully...

Mar 6, 2007I am trying to backup a database thro' enterprise manager and the msg I am getting is 'SQL Server Agent on target server (local) is stopped. Make sure it is running during the scheduled execution of this job.'
I tried logging into Query Analyzer and I am able to - so the server is up and running. I am not sure what I am missing.
