Hello,
My goal is to setup and configure the "Community MySQL server" on
my "Vista" laptop. I want to run the server and clients on the same
"machine" using the "loopback" IP addr (127.0.0.1) to talk between
MySQL clients and the MySQL server.
1) When I run the Config Wizard, I get the following message:
"The security settings could not be applied. Error number 2003.
Can't connect to the MySQL server". I checked via the Vista Task
Manager and there was a MySQL server instance running. I am probably
more of a POSIX API programmer .. in any case I remember that on
Windows 2000 that there was some kind of "system log" .. can't find it
on Vista(through the Control Panel) to get a better error message. Can
somebody point to the "system log" or help me with the error message?
2) I finally tried to run the "mysql_install_db" script to
"instantiate" a MySQL database instance. I ran this script from a
"http://www.cygwin.com" shell because the script is a Unix script. I
got the error: "FATAL ERROR: Could not find SQL file '/
mysql_system_tables.sql' in @pkgdatadir@ or inside C:/Program."
I am trying to work through the SSRS 2005 Forms Authentication sample and have the form up and running on a W2K3 server. I am able to connect to my SQL Server and enter a username and password for the admin user, but when I return to the form to login, I receive an error on my report server.
When I check my server's event log, I see the following alert:
The Forms extension failed to read its configuration settings from the RSReportServer.config configuration file. The extension is not available to users.
My question is: do I have a permissions problem where some user cannot read the RSReportServer.config? If so, what user do I grant read access?
We are trying to deploy reporting services with SQL 2K5 SP2. In our DEV environment, all services are running on a single box. Obviously we don't want the IIS piece running on top of PRD SQL server, and want to deploy the IIS piece on our PRD web boxes, but hit our PRD SQL cluster for the data (and report srvcs databases).
Does anyone know of a whitepaper or tech doc that will describe in step by step detail how to deploy Rpt Srvcs in this way? We don't have any core competency with report services, so we're not sure how to proceed in our TST environment which must mimic our anticipate PRD deployment.
I've just set up a new installation of SQL 7 in a WinNT4/sp5 machine so I can learn more about this stuff and I'm trying to configure a Win98 client. From the Win98 client all looks well on the surface. Interestingly when I click on the server from within the Win98 MMC/Enterprise Manager it attempts to establish a dial-up connection to my ISP. The only network protocol I have running is TCP/IP.
Also, I can do what ever I want from within Enterprise Manager and SQL Analyzer but if I attempt to execute a script using the OSQL utility at a dos prompt as follows
For MS Press Book, ADO.NET 2.0 Step by Step, 2005 Edition by Rebecco Riordan, installing the code samples created a ConfigDB.exe file under SampleDBs folder. Running this exe file created a AdoStepByStep into the Database folder in SQL Server 2005 Express.
However, for ASP.NET 2.0 Step by Step, 2005 Edition, by George Shepherd, there is no Config.exe to install the ASPNETDB SQL Server 2005 Express database. I right clicked the Database folder to 'Attach' the database. But, the database just showed a 'c: ASPNETDB.MDF filfe path as a name. Further, running the aspx files in Chapters 7 and 12 showed a 'Timeout Expired' error msg, indicating something wrong with accessing the SQL Server database.
How can I run the aspx files in Chapters 7 and 12? How can I install the ASPNETDB?
I use Widows Vista Business, have uninstalled all previous versions of SQL before installing SQL 2005 Express.

Has anyone successfully used cherry's oledb provider for MYSQL to create a linked server from MS SQLserver 2005 to a Linux red hat platform running MYSQL.

Currently have a single hard coded file path to the SSRS config file which parses the file and provides the reporting services web service url. Â My question is how would i run this same query against 100s of servers that may or may not share the same file path as the one hard coded ?
Is there a way to query the registry to find the location of the config file of any server ? which could be on D, E, F, H, etc.Â
I know I can string together the address followed by "reports" and named instance if needed, but some instances may not have used the default virtual directory name (Reports).

I have an internal Project Management and Scheduling app that I wrote internally for my company. It was written to use MySQL running on a Debian server, but I am going to move it to SQL Server 2000 and integrate it with our Accounting software. The part I am having trouble with is the user login portion. I previously used this:

Apparently the password() function is not available when accessing SQL Server via ODBC. Is there an equivalent function I could use isntead so the passwords arent plaintext in the database? I only have 15 people using the system so a blank pwd reset wouldn't be too much trouble.

I have two database files, one .mdf and one .ndf. The creator of these files has marked them readonly. I want to "attach" these files to a new database, but cannot do so because they are read-only. I get this message:

i have a database which get refreshed every day from client's data . and we need to pull heavy data from them every day as reports . so only selects happens on that database.
we do daily population of some table in some other databases from this daily refreshed DB.
will read uncommitted or NOLOCK with select queries to retrieve data faster.
there will be no dirty read as there are NO DML operation in that database so for SELECT which happens concurrently on these tables , will NOLOCK work?
Is it possible to set READ UNCOMMITTED to a user connecting to an SQL2000 server instance? I understand this can be done via a front endapplication. But what I am looking to do is to assign this to aspecific user when they login to the server via any entry application.Can this be set with a trigger?
I'd like to know what's considered a best practice in the following scenario...
We're in the process of converting DTS to SSIS, our current SQL2K setup has one DTS package per database, each database and package are mirror images of each other, with the exception of connection properties and the files path's they pull from. (Occasionally there may be a one off Execute SQL Task that differs from package to package...but this will be handled in a different manner outside of the package from this point on)
From a administration perspective this has been somewhat cumbersome, as every time there is a schema change we need to update the transformations in each individual package...after updating 120 packages my index finger has a bad case of carpel tunnel!
My thought with SSIS is that I can create one package, with many configuration files (one for each database).
Now my question is, 1) is this a good idea? 2) Anytime we create a new database (New Customer = New Database) and need to create a new xml config file, do I have to create the config in BIS/SSIS package then redeploy the package?...or Can I simply add a new config file to the appropriate directory and reference this config in the scheduled job?
OK, I'm using VS2003 and I'm having trouble. The page works perfectly when I created it with WebMatrix but I want to learn more about creating code behind pages and this page doesn't work. I think it has some things to do with Query builder but I can't seem to get change outside "please register". I have the table populated and it is not coming back with "login successful" or "password wrong" when I've entered correct information. Enclosed is what I've done in VS2003. I am currently running Windows XP Professional Service Pack2. It already has MSDE & SQL Server 2000 installed (although I just uninstalled MSDE in the vain hope that it might present the installer with a more straightforward upgrade).
I have tried installing with the default instance & a new instance (I don't really care - I just need to install the darn thing). I just want the basic database & Books On-line, nothing fancy.

I suppose an error dialog (or log message) that actually told you what is wrong and then what to do is too much to ask for. (Or an installer than just copied all the files into place). :(

I have users who choose to install SQLCE into Storage Cards instead and causes the application not to function, when asked which destination to install.
I've done some search and found out about "wceload.exe /noaskdest" but I'm using NSIS to compile into a single .exe file, and its calling "CEAppMgr.exe"

I've tried looking for a solution in other threads but I couldn't find anything that was completely the same as my situation. I got a new pc at work and I've tried installing SQL Server 2005 on it but everytime I try to install it, regardless of services included or excluded with the install, I cannot get through the install without this error. I've searched for and found similar problems that deal with the microsoft.sqlserver.notificationservices.dll not being found but I haven't found a fix that worked for me. These are the fixes I've refered to thus far.
The answer that seems to fix this problem for everyone is to set the MSDTC service login as the NT AUTHORITYNetworkService account. The problem for me is that this is already set to this profile and I've tried resetting the services and rebooting the machine. I did not have a problem with my old machine, which as far as I can tell, is the same configuration, so I know this install should work.
I'm running Windows XP SP2. This is not the upgrade to SQL Server 2005 SP2, this is the original disk that came with Visual Studio 2005.
Has anyone else faced this issue where changing the MSDTC login wasn't the solution? Also, this is my first post, so I apologize if I've left anything out. Just let me know if you want any other information.
I never installed previous beta versions on my computer before. But now I have some serious problem after an incomplete de-install and a re-install of SQL server 2005 express advanced. I hope anybody can help me to solve this. Because the first installation eas not succesfull I had to do an de-install. I have tried to unstall through start/control panel/ add-remove programms and even there not all programs were removed. And that caused the problem. After that I wanted to re-install again but an msi file was missing. So I did a de-install agian. Tried to re-install again but with a lot of errors. After looking at the library I found a program: Windows Install CleanUp. I installed it and that even gives an error for all programs installed with SQL 2005. After that I ran a program called MsiInv to clean but without any succes because this program reported a run-tim error. I have all reports on my computer but don't know how to attach them. Hi,My application is acting weird and the research I've done leads me to an answer why it's breaking, but not how to fix it.My web app is hosted by a remote company. I have the main website sitting in the root web directory and in a subfolder I have another application that will handle login and updating the content in the SQL 2K5 backend (not an Express DB).The website itself is able to pull in informaiton from the DB without any trouble, so I know it's able to connect to the DB and everything is peachy. The login app though is acting as though it can't get to the DB. I've applied the ASPNET schema to the DB using the aspnet_regsql.exe from the framework and the login application is using the same connection string as the main website.One thing to note here is that the website and the login app have seperate web.config files since they were developed as different projects.With my customized provider defined in the web.config for the login app I get this error on page load:"Parser Error Message: It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS." If I comment out the custom provider, the page loads but when I try to create a user it tells me that "...the SQL Server couldn't be contacted. This may be because it doesn't accept remote connections." Thing of it is that it's not a remote connection and it's the same connection string and db as the other site.Now, the research I've done points at the two different web.config files, which makes sense. But how do I make the one web.config work for both the website and the subdirectory with the login app? Keep in mind that I can't create any new virtual directories or modify IIS since this is a remote hosting company.Can someone help me understand the fix with a little more clarity?
I'm kind of the first person at my new company to start a project using SSIS. My question(s) revolves around setup and configuration, maybe even best practices.
1. Connection Manager Config - What are some of the methods you use to config your connection managers? I was planning on creating a folder (C:SSISConfig or something) and keeping a config file for each connection there. That way it would be fairly trivial for each developer to also put said folder on there box for deving.
2. Solution set up - Are people creating solutions for each package or just using one Master solution and adding all the packages to that? Or maybe some combination, like having solutions for different areas of functionality or something..? I'm trying to figure out what the pain points are with different approaches.
If you have any other information or horror stories about SSIS that you think might help, feel free to pass them along.

I am trying to use a custom C# dll from within a script task. The C# dll relies on the Enterprise Library 2.0. Where do I put the enterprise library configuration when I am debugging a package and then when I have the package in production. I cannot find any documentation anywhere on this.

I am using vs2005 and have a solution file with 4 projects, 2 of which are presentation layers (admin sections), 1 is a business logic layer, the other a data access layer. The data access layer project is simply a class library that will provide data access functionality. Im using a dataset (xsd) to create my data access objects. My question is how do I select a connection string from the web config file (which is in each of the presentation layer projects) as the data access layer is a class library there is no web.config. Using the connection string selector in the dataset wizard doesnt show any available connection strings.
