I Have A Database On A Network Drive That I Use For Archiving Purposes, But When The Server Is Rebooted The Database Becomes Suspect.
Mar 31, 2007
I created the db with the attached script and I am able to access it
until I reboot the server. I've tried enabling flag 1807 via the SQL
server service and the startup parameters of the instance. In all
cases the database always come up suspect after a reboot. There was
one instance where I was able to recover, but I am not sure how that
happened.
Does anyone have an idea of how I can reboot the server without the
database becomming suspect?

I have 2 different servers that run nightly backup jobs to a network drive using the UNC format. I am noticing the larger databases encountering the following errors on a regular basis
Error: 18210, Severity: 16, State: 1.
'\fnfssql3SQLBackupsMNSQL05<database>.BAK'. Operating system error 64(The specified network name is no longer available.).
BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP DATABASE <database>. Check the backup application log for detailed messages.
There are 5 databases on this server all backed up by the same job and 3 of them wortk fine and 2 of them fail so it is not a permissions problem. Have there been any problems with backing up to a network drive in 2005?

Hi
I want to suspect database
stop server first
I try to rename C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDatamsdbdata.mdf to msdbdata.sav
and then start the server
use command to check:
SELECT status & 256 FROM master.dbo.sysdatabases WHERE name = database_name
if the result is 256,it means the msdb is suspect, but the result is 0,it same as the normal status
do you know how to set database suspect with this way, or do you know other way to suspect databse.
absolutely,I could re-back my server noraml with your way
Thanks

Hello,
I need help with the setup of my sql server express 2005 and more specifically, with the location of the database files. Normally, database files are located on the c: drive. In my situation, being in a high school environnement, I need to have the database files on the network drive ... lets call it g:drive. The reason why it cannot be on c:drive is because this drive is protected using DeepFreeze. Now, I was able to change the location of the new drive as I went into the properties window of the sql server instance but when I try to create this new database, sql gives me grief ;-|
I am from the group of people that thinks that to anything, there is a solution and am hoping that to this problem, there is hope of a solution.
Can anyone help?
Thank you

In 6.5 , I was NOT able to use mapped network drive for new database
device if the MSSQLSERVER service is running under local system account,
but if I changed it to using a domain a/c which has the authority to
create files on mapped drive, I was able to do it.
But if I tried it in 7.0, it never work and got msg:
Server: Msg 5105, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Device activation error. The physical file name 'e:est2.mdf' may be
incorrect.
Server: Msg 1802, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
CREATE DATABASE failed. Some file names listed could not be created. Check
previous errors.
Is it something that's normal for 6.5 and 7.0 ????
i.e. we can only create databases on LOCAL drives ?
I am just thinking of in case we run of space locally, we can temporarily
make use of remote mapped network drive. (say at time of upgrading)
Any one has this experience ?

I have a network drive that is mapped as Z: on my local machine. When creating a new database, that drive does not show up in the list of available paths. If I try to hardcode the drive/path info, I get an error message: "The system cannot find the path specified."

Hello,
I have been placed in the position of administering our SQL server 6.5 (Microsoft). Being new to SQL and having some knowledge of databases (used to use Foxpro 2.6 for...DOS!) I am faced with an ever increasing table of incoming call information from our Ascend MAX RAS equipment. This table increases by 900,000 records a month. The previous administrator (no longer available) was using a Visual Foxpro 5 application to archive and remove the data older than 60 days. Unfortunately he left and took with him Visual Fox and all of his project files.
My question is this: Is there an easy way to archive then remove the data older than 60 days from the table? I would like to archive it to a tape drive. We need to maintain this archive for the purposes of searching back through customer calls for IP addresses on certain dates and times. We are an ISP, and occasionally need to give this information to law enforcement agencies. So we cannot just delete it.
Sorry this is so long...
Thanks,

I recently created a program that connects to a Microsoft SQL database that was stored on my computer and it worked fine. As soon as I tried to connect to the same database via a network drive I got an error stating that "The file Y:Filename.mdf is on a network path that is not supported for database files.". I can't seem to get it to work, if anybody has any ideas what I'm doing wrong I would appreciate your help.

Hi
I have VC++ express and MSSQL SMS express and have an application working nicely locally. The Data explorer and data connections part works really easily.
Now, I want to make the application available to my home network.
I mapped the drive where the database is and called it Z: so I could put my "release" on my other network PC and assumed it would find Z: if I mapped the shared network drive on that machine and called it Z:
But: I can't even add the mapped connection on the local machine, I get:
The file "Z:databasescalorie.mdf" is on a network path not supported for database files. An attempt to attach.....etc"
It works fine on the original F drive.......
Am I approaching this the wrong way. How should I distribute to network PCs?
thanks hopefully

--Example Schema posted at end of message:---For reporting purposes, I need to build a single comma delimited string ofvalues from the "many" tableof a database. The easiest way to see what I want is to look at the sample after mysignature.By the way, this is actually a busines problem, not homework! I justcreated a simpleexample using class and persons because everyone is familiar with thatrelationship.I have two tables on the 'one' side of the relationship: PERSON and CLASSThe ENROLLMENT table resolves the many to many relationship between PERSONand CLASS.(I know that a real system would be date effective, etc, but this is just asimple example.that will show my problem). ENROLLMENT has one row for each Class in which aPerson is enrolled.Look at the sample report: I have to "flatten" the join result and listthe class titles in acomma delimited string. I am stuck with this reporting requirement, and Iam NOT going to denormalizethe tables. One way to accomplish the result is to use a cursor to step through the rowsand build a "Classes"string with concatenation. I don't much like this option. I am not writingthe front end code, but I want to make it easy for the developer. Ideally, I would like to givehim a flattened viewso he can just do a simple join and run his report.I believe that what I want cannot be accomplished with ANSI SQL. However, does MS SQL have someextensions that could help me do the job? Failing that, how could I write astored procedure that wouldreturn the personID and the "Classes" string in a format that would bejoinable to the other tables? Thanks,Bill MacLeanP.S. How do I go about moving a database from 1 drive to another? The source drive (C is local to the server, but the target drive (E is on a Storage Area Network (SAN), although it is still a local drive for the server. I want to move the database from C: to E:. Can someone provide me with instructions?
Thanks,

One of the database in our SQL Server 2000 environment is in the suspect status. We need to bring it back to the normal status.
The problem occurred because the disk on which the data file and log file for this database were placed ran out of space.
Pls note other databases in the same server are working fine.
Later on more space was made available on this disk. We tried the following options but with no success.
1. Reset the status of database and restarted the SQL Server. After restarting the SQL Server, the database once again was showing the suspect status.
2. Used the same data and log file in another SQL Server and attached with the database in this another SQL Server.
3. Tried dbcc chkdb with repair_allow_data_loss.
Since the database is in suspect status, we are neither able to export the data nor able to back up the database.
Please suggest some options to recover the database from the suspect status. Also it would be great if we can get the commands, scripts to find if the data/log file is corrupt and a way to correct it (even with data loss is fine).

As I know the database should be restored from backup and logs reapplied. That’s the first and generally recommended approach any time a DB is suspect, whether it’s from log or data file corruption. But if I have no backups then we follow below steps ( after Googling I found these steps on most of the websites ):
1.EXEC sp_resetstatus ‘yourDBname’;
2.ALTER DATABASE yourDBname SET EMERGENCY
3.DBCC checkdb(’yourDBname’)
4.ALTER DATABASE yourDBname SET SINGLE_USER WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE
5.DBCC CheckDB (’yourDBname’, REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS)
6.ALTER DATABASE yourDBname SET MULTI_USER
Now my question is,
1. If after executing DBCC CHECKDB at 3rd step, it shows inconsistency. Then I will execute SET SINGLE USER WITH ROLLBACK & if after executing DBCC CHECKDB at 3rd step, no errors found. Then what will be the steps?
2. When we execute DBCC CHECKDB (' DBNAME ', REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS) how can we recover lost data during process. As far as I know some data will loss and if it will happen then business will get suffered.
3. Why run DBCC CHECKDB() WITH REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS if there are no consistency errors in the database?

Hello,
I have a database that resides in SQL Server 7.0 that I can attach in Microsoft's SQL Server Management Studio Express and I can see all the tables from the database in that program.
My problem is that when ever I re open SQL Server Enterprise manager, the database that I attached to SSME, shows up as Database(Suspect). Now I am unable to view my tables in that database. Can anyone tell me what causes this, and how I can resolve that issue?
I need to have my sql server database, and sql server express edition database present in SSME because I am doing an import of data from SQL Server 7.0 to SQL server express.
Also, if there is another easier way to import data from SQL Server 7.0 to SQL Express edition, I would like to know...
Thanks in advance.

Hi all,
i am a student doing my final year project and i have the duty to develop a automated part-archiving for our MsSql Server 2000 Database, but its not so simple  .
the environment:
- MsSql Server 2000
- Suns App-Server Glasfish
- Java (J2EE)
- Hibernate
the requirements:
1.)
Some tables should be synchronized and redundant (the same data in both databases)
2.)
If the maindatabase is changing the schema the archivedatabse must do the same changes.
3.)
The datas in some tables (the ones that aren't synchronized) which are older then 2 Years should be moving (copy, paste) to the archivedatabase every 24 hours.
4.)
If there are is a access for a data which are not in the maindatabase, it is necassary to get it from the archivedatabase.
I don't find a way to realise this ...
can some one give me a hint?
... Sorry for my bad english, i hope i explained my problem good enough.
Thanks for ur answers

Hi
I am having an Access database on a shared network drive which has read/write access rights on the that shared network drive.
When I try to Access data through the linked server it gives me gives me a message box saying you do not have permissions to view the data.
Also if i try to use xp_cmdshell to copy over the mdb file to my local drive it say 'Access denied'
But when I copy (through command prompt) the same file to another network drive or my local drive where I have full control the linked server can connect sucessfully.
The problem is the i cannot have 'full control' permissions on shared drive where my database resides.
Has anybody encountered this problem....
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I need to archive files in a database by checking an archive date for the file contained in a field in a table of a database, if the archive date is greater than todays date then archive the file by moving it to an archive folder. I am thinking the best way might be to use a manged stored procedure, but I also need to run this procedure once every 24 hours at about midnight so how would I do thi? Another way might be by using DTS or something. Has someone else done this and how did they go about it?

Hello!
I have a Java application that gains access to a SQL database using:
connection="jdbc:jtds:sqlserver://localhost:1433/databasename;user="+user+";password="+password;
//Load and register SQL Server driver
Class.forName("net.sourceforge.jtds.jdbc.Driver");
//Establish the connection
conn=DriverManager.getConnection(temp);
When I distribute this application throughout the local network, what would the jdbc url be for the application to find the SQL server?
Should I replace "localhost:1433" with something else?
The instance of SQL server is called SQLExpress.
I have my computer name, computer domain, ip address etc.
Is the port 1433 still the same?
How could the SQL database be located throughout the network?
Any advice appreciated.

I am using SQL server 6.5 sp3 and NT 4.0 sp4.
My SMS database has been marked suspect.
I do not have a backup.
I have read several articles about trying to us sp_resetstatus.
I can not find this sp on my server.
When I try the following:
UPDATE master..sysdatabases status=256 WHERE name = ('sms')
I get the following back:
Ad-hoc updates to system catalog not enabled. System Adminstrator must recongifure system to allow this.
I have searched Microsoft KB and everywhere I can think of. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it.
I even tried reapplying sp3 and rebooting...this did not help either.
Can someone please tell me how to change the status back to normal.....I think this is a it will take..

This database was created different then others using new database and new devices routine rather than creating the devices first. Any Ideas?

However, two of my databases now is "Suspect" and can't be used. Both the MDF & LDF exist, and there are no indications of actual data loss. What can I do with a "suspect" database ? SQL 2K
What should I do to recover these two databases?

I lost the sql errpor log file which had the error details as to why db when into suspect....so my questions are..
1. Probable reasons why db when into suspect mode.
2. Any other way to find out about the error details.
3. When I ran dbcc checkdb with repair_rebuild option
for some tables it gave error
"Parent node for page (1:13075) was not encountered"
How can i resolve the consistency errors.
Is DBCC CHECKTABLE sufficient.???
