I AM GOING TO RIP MY HAIR OUT WITH THIS PROBLEM. I have reinstalled both sql server express 2005 and VWD about 5 times with the same problem. please, please, please someone throw me a bone here and help me resolve this problem. When I create a new EMPTY website and I rightclick on my website in the solution explorer and choose add item, I chooe SQL Database, I give it a name 'database.mdf' and click add. I get the following message: you are attempting to add a database to an asp.net application. for a database to be gfenerally consumable in your site, it should be placed inside the 'app_data' folder. would you like to place the database inside the 'app_data' folder? I click YES (I know this message is normal) then I get the following message: Connection to SQL server files (*.mdf) require SQL express 2005 to function properly. please verify the installation of the component or download from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=49251 I can add anything else but this damn mdf file. thanks for all your help in advance.
I've serached this forum and Google'd for a resolution to this issue, to no avail. Here's the scenario: I'm running VS 2005 on Windows Media Center laptop and need to create ASP.net membership for my web application built using VB. I have SQL Server Developer installed with instance name MSSQLSERVER. Previously, I uninstalled SQL Express and installed Developer edition and can now open and utilize Management Studio.
Now, when I try to create a new SQL Server database in my solution's App_Data directory, I receive the above error. I already changed instance name in VS2005 per Tools-Options-Database Tools-Data Connections to MSSQLSERVER.
Could someone provide me with a list of procedures to ensure proper setup of VS2005 with SQL Server Developer Edition?
Hi all, I have read/studied (i) Working with Databases in Visual Web Developer 2005 Express in http://quickstarts.asp.net/QuickStartv20/aspnet/doc/data/vwd.aspx, (ii) Xcopy Deployment (SQL Server Express) in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms165716.aspx, (iii) User Instances for Non-Administrators in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143684.aspx, and (iv) Embedding SQL Server Server Express in Applications in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms165660.aspx. I do not understand the concepts and procedures to do Xcopy and User Instances for non-administrators completely-I do not know how to connect to databases and create database diagrams or schemas using the Database Explorer. I have a stand-alone Windows XP Pro PC. I have created a ChemDatabase with 3 dbo tables in the SQL Server Management Studio of my SQL Server Express and a website of my VWD Express application with an App_Data folder. I am not able to proceed to use Xcopy and user instance to bring the 3 dbo tables of ChemDatabase to my App_Data folder. Please help and give me some detailed procedures/instructions to bring the 3 dbo tables of ChemDatabase (or ChemDatabase itself) from the SQL Server Management Studio Express to the App_Data folder of the website of my VWD Express project? Thanks in advance, Scott Chang
I've created a SQL Server Express Database that is used by an ASP.NET 2.0 application (developed using VWD Express).
I would like to be able to:
Make changes to stored procedures, views and table structures while developing/testing ASP.NET application - which, ideally, needs a SQL Server Manager Studio Express connection and Upload my application and data to a database on a network - which, ideally, needs a direct Database.mdf connection.
I know that I need to change my connection string - and am able to achieve that with ease - but I'm not sure what the best way of switching between the two ways of attaching on the database side. I keep getting logon type problems etc.
So i am getting an error of "An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 205, this faliure may be caused by the fact that under the defualt setting SQL Server does not allow remote connections.(ProviderQL Net work Interfaces, error: 26- Eror Locating Server?Instance Specified)
So i have Windows Xp SP2,750 mb Ram, 1.6 Ghz, Uninstalled Everything (visual basic express,SQL express) then reinstalled everthing all over again. Same problem . Any Ideas???
I dont have the SQL EXPRESS installed instead I have SQL Standard Edition. I have two SQL Server instances installed. 1- UserLT (this is sql 2000)2- UserLTSQL2005 (this is SQL 2005 named instance) But when i try to add a database to my VS website project I get the following error: Connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly. please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkId=4925 I went in Tools>Opetions>DataBase tools>Data Connection>Sql Server Instance Name (blank for default) and changed the "SQLEXPRESS" to "USERLTSQL2005". But I still get the same error message. Any ideas how i can resolve this issue?
i've installed SQL server 2005 express and Visual web developper 2005 express.
when i whant to create a database in VWD the following error occures:
connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly. please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkId=49251
i searched the internet but can't find the solution, i already reinstalled my complete workstation but the problem stays.
Really confused ... I created 2 tables in a VB Express program (which went well). Problem is that I can't see/find those tables with MSME. I don't really understand how to connect the MSME to where the tables are. I created the tables under My DocumentsData and they are DBapp.mdf + DBapp_log.LDF and the tables are Items and Preferences. The VB application can "see" the tables OK.
Do I need to move the tables to C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSQL.1MSQLDATA (like the Adventureworks installation which I haven't done) or what?
Hi,When I attempt to add the membership functionality to a database created within VWD Express, by using the aspnet_regsql.exe application (connecting to ./SQLEXPRESS using Windows authentication), the database I've created within VWD Express doesn't appear within the list of accessible databases. I have the same problem when attempting to access the same database within Management Studio Express.Does this mean that databases created from within VWD Express don't use the same storage mechanism or paradigm as those already available within Management Studio Express? Or perhaps I need to somehow register the database using Management Studio Express? As a side note, I'm not sure if the "File/Open File" menu option within Management Studio Express holds the answer to my problems, but rather bizarrely, it crashes Management Studio Express when I select it.Apologies for the rambling - in essence my question is "How can I make databases created within VWD Express appear within aspnet_regsql.exe and/or Management Studio Express?"Many thanks,Jon
When I start Management Studio I get the following message and a suggestion to change a setting: (I can choose to continue and the system databases appear, but the DB I created does not.) "Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application. Cannot create a stable subkey under a volitile parent key."
************** JIT Debugging ************** To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this application or computer (machine.config) must have the jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section. The application must also be compiled with debugging enabled. For example: <configuration> <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" /> </configuration> When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer rather than be handled by this dialog box. Any assistance is appreciated.
I have a web app and database created in sql server 2005 express. In addition to using the membership and role providers I have added custom tables and stored procedures to my db. When I try to export this with Sql Server Management Studio (not the express version) to my db on my shared host(sql server 2005) the custom tables and stored procedures are not transferred. How can this be accomplished? Thanks in advance.
I have SQL Server Express and VB 2005 Express installed in a Microsoft Windows XP Pro PC that is a terminal PC in our office Network. My Network Administrator has granted my terminal PC for Administrator Use. I tried to do the ADO.NET 2.0-VB 2005 programming in my terminal PC and I could not get a remote connection in the Window Form Application via Window Authorization. I do not know how to make this kind of remote connection in my Network. Please help and advise.
Has anyone used SQL Server 2005 on a production website? I know that it tops out at 1GB of ram, but it is free. Any idea how much load it will take before you need to move up to the full version?
In trying to upgrade my sql express install from express to developer edition, I ended up having to delete all things express from my computer and do a clean install of developer edition (as i installed developer edition initially over sql express but this didnt seem to work; express edition still appeared in add remove programs etc). Anyway so i blew away the install and have a clean install of developer edition. Now when I create a new website in Visual Studio 2005 and try to add a database to the project, it gives me an error stating that i need to have sql server express 2005 installed to function properly... Do i need to have express AND developer edition of sql installed to do this? I would think developer edition of sql would enable me this functionality...http://img277.imageshack.us/img277/4228/sqlerrorie2.jpgThanks!It is also worth noting that I get the dreaded remote connection error when trying to connect to a db that I used to be able to connect to when I was using sql express (the aspnetdb database that is created when you user their membership stuff)"An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. Does anyone know if it is legal to use SQL Server 2005 Express in a commercial website? There is no need for SQL Server 2005 so the Express would do the job great.Thx, Viktor
I have an ASP.NET application that runs under the development server. Before deploying to my host I wanted to test it under IIS. I set up a virtual directory under IIS, but when I try to open the home page I get an error Unable to open the physical file "E:CDiskLocalWebSitesDIWSchedulingApp_DataDIWDB.MDF". Operating system error 5: "5(Access is denied.)".and a code dump showing that the code is breaking at the open connection. A little research on the error indicates that IIS does not have permission to execute the database operation. I can not find any information on how to give IIS this permission in SQL Server 2005 Express. Any guidance would be appreciated.
SQL Server Express 2005 will not install. I download the necessary package direct from the asp.net website and towards the end of the installation the following error occurs:
"An installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Server Native Client cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'sqlncli.msi'."
I get the exact same message for the following:
Microsoft SQL Server VSS Writer - same message as above only requesting a valid copy of 'SqlWriter.msi' MSXML6.0 Parser - same message as above only requesting a valid copy of 'msxml6.msi'
Can anyone help? I am desperate to use SQL with Visual Web Developer 2005 and 2008, but I am unable to do so. Please help if you can.

I'm creating an app and have SQL Server 2005 Express installed. Most of the hosts now offering SQL Server 2005 are a bit pricey compared to those only offering 2000. Will I have any difficulty uploading my site and running the db on SQL 2000? Thanks in advance.
I am just wondering what's the difference of sql server 2005 standard and enterprise editions. can I use SQL server 2005 to host a database for a website?

Using VWD 05 Express & SQL Server 05 Express, how do I transfer my database to my host that is using SQL Server 2005. On the SQL Server express web site http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/powerful/ one of the features listed for SQL Server 05 Express is: Transfer any database created in SQL Express to other editions of SQL Server 2005. Thanks
Are there any restrictions, limitations or anything to prevent the use of SQL Express database being used with my ASP.NET 2.0 application on a public web host? If so, what are they? Thanks.
Hi, I've been a SQL Server dba for about 10 years, so i know SQL quite well. I've recently started using VWD express, and as it says, its quick and easy to create a website, which I've done. It all works great on my local machine. I've just signed up with an isp and duly ftp'd the project files plus the mdf and ldf that lives in App_Data into their content area, and rather naively I expected it all to work. The pages come up fine until some database access is called for, then i get the seemingly infamous error:
I've researched this for 2 solid days now, examined forums and posts, followed advice and enabled protocols and so on. Support at the isp in question does not really have a clue about databases and connections strings. Then I started looking closely at the words used by the isp's, none of the isp's explicitly say they support sql 2005 express. They do say SQL 2005, but not express. They do say VWD Express, but not SQL 2005 Express. So does anyone know what is/is not possible with regard to deployment of SQL 2005 express. Does anyone have experience of running SQL express on a production server, or a shared hosters machine? Its been out now for nearly a year I think, so hopefully someone has the answer.
in visual studio web developer express edition 2008 i added a new item this was a sql server database which i called test2. I added a table called comments, and the fields name, email, comments, IPAddress, and Date and in my comments.aspx page i added a name textbox, a texbox for email, a textbox for comments and the submit button i double clicked on the submit button and added the following code Protected Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim mydS As New SqlDataSource mydS.ConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("testConnectionString1").ToString mydS.InsertCommandType = SqlDataSourceCommandType.Text mydS.InsertCommand = "INSERT INTO comments(Name,Email,Comments,IPAddress,Date) VALUES (@Name,@Email,@Comments,@IPAddress,@Date)" mydS.InsertParameters.Add("Name", TextBox1.Text) mydS.InsertParameters.Add("Email", TextBox2.Text) mydS.InsertParameters.Add("Comments", TextBox3.Text) mydS.InsertParameters.Add("Date", Date. Now) mydS.InsertParameters.Add("IPAddress", Request.Params("REMOTE_ADDR")) Dim rowsaffected As Int16 = 0 Try rowsaffected = mydS.Insert Catch ex As Exception Server.Transfer("errors.aspx") Finally mydS = Nothing End Try If rowsaffected <> 1 Then Server.Transfer("errors.aspx") Else Server.Transfer("confirm.aspx") End If End Sub Protected Sub TextBox1_TextChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles TextBox1.TextChanged End Sub but when i run it it gives me a problem with this line mydS.ConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("testConnectionString2).ToString and says something abt unidentified object and I want to know how do i set the connection string or alternatively where?????? and my table does not update with the corresponding values i enter on the webpage. i also changed the authentication mode to forms instead of windows as i was advised but i'm still having a problem
I have VC++ express and MSSQL SMS express and have an application working nicely locally. The Data explorer and data connections part works really easily.
Now, I want to make the application available to my home network.
I mapped the drive where the database is and called it Z: so I could put my "release" on my other network PC and assumed it would find Z: if I mapped the shared network drive on that machine and called it Z:
But: I can't even add the mapped connection on the local machine, I get:
The file "Z:databasescalorie.mdf" is on a network path not supported for database files. An attempt to attach.....etc"
It works fine on the original F drive.......
Am I approaching this the wrong way. How should I distribute to network PCs?
Would appreciate any help. Got this error message for the line highlighted below. An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. I am having trouble connecting to SQL Server Express Server 2005 from a remote machine. I have remote connections enabled. I can connect with Management Studio. The error is when I connect with VB Express 2005.
The error is 26 telling me remote connections is not enabled.
Hello everybody, I intend to used SQL Express database in my website so that I don't have to go through all the database deployment effort when deplying my website. In this regard, can anyone please tell me what features would it require in my hosting package so that my application works fine (in database context). Would I have to purchase any additional features (like the way we purchase SQL Server database(s) in hosting package) for SQL EXpress in order to deploy my application?? I look forward to you kind replies. Thank you. Zulfiqar Dhuka
I created a program that uses SQL Express on my local machine. I wanted to allow other users to use the same program, so I put another copy of SQL Express on a server. I installed the database on this new server. I can use the database with no problem, but other domaint users get an SQLClient error 4060 when trying to use the database.
What permissions do I need to set to allow domaint users to use the database?
