Using The SQLDMO Reference To Create SQL Stored Procedures On-The-Fly And Execute

Nov 6, 2007

I surfed a lot of the internet piecing this together. I have a database that gets copied every night from a live database so users can run queries against it, so I needed to be able to recreate a stored procedure from within ASP.NET. Also, I needed to take information I was importing from a .CSV file and compare it using the stored procedure to find specific information and import it into another database. I was able to do this using the SQLDMO reference object.
 Here are some clipits of what you need.
Imports SQLDMOPrivate myServer As New SQLServer
Dim serverName As String = System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.AppSettings("Server").ToString()Dim userName As String = System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.AppSettings("UserName").ToString()
Dim password As String = System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.AppSettings("Password").ToString()
Dim storedProcedure As New StoredProcedure
 Dim qresults As SQLDMO.QueryResults
Example Stored Procedure
Try
myServer.Connect(serverName, userName, password)
storedProcedure.Text = "IF EXISTS (SELECT * FROM sysobjects WHERE name='memb_proc' AND user_name(uid)='dbo') DROP PROCEDURE dbo.memb_proc"myServer.Databases.Item("<databasename>", "dbo").StoredProcedures.Add(storedProcedure)
storedProcedure.Text = "CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.memb_proc @lastname varchar(50) = '', @firstname varchar(50) = '', @zip varchar(5) = '', @membrowno varchar(50) OUTPUT AS Select @membrowno = rowno from memb where lastname LIKE @lastname and name LIKE @firstname and zip1 LIKE @zip "myServer.Databases.Item("<databasename>", "dbo").StoredProcedures.Add(storedProcedure)
Label1.Text = "Creation of stored procedure successful"Catch ex As Exception
Label1.Text = "Creation of stored procedure failed"
Finally
myServer.DisConnect()End Try
 Run Stored Procedure and Obtain Results
myServer.Connect(serverName, userName, password)
qresults = myServer.ExecuteWithResults("USE [databasename] DECLARE @return_value int,@membrowno varchar(50) EXEC @return_value = [dbo].[memb_proc] @lastname = N'" & Last & "', @firstname = N'" & First & "',@zip = N'" & ZIP & "', @membrowno = @membrowno OUTPUT SELECT @membrowno as N'@membrowno'")For num = 1 To qresults.Rows
MemberRowNo = qresults.GetColumnString(num, 1)
Next
myServer.DisConnect()

User 'Unknown User' Could Not Execute Stored Procedure - Debugging Stored Procedure Using Visual Studio .net

Sep 13, 2007

Hi all,

I am trying to debug stored procedure using visual studio. I right click on connection and checked 'Allow SQL/CLR debugging' .. the store procedure is not local and is on sql server.

Whenever I tried to right click stored procedure and select step into store procedure> i get following error

"User 'Unknown user' could not execute stored procedure 'master.dbo.sp_enable_sql_debug' on SQL server XXXXX. Click Help for more information"

I am not sure what needs to be done on sql server side

We tried to search for sp_enable_sql_debug but I could not find this stored procedure under master.

Some web page I came accross says that "I must have an administratorial rights to debug" but I am not sure what does that mean?

Please advise..

Thank You

Getting Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object In Execute SQL Task

Jun 6, 2007

When I try and parse a simple execute of a stored procedure in the Execute SQL Task Editor, I get the error:

"Object reference not set to an instance of an object"

Now, I ONLY get this error on my laptop, so I'm assuming it might be an installation error. I've tried to do the exact same thing in other environments, and received no error. Here's what I'm doing:

1. I create a simple stored procedure on a SQL 2005 database. Here's what it does:

create proc usp_testsp

as

begin

select 'whatever' ;

end

2. I create a new SSIS package in BIS.

3. I create an ADO.NET connection to the above SQL 2005 database

4. I pull over an Execute SQL Task item from the toolbox to the Control Flow tab.

5. I choose the ADO.NET connectiontype, the connection I created in #2, SQLSourceType of Direct input, SQLStatement is: exec usp_testsp, IsQueryStoredProcedure set to True. And I try ResultSet as both Single row and None

When I try to Parse the Query, I get the above error. If I still try to run the task in the debugger, here's what I get with the ResultSet set to None:

Error: 0xC002F210 at Execute SQL Task, Execute SQL Task: Executing the query "exec usp_testsp" failed with the following error: "Could not find stored procedure 'exec usp_testsp'.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.

And just so you know, I can execute the sp with no problems. And just to check, I granted execute to public on the sp.

And here's what I get with ResultSet set to Single row:

Error: 0xC00291E2 at Execute SQL Task, Execute SQL Task: There is an invalid number of result bindings returned for the ResultSetType: "ResultSetType_SingleRow".

I only get this on my laptop. I have SQL Server 2005 SP2 Developer Edition on Windows XP Professional, SP2.

Thanks,

Michael

EXECUTE SQL TASK --&&> Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object

Jun 27, 2007

Hi all,

Does anyone see the error below before?
I am using SSIS Execute SQL Task (ADO.NET) to update a table using a stored procedure.
It works like this many times for me and all of a sudden, not sure what is changing in the environment, I kept getting this WARNING when I click on PARSE QUERY
€œObject Reference Not Set to An Instance of an Object€? when I click on PARSE QUERY.

This is going against SQL SERVER 2005 SP2 x64 Enterprise.

Note that this task executes fine and the stored procedure updates data.

The stored procedure does the following.
There are other stored procedures of different kinds and they all worked.
But all of them give this error when I click on PARSE QUERY.

Code Snippet
DECLARE @TodayDate datetime
SET @TodayDate = GETDATE()

Exec dbo.updDimBatch
@BatchKey = @BatchKey,
@ParentBatchKey = @ParentBatchKey,
@BatchName = 'Load Customer Increment',
@BatchStartDate = NULL,
@BatchEndDate = @TodayDate,
@StatusKey = NULL,
@RowsInserted = @Count_Insert,
@RowsUpdated = @Count_Update,
@RowsException = NULL,
@RowsError = NULL,
@UpdatedDate = @TodayDate,
@BatchDescription = NULL

OLEDB Sample also give me syntax error

exec dbo.updDimBatch ?,?,'Load Activity Increment','6/27/2007','6/27/2007',1,?,?,0,0,'6/27/2007',''

I tried to change to OLEDB and call the stored procedure like this but got syntax error?

Not sure what is the error here.

Execute Stored Procedure From Stored Procedure With Parameters

May 16, 2008

Hello,
I am hoping there is a solution within SQL that work for this instead of making round trips from the front end. I have a stored procedure that is called from the front-end(USP_DistinctBalancePoolByCompanyCurrency) that accepts two parameters and returns one column of data possibly several rows. I have a second stored procedure(USP_BalanceDateByAccountPool) that accepts the previous stored procedures return values. What I would like to do is call the first stored procedure from the front end and return the results from the second stored procedure. Since it's likely I will have more than row of data, can I loop the second passing each value returned from the first?
The Stored Procs are:
CREATE PROCEDURE USP_DistinctBalancePoolByCompanyCurrency
@CID int,
@CY char(3)
AS
SELECT Distinct S.BalancePoolName
FROM SiteRef S
INNER JOIN Account A ON A.PoolId=S.ID
Inner JOIN AccountBalance AB ON A.Id = AB.AccountId
Inner JOIN AccountPool AP On AP.Id=A.PoolId
Where A.CompanyId=@CID And AB.Currency=@CY

CREATE PROCEDURE USP_BalanceDateByAccountPool
@PoolName varchar(50)
AS
Declare @DT datetime
Select @DT=
(Select MAX(AccountBalance.DateX) From Company Company
INNER JOIN Account Account ON Company.Id = Account.CompanyId
INNER JOIN SiteRef SiteRef ON Account.PoolId = SiteRef.ID
Inner JOIN AccountBalance AccountBalance ON Account.Id = AccountBalance.AccountId
WHERE SiteRef.BalancePoolName = @PoolName)
SELECT SiteRef.BalancePoolName, AccountBalance.DateX, AccountBalance.Balance
FROM Company Company
INNER JOIN Account Account ON Company.Id = Account.CompanyId
INNER JOIN SiteRef SiteRef ON Account.PoolId = SiteRef.ID
Inner JOIN AccountBalance AccountBalance ON Account.Id = AccountBalance.AccountId
WHERE SiteRef.BalancePoolName = @PoolName And AccountBalance.DateX = @DT
Order By AccountBalance.DateX DESC

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Dave

Looping Through Each Row In An XML Object Sent To A Stored Procedure

Jun 27, 2007

I have an XML object (sent as a string, received as an XML datatype) that's in a Stored Procedure. Each row in the XML file will have 1 value from it inserted into one of three tables. Trouble With Stored Procedure (Invalid Object Name)

Mar 31, 2005

I am having a bit of trouble with a stored procedure on the SQL Server that my web host is running.
The stored procedure I have created for testing is a simple SELECT statement:
SELECT * FROM table
This code works fine with the query tool in Sqlwebadmin. But using that same code from my ASP.NET page doesn't work, it reports the error "Invalid object name 'table'". So I read a bit more about stored procedures (newbie to this) and came to the conslusion that I need to write database.dbo.table instead.
But after changing the code to SELECT * FROM database.dbo.table, I get the "Invalid object name"-error in Sqlwebadmin too.
The name of the database contains a "-", so I write the statements as SELECT * FROM [database].[dbo].[table].
Any suggestions what is wrong with the code?
I have tried it locally with WebMatrix and MSDE before I uploaded it to the web host and it works fine locally, without specifying database.dbo.

Stored Procedure Won't List In 'Object Explorer' Window

Mar 25, 2008

I saved a stored procedure (see below) and I'm not seeing listed within the 'Databases' / 'Remote_Serials' (DB name) / 'Programmability' / 'Stored Procedures' folder within the 'Object Explorer' window.

I'm trying to perform a simple add-info-from-form-into-DB process.

Is it because of the way I put together the procedure? I have a feeling that it is (was going off a video demo, which created it within VB.NET 2008 Express, but I'm not able to connect to the DB from there; it says the file is open, when I completely closed out of SQL Management Studio Express).

Code Snippet
ALTER PROCEDURE dbo.spInsertSerialInfo
@EmployeeID as nchar(10),
@First_Name as nvarchar(50),
@Last_Name as nvarchar(50),
@HAddress as nvarchar(50),
@City as nvarchar(30),
@HState as nvarchar(2),
@Zip as nvarchar(10),
@Phone_Home as nchar(15),
@Phone_Cell as nchar(15),
@Monitor1 as nvarchar(50),
@Monitor2 as nvarchar(50),
@PIX_ASA_Box as nvarchar(50),
@System_Case as nvarchar(50),
@Batt_APC as nvarchar(50),
@current_count as int OUTPUT

AS

INSERT RemSerials (EmployeeID,
First_Name,
Last_Name,
HAddress,
City,
HState,
Zip,
Phone_Home,
Phone_Cell,
Monitor1,
Monitor2,
PIX_ASA_Box,
System_Case,
Batt_APC)

VALUES (@EmployeeID,
@First_Name,
@Last_Name,
@HAddress,
@City,
@HState,
@Zip,
@Phone_Home,
@Phone_Cell,
@Monitor1,
@Monitor2,
@PIX_ASA_Box,
@System_Case,
@Batt_APC)

SELECT @current_count = Count(*) From RemSerials

When trying to access the stored procedure from VB.NET 2008 Express, it says, "Could not find stored procedure 'spInsertSerialInfo'."

I'm listing the code as below.

Code Snippet
cmd.CommandText = "spInsertSerialInfo"
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
cmd.Connection = con

cmd.Parameters.Add("@EmployeeID", SqlDbType.NChar, 10).Value = txtEmployeeID.Text

If I change the 'CommandType.StoreProcedure' to 'CommandType.Text' it seems to find it, but then I get another error saying that the @EmployeeID variable has already been delcared and that I need to have a unique variable.

Any help would be greatly apreciated
