How Will I Know The Rows Being Saved By SSIS Package Into Tables
Jul 17, 2007
Hi Guys,
Yet another question again on the issues with SSIS. I have a package now which is working fine.
The package consists of a control flow and i have 2 DF tasks which are unionall first and then saved into a sql server destination.
It's fine up to this point but i've just been notified that i would need to generate 2 files based on different values after i combined the data from 2 sql server DF tasks.
My question is how can i know the rows which are being saved on this sql server destination.
I have a primary key which is an autoincrement column.
Thank you
Gemma

Hi i tried designing a SSIS package which loads only those rows which were different from existing rows in the table , i need to timestamp the existing row with an inactive date when a update of that row is inserted (ex: same studentID )
and the newly inserted row with a insert time stamp
so as to indicate the new row as currently active, in short i need to maintain history and current rows in same table , i tried using slowly changing dimension but could not figure out, anyone experience or knowledge regarding the Data loads please respond.
example of Data would be like
exisiting data
StudentID Name AGE Sex ADDRESS INSERTTIME UPDATETIME
12 DDS 14 M XYZ ST 2/4/06 NULL
14 hgS 17 M ABC ST 3/4/07 NULL
New row to insert would be
12 DDS 15 M DFG ST 4/5/07
the data should reflect
StudentID Name AGE Sex ADDRESS INSERTTIME UPDATETIME
12 DDS 14 M XYZ ST 2/4/06 4/5/07
12 DDS 15 M DFG ST 4/5/07 NULL
14 hgS 17 M ABC ST 3/4/07 NULL
Please provide your input as much as you can even though it might not be a 100% solution.

I copied and added an existing package as a new package to a project and have been having trouble with settings reverting to those for the original package after I modify and save the changes for the new package. Sometimes happens with the save itself, other times it happens when I close and re-open the package. Most cases are with connections that revert back to the original file reference, but there are also control flow and data flow elements that keep reverting back to either settings from the original package or defaults that result in the re-opened package being in error. Not sure how to get around this issue short of developing the new package from scratch which I'd rather not do since it is fairly complex. Any help anyone can provide is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,
I am facing a problem. I have custom data flow transformation. We have saved a package using component's earlier assembly version. Now when we install later version of the component the saved package fails to open. If I try creating new package it succeeds.
Error message :
Error 1 Validation error. Data Flow Task: DTS.Pipeline: The component metadata for "component "Oracle Destination" (153)" could not be upgraded to the newer version of the component. The PerformUpgrade method failed. Package.dtsx 0 0
We tried overriding "perform upgrade" method but still I am facing the same issue.

Yes, I created an saved a package, found it in the MSDB database (after connecting to Integration services) but can't figure out how to open it to see the control and data flow tabs. (BIDS can open a File or Analysis Service project so I don't see how to access the package from there.)
Please advise.

When i click upload image button when my database table has no any row, the selected image is saved(one row saved in table). If i continue and select a different image, i get no error sa if the image has been saved but when i view the images i have been saving, its strange even if i saved 10 records they all contain the first image that i saved. In short only the first image is saved the rest of the rows are just duplicates of the first row. so it basically becomes a table of ten rows but with same data rows(same image). Code is below.

The challenge: I have to extract and convert data between 2 SQL server systems - only 4 tables on the source systems, 8 tables on the target system. Source tables have between 5,000 rows and 16,000,000 rows. For most of the tables (for example Customer, which goes into 4 target tables), there will be 1 row in target tables for each row in the mapped source system table - so my 13.5M customer rows will end up as around 40M rows across the 4 target tables. So far, so good. But - this is a 24x7 online retail web-site, and to get the data across as a clean process, we require the smallest possible duration.
I have progressed on the customer migration, and am testing on a test environment (2xdual core HT processors, 4 GB ram) which was 2.15 million rows. Live environment is likely to be a 4xdual core with 8-16 GB ram.
I am trying to optimize the extract data flow, and have read the SSISperfTuning doc. I am now trying to put that into practice.
I have a row size of approx 340 bytes, so based on that, and my test environment of 2.15 million rows, I work out at around 700 MB ram required to buffer the data. That is a factor of 7 times greater than the max buffer space for a data flow of 100 MB, which it seems, means I should divide the base MaxBufferRows (10000) by 7 to go down to 1400 rows?
I see a LOT of the following messages in my progress, when running with default settings:
[DTS.Pipeline] Information: The buffer manager detected that the system was low on virtual memory, but was unable to swap out any buffers. 30 buffers were considered and 30 were locked. Either not enough memory is available to the pipeline because not enough is installed, other processes are using it, or too many buffers are locked.
The design of the data flow at the moment is:
..........................................|--target table 1
SOURCE SP ---- MULTICAST---|--target table 2
..........................................|--target table 3
..........................................|--target table 4
any thoughts on Buffer tweaking, corrections to my assumption and other hints/techniques?

I have a ssis package which identifies duplicate records in access database. I have staged access database into sql sever and created ssis package. Now, I have final list of records which needs to be delete from access database and new records which are to be inserted into access database.Â
What do I need to do if I want to delete those duplicate records directly from access database using SSIS. I cannot truncate whole access database and reload. I just have to delete duplicate rows from access db and add new records.

I am copying a simple table from a Sql Server 2005 database to an *.sdf mobile database.
I am brand new to SSIS and I am probably doing something wrong. But after executing the SSIS package all the rows and all the fields are NULL in the destination database. I put a datagrid viewer between the OLE DB Source and the Sql Server compact edition destination and I can see the real data which is obviously not ALL NULL.
Does anyone have a clue as to why it would be doing this?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks...

I need to create a fairly simple package. And almost because of the simplicity, I'm stumped.
I need to copy all non-system tables from server1.database1 to server2.database2. Additionally, four of the 30+ tables need to be renamed on the fly -- i.e. their name will reflect the year and month that the copy takes place.
I've tried using the Transfer SQL Server Object Task to simply copy the tables, but I get flaky results at best with it. Sometimes it tells me the source table doesn't exist, when I can clearly see it (and I've selected it from the list). And even though I have turned on the Include Indexes option, they don't always come through.
I'm wondering if I need to do a For Each loop looking at an ADO object?
Any suggestions?
Stephanie

I have a SSIS package running well in production however sometimes the package will fail when the excel file contains more than 25000+ rows.
The SSIS package is run by SQL Server Agent and is set to run in 32bit mode.
I checked the data by loading in batches and all data loaded successfully. But the funny thing is when I run the same package on my local development PC using BIDS and the same data file. The package loads all 25000+ rows successfully.
Is there some setting that is preventing all rows loading in the server environment.

Hi,
I want to create a local temporary table in execute sql task and and want to use the same in Data flow task as source table.
I follow the following steps to achieve this:
01. Created a new SSIS package
02. Create a connection string to "(local)/." server, "tempdb" database
03. Set the "RetainSameConnection" property value to "TRUE"
04. Set the "DelayValidation" to "TRUE", where ever I found this property
04. In Control Flow I added to items
a. Execute SQL Task
b. Data Flow Task
05. For "Execute SQL task" I set the connection to "tempdb"
06. I written the following query
Create table #transfer_CompaniesToProcess_tbl
(
companyID int not null
)
GO
07. In Data Flow task I added "OLE DB Source" and "OLE DB Destination"
08. In "OLE DB Source" I changed the "Data access mode:" to "SQL command"
09. In "SQL command text:" I entered "select * from #transfer_CompaniesToProcess_tbl"
10. When I clicked on the "OK" button; I ended with following error:
TITLE: Microsoft Visual Studio
------------------------------
Error at Data Flow Task [OLE DB Source [1]]: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E14.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

I gone through the following article and it seems I missed some thing.

I need to export multiple tables from a database to multiple csv files (one for each table).
Rather than use SSIS and have multiple OLEDB sources and destinations (one for each table), is there a way to have a generic package that will export all the tables in the database ?
One way I can see is to use BCP in a loop - with the loop powered by a select statement that links to something like sys.tables etc, (or another table that i prepped with just the tables I want if I dont want them all).
i.e I would use a stored procedure that uses BCP (called via XPcmdShell) - so not via SSIS - although I could wrap up the whole thing in SSIS - but there is no realy need.

Hi Folks,
My situation is that Excel files are to be downloaded into a SQL Server 2005 table (perhaps as type image or nvarchar), which serves as a document repository. From there, they should be converted to XML. Use of an NT file directory is strongly discouraged. I would like to have SSIS read the Excel from one field in a table and then write the XML into another field in the same (or perhaps another) table. Is this possible? If not, is the a strait-forward way to do this?
Also, I€™m hoping to invoke the SSIS script from a SQL Server INSERT trigger so the conversion is done during the INSERT.
Thanks,
Rob

Please can anybody help me in transferring existing SSIS Packages saved in a shared folder location from development server 2ED to Live server TWD1.
Both has SQL server 2005 running and has visual studio 2005
Currently about 25 SSIS packages are executed from the development server transferring data on Live server TWD1...these ETL process is called from development server but executed on live server.
Now the problem is when i call these packages from the shared folder from live server it crashes.....i need to changes something to shift the whole package to the live server..and execute on live server itself instead of recreating the whole 25 process from scratch.....also i use optimize for many tables ..and run in a single trancastion....so how can i see the mappings of source and destination tables.
Please let me know the process how i can achieve this.
Thanks

As we are running first package by job, job runs successfully logging above error
The protection level of second package is set to "EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey"
Can anybody please suggest how to handle it?

Environment:
Running this code on my PC via VS 2005
.Net version 2.0.50727 on the server (shown in IIS)
Code is in ASP.NET 2.0 and is a VB.NET Console application
SSIS 2005
Problem & Info:
I am bringing in an Excel file. I need to first strip out any non-detail rows such as the breaks you see with totals and what not. I should in the end have only detail rows left before I start moving them into my SQL Table. I'm not sure how to first strip this information out in SSIS specfically how down to the right component and how to actually code the component to do this based on my Excel file here: http://www.webfound.net/excelfile.xls
Then, I assume I just use a Flat File Source coponent or something to actually take the columns in the Excel and split into an OLE DB Datasource to shove each column into a corresponding column in my SQL Server Table. I have used a Flat File Source in the past to do so with a comma delimited txt file but never tried with an Excel.
Desired Help:
How to perform
1) stripping out all undesired rows
2) importing each column into sql table

I have a SSIS job, one of the last steps it performs is to execute a SQL 2000 DTS package. This has to be done as a SQL 2000 DTS package as it is performing rebuilds of SQL 2000 Analysis Services dimensions and cubes. We've found that when the DTS fails the SSIS job is happily completing showing as a success, we would prefer to know it went wrong.
As far as I'm aware SSIS merely starts the DTS off and doesn't care about it's result. I've taken a look in to turning on the logging for the execute DTS package and thought that the ExecuteDTS80PackageTaskTaskResult would give me the answer I need...but is merely written to the log not available as an event-handler. It also looks like it is not safe to put a SQL task in as the next item to go look at the SQL 2000 system tables to look at the log for the DTS package as the SSIS documentation warns that the DTS package can continue to run after the execute DTS package task has ended.
Ideally I want any error raised within the DTS package to cascade up to be an error in the SSIS job, I can then handle it appropriately. I cannot find a way to do this. Is there a way?
If not, can anyone suggest how in the remainder of the SSIS tasks I can be sure that the DTS has completed before I start any other tasks that will check for the SQL 2000 log of its execution?

Hi All,
I am in the process of moving from a 32-bit SQL Server 2005 Enterprise (9.0.3054) to a 64-bit SQL Server 2005 Enterprise (9.0.3054 with 4 CPUs and 8GB of memory on Win 2003 SP2) and the process has been very frustrating to say the least. I am having a problem with packages that I created on my 64-bit SQL Server. I am importing a few tables from the 32-SQL Server into the 64-bit SQL Server using the Task --> Import to create the package.
Sometimes when I am creating a package I get the following error in a message box:
SQL Server Import and Export Wizard
The SSIS Runtime object could not be created. Verify that DTS.dll is available and registered. The wizard cannot continue and it will terminate.
Additional information: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. (System.Windows.Forms)
Other times when I run a package that has run successfully before I get the following error:
Faulting application dtexecui.exe, version 9.0.3042.0, stamp 45cd726d, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, stamp 00000000, debug? 0, fault address 0x025d23f0.
Other times I get this error message:
.NET Runtime version 2.0.50727.1433 - Fatal Execution Engine Error (79FFEE24) (80131506)
And still other times
The package appears to hang when running. By this I mean that the Package Execution Progress shows progress up to a point then it just stops. (The package takes about 17 seconds to run normally) CPU usage is at 1% and the package cannot be stopped.
I have deleted and re-created the package several times and I have also re-installed the service pack on the SQL Server (9.0.3054) but that did not help.
Does anyone have any other suggestions to try?
Thanks.

I would like to standardize SSIS development so that developers all start with the same basic template. I have set it up so it is an available template ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908018 ) but I would like it to be the default when a new project or package is created. Is this an option?
