I Can't Install Sql Server Express Using The Vs.net 2008 Installation Packet
Jan 26, 2008
Hello,
When I was installing vs.net 2008, I chose to install sql server express. But after I installed it, I found I could only see the configuration tools of sql server, but I couldn't find the sql server express service. When I ran the surface area configuration for services and connections, I msgbox came out and told me "No sql server 2005 components were found on the specified computer.....". Why?
Thanks.
Downloading and installing VS 2008 Express also created a Miscrosoft SQL Server folder. How do I install the SQL Server 2005 Express? The following is what I found from the HELP menu bar of the VS 2008 Express. Where can I find the sqlexpr.exe? TIA,Jeffrey
To install SQL Server Express To begin installation, double-click sqlexpr.exe. Note: SQL Server Express is available as a self-extracting executable file (sqlexpr.exe) from both the Visual Studio 2005 CD and the SQL Server Express Web site. SQLEXPR.EXE installs on x86-based computers and to the 32-bit subsystem (WOW64). For more information, see Hardware and Software Requirements (SQL Server Express)
I installed VS 2008 Express with an option to download SQL Server 2005 Express. I noticed there is a '90' folder under my Microsoft SQL Server folder. I assumed this the folder for SQL Server 2005 Express. How do I set up my SQL Server2005 Express, so that I can use some sample databases for my VS 2008 Express? Any difference for SQL Server 2005 Express between VS 2008 Expressdownload and SQL Server 2005 Express download? TIA,Jeffrey
Hi I need to Install the SQL server 2008 express with Instance name and Sa password parameter in silent mode . I tried couple of command line arguments for this. but It didn't work, I got the setup failure error message "The setting 'QB' specified is not recognized.Error code 0x84B40003." Can any one help me with this?
our goal is to install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP1. So far we used to install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition which resulted in the Version 9.00.1399 (basic run time machine).
We noticed that SP1 is almost the same sice as the basic run time machine. Still, we then we applied SP1. during the installation, at the window "Existing Components", the "SQL Server Database Services 9.00.1399.06 is listed with a check box. When I tick the box, the installation can continue. SP1 resulted in the version 9.00.2047. (checked on sqlservr.exe).
my question: can we install directly SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP1 without any previous SQL Server installation at all to save installation time (and errors)?
I do now that the service packs are considered "cumulative", so SP2 includes SP1, but I do not know of SP1 includes the basice runtime machine.
I installed sql server express 1st time successfully. But later I found that there's no solution explorer(there's no item under file-new called Project). To reinstall, I removed all the components completely, including engine, msee, bol, sampledb. But could not install the engine again. I've downloaded the installation files several times and tried both sqlexpr32.exe and sqlexpr_adv.exe. The same error log:

I successfully installed .NET framework v 3.5 and VWD 2008 on a new Vista laptop. When I want to add a Sql Server database to a website, errors tell me to install SS 2005 Express. MSDN SS 2005 Express download tells me I MUST first install .NET framework v 2.0 before SS 2005. When I try to install framework v 2.0, I'm sent to v. 3.5 and no way to download SS 2005.
How does one install a express sql server to run with Visual Web Developer 2008?

I've always installed SQL 2005 Dev (including the SQL Management Studio) before installing VS. Now I am trying to install just the management studio on this machine without success.
I tried installing the SQL workstation tools package from the SQL 2005 DVD but the installer detects the tools installed by SQL express (osql, etc.., but no management studio GUI) and the installer refuses to install anything else. I also tried downloading the separate installer for SQL management studio but it doesn't like something also: first thing the installer does is display this mesage:
"Installation of this product failed because it is not supported on this operating system For more information on supported configurations, see the product documentation."
Any way to do this without having to reinstall VS?
(1) I have already installed of SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition first.
(1) Can I install visual studio 2008 without the 2005 express edition of SQL server? Will be any problems because I don't have express edition of SQL server? Do I need to install the express edition of SQL server as well?
(3) How to use SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition instance on visual studio 2008?
Cool place! Has anyone deployed SQL Express silently using one click and an attached a smart client DB from within the app ... would love to see some of the best practices or horror stories! Just kidding... :) I'm about to deploy a smart client using SQL Express and could use some tips from someone who has been there.
I seem to have gotten myself between a rock and a hard place. I have tried everything I know and am sending this post as a last resort before wiping my computer drive and re-installing everything. This would not be the end of the world. All the software on my computer is registered and legal and all that, but getting things set up again is not something I look forward to. Here's the situation ..... I have been trying out SQL Server 2005 Express on a test server and have worked out all kinds of good things, including working remotely, over our network, from my computer. We decided to get the full version (SQL Server 2005 Standard) before going any further so that I could have all the cool tools and stuff. We got the full version installed on a new server
and I have been working on it using SQL Server Management Studio Express to get things started. Yesterday I decided I was ready to start going thru the tutorials for SSIS and SSAS, so I uninstalled the Express version of Management Studio and all other segments of Express that were on my local computer, got out the Standard version CDs and installed the workgroups segment on my computer. After several false-starts (re having to load things like IIS and reload .NET framework and then restart the SQL Server installation) I thought I finally made it all the way thru. During this last time thru a message popped up about not enough virtual memory, but the installation continued - so I left it going. When the "finish" screen came up and I clicked "finish", I first went to Surface Config and set things up as I had them before, then tried going to Managment Studio, but it was not in the programs list. I went back to Config. Manager and tried to see if something just needed to be turned on, or whatever, and started getting application failure errors, with a message to look at the install log. In that log there is a message about installation failure due to memory shortage. I should not be getting this problem, as far as I can tell. My hard drive has 24 gigs free and I have 1 gig of ram. In any case, I tried un-installing (thru add/remove programs) and when I do I get a failure error there too. Finally, I tried running the install again, figuring - as I have experienced on other software - that sometimes the second time thru straightens things out. No such luck, and another try at un-install gave the same results. I realize I am being somewhat vague about the error messages. I can get them if I need to, but I thought I would just toss this situation out to you all first, since it may not matter exactly what the failure messages are! Any suggestions?
Hello! Recently, I set up server with Windows Web Server 2008 RC1, SQL 2008 Express beta, .NET 3.5, IIS 7. I'm running ASP.NET web application with SQL database. Everything works fine until the first application state on the server expires. After that, any postback that starts a new application state on the server and connects to the database, results in the following error: Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed. Is this a bug that will be fixed in release of Windows / SQL or am I doing something wrong? Many thanks for help, Jan

Hello evryone The reason I am touching base is to get some informatyion about the SQL server x64 installation process. I am working on windows vista x64 and have installed the visual web developer 2008 as well as visual C# 2008 which they both are working properly . As of lateI was trying to add a SQL database to my web that I encounter an error message to have to install the SQL server 2005 express edition. I tried the available version ,however the firsrt attempt git failed since I got the wrong link which was for x32 . Again I took the x64 version available at : http://www.microsoft.com/express/sql/download/default.aspx at the most bottom of the page within the Register portion. this time I faced with error message poped as : " SQL server Native Client can not be found try installation later with a valid copy of this file." inevatably I took the SQL server 2008 express edition thread at : http://www.microsoft.com/express/sp1/download/, howeve in this attempt I can not figure out a credential account no. and password ;whatever I try can not get me pass to the next step. I need your help to get through my project which I am at the end of it . yours, Hamed.
I have been trying to install SQL Server 2005 developer version on my second laptop IBM Thinkpad Windows XP PRO, for the first time. All other components installed successfully except the database. I 've tried selecting the named instance and default instance it didn't make any difference. I have a Admin role on the laptop and as a service id I selected my user id. password and domain. I am running the setup behind my company's firewall.
The error in the log is :

I had some issues on my server and had to uninstall .Net Framework 2.0, SQL Server 2005 Express, and SQL Express Toolkit. I installed SQL Server 2005 Express and it seemed to be ok.
Then my problems all started when I tried to install SQL Express Toolkit because I needed to install DTS Wizard again, and it errors out and wouldn't let me install it. So I uninstalled everything that's listed above again.
I then tried to install SQL Server 2005 Express again, and on the second from last screen, while its listing all the components and configuring them, I get the following error as it's configuring the last component... which was the SQL Server Database Services.
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup ----------------------------------------------------------- The SQL Server service failed to start. For more information, see the SQL Server Books Online topics, "How to: View SQL Server 2005 Setup Log Files" and "Starting SQL Server Manually."
I tried to re-install the SQL Server Express another 7 times wth no luck.
If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it.
I'm getting an error while trying to install SQL Server Express 2005 Express Edition. I'm attaching the log of the installation process here. Please throw some light on the same.

I am new to this sql server thing. And for last couple of days i m trying to figure out whether we can install sql server 2000 ent edition in a server after installing or upgrading sql server 2005 from (sql server 2000) . As sql server 2005 is know to exist side by side with earlier sql server versions .
And coming to the problem which i m facing is , I have installed sql server 2005 ent in windows 2000 server in which sql server 2000 is residing.Later when i observerd i realised that actually i have upgraded 2000 to sql 2005 server (which i hav done after consulting many people). As a result few of the client systems which were running sql server personal edition were unable to access their data from the database. For temporary relief i have installed sql server 2005 express edition plus management studio in the client systems . The doubts which i am having are
1) what happens if i uninstall sql server 2005 2) Is it possible to install sql server 2000 ent edition now to work along with sql server 2005
thanks in advance .....waiting for your quick replies ..any idea's
I downloaded the SSEUtilSetup.EXE and extracted the SSEUtil.exe to a folder of C:drive of my PC that is Windows XP Pro. I plan to learn the CLR programming via user-instance of SQL Server Express. I need to have SQL Server Express Utility installed. Please help and tell me how I can install SSEUtil.exe in my PC and how I use it to interact with SQL Server Express.
I have got problems with installation of a default instance on SQL Server 2008 on Vista Home Premium. During the step of Server Configuration you should enter UserName and password for each service. I do not know what user name to type. I tried every possible combination but the outcome is always the same - after typing usernames and passwords, installation suddenly fails without casting any exception. I'm not sure if I do something wrong (wrong User Name or Password) or is it a problem with installation application or with OS. Please, help.
When I try to install either SQL Server 2005 SP2 or SQL Server 2008 CTP 2 on a trial copy of Windows Server 2008 Web Edition I get no error messages but the SQL engines are not installed. I have been informed that the SQL Server restriction in place for Windows Server 2003 Web Edition is no longer in place for the 2008 version.
I'm trying to install SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition 64-bit on a 64-bit instance of Windows 2008 running as Server Core. I read about an issue in KB article 920201, but I don't even get that far. The setup first tries to install .NET Framework 2.0, which fails with error message: Error 70243 installing .NET Framework 2.0
I tried installing .NET Framework separately, which indicates that I need to install Internet Explorer 5.01. I'm reluctant to try that, so I'd like to know if the people that actually got to the issue in KB920201 installed IE first (is that even possible?).
I installed VS 2008 Express wi th an option to download SQL Server 2005 Express. I noticed there is a '90' folder under Microsoft SQL Server. How can I set up SQL Server 2005 Express, so that I can use some sample databases for VS 2008 Express?
I get an error when trying to install the SQL Native Client. It says it cannot find the installation package and to use a valid copy of 'sqlncli.msi'. I've downloaded the Express setup twice and get the same error from both of them.
I'm attempting this in a VMWare session setup for Windows 2K, Advanced Server. I am trying to test my installation and setup procedures. This is not a production setup, just install testing and documentation. I have allocated only 272MB to the VMWare session, which is why the system doesn't meet the recommended settings.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Below is the Summary.txt output file.

Hi, I am planning to install Sql server Express version on my machine. I already have Vs.NET 2005 Professional and SQL server 2000 installed and was wondering that if the installation of sql server expresss edition will cause any problems? If not then I can proceed with the installation!

Hi I have SQL Server 2005 and VS 2005 sp1 installed in my machine, however, i need SQL Server 2005 Management Studio and some of the key features in it.
What is the correct proccess to 'upgrade' my system without alter the programs referred?
Does anyone know of a way to let end-users install SP2 from Microsoft Update without giving them "God" rights? Please tell me I've just overlooked something and that there's a simple way to do this.
To make a long story short, I have big clients & small clients. The big ones use enterprise and have DBA's who know what they're doing. These guys can do whatever they want & they know enough to not mess things up. They've been running SP2 for months now.
The small ones use express. They have wannabe hardware techs who show up at the office periodically and tinker. I've dealt with too many techs who think that knowing how to swap a motherboard makes them fully qualified to "tweak" SQL Server. One even dropped & redefined an identity because he wanted to allow duplicates. (In case you're wondering, he thought that grouping related records by duplicating the ID would be more efficient than our existing "over-complicated" grouping because the server would automatically sort by the ID.) Anyway, to protect the little guys, I had to restrict their rights. All they can do as administrator is backup the data.
One more thing, due to industry regulations some of the of the data is encrypted before being stored. I can't let them accidently edit records through SQL manager either.
Hye all, running WHS 2008, I try to install SQL Server 2005 with reporting services, but on install, in "components to install" wizard, the reporting services box is hided. I can't check this box :/ Do you know whats wrong ? if anyone knows the problem, thanks in advance.
The subject pretty much sums the problem up. I am trying to get a database installed on Server 2008 RC0. The public information says SQL 2005 SP2 should work, but I cannot get the base SQL 2005 installed in order to apply the service pack. When I run the installation, I immediately get an error when trying to install the pre-requisites. Specifically, the .NET 2.0 Framework errors with code 87, "invalid parameter".
I have found a couple references to this error code, but nothing to do with Server 2008 and RC0. I have tried using a directory with no spaces, and tried the EXE vs ISO installation, but they everything fails. I don't know if there is a way to bypass the .NET 2.0 Framework install - since it's already on the machine anyway.
Hi everyone I have some problems with SQL server. I just installed the SQL Server 2005 express edition on my computer. And after installation, i cannot connect to it. Both authentifications doesn't work when I tried to log in The following is the error I get :"Cannot connect to localhost. An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL server 2005, this failure may be caused byt he fact that under the default settings SQL server does not allow remote connections."Can somebody please help me ?
