I Forgot My SA Password For My Instance Of SQL 2000

Sep 5, 2006

Hi all,

I have SQL 2000 and I forgot my SA password and cannot login as administrator using windows authentication.

Is there any way to reset SA password?

"Mixed Mode" authentication is enabled.

If I change authentication mode in register to Windows only and then after restarting SQL change it back to Mixed, will it reset SA password to "null"?

Thanks in advance.

How To Create Instance Name And Password

Dec 26, 2007

In a previous answer about beginning to use SQL Server 2005 Studio you say "Mention your Instance name /user name and password to connect to the server. "

Please advise where I should go to creat the instance name and password. It appears my Studio is running but I have not been asked for an "Instance Name" or password. What, exactly, does instance name mean and how can I tell if I have everything installed correctly?
Thank you.

Named Instance Problems (Default Of 7.0/2000 Instance)

Oct 10, 2001

I am trying to set up a Named Instance of SQL 2000 on the same machine that has a default instance of SQL 7.0. The setup always completes and I am able to register the Named Instance of the SQL Server with which it was installed on. However, when I try to connect the users to the database, with both windows and SQL authentication, I receive a SQL server not found error. I have tried an alias setup as well as physically specifying the port number in settup up an ODBC connection.
Has anyone ran into similar problems?
Also, has anyone been able to successfully complete the process as mentioned above?

Package Is Missing The Password When I Deploy It To SQL Server SSIS Instance

Apr 16, 2008

Hi there,

Something a little wride mysterious is happening with my package when I deploy it to run at the SSIS server instance. Everytime that I try to deploy it (from my local development environment) to SSIS server, my package is not keeping its database user and password.

As the database user and password are the same one we dont need to use the XML setting to keep these data there.

So, does anyone know what could be happening with my package and/or my deployment?

Thank you,
Luis Antonio - Brazil

Connection String For Default Instance Of SQL Server 2005, On A Box Also Running A Named Instance Of SQL Server 2000

Nov 15, 2007

The box I am trying to connect to is running two instances of SQL Server.
There is a SQL Server 2005 instance which is the default. There is a SQL Server 2000 instance which is named 'SQLSERVER'.
 I can connect to the SQL Server 2000 instance no problem:<add key="ConnectionString" value="server=MYPCSQLSERVER;database=mydatabase;user id=****;password=****" />
However,  I am having trouble connecting to the Default SQL Server 2005 instance. I have tried:
<add key="ConnectionString" value="server=MYPC;database=mydatabase;user id=****;password=****" />
but it doesn't work. I have tried explicitly setting SQL Server 2005 to use port 1434 (as SQL Server 2000 is running on port 1433), and then used:
<add key="ConnectionString" value="server=MYPC,1434;database=mydatabase;user id=****;password=****" />
but this doesn't work either.

Am I mssing something here? Any help much appreciated
Thanks...

Forgot How To Do This In SQL

Sep 13, 2007

I am having a serious brain f@rt right now. I am querying a table full of customers, dates and payment amounts
I am looking to get each customer, the most recent payment amount and most recent payment date.

SELECT Customer, MAX(TranDate) As TranDate, TranAmount GROUP BY Customer, TranAmount
 ...gets me the following:
customer1      9/14/2007   100.00
customer1      9/14/2007    50.00
customer2     9/1/2007       75.00
The problem being that each customer has multiple payment amounts so when I GROUP BY the TranAMount column I am getting multiple rows for the same customer. I am looking for a single row or customer, date and amount for each customer. What am I forgetting?

Reconnecting Access 2000 Front End To New Instance Of SQLServer 2000

Jul 27, 2004

I recently had to reinstall a new instance of SQLServer 2000, but was unable to use the previous server name. As a result, my Access2000 front end is not happy with it's linked tables. I can't seem to find anyplace within Access to universally change the address of the SQLServer used as the back-end for all linked tables.

When I do try to access the linked tables through Access, I get an error, and the option to change the server location. When I try to type-in the new SQLServer location, there is an attempt to reconnect to SQLServer, but a whole lot of errors are generated, and none of the data is transferred into the Access table.

I really don't want to have to re-do my Access front end, so it seems it would be easiest to somehow reinstall SQLServer to have the same server location it used to. Is there a good way to completely erase all traces of SQLServer so that I can have better luck reinstalling it to the same location it used to be in? Just using the uninstall program from SQLServer doesn't seem to be cutting it.

Thanks!

Forgot The SQL Authentication Details

Nov 14, 2006

Hi guys,

this is my first post and I am new to SQL server 2005 (well, SQL in general).

I have installed SQL server 2005 but cannot remember if I set authentication for it. I have just tried to access a database on this server through ASP (classic, not .NET) but get the error message saying that login failed for <servername>IUSR_<servername>.

There must be a simple way around this.

Also, is there a way for me to create trusted connections for my server now that it has been installed?

If anyone can give me a few ideas about authentication, etc, I would really appreciate it.

Change Password On Sql 2000?

Apr 4, 2008

I am trying to change password, using the code below.. The code below is in a stored proc and I am passing these parameters from a web application.....
 sp_password [ [ @old = ] 'old_password' , ]     { [ @new =] 'new_password' }     [ , [ @loginame = ] 'login' ]

sp_password 'cust1','cust2','cust1'
Server: Msg 15210, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_password, Line 20Only members of the sysadmin role can use the loginame option. The password was not changed.
I made my user part of the db_securityadmin role, but that does not help...
How can I give the above mentioned permissions, so that when user cust1 logs on then he can chnage his own password from the web application as long he has given his old password correctly?

Install Sql 2005 Instance With Reporting Service 2005 On Sql 2000 With RS 2000 Server

Aug 18, 2006

Hi

We would like to install Sql 2005 Enterprise Edition (including database engine, reporting service, integration service and analysis service) as a sepearte instance on a server which already has Sql 2000 with reporting services and analysis services. We do not want to disturb the existing sql 2000 setup.

If we do that then what will happen to my earlier sql 2000 reporting service? Will it be upgraded to sql 2005 reporting service? I heard that reporting services are instance unaware application. Where will be the default reporting service database available?

Please help us.

Lost Sa Password... 2005-&>2000 Conversion?

Mar 15, 2007

Hello, I'm running an MS SQL 2005 database which supports our entire website and it's fairly huge. I seem to have lost the sa password for the database.

I COULD get it back if there was a way to convert the SQL 2005 DB to an SQL 2000 DB, seeing as how I found a password cracker for that version. Is there anyway to convert a 2005 DB back to a 2000 DB?

Does anyone have any other ideas they might want to lay on me?

I'm kind of sick about this... I'm usually a really good note-taker; In fact, I do have the sa password recorded in an IT database that I keep. Unfortunately the password just doesn't work. I've tried the caps lock and other variations, but the password just eludes me.

Thanks for your help,
Chris

Enforcing Password Complexity In Sql Server 2000

May 23, 2006

Hi all,

Are there any built-ins, utilities, ... within sql server 2000 that can be used to enforce password complexity in the database. i.e at least 8 characteres, upper and lowercase mix, includes at least on number and one punctuation (underscore,...).

I understand that this requirement can be achieved using windows authentication. Unfortunately we do not have that luxury (at the moment).

Upgrade A SQL 7.0 Instance To 2000

Jun 13, 2001

I started with a SQL 7.0 installation and installed an instance of SQL 2000. The default instance is SQL 7.0 as expected and both run fine. However, now I'd like to upgrade the SQL 7.0 instance to SQL 2000, but the setup procedure on the install CD only allows you to upgrade/modify the SQL 2000 instance. It seems as though once you've chosen to install SQL 2000 as an instance, you do not have the opportunity again to upgrade the SQL 7.0 instance in place. I tried to remove the SQL 2000 instance and reinstall 2000, but the procedure does not give you the opportunity to upgrade the SQL 7.0 instance -- only to modify the programs installed. Any suggestions?

(I could use the Copy Database Wizard to move all databases along with associated stored procedures, logins, etc., but then I'd have to mess with DTS packages, etc.)

Registering Instance Of SQL 2000

Jan 29, 2001

I cannot register, from my W98 workstation, an instance of SQL 2000. I just installed SQL2000 (evaluation edition) on my server. Previous to my install I had MSDE installed on the server and successfully registered it from my W98 workstation. When I installed the SQL2000 it recognized there was already a version of SQL Server (MSDE) on the server and said that was the default. Hense, I installed the SQL 2000 as an instance using the format servernameinstance. I can see both of them on the server EM with no problem--I just can't register the SQL 2000 instance from my workstation. When asked for the server name I use the format servernameinstance as it appears in the EM on the server. However, I get the error that the server does not exist or access is denied.? What could I be overlooking? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Eugene Jenkins

I am about to put this into production, so it runs automatically each evening. but just realized that it won't work unless it signs onto the source file's Windows 2000 server. It works for me when I'm testing it because I am always logged on the the Windows 2000 server.

I have been trying to figure out which DTS task I need to use to establish a connection by embedding my UserName and Password. Any tips woud be apprecitaed.
